Hey ! I am 2 weeks post op, I kno this may sound horrible but when I see people saying they gain weight, does this mean your sleeve isn't restricting you or what? Or you eating pizza burgers and fries? I say all that because it would be nice to know things will change...meaning I am 2 weeks post op and have had 3 baby spoons of yogurt....rest Water,tea,milk....so having a pretty bad dc regrets right now, would love to know hey I can get back to normal eventually and make better food decisions. Right now there are no food decisions...

I hear ya- my pre op diet sounds exactly like yours except I found out I can have SF Popsicles and SF Jello and some kind of Yogurt 4 oz with the Protein powder or silk or 1/% milk or carnation instant breakfast- but pretty much - I just drank broth and tea all day and tried to keep busy.

Pre-Op Need Motivation Help !
heidikat72 replied to Serenity141's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I lost 15% of my starting weight during my 6 month medically supervised period (6th appointment was last week, now just awaiting insurance approval and hopefully surgery on June 17th). I wasn't trying to lose a specific amount, just not gain and wanted to start making some changes. This is what worked for me. 1. Log everything and I mean EVERY BITE into a tracker like myfitnesspal. Even just eat like you normally do for a couple of days so you can see where you are. 2. Next, stop drinking calories - no soda, no sweetened tea, no starbucks 3. Cut out potatoes and Pasta (wasn't much of a rice eater anyway but cut that out too). Cut out almost all bread - occasionally I'd have a sandwich for lunch on a whole wheat deli thin - but not every day. I did occasionally have oatmeal for Breakfast but made sure it was a higher Protein, lower sugar option like quaker weight control or think thin brand. 4. Meals basically consisted of lean meat and lost of non starchy veggies - think broccoli, brussel sprouts, spinach, swiss chard. Afternoon snack was typically a little greek yogurt and some berries. 5. Move more. I was pretty much sedentary when I started so I started by parking slightly further away at work (I now park a lot further away). And started with doing just 5 minutes on a pedal exerciser a couple of times a night. Now 6 months later I routinely get in over 5,000 steps a day but it was most definitely a gradual build. Do a little more each day - it really does add up over time! 6. Gradually reduce calories every couple of weeks. All of this was done with help of my NUT. She'd look over my food log every month and discuss what was good, what needed tweaking etc. I won't lie - while simple to figure out what to cut when you log, it is hard to do. But think of it as starting your healthy new life now. You can do it! -

I am 1 week out before having the lap band. The statistics that I was given is 40-45% of weight loss of your total ideal weight over 2 years. Are you being too hard on yourself? Don't give up. It's only been 6 months. So if you are 300lbs you will loose about 120lbs over 2 years which translates to 5 lbs a month-which is what you are at now. I have no idea what your starting weight is but this is just an example. You are not a failure, keep trying. quote name='Ninababy' timestamp='1294677423' post='1557873'] I am 6 months out from being banded.. and I have only lost around 30 pounds. I feel like a huge failure! I am doing what I thought was right.. but I still get very very hungry at times and I know eat more than I should but I keep it to Protein if I can... I am working much harder than I thought! I have had 5 fills!! I have about 8.5CC in a 14 CC band... I thought I would be down so much more! the scale does not budge. I have yogurt ( greek) for breakfast... some greens with Tuna or chicken for lunch with lemon juice... and then protein ( chicken, turkey or fish) and vegs for dinner.. and very tiny amount of Carbs... like a spoon full. I get really hungry after dinner!! I have a little high fiber cereal and skim milk... I drink tea..decafe... with splenda.. I just have not dropped in a couple months. Not a pound... I am starting to think this band is not working for me... Anyone ever have success after a very long plateau? What jump started you....? give me some hope... or otherwise advise...

Well I can say the Fiber one in the yogurt did make it not slide on me... and I felt fuller... I am trying to drink more... I will keep this up and see... the hunger is better today..! You folks know your stuff...

Protein Powders, best taste, little or no after-tsete? Suggestions, please?
Swanton_Bomb replied to Schnauzer3's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
We have the best intentions to stock up and prepare before surgery, but learn from my mistake and don't buy too much. I found Premier Protein the most palatable, I bought a metric shiz-ton of it, and now I have to hope that I can return it because your tastes change and I can't stomach it. Many people like Premier Protein, especially when mixed in coffee. I've been making my own with Greek yogurt and Fairlife milk. Fairlife milk is really helpful to have on hand, it has more protein and less sugar than regular milk, it is lactose-free and it tastes like regular milk. I've been using it to thin out other products that are too sweet and to use instead of water to give things a protein boost. -
Surgery is getting closer.
Hiraeth replied to Kaylaseibert's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why are you nervous? Are you nervous about the surgery, the diet, or both? The surgery was easier than I expected. My only challenges were the gas pains that lasted for almost 2 days and getting in enough liquid. My pre-op diet lasted for one week and was actually pretty easy. I didn't really feel miserable like some people say they felt. I made sure to drink at least 3 Protein shakes a day and eat about 2-3 light and fit yogurts a day. Also, drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself fuller longer. Good luck! -

