Which surgery are you having? Glad you passed the psych eval... I am one of them shrink types and felt like I had fooled them, too! About the doubt... normal for most of us. For me, after decades of failure, it is unreal to even contemplate that I could lose this weight. But, I did. Now that the rapid loss period is over for me, I am facing the reality of having to be very careful. But, the good news is that my pouch is small, I literally can't overeat. The bypass part of the surgery is there always, helping cut nutrient absorbing, and honestly, it is easier to avoid weight gain and with careful eating and good activity, the pounds are still coming off. I still am shocked when I look in the mirror or see myself in a window reflection... but I deserve this new body.

My Delightful first VSG turned Nightmare @ "resleeve" by Almanza
veteranwoman replied to Popsicle530's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Do you know what she eats? I don't think she mentioned it actually. Any number of things could cause weight gain that has absolutely nothing to do with eating. I was put on thyroid medicine a year ago and started gaining - it was only 5 pounds but still it was in a short amount of time with absolutely no change in my normal healthy low carb eating -
My doc told me they have had a couple denials based upon weight gain lately which makes me nervous. I'm on month 5 and I've gained 10 pounds [emoji51]

@@betterme38 What coverage do you have through UMR? I have UMR UHC Choice Plus. Monday is my 6th appointment for my 6-month Medically Supervised Diet. I think I may have gained weight from my first appt - which makes me nervous. Though! They did tell me there was no consequence for weight gain. So fingers crossed! I'm interested to see how long it takes for me to hear something back after I turn in the paperwork on Monday.

Not quite sure how to "tag" someone yet - but in response to gingeryank's post - I've been type 1 diabetic for 13 years - I was diagnosed when I was 17. I was a skinny kid back then and didn't know anything about the disease. As you grow and learn I've managed to live a fairly normal life work related / social life related you just need to be careful. What lead me to the sleeve was a bunch of steroid injections in my injured hand from sports and about 100lbs of weight gain in a year. Insulin is a growth hormone it puts weight on people. As you gain weight you need more insulin. With the steroids it was awful. I had the sleeve done on 3/9 and my pre op diet started 2/26. Since 2/26 I am down just over 41 lbs and am taking a fraction of the insulin I used to. I feel better every day. I would think it's helping I'm just concerned with any longer term issues that may arise. I don't know many type 1 diabetics that have had this done. If anyone else has I would love to hear a story and about your successes! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Just curious....
BayougirlMrsS replied to AuburnDarling's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@AuburnDarling Don't want to get into a big debate with anyone about the band... I have had mine since 2009. I love my band and she loves me back. I'm in it for the long haul. Having the band doesn't stop me from living my life. And I know of many people who have had there band removed and kept the weight off. So, it is doable...but its not the norm. A lot get it removed because they went in thinking that the band is a "sure thing" and when they failed to following the rules and make life changes.. they blamed the band. After all surely it couldn't have been them (sarcasum) But like any other WLS weight gain is a possibility. I know plenty that has Sleeve & GB that gained the weight back. It's all about what you put in it and what you want to get out of it I watch everything i eat, but mostly how i eat. Does the band help keep me in check, sure it does, but so did every other diet....till i stopped.... WW has points, Jenny has pre packed meals, Atkins had counting carbs... ETC... I made the choice to have it done and to take responsibility for what i would have to do to make it work. I exercised 5-6 days a week and walked everyday. I still walk everyday. I just don't go to a gym, but thats a diff. story. Ask yourself... on my previous diets, did i lose the weight and keep it off for a long period of time? Was the weight loss short lived? What did i do to lose the weight and gain it back? Did I make life choices in what and how i eat? did i exercise? Do you have a good support system? Why are you wanting to lose weight? Is it for you? family? significant other? Am i wanting to lose it to help a relationship? Am i prepared to lose friends & others? You should sit down and think of these things. things that change: You, in every aspect. Your weight, frame of mind, confidence, energy, the way you look at life and how life looks back at you. Your family & friends... some will support you and some won't. Being your biggest cheerleader.... because if you are waiting on other to give out all the At-a-girl you will need... you will be disappointed. Of course you can get it removed.... though i don't see why anyone would want to unless it's medically needed. It's like saying... Im only going to get this pacemaker put in till my heart does what it's supposed too... Im only getting this stint put in till i learn to eat right, stop smoking, exercise.... See the point. Im going to keep mind as long as i possibly can... and if something should happen, ill cross that bridge when or if it happens. seek out a good addiction therapist... weight loss is mostly in the head.... after all you can lose the weight.. the problem we all had was keeping it off..... Good luck in what ever your choose too do. -
VSG & autoimmune diseases?
gingeryank replied to gingeryank's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@littlered12973 I've been on sick leave since January--also to focus on aggressive treatments, some of which caused a considerable amount of my weight gain. I'm so glad your blood pressure and sleep apnea have normalized! That's quick if your surgery was only on Mar 29. My BP has normalized, too, and my surgery was on Feb 25. I can tell you, being 6 weeks out, that the weight loss has had a significant impact on my chronic pain. WLS has been the best AS "treatment" I've had thus far. I hope the same is true for you and your condition. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
VSG & autoimmune diseases?
littlered12973 replied to gingeryank's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I have a neurological disorder called CRPS and I have been really hit hard with pain since 2011. The pain in my feet had doctors increase medications which resulted in a 50+ pound weight gain. I know I am so lucky to be in a position to slow down, not work and focus on aggressive treatments but the extra pounds were really causing the pain in my feet worse. I had elevated blood pressure and sleep apnea. Happy to say that after my surgery on Mar 29, Mt apnea and blood pressure have normalized. Too soon to tell how much of my chronic pain will be affected but just loosing weight alone will be a huge start! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -

3/24 Sleeve buddy wanted
LisaMergs replied to krissy34's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi meimei. I'm in the same boat as you with the RA. There was research done that shows Bariatric surgery has a positive effect on people with RA. I was diagnosed 9 years ago- right after I turned 40. Went through every drug they had. Finally got some relief from Actemra. Get infused with that in addition to my methotrexate shots weekly along with plaquenil. My weight gain was mostly due to being on 60-80 mg daily of prednisone for 6 years. The worst best drug out there. It was the only thing that allowed me any mobility while trying to find something that helped me. I even ended up allergic to Orencia! That was lovely lol. So between lack of movement and the pred- boom! Obese. Funny thing- I was completely flaring prior to surgery and assumed it would be more of the same after. Not! I've been hitting anywhere from 3-5 miles walking a day. Who knew? I'm not allowed to resume methotrexate or Actemra until 30 days out. Kind of wondering if I will? I suppose the best bet is to have some blood work done to check disease activity level. I don't want to go two steps back, but heck- the thought of no RA meds is certainly appealing!!!! -
How is your journey 3 years out?

I was sleeved May 30, 2013. I lost 80 lbs and had never really had any problem with weight gain until last year. Then my husband retired and a month later found he had prostate cancer then successful surgery. I eat when stressed and surprise..... Before I realized it I had regained 40 lbs. Now I plan every nite to get back on track and fail before 10:00 each day. So disappointed with myself. -
I have Aetna insurance PPO II. In the requirements it says that there must not be a net gain. What exactly does that mean? Like no weight gain at all? Or you can't be more than the first weigh in? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Antidepressants Post Op?
jnt1 replied to Erin Nicole Davis Kling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded in 2008...took my small anti deps no probkems. Take them to hospital with you and they will administer to you as they should be.After years struggling with tge band im having a revision to bypass. If its possible fir you to go with sleeve instead i recommend it. Tge band is hughly fallinle and 80% of bands have to be removed within 10 years due to hiatus hernua, overworked esophagus, and weight gain. Mist banders will tell you it is the biggest medical con of the 20th century. Sorry for tge bad news but Re think if possible. Have a read of the posts under the forum heading "gastric band to bypass". It will give you a pretty realistic picture of the band. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -

So I know some will come in here and say "no, stay away!" But I'm not one of them. I'm a traveling salesman and I had my first cocktail about a month post op. Empty calories? Yeah, but we all know that. Stay away from beer, gas pain will hurt and it's like drinking liquid bread. I haven't had wine...but I stick to 3 cocktails since I entertain clients often (and the 4th meal drunken eating has completely stopped for me). Whisky Sours, Long Island's without the coke (tastes like lemonade), and hurricanes are my chosen poisons. Let's be honest though, alcohol can be a slippery slope (transfer addiction). As with everything post-op, moderation is key...if you let history repeat itself and alcohol contributed to your weight gain then the surgery was all for nothing. If that's not an issue...cheers!

Just curious....
parisshel replied to AuburnDarling's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If this is your plan, I would strongly suggest you consider another form of WLS. The lapband is a "crutch", or "tool" as many will say, without which one is merely dieting (and hungry, frustrated and sad). Many who have had bands removed will testify to regaining the weight lost with the band (plus additional pounds, which is similar to what happens when a non-surgical dieter stops dieting). Most former bandsters on this platform post that when they had their bands removed, they went on to do a revision surgery such as bypass, sleeve or RnY. So based on that, if would suggest that if you plan to get banded, and then have the band removed, you should also include in your plan a budget for revision surgery, or an acceptance for the rebound weight gain. I've never read about a bandster who kept their weight off after band removal. -

I checked out of the hospital and my blood pressure had already changed back to the level I had prior to my doctor prescribed drug induced weight gain. This is game changer! Happy to hear you are having good weight loss results with the Water pill. Not so good about the side effects . But like you said they are better than the weight gain. So glad you felt well enough today to get out for a bit of a walk. Once that stent is gone and your back feeling like yourself again I am sure you will be back to walking like you use to.
