There is a recipes section on this site. Not sure if you have had a chance to look at it or not. Also there is a site called "the world according to eggface", it has a lot of bariatric recipes. I would definately suggest making a good homemade chicken stock for your liquid phase. Use carrots, celery, onions, chicken, Water, salt, pepper, garlic if you like it. For most this becomes a lifesaver during both preop and post op liquid phases. Trust me, you will be sick of Protein shakes and needing something warm and comforting to sip on. It helps with hunger too during preop. I made homemade chicken cacciatore using boneless chicken breasts, mushrooms, onion, green pepper, garlic and your favorite marinara sauce. I then vacuume sealed it in 2/3 oz. portions and froze them. When I wanted to eat, I simply dropped one in boiling water to heat through. I bought a vacuum sealed after another bariatric pal suggested it. It is one of the best tools in my kitchen given my need for tiny little portions, especially the first 6 months. I would bring home leftovers from the restaurant and get 2/3 more meals or more out of 1. I made a lot of different chicken, ground beef, ground chicken/turkey dishes. In the beginning casseroles are not recommended. Stick with Proteins with Fat free gravies or sauces to help them slide down easily. I would go to the eggface site to get some good purée ideas. I personally did not do well in that phase and lived on yogurt, Protein Shakes and cottage cheese. Good luck to you!

I just started softs this week. So far I've had yogurt, egg, refried beans and tofu.

OH MY GOSH - I am so with ya - I too, at about that time was STARVING - Stomach growling, tumbling...and I'm seriously thinking there is NO WAY I can live like this - THEN - I found GNC 100% whey Protein - unflavored - you can literally mix it into anything - tomato soup, milk, carnation instant breakfast (my favorite) yogurt, sugar free pudding, refried beans--- etc. It really did make a difference and got me thru to the next food stage --- I think at this point it's your body saying "what the heck have you done to me - where's the beef"..... ha! Now, I'm 20 days post op and on mushies/soft food and I have not had the hunger pangs that I did before - I still get hungry - but by then it's about time to grab something. Just remember they say that at this point there really isn't any restriction (only swelling/healing process) so you will tend to be a little hungry - ME however, while I'm not feeling anything like what I would call "restriction" I am consuming way less than before- I'm getting fuller quicker and on much less - so SOMETHING is working in there. Hang in there - there are better days to come.

Between my multi, calcium supplement (1 tablet three times/day), and my Greek yogurt, I'm getting at least 1000mg. But with all the milk, cottage cheese, broccoli, kale, and cheese I eat, it's probably closer to 1200-1500mg most days.

Hi, My name is Carla and I live in Toronto Canada. I am going to have my banding on Friday July 13th (good thing I'm not supersitious)! I am currently on the pre-op diet of skim or low-fat milk , yogurt and cottage cheese. I am also allowed coffee and tea, sugar free drinks such as Crystal Lite, sugar free Jello and that's about it. I have over 150lbs to loose, and although I have been successful dieting in the past, I have always gained the weight back, I am hoping that this procedure will be a tool which will allow me to reduce my appetite - which is large - and stay on a healthy diet not only till I loose my weight, but to learn to eat properly for life. I have decided to do this, and to get my weight under control once and for all because I have recently been diagnosed with type2 diabetes, I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea and sore knees and back!! I know I sound like a wreck but actually I am quite healthy, I exercise everyday and I do have a lot of energy, I just love to eat. I eat for emotional reasons mostly but I also enjoy food and I am a very good cook!! I enjoy baking and make up alot of recipes. In my personal life I am single and have a Double Yellow Headed Amazon Parrot, two budgies and two cats. I would have more animals but I live in an apartment and do not have the room. I hope when I retire - several years from now, or if I win a lottery, to move to a house where I can have more pets. I work right now supporting Police Computer Systems for several cities and for the Province of Ontario. I enjoy my work and especially like talking with the police officiers - although most are totally computer challenged!!! Anyway - that is my story - I'm a little nervous about the operation, and scared about making such a big change in my life - how will it affect my enjoyment of life - but I believe in the long run I will be happier - and definetly healthier. Carla

I am wondering what other people were eating at this point? I seem to only stomach beef broth and water sometimes a little yogurt. I just started getting my protein in by adding bananas to the mix so I can drink it.