Try scrambling with some heavy cream if you are looking for scrambled. I am allergic, so no eggs for me. Also, having surgery on the 15th, my Dr said nothing like eggs until after my next appt (on the 31st). I'm on "thin enough to pass through a regular straw". The thickest I've tried is yogurt thinned with soy milk, which went down well. -

Thank you Ginger Snaps and Tgarden. I am doing much better today. Off the pain meds mostly...I am taking a dose at night as I seem to be pretty sore by end of day and feel this will help me sleep. I may not need tonight but will judge by how I feel. My older daughter went to the store for me and got the Kroger Carb control yogurt as it has the lowest sugar but it only has 9 grms of Protein...I either need to add the unjury no flavor protein to this or choose a different yogurt. Like your idea Ginger Snap of adding the Jello powder to the plain yogurt- this way I get the protein I want. Thanks! -

Hi! I had a RNY on 7/15 (with a hysterectomy). I'm home and on liquids. I see so many more options than I was given!! I don't have yogurt in my list. I'll have to call my NUT tomorrow and see what she says. Anyway, we ended up renting a wheelchair because I have five kids (three bio two foster) and couldn't be stuck at home anymore. We went to a local fair and I walked some and ride some and it was lovely to get out! Anyone restricted on cold items? I'm told no ice in drinks. Is it truly because it will cause pain? -

I'm technically not supposed to have oatmeal but I was out of cream of wheat I can only have protein such as pureed chicken ,tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad Egg drop soup, scrambled eggs, yogurt cottage cheese, no carbs, no sugar,no vegetables, no fruit I Have lost 19 pounds in 3 weeks -
Hello , Sorry again I have more questions.I am 5 days post operative. I haven't had any nausea or vomiting fluids and pureed food go down fine. Today for breakfast I had about 3 ounces of oatmeal. Lunch I had about 3 ounces of egg drop soup. For dinner I had 3 ounces of low fat yogurt and later 3 ounces of low fat cottage cheese. This seems like a lot of food. Is this normal for most or to much?

How many grams of Protein?
Lynda0221 replied to jessicadyan7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said to get at least 60 grams of protein a day. You could add unflavored protein powder to foods and another thing that I do is add fat free dried milk to yogurts and Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast. This will help you reach the goal of 60 grams a day. -
AM I the only one? I love yogurt - greek, sweet, whatever - but it doesn't go down very well. I can eat steak and chicken, but not yogurt? Anyone else have this goofy issue?

No problem with yogurt here. As a matter of fact it is almost a slidder food for me.

Help! Need advise on son's band.
Bea1128 replied to crwagpac98's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as he's getting plenty of water, I wouldn't worry too much. He's drinking Isopure, so he's getting protein. There is also milk, sugar free popsicles, and jello. For the mushy stage there's pudding, yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, any kind of soup is good. There are tons of cream based soups, surely there's one he likes out there. If it's a chunky soup, just puree it or mash it up really fine. Right now is a healing time and this is only his 3rd day post-op. As long as he isn't getting dehydrated he's fine. -
8 days post op, lost over 30lbs, still on liquid diet. Story / Questions
TijuanaPlication replied to warrior68's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hmm... I was told that full liquids were things like milk, very runny yogurt, soup, etc, so egg drop soup and tomato soup should be OK according to that criteria. I'd start out with with only a mouthful or 2 of anything new and if you feel OK, you can always have some more later once you know you're OK with it. -
Ideas for "mushies" phase
honk replied to treysee26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would check with the doctors office to understand exactly what they want you to be eating at this point. My doctor called for first week of mushies to the yogurt, cottage cheese or ricotta. Second week I could have canned chicken or tuna. Remembered just because something can be put in a blender doesn't mean that it's not going to be heavy sitting in your pouch. -
I had my surgery 16 days ago. When whenever I eat, unless it's clear liquid or yogurt, I get indigestion. For an hour after I eat, no matter how finely pureed, chewed, soft, or whatever it is, or how small the bite, or how many times I chew, I get horrible indigestion that feels like I have to throw up. Everything feels like it's stuck in my chest, not even in my stomach. I still have to walk around, and a half hour after I eat when I'm able to drink I can push it down it bit, but it stays stuck for a good hour. My girlfriend usually has to rub or pat my back until I can burp, then I feel better - I feel like an infant. How long does this horrible side effect last? I have to eat, but the indigestion is so bad it makes me not want to eat at all!

