How do you "doctor" your cottage cheese?
lizrbit replied to crikkit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hey these are really great ideas. I am like Jachut in that i used to buy a 'tub' of it, let it spend a few weeks in the fridge then toss it before it changed life forms. I couldnt get around it until recently. I found they sell it in small containers similar to activa yogurt in four oz individual containers and I LOVE THOSE, they are so fresh. I just put a packet of splenda in it and grab my baby spoon and im good. Something about KNOWING each serving is fresh matters to me for some reason. Maybe im weird. -
I had 3 days I did not lose weight when I changed to phase 2 of diet. I did not worry about it to much. I am now down 18 pound and am feeling great. My husband had his surgery today and is doing well. He says his stomach is growling and he is hungry. I have been getting my 60 grams of protien barely and my 64 oz of fluid. It is hard because I am not hungry and the soup is getting old. I got tired of tasting the protein powder in every thing I eat and drink so I am now having a flavored greek yogurt for breakfast with 11 g of protien an Isopure drink with 40 g of protien maybe a shake or an egg. I eat soup for lunch just for the taste. The longer I stay on the phase 2 the less I want to eat ever. I seem to be sensitive to smells as well. I am excited about the weight loss and pray my husband recovers as quickly as I have.

Check-In and Update...
dwbrown1978 replied to dwbrown1978's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
2013SleeveGirl - For almost a month after my surgery I didn't really "eat" anything. . It was just drinking liquid protien shakes and broth. I dropped about 30 pounds. But of course my stomach was healing. When I moved to pureed foods I ate mashed potatoes with gravy and creamed Soups. My family and friends called me the mashed potato queen. I really only ate like that for about 3 weeks. For months 3-4 I could eat basically anything I wanted (my stomach healed VERY quickly according to my doctor). BUT. I found myself drifting back to old bad habits. I found myself grazing constantly. I found I was eating all the time, however, it was such tiny amounts. Like 1-2 saltine crackers, or a handful of parmesan goldfish, or 1/2 slice of sandwich bread. Maybe a bite or two of Pasta. I would get "full" and then not eat again for a couple of hours and then eat again. When I actually started to tally how much food I was eating, I was shocked. I was barely eating 200-300 calories in an entire day. ONE Protein shake should have had that many calories. My hair began "shedding" (to put it nicely) and believe it or not, my weightloss SLOWED. My nutritionist explained that I was "normal" and that most patients experiment with different ways of eating while they are adjusting to their sleeve. But she said that, of course in the long run, I was doing more harm than good to my body by not giving me the nutrients it needs to stay healthy. She encouraged me to try low-carb (higher protein & fat) diet for 2 weeks to see if it would speed up my weight loss and stop my hair shedding and other problems I was having. I bought the Dr. Atkins book and tried it out. That was about 4 weeks ago. I am losing 1/2 pound per day. I am literally shrinking. I am up to about 600-800 calories per day, but of wholesome, nutritious, unprocessed foods. Here is a typical day: Breakfast - 1 harboiled egg and 1/4 cup cottage cheese or greek yogurt or 1 slice lean turkey w/ 1 slice lean cheese (Even now it takes me about 1 hour to eat this. I chew slowly so not to overill my sleeve and get chest pains) lunch - a slice or two of lean ham w/ a few olives and roated peppers (think antipasto platter), or my current favorite a 3/4 - 1 cup of chicken caesar salad. dinner - is usually a couple of homemade meatballs or small (about 2oz.) hamburger patty, or 1 roasted chicken leg topped with ranch or guacamole (for added fat), sauteed cabbage or mashed cauliflower (instead of potatoes). I enjoy 2-3 Snacks per day: 1 teaspon of Peanut Butter (it takes me a long time to eat... ) or 2-3 olives, about 5 pistachios or cashews, or 1/2 ounce of cheese. These foods fill up my sleeve just as effectively as the crackers or pasta or bread did, but they are so much more calorically nutriently dense now. And I am adding much needed healthy fats. I feel like my body has become a furnace now. Sorry if this post is somewhat long winded.... I am hoping this helps anyone who may be struggling or stalling in their journeys and can find it helpful to see if it might work for them too. -