What can I add protein powder to? Need ideas.
Peggy D replied to TvlGrl712's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The unflavored protein powder has been a life-saver for me. The flavored powders I used before surgery just sat like a rock after surgery. I've mixed the unflavored powder in broth, soup, yogurt, flavored water, virtually anything fairly thin. I add sugar-free Torani, DaVinci or Walden Farms syrups to make my own flavored shakes. -

Non fat plain greek yogurt (and a baby spoon of sf ff pudding mix) Cottage cheese Anything I make with ricotta cheese (just mix well so it doesn't clump) -
I would really like to add these to like yogurt ect has anyone ask their NUT about them, are they ok for us to have post op. I guess I worry about things clogging up or messing with the bowel area. I know my doc says miralax is ok but I think I have read some docs say no, so just wondering.

3 days post op and needs some advise!
Shauna80 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery Sept 18th...I have had NO problems eating or drinking. I was in the hospital for 2 nights, and was able to eat all my Jello, broth and popcicles. I got home yesterday, and was told to be on full liquids ( 3 shakes a day and 1 liquid, like pudding or yogurt) but I am finding myself hungry. I have been adding about 5 saltine crackers with my shake because the shakes are not filling...I am using unjury fro my shakes and I drink 8 oz in about 20 minutes, but I am forcing myself to drink them slow. My question is, what did you guys do during this stage to fight the hunger? I notice that I cant eat as much, but there has been nothing I cant eat so far. I know I have to be careful because of the sutures and allow the band to heal...but I am finding this very difficult because I have tasted stuff and have no problem keeping it down...and I want more! What was your first week like post op? What was your diet consisted of? Thanks -
I know exactly what you are talking about! I had been wondering why I could eat bread and other things when everyone said they couldn't. Well, after my last fill, I'm always trying to find something I CAN eat. Chicken just doesn't work at all anymore. Neither does beef unless it's shredded and I'm very loose. So sick of yogurt and cottage cheese. Haven't found a really good protein mixture, but still trying. Have just seen a few suggestions, but keep them coming! Getting frustrated!

I really like Oikos rasberry flavored yogurt. It is yummy. It almost reminds me of a fruit-flavored spread that you can buy for toast. I don't like the plain greek yogurt either. It works OK for a replacement in cooking or for sour cream though.
-
Fage Greek yogurt is my fav but all the Greek yogurt's taste like sour cream to me. I only eat it as a sour cream. I know a lot of people add fresh fruit and sugar substitutes to make it sweet like a normal yogurt but I still don't like the sour undertone.

I had surgery a week ago on the 28th. Are you in pain or at least passing gas? It took me three days to pass gas (was burping like crazy though) and five days post op to have a BM if you'd call it that. Yesterday was my first 'real' BM. Only after integrating yogurt and such did anything start to happen for me. If you're concerned or very uncomfortable contact your surgeon and see what they'd recommend.

