Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
Sheribear68 replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hey peeps! I’m going to do an 18 hour fast starting tonite. I’m going to have dinner finished by 7pm my time and will eat again at 1pm Tuesday if anyone wants to join. Typically I do 16:8 three to four times weekly, but I feel like mixing it up a bit. -
Pre op Appointment
Mimiwumba replied to Hey Girl Hey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first appointment with the surgeon is 3 hrs. But I meet with the nutritionist and the exercise coach at the same appointment I think they are each 30 - 1hr. Then my first appointment with the psychologist is 3 hours. Sounds like maybe yours is all three visits in one plus labs if they are asking you to fast first. -
Pre op Appointment
catwoman7 replied to Hey Girl Hey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
that's really long. I'm wondering if they're going to do a bunch of appts that one day (psychologist, nutritionist, surgeon) rather than having you meet with them on separate days. The psych one was pretty long (for me...) because it included taking tests on the computer - I think I spent around two hours taking the stupid tests (maybe it wasn't that long - I can't remember - but it seemed like forever). Sounds like they're doing your first set of labs, too (given they're having you fast). -
How long was everyone's 1st meeting/op with surgeon? I am scheduled for 7 hrs and told to fast the night before...what should I expect

February Surgery ?
Puffy-no-more replied to PSquared_vsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope that it works out for you tomorrow. If not, this would just be a minor set back. But please let us know! I'm scheduled for the 19th and getting very anxious. I can only imagine how you feel. Best of luck to you and fast healing! -
Extreme Pain in the Roof of your Mouth with first meal
tykom replied to Justin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I believe this is related to fasting. I have not had the band and I get this sensation every time I break a fast that's over 20+ hours or an overnight fast. Those who have had the band are most likely going through longer periods of fasting than previously in their life which is why they might experience the same discomfort. -
Intermittent fasting might do the trick.

I’m in the same boat. I’m down a total of 106 pounds. Thirty of which I lost prior to the surgery and the six or so from surgery and I keep going back and forth with the same ten pounds. I need to lose at least another 100lbs to get into the ballpark of where I want to be weight wise. I work out and even started intermittent fasting and just keep gaining. Nothing is working anymore. I’ve cut carbs I keep portions small and yet gain and gain. I’m so disappointed in myself now I don’t know what to do.

January 2020 Surgery Date
Taj replied to Krimsonbutterflies's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
congratulations on your first steps!! I hit the 3 weeks stall, which I now realize after watching the Dr. V videos is typical and I’m no longer stressing about it. Tbh I was kinda getting discouraged when others were saying things like they lost 27 lbs in 11 days but had my one month post op today and surgeon said I’m doing great. Down 18 pounds since surgery for a total loss of 28 pounds since pre-op diet. At any rate, I’m not over analyzing anymore. We’re all different and will lose at different rates. Losing fast is no longer my goal. Losing and keeping it off for life to stay healthy is my only goal now. 4 weeks post op and I still struggle to get in 2 liters of water and that’s with sipping constantly. But I know I’ll get there eventually. I’d rather take it slow than keep drinking when my belly is full. Good luck on your journey!! -

Yayy!! That’s great. I am almost 3 weeks. 2 weeks 5days. And I am down 27lbs. Idk why I am losing so fast. I think it may be because I was on a more solid diet pretty fast. But idk. -
If you make your own food, then handling portions is the same as anywhere else in the world. If you are referring to dine-in restaurants, patients in the US usually get a 'card' stating that they need smaller portions (heard about this from a friend who was sleeved over there). Perhaps you should ask your doctor for something similar before you leave to the states. You can also simply ask for a 'half portion' of whatever you are ordering and most places in the states will accommodate. Appetizers will be your friend. If you're talking about fast food, ordering small sides instead of meals would be a good start. I have heard that Wendy's chili (small) is an excellent staple if you're on the go and don't have time to make food for yourself. Enjoy your trip in the states. I just got back earlier this month and loved it (am a native, though)!

Feeling a bit bad about what I ate
Isabelmonster posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I don’t know if it’s good or bad and will end up leading me back to bad habits but I go the entire week eating my 500-650 calories plus daily walking and then On like a Friday or Saturday I end up having a Reese thin just one little piece and like a hand full of skinny pop. I really don’t feel like it’s a bad thing I never have outside fast foods hence my stomach can’t handle the grease and I ended up with dumping. Which might I add if freaking annoying to last me two days. But I’m sure I’m not the only person who has a little bit of the sweets. Guilty -
Hi All. So I'm 2.5 weeks post OP and I'm finding this new stomach of mine difficult to navigate to say the least. I drank a protein shake clearly WAY to fast and now I feel horrible (bloated and a little nauseous). Did I stretch my stomach and do damage? I'm very anxious of that happening. Any wisdom you all have would be greatly appreciated!