Something nagging me
TijuanaPlication replied to feedyoureye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I've not become intolerant to anything I wasn't already intolerant to. I did take it easy in the first weeks though. Yogurt is recommend because people tend to have less reaction to fermented products. FYI Greek yogurt has double the protein of standard yogurt (9g v 4.5g/100g). In your early days just yogurt or yogurt drink will be easier on you, as Greek yogurt is pretty heavy. Have you tried lactose free milk? I don't recall hearing of anyone becoming intolerant to eggs, so you should be OK with them Don't worry about protein too much at the beginning, just concentrate on getting your fluids. All the best for your op! -
Something nagging me
SouthernSleever replied to feedyoureye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most adults are lactose intollerant anyway we just don't realize it. Skin problems, gas, runny nose we dont' associate. Not many of us 30 year olds were meant to be still nursing (much less nursing from a cow) by design. Goat's milk is MUCH easier to tollerate as it is very close to human milk. If you can tollerate goat's milk you can tollerate goat's cheese and usually yogurt is easy on the body. Check out Coconut milk also for fluids. Beans are an excellent source of protien and you may consider adding either foul or fish into your diet. I was a veg head for years in my teens but added back in f&f because I was lacking in protien. You can also put some Peanut Butter in shakes or peanut flour. Where there's a will, there's a way. -
Frustrated w/so many things....
Sunshine replied to Sunshine's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for all the suggestions. I REALLY like mixing the unflavored mix (I have a bag already) to my sugar free pudding. I never thought of that. I do mix it with Jello when I make it, and that's decent. I can't do the greek yogurt, cottage cheese thing. I didn't do it beforehand either. My Nut doesn't want me to snack AT ALL...but, to get my Protein in...I'm gonna have to. -
Weird I haven't had any problems with junk food. A first for me. I also don't have any problems with chicken if not really dry. Sliders for me are things like shakes, yogurt and cottage cheese because the don't keep me satisfied and I am hungry an hour later. I will say some crackers seem to be sliders too.

2 weeks out... TMI bowel changes?
Tiffykins replied to Sabrina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you still on a liquid diet? If so, then it's the norm for this part of the post-op. Remember, you aren't consuming a lot of food to have big bowel movements anymore. I rarely go every day even now at over 8 months out. It's about every other to every 3 days. Try taking some Probiotics, or getting in more yogurt if you're cleared for that stage of the post-op diet. Yogurt helped tremendously with the loose, peacock colored poops I experienced early out. -
I quite often eat yogurt for a meal! I have always loved yogurt, but since surgery I love it even more and I would say it's my favorite food now. Sometimes, it's all I want and I find it very satisfying! Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app

2 Weeks Post Op and I am hungry!
FishingNurse replied to MK1986's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
at 2 weeks: -cream of wheat made with milk- kinda of thin. There is Protein in it! -pushed up cottage cheese - soft cheese like babybel- let is sit at room temp for about 10 mins. first they melt in your mouth. -greek yogurt. -if you can tolerate them refried Beans. with a little sour cream. Thats what I lived off of from 2 weeks to 1 month -
I would love yogurt! But, my doc said the liquids have to be clear the first week. I can start yogurt and pudding in a few days though...I hope!

Nuts and greek yogurt worked well for me. Put the nuts in little serving baggies so not to get carried away. Almonds were my fav.
-
My NUT was pretty useless except for vitamin and supplement advice. I low-carbed to goal and my carbs were rarely above 50, usually 20-30. I'd get to 50more than one serving of milk, yogurt, or cheese. Now that I'm at goal I don't count carbs anymore and eat what I want in moderation, protein first.

Sleeved On Monday. Protein Making Me Ill
Jeni Martin replied to Lauranbob Mc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just had your surgery... I wasn't released from hospital until four days because I wasn't drink enough of anything. Hopefully in a few days you will start being able to drink more. My favorite Protein drink is a powder protein in a blender with a tablespoon of sugar free pudding mix and either a tablespoon of Peanut Butter or 1/4 of yogurt, and I use skim milk -
To the filthy liars who say cravings go away
ziggypbang replied to KittyChick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Important topic, and I'm a filthy liar! (Wink!). I've indulged in all sorts of crap since being sleeved, but I do realize that there are significant psychological and nutritional factors that make each person's journey different. I'm six months out and remain very much in the learning phase with my new tool! Here are some of the tips that I need to stay on track: 1. I write down what I eat as well as calorie content. 2. I drink Protein on waking, as an afternoon snack and before bed, for a total of 340 calories per day. 3. I eat 40-50 calories worth of dark chocolate after lunch, or as a snack. 4. I only eat fruit once per day, and always with Greek yogurt, and limit to 2-3 oz fruit. I don't eat bananas. 5. My meals are tasty, because I feel deprived with boring food. They are half protein, half veggies. Rarely cheese, it just slows me down. Beans are great! 6. No white stuff. I don't even bother with brown rice, but may add it back when I reach goal. 7. Sometimes I have to look away from store shelves or advertisements for food. I also have to mute the TV during commercials. 8. I get my fluids! Sometimes my fluids include a Light sugar free decaf Starbucks caramel frappucino, and that is the biggest treat ever! But it only puts me back 100 calories. Awesome! 9. I started working out before surgery, and I will not stop. I can see my biceps, and that makes me proud and happy regardless of whether I continue to wear half sleeves to cover the bat wings. 10. I keep healthy Snacks available always, especially for my car ride home from work when the siren song of the beautiful cheese croissants from the super market next door used to seduce me so regularly. Even while grocery shopping I have to walk around the bakery area. 11. 50 ways to So I the Yourself Without Food is a wonderful book on mindful eating. Its heavy stuff, but its real. It takes effort to do something as big as overcoming a food addiction. But it can be done. You get the idea. These are MY ways of dealing with my imperfect mind. But they do help. May you find your path to success and a more peaceful mind, too! -
2 weeks post-op,the highs and lows, so far.
The New Kel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am two weeks post op today! I feel like October 3rd was a second birthday for me. On that day a new way of life was launched! Physically, I have been really fortunate I think, regarding healing. Surgery was uncomplicated, and recovery has gone fine. Not much pain. The only pain I have had regularly is in my deepest incision site. But that is finally almost gone! I didn't have much gas, and not a lot of nausea post-op. I am still on full liquids and trying to be creative so I don't go crazy. I have my protien shakes (which are begining to make me nauseaus), non fat sugar free yogurt, and strained soups- tomato basil is fantastic! I really needed something non-sweet tasting with protien so I took a carton of non-fat cottage cheese and I put it in the blender till it was thinned out to the consistancy of yogurt. Sounds disgusting right? It works for me, I eat 1/4 cup or less at a time and it helps the cravings for savory. I have had a couple days of extreme weakness. As in having to lay down for hours. I realized that it was not drinking enough of the Protein. Emotionally, it's been harder. I realize now I was a food addict. So, so many aspects of my life revolved around food (bad ones), pre-surgery. Now post surgery, I find that I have hours of time that I have to fill with new, healthy activites and hobbies. The biggest eye-opener for me 2 weeks out is how much time and mental attention that I used to give bad food. It was my life! So....reinventing now. So, this is my experience two weeks out! I see the surgeon and NUT Wednesday. I am hopeful to graduate to pureed or soft foods! Stats: HW: 239 9/23/16 SW: 219 10/3/16 CW: 211 10/17/16 -