First fill and feel guilty when eating
needtorecover replied to Glennda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Maybe I'm weird but I don't feel guilty when I eat! I feel happy because I eat *less* even if it's not down to a half cup of food per meal yet. Pre-band me would eat this in a day: yogurt and banana for Breakfast, cheeseburger, fries, Cookies, and a coke for lunch, potato chips and French onion dip as a snack, chicken nuggets with macaroni and cheese and green Beans for dinner, and then ice cream or cookies for dessert. Plus I'd drink coffee with cream, sodas, juice, and milk all day. Now I eat a yogurt and banana for breakfast, a sandwich with fruit for lunch, nuts and a slice of cheese for a snack, and dinner will be a salad plate with a Protein, veggie, and carb divided in three portions. Sometimes I'll have a small dessert like a couple pieces of chocolate or an ice cream sandwich, or I'll have a glass of wine. Unsweetened tea, coffee, and Water to drink all day. That's maybe a total of 1/3 to 1/2 the calories I used to eat. I feel good and I feel like I'm getting enough so I'm satisfied even if I'm not 100% green yet. My doctor said I should feel satisfied on a half cup to one cup of food per meal and not need Snacks. I'm definitely not there yet so I'll keep getting fills but for now I'm just happy I'm satisfied eating so much less food than I used to. My appetite was a roaring dragon before my lap band. Now it's a whining puppy I can push aside if necessary. Point is, try not to feel guilty because you still need food to survive! As long as you're losing, it's working -
How much do you eat for lunch and dinner?
alyce20 replied to tamg26k's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am now freaking out that I am eating too much! I was sleeved on August 27... I am now eating 1/3 cup of egg whites for breakfast... 2 hard boiled eggs for lunch... No yolk...a cheese stick or yogurt for snack and 1/2 cup of chicken or fish for dinner and veggie... Have I stretched my sleeve ? I also just added some peanut butter on celery for a snack...I don't feel that restricted feeling that I use to feel after a couple of bites but I just stop after I eat those amounts. Am I eating too much! -
Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery 10/24/2016
DelRey310 replied to DelRey310's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I had the sleeve over two years ago and then converted the sleeve to the bypass. Post op six days now. Yes I had to do the two week diet prior to surgery. The first week consisted of a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch, and for dinner, 1/4" chicken, Turkey or fish with veggies. Second week was all liquids, including Water, homemade broths, Protein shakes & tea. Tomorrow will be two weeks that I have been on liquids and it is very hard. I am so tired of protein shakes so I've literally been drinking more of the broths and teas over the shakes. I've been able to do about 1-2 shakes a day. I feel satisfied without restriction when sipping. I can finish one cup of tea or broth without any discomfort. I've finally lost the six pounds that I gained during the surgery from the carbon dioxide and all of the fluids from the IV. I have one more week to go on liquids and then I can have my first egg. Either poached, scrambled or egg whites. I can also have lowfat geek yogurt and cottage cheese during week 3. I can't wait for that. We are almost right around the same dates for our surgery . I'm happy for you! Keep in touch. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Starting solids and no more weight loss!!
Tracy_in_Texas replied to Monica's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my surgery on March 1st and I am still on liquids although I get to add certain mushy things like cottage cheese, and yogurt and just today I get to eat mushed squash. I am still losing and wont be eating anything solid for another 2 weeks. My surgeon, Dr. Aceves, is pretty strict for the post op diet but I think it is because he really wants to be sure the stomach is completely healed before introducing solids. I am thankful that I am not hungry. I drink CIB in the morning, then have a yogurt for snack. Lunch is 1 cup of soup. Snack is jello or maybe another CIB. Then Dinner is another cup of soup, with fruit or yogurt or cottage cheese as a snack. I know it depends on the person because I just posted on OH that I thought I might be eating too much compared to some post op just as many days as me. However, I can't wait to get my first fill sometime in mid April because I am noticing I am not staying full as long as before, and everyday I think I can drink or eat a little bit more. BUt I am still losing. So I guess I didn't give you any advice but maybe something to compare too. If you are not losing after eating solids, you may need to track what you are eating on fitday.com to make sure you aren't getting in too many calories. But it could just be that your body is in shock like everyone else is saying. -
I've tried pro-yo. It's like a protein yogurt, 20g of protein. The flavor I've had is only ok, it just tastes like a frozen protein shake.

