I find my best workouts are in the mornings after I’ve fasted for at least 12-14 hours. today I killed a pretty advanced noon class and I was 17+ hours fasting then. -
Alright team, I go into the hospital at 6am in the morning and I am so nervous excited, anxious scared all of it.. whew; this time tomorrow can't get here fast enough!

Did anyone go crazy before pre op diet started?

I thought that would be really tough to do, but actually, I got used to it really fast. I haven't done it since surgery almost five years ago. -

Do any of you do orange theory or CrossFit or workouts that burn 500 calories? I’m interested in trying intermittent fasting but my workout is at 6:15 am and I can’t imagine it would be healthy to not at least have a protein shake after. Or do you just do IT on days you don’t work out? -
Saggy Sophie no more. Plastic surgery to the rescue!

Day 15 post op My second official long warm shower with compression garments off! Only I ran out of hot water. Maybe I should qualify that as a very long, long, long, long shower! Haha. It felt so good. A definite team effort. While Sophie takes her shower - the boys zealously wash and then, dry garments in the closet with a blow dryer for a fast turn around. Pretty exciting stuff for Bobby, the wire fox terrier. It did not hurt to re-armor this time as last. The breasts felt tight and the tummy is flattening. Again, I share these as clinical not personal. I see the surgeon tomorrow for my 16th day check up and I think the tape comes off over the stitches with new garment instructions? I feel so much better after the constipation subsided around day 12. Hopefully, that system is regaining normalcy. This is certainly not a surgical procedure for the faint hearted. I am still very pleased with the decision to have had removed the 5 pounds of excess stretched skin. Still a long road ahead... physically and emotionally. Last night was a great comic relief! And, battling that big bad hair dryer was simply exhausting notes the pouch. -
What's something you wish you had known before losing all the weight?

Had I know how fast my body would change, I wouldn't have spent hundreds of dollars worth of interim clothes and tailor costs on items I would wear for less than a month 🙄 -
Is anyone taking Victoza prior to or post WLS.

I still have 2 pens and was considering 0.6 to see if it would help restart weightloss . All my morning fasting numbers are between 110-130. -

Zero calorie fillers like Shirataki noodles IMO aren't compatible with both fasting and maintaining. How about Edamame pasta instead? -

FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Well, I'm an outlier and my maintenance calories are only around 1100/day. So the days I do IF or ADF are purposeful low cal days. That way on my Feast Days, I can have 1400-1600 cals and still maintain my weight week in and week out. So I don't worry about getting things "IN" other than making sure I have sufficient protein. Cals hit the low that I want. Cuz I'm fasting. Since it's ADF and not an every day thing, I don't worry about hitting some mythical caloric threshold. The test for me is whether my weight drops during the week, or stays within a pound or two of itself. Right now I'm on the way back down from 134lbs. I'm 133.2lbs today and tomorrow will expect to be 132ish again. -

So how many calories do you maintainers try to do after a fast? I just had some Italian meatball and shirataki noodle bake that hubs made last night. It was 3 meatballs with some Alfredo sauce, with a pile of the shirataki. Totally filled me up and From what MFP tells me, about 350 cals. Prolly won’t “eat” again til later when I’m at work and will have a protein shake. I might even get a little crazy and add in 2oz mixed nuts...... 🤣🤣🤣 -

Yeah, but I’ve learned that if I don’t fast for at least 18-20 hours I don’t get the benefit of increased focus. Had a killer class just now (18 hrs fasting) but since yesterday was such a skimpy non-fasting calorie day, I decided to go ahead and eat rather than try to stretch it another day. We’ve got major weather coming our way, and I decided eating before work would be preferable to not-eating in case it gets really bad out there -
@AngieBear Your transformation has been phenomenal. Its been great watching you int the OOTD. Can you believe how fast your weight loss has been? Fitness goals are a great way to transition into maintenance. Any races on your bucket list?

are those your maintenance calories? with fasting, you don't worry about calorie deficits on fast days. You make up for them by having feast days. With fasting, your insulin is super low so fat stores can be accessed. So there is very little "deficit" to be had unless you have no or very low fat stores...as long as your insulin is low enough that your body can access them. And typically that's harder for people who each carbs, than for those who are already following a low carb or keto style diet. -

Whew! First I need to return to the fold 😂 but if I want to get in quick I will do a 24 dry fast or 36 hr wet fast, then continue with 20 /18 hr fasts. This is what works for me and (TMI time) I can tell by bathroom responses whether or not I'm there. -

How long do you fast to induce autophagy? A 20 h window is supposed to have moderate autophagy benefits. Do you fast for longer? -
@ms.sss I do a dry 26 hour fast 2× a year for religious reasons. Everyone is entitled to feel crapy and moody. If anyone knows that it's me then you go down the line of why do I feel so bad other ppl have it much worse ect. *Sigh* life is so complicated P.S. doing another fast right now Sent from my SM-G950U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Not me. Work gets intense. And I have to be “on” physically and mentally bc if I lose focus for just a few seconds my lack of focus could result in dire consequences. All in all, yesterday was a fairly low calorie day despite me not fasting. Had a PP shake, then a handful of mixed nuts, then for the sake of speed (we don’t get any kind of scheduled breaks so I eat on the run-literally) I dumped a P3 thingie in some leftover salad. If I’m generous, I prolly had about 600-700 calories, but it was enough. I was getting hunger pains when I got home at 11:30, but I drank down a bottle of water and was able to fall asleep with a combo of journaling/reading/ meditation before 1am. Was able to sleep til almost 9am and now I’m within an hour of class, then I can grab a quick bite to break fast before I’ll need to go to work again. Feeling strong, but I’ve had to drink 2 bottles of water since waking to get through a couple of hunger surges. -
@chayarg, that IS a low calorie day. I think though when you are fasting, its a given that you won't reach protein goals? I'm thinking of doing a fast too to detox myself from all the crap I have been eating, and maybe lift me out of this bum mood I am in. Out of curiosity, what is the longest fast you have done? @Apple1 & @Losingit2018 : I had to google Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and educate myself on this (I have heard it mentioned on "House", but never really understood what it entailed). Now that I know, I feel for you guys for having to deal with this...and at the same time really impressed that you guys keep on truckin' with the weight loss efforts despite things working against you ❤️. I feel kinda bad now for being sucky about myself 💔.

I had my first “clumping” episode yesterday. Not sure if I ate to fast or if the food was to dry. I’m 3 weeks post op RNY so this is my first experience with this. It lasted for four hours! Does it usually last this long? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Weight history requirements?
AZhiker replied to BigSue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
https://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/blue-cross-blue-shield-tennessee-weight-loss-surgery.html I think you will find the info here. It says "Most recent attempt was within 2 years of request for surgery." This is documented by your doctor. As long as you have attempted to lose weight within the past two years, you will be fine. My doctor simply documented my attempts - Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, Atkins, South Beach, starvation, Over Eaters Annonymous, etc. -

It’s all good. Today wasn’t a good fasting option bc I’ve got a longer shift, and I got up way early to run, then go to Pilates. By the time I got home around 10am, I was already feeling the deficient so I settled down with my coffee/protein shake. Besides, today’s gonna be rough at work as we have a floater AND my lead tech is out with family issues. Not a good day to be cranky or hangry, so tomorrow we fast, lol