Dr. Aceves Post Op Diet Question
theshwa replied to AnneAC's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Anne, i had some greek yogurt yesterday and the had the runs ALL NITE LONG!!! BAD GIRL!!!!! just thought Id share! Also, I tried to go back to work yesterday and I was NOT READY. I took a few more days off. Im so bored at home tho. How have you been feeling? -
I mix yogurt and cottage cheese. This increases the Protein content of the snack and the cottage cheese cuts the sharp flavor of the yogurt. I will have 2 oz of the mix in the afternoon as a snack. As for crunchy, I eat raw sunflower seeds, roasted soybeans and pumpkin seeds. I have not found a granola that will be low carb.

I had my 2nd fill 3 days ago. I stayed on the liquids for a day and then slowly am trying to add soft foods. I can eat an entire yogurt, no problem . Earlier today I had a protien shake and could only drink about 3 ounces. I figured maybe I was still full from the yogurt (2.5 hours before)Tonight I tried to eat some scrambled eggs and got about 3 very small bites down, I felt horrible, it felt like something was stuck, then some came back up. I am wondering if I am too full, did I eat the wrong thing, did I eat too fast? or maybe I just need to take more time with the liquids. Is this normal? Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there everyone, I'm about a week and a half out (liquid diet with Protein shakes, non creamy Soups, and Greek yogurt). Before my surgery, I lost 45 lbs on my own; now I'm sitting at home with 6 belly scars wondering how much weight is going to come off and when it's going to decide to do so. I know that everyone is different so I'm just speaking generally. How much did you lose and what was the time frame? I'm not impatient (my surgery date was a year in the making) just curious. Thanks

My nutritionist likes to say there are no "bad" foods, just foods you shouldn't eat as often as others. I tend to agree. I also like to look at this as a lifestyle change and not a diet- I do track calories as well, but just so I know I'm getting enough Protein and sticking to lower calorie. I was also told to have some calorie wiggle room, such as 1000-1200 a day instead of a set number like 1000. Some days you are physically hungrier and need more food than others. Yesterday I was physically experiencing the painful hunger pains even though I had already eaten dinner. I chose to have a yogurt and my hunger was gone.

I have the unflavored and chicken soup Unjury. I didn't like the unflavored in everything but it wasn't bad in blended up soup or instant potatoes. I also put unflavored unjury in baby cereal and instead of mixing with water or milk i mixed in no sugar added 100% juice. I also added a bit of the strawberry protein powder to a berry based yogurt. I started out on the protein shakes and just couldn't get all that liquid in, and quite frankly got tired of it as well, but I did what i could fit in. Hang in there. When you get further along you can cut down on the amount of shakes you drink and get protein from other sources. BUT you will still need to drink some protein. I will be 7 weeks post op on Monday. I have Body Fortress Whey ISOLATE protein which is 30g per scoop. I throw some frozen or fresh strawberries and banana in my nutribullet with 100% cranberry juice and then shake in the powder once that is blended. I make up the rest with nuts, yogurt in the morning, cheese, cottage cheese and the P3s they have out is really good. I can eat beef jerky, which i love because there is a lot of protein there. It gets easier. Wish I had an answer for you, but really its just that part you have to get through right now. I thought the exact same thing though, lol. Try mixing unflavored in things with flavor and dont forget you can use any seasonings you want. Good luck!