I had my RYN on Nov 1st, recovered well, and just washed my hair and noticed bunch of hair came out, and i was in disbelief, brushed my hair and a string of hair came out! I cannot believe that i am in hair loss? At 18 days? I am supposed to be on the puree stage, but i like only light and fit greek yogurts by Dannon and chicken broth with carrots. But i do struggle to get in the 80g of protein and water because of the chest pain when drinking/eating as jt passes down. I have to go very slow. Is this "normal" to have hair loss before 3 weeks? I had surgery 4/9/2012, I was terriried that my hair would fall out. My doctor's office could not stress enough that if you get your protein minimum 64 grams/day you will not loose your hair. I make sure that I get about 80 grams of protein a day buy drinking 64 grms in a protein shake, cottage cheese and yogurt. I have not noticed any hair loss what so ever. I also take the Botin as my doctors suggested. Please up your protein and start taking Biotin it will help.

Unjury unflavored in my coffee for added protein??
Catalystmb replied to Pizzaman's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
the turnaround for me was under a week! I am pre banded(enduring the 6 month doc sup deit) but wanted to try some of them Proteins drinks to find one I liked. The Unjury is GREAT. I have had al but the chicken Soup. I can't bring myself to try that one. I don't have them hot. I make a 1 scoop unjury shake in the morning with a 1/4c of frozen strawberries and 1/4 c FAGE Yogurt. Yummy and super nutritious. I wonder about the bits of strawberry post op. I will probably wean myself off of the fruit. I make the same shake with Van, Choc and strawberry flavors on different days. I last signed up for auto delivery which yields a small discount. :rolleyes2: -
Warning - this may become a bit graphic. Oh my. That was certainly no fun. I hope it was on the "bad" side, as PBs go, because I certainly can't see going through that as casually as some of you guys seem to go through yours. So I was banded Wednesday, and I'm still on liquids, watery cream Soups, and yogurt. DH was home from work and DYING to do something to help me out, so I told him there was some cream of broccoli Soup in the counter, and he could make it for me... I told him to "make it the way I like it" (a.k.a. bandster style - strained to remove pieces, and watered down to regular soup consistency). I've learned not to assume DH knows what I mean in this new eating lifestyle. He brings me my soup, I start eating 'cause I was starving. I've had (or so I thought) no restriction, and have been using regular spoons to eat - no prob. About 4 bites in a take a spoonful and feel weird chunks in it, but before I can catch or cough them up, they slip on down my throat. Almost immediately I had what I can best describe as tummy cramps, but that's not an accurate description. Within a half a minute I had pain on my sides (like where I would put my hands if placing my hands on my hips), and an INTENSE pain in my back/spine, between my shoulder blades. Thanks to you all here I had a really good idea of what was happening, so I did all the things I've read about for months and months... walked around, put my arms up in the air, tried taking a few jumps, tiny sip of Water, etc. Nothing helped. So the PAIN goes on, for five... ten... fifteen... twenty minutes. I have a high pain tolerance, but we're talking "Great googley moogley, make this spine-wrenching pain END and I will sacrifice my first born to the great god of PB!" kind of pain. I'm pacing the kitchen and nothing is helping, and at this point I'd do anything that would stop the pain. I start - not sliming - but excessive salivating, so I used paper towels to "soak" it up. Which in and of itself makes me gap. I had to burp a few times, but it couldn't get out. Then... PB. My husband was upstairs and came running down, he swore I was puking b/c, well... that's exactly what it sounded like, but it was just saliva & a chunk of CHEDDAR cheese. Remember when I said not to assume DH knows my new eating lifestyle, and that my strained cream soup had some kind of weird chunks in it? This is what I mean. Normally I like my cream of broccoli with melty chunks of sharp cheddar in it. He meant well... He came down on turned on the water at the sink and rubbed my back. When he saw the cheese he started tearing, b/c he knew he had put it in the soup, but meant well. Poor guy. Well, so PBd, then dry heaved three or four times, felt some instant relief in the pain, so I went to sit down but as soon as I sat the pain started back up. Less intense, but still there. I tried sitting down, reclining, sitting down... reclining... D is rubbing my shoulder blades where the "spine" pain is, and was fretting because he knew I was hurting... I tried walking a bit, but again nothing helped... Another 10 minutes in and the salivating starts, then like the pain wasn't enough - I get struck with hiccups (keep in mind my ncisions are still sensitive and hiccups are living agony). I cried out a few times, and my poor DH was out of his mind with worry and a feeling of helplessness... so I'm in pain just waiting to PB again, my spine feels like someone is trying to pull it out, my hips feel like they're going out of socket, and my DH is on my tail asking what he can do, is there anything that will help, do I need him to call 911... I'm trying to deal with the pain and get him to understand there's nothing he can do, and the best thing is just stay out of my way while I pace and wait for it to come up... he's tearing up again, flipping out because he can't help, and because he put the cheese in the soup, I'm pacing... and PB strikes again. Much less this time. Once productive, one dry heave, and yep! There's that second chunk of cheese that slid down my throat. DH is standing right behind me, rubbing my back, telling me he's so sorry, he should have known better than to put the cheese in, how could I everforgive him for causing this much pain, etc. The poor guy. So, my first PB. MUCH sooner than I would have ever expected it. I know one food I'm never eating again... I guess I'm back to broth for a few days, but I do have to ask... is this "average" for a PB, or does it sound like a bad episode?