first Dr visit today
kimpossible80 replied to loseit2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hooray! Congratulations! My surgery was 3/25 and I've lost 10 pounds consuming between 600-800 calories a day. Is your calorie intake more/less? I see the doctor this afternoon and hope to be cleared for Stage 3. Do you feel any restrictions when eating? I've been able to eat yogurts on Stage 2, but haven't ever had any restrictive feelings when eating or drinking. This is probably a good thing, but it seems like most people do have some restrictive feelings when eating/drinking. I am so worried about stretching my sleeve out move to regular eating. -
I'm scheduled for the end of next week for the band and I am scared to death. I just have this huge fear that i will wake up with the band and be hugely unhappy - I've ruined my life and I can't go back. Has anyone else had this fear? I'm sure intellectually that this is the right thing to do, and reading people's stories I know that it won't be that bad - but it still doesn't stop me from waking up in the middle of the night in a panic. I've got mixed feelings where my emotion wants to cancel but my mind wants to move forward. Can anyone tell me - I've read that "overeating" is very uncomfortable for those banded - but no one has said what that means - nausea - heart attack like chest pain - vomiting - etc. I don't fear so much overeating as forgetting myself for a moment on a hot day and starting to gulp Water or whatever. I'm today easily able to down a glass or two in one action. Heck I fear being thirsty. What about hunger? Does the band make you feel deprived - or simply satiated on much less? i'm on the fifth day of the liquid diet pre-op. I have to say the first 2-3 days were terrible (caffeine withdrawal?) - but now I feel much better - this almost seems normal. I've actually skipped some of the meals or Snacks because I haven't needed them. (pre bed snack of 6 oz yogurt I haven't needed the last two days.- and morning snack of sugar free pudding) While the Protein Shakes are awful, I found one that isn't so bad. I only wish my doctor gave me a meal plan with a little variety. Its the same thing everyday. Thanks for listening

Just 3 days to my lapband surgery and the anxiety is getting high... The bariatric nurse at the hospital gave 5 of us (all band patients) a 2 1/2 hour seminar about the procedure from start to finish...She was amazing!! Today I got my Final Final Final clearance from my physician and he is extremely happy for me. I have so much great support and I am soooo ready for this...I want to join the weight loss party so badly!! I see so many bandsters losing weight and it gives me such inspiration and motivation. I hope that I will also be an inspiration for someone in the coming weeks, months and years!! Got all my meds and vitamins and protein supps today as well. Am going food shopping for my stage 2 diet for tomorrow...egg whites, low fat cottage cheese, yogurt, cream of wheat...etc...Also going for the pre-op haircut cause I gotta be stylin at the hospital when I meet my new band...Can't beleive its here...Bring it!! First day of pureed food
Airstream88 replied to newbie123's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Dumping occurs when you eat something with too much sugar or too much fat. You would have had much more severe symptoms such as racing heartbeat, sweating, diarrhea, etc. When I first started eating pureed and then soft foods, some foods would cause me to feel uncomfortable. Sometimes it happens if something isn't moist enough. When I started real food, chicken felt very uncomfortable and I learned to eat it with salsa, hummus or guacamole to moisten it up. I really didn't do well on the pureed phase. I don't like refried beans and couldn't stand the sight of pureed meat. I stuck to yogurt, shakes, unsweetened applesauce and SF pudding mixed with protein powder for the most part. Once on soft foods I did much better. -
Does anyone else worry about all the artificial sweeteners?
samuelsmom replied to fox99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't like the sugar free stuff and don't eat it. There is no reason to have any of the SF Jello or popsicles if you don't like them. I stick with a lot of yogurt and try to avoid the "nonfat" yogurt as it usually has more sugar or sugar substitutes. unjury also has a good chicken broth which has lots of Protein. -
Started mushy foods this week- yogurt, cottage cheese, etc and now I've gained 1/2 pound? What the heck?! That's very discouraging. Anyone else have this problem? I'm still eating my protein shakes too and I drink all of my 74oz of water. I'm feeling really scared about the fact that I'm only in my 2nd week and I've gained.