6 weeks out - how many calories are appropriate?
Fat2FabMyWay posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I’m 6 weeks out from my surgery and I have to admit that I had a pretty easy time immediately afterwards. After nausea the first day in the hospital, I have had no side effects - no gas pain, no more nausea, no aversion to temperature/taste/texture, etc. However, I feel like I am hungry ALL THE TIME and have found that I can EASILY eat 1000+ calories in a day. I am making sure to get all of my protein in (I average about 85g per day), as well as a minimum of 64oz of water, and I have been doing so mostly without the aid of shakes/clear protein drinks the past couple of weeks. I know that meeting that protein solely with food is part of why my calories are so high but I have tried to use shakes for meals and I am just SO HUNGRY the rest of the day when I do so (which results in my eating “bad” snack-y/trigger foods that have more carbs, such as lots of cashews) that it hasn’t seemed worth it. My weight loss has started to slow, however, and it wasn’t fast to begin with so I’m worried that I’m ingesting too much. Any thoughts? Anyone else eating this many calories this far out? It’s really worrying (to me) to see so many who are 1 year out say they can barely get 800 calories when I have no issues and could honestly eat more :-/ If it matters: I’m 37, 5’11”, and my weight on DOS was 331.8. Current weight is 313.9.- 14 replies

Distal gastric bypass revision
FluffyChix replied to frosty 84's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I would think yes. Revisions don't usually result in lightening fast results. But additionally, you also are dealing with the inflammation from the surgery, plus the fluids you received via IV. So it will take time. Additionally, some people don't really start losing until they are able to eat normal food rather than protein drinks. Some people find protein drinks actually slow their losses. I was one of those people, so I do have a bias. Protein drinks were very insulinogenic for me. Congrats on your surgery! -
I can eat salad with no problem (I couldn't the first few months out - but after the 4th or 5th month, yes). What you ate wouldn't have bothered me. Not sure what happened there - unless you just ate too fast for your stomach?
-
yes time is moving fast . How you doing ?
-
Yes water goes thru you fast - here is a trick - Make a broth or base, I suggest you use Bacon Base or chicken base - Sip it every hour about 5 oz and you will stop the hunger - The base or broth has great amount of minerals also and will make you feel better - you are close to being able to add some soft things to the bases so blend and enjoy - Also add a small amount of protein powder DO NOT USE STORE BOUGHT BROTH OR BASE IF YOU CAN AVOID IT, THEY ARE LOADED WITH SALT AND CHEAP ONES HAVE CHEMICALS -

Has anyone here had the fast food restaurant, “Raising Caines”? Never heard of it but just looked up thier website. Looks yum...but then agian, anything deep fried looks yum to me! I think I’m about to plan my entire day around 2 chicken fingers and Cole slaw. LOL, I have been known to plan for indulgences myself (dessert, liquor, I'm looking at you). 2 chicken fingers and a coleslaw is 380 cals, so it's doable...from their website: .....Also, I LOVE Gilmore Girls (so does Mr. but he doesn't like to advertise it...shhhhh)

Has anyone here had the fast food restaurant, “Raising Caines”? One was just built 6 blocks from my house so of course my curiosity is peaked. My son tried it and said it is really good. I checked their menu and it is crazy unhealthy, seriously not one healthy choice. I think I’m about to plan my entire day around 2 chicken fingers and Cole slaw.

Vacation/Travel/Socializing after surgery
elsie77 replied to lisafrommassachusetts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Lisa, I’m in Ireland so I’ll just reply about your upcoming trip. You should have no problem meeting your protein goals here. Generally most restaurants have soup, chicken and fish options which most places would be happy to adjust for you if requested. If you choose to go to a cavery then they offer kid size portions if meet, potato and veg etc. if you are eating on the road, a lot of petrol stations have sandwich bars where they will make you up a salad to order so chicken, tuna, eggs, cheese all available there. And fast food outlets are quickly adapting to having healthy options, grilled chicken sambo being most popular. Finally, we have lovely protein bars here called Fulfil, loads of Flavors and available in basically every shop in Ireland, including the airport. Hope this helps. We also have a load of breweries for the hubbie:) -
Did any of you keep your surgery a secret? I have! Please give input!
BayougirlMrsS replied to Freedom&Bliss's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@Brent7 We are more secretive, but we can't be trusted with not blabbbbing.... I got sleeved 8/28/19... so 5 months ago and i have lost 39lbs... I told the people at the Crossfit, work and friends here I would be out for Hernia SX. Which turned out to be true. Dr. found a Hiatal hernia and fixed it. Anyway, by Sept. 26 (wedding day) i had lost 20lbs. I had only made it to the gym a few times before we left to get married in GA. But people at the gym and at work did notice the 20lbs. very few said anything. Had to take off another couple week for some deep tissue mole removals.... went back at about 25ish lbs... same few said,.. you're looking great. then of course Holidays and Hunting season and came and well if i have a choice between working out and hunting.... I'm going hunting. and trust the 1/2 mile walk with 10lbs of extra clothes, 10 backpack and a gun is no easy task. Anyway, fast forward to January and now im back...... 39lbs down and it seems like everyone has noticed and has come up to me to say...... Wow chris you have lost a lot of weight.... How (cuz they know i haven't been there)... I just say portion control. And it's not just the women asking.... men too....
