Revision Lapband to RNY
catwoman7 replied to Lady B 925's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I really only needed my husband around the first couple of days. I had almost zero pain and don't have children - but it was a bit of a challenge to get out of bed (sore abs). I probably could have done it myself if necessary, but it was nice having him around to bring me things so I wouldn't have to get out of bed so often. if you're on liquids the first couple of weeks you probably don't need to worry about cooking (well, except if you have to cook for family - in that case, the suggestion above about making things in a crockpot before you go off to surgery is a good one). I jumped right into purees when I got home from the hospital (my plan allowed for that), so I was eating mostly things like Greek yogurt and hummus, so cooking really wasn't an issue for me the first couple of weeks. -
Ground turkey breast, turkey breast cutlets, chicken tenders, eggs, cottage cheese, tripple zero greek yogurt (orange cream), Fairlife low fat milk, Starkist tuna pouches, mozarella string cheese.
-
Chicken, chicken sausage, Siggi’s yogurt, cottage cheese, Fairlife 0% milk w/ Swiss Miss Reduced Calorie Hot Chocolate, Quest bars, Think Thin bars, eggs, string cheese... those are my go-to protein items. Hope that helps!

What do you consider a (melodramatic) Emergency these days? Late to work? 2lb weight gain? Bad date? Spilled coffee? Sour yogurt? Budget due? Teens? How do you combat it? How do you process your emotions now instead of letting them eat away at you? Or you eating them into submission? What tools & (let's be honest) foods are on your emergency bag to keep you from going into shock?

My go to's for that phase were Pureed roasted veggies like cauliflower, butternut squash, beets, and sweet potatoes. Pureed fresh fruits like mango, strawberries (sieve for seeds), bananas, etc. I also liked FF cottage cheese, yogurt, SF jello and SF pudding. I hated the broth, I still have several packets of that awful bone broth everyone raves about....yuck... 🤢 For the pureed fresh produce, I recommend getting the Nutri-Ninja. That thing will puree a brick if you tried, I think.

Bad Good Better Best - survey time
FluffyChix replied to KCgirl061's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok, great thread! I'll play! Lateral choices are what shore me up all the dang. time! I'm at the point where truly my life is about 90-95% Best and 3-8% Better and about 2% Good. I haven't gone "hog wild" eat the whole candy bar thing since before surgery. Hallelujah. The angels sang. Bad - A whole order or BWW Wings with Fried Cheese Curds and Fried Mushrooms Good - Having 2 wing flats, and 2 curds and 1 mushrrom with celery and blue cheese Better - Air Frying the wings at home and tossing with a zero calorie sauce to keep it lower fat. Air frying broccoli and cauliflower and making Grk Yogurt Ranch Dip. Best - Air Frying chicken breasts with a mustard garlic coating. Making a great salad with a few pumpkin seeds and reduced fat feta with some zero calorie dressing and a little avocado. __________________________________ Bad - Wasting an entire day on YouTube vids and FB and BP (sorry to say wasting, not really wasting...but losing myself in it) Good - I have yet to establish metrics for this parameter Better - Ditto Best - *sniff* Purgatory. Pure. And. Simple. -
Yes, Grady cat! I can ear a cup of yogurt, but chicken is a different story. 1/2 cup and the brakes come to a screeching halt!

Is Weight Loss Surgery for Me?
KCgirl061 replied to gch81kb's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well we're all a little biased here, most of us would say YES GO FOR IT! Do a lot of research on your own. You need to make this decision for you, you cant rely on us or your mom who I'm sure has your best interest in mind but is likely focusing on nothing but horror stories and ignoring the overwhelming success stories. My advice is to browse forums and support groups like this one and get an idea of peoples' real life struggles. But Look up MEDICAL JOURNALS for information about complication rates. Don't go off what a handful of people's perceptions and opinions are regarding which surgery is right for you. I'm very happy I had my sleeve done. There are frustrating times, when I'm eating something so yummy I want to pig out and can't! I miss soft buttery bread but know that's not in my best interest to include in my meals. I've developed lactose intolerance and have keep lactaid handy anytime I want yogurt, cheese, or a protein bar. But these nuisances are nothing compared to the hassles being overweight was. -
So I'm 4 weeks post-op from sleeve and have been on purees for about a week. In the last 2 days I have found that I am actually tolerating less food when I try to eat something. Three days ago I was able to eat 3-4 oz of yogurt, re-fried beans, sweet potatoes, etc. Yesterday I could only eat about 1 oz of anything I tried before I felt some restriction. I'm assuming it's normal to go up and down with how much one can tolerate, but I'm surprised by how little I can take in at the moment. Liquids are still fine. I am going to try waiting longer between eating (I was doing every 2 hours) to see if that helps. Anyone else experience this?

No pre op liquid diet but I have been tracking calories and making better choices over the last 3 months and the surgeon was happy with the 10 pounds I've managed to lose since my last visit. I'm not since that's so little for 3 months although I really have only been getting stricter with myself for two months. Still not very much. I've done keto and atkins before so watching carbs and protein is something I am familiar with. I'm getting gradually used to having 1200 calories or less a day. I've signed the consent forms. I cleaned out two Grocery Outlet stores of Siggi's plain yogurt today. It was 2 for a dollar. 16 g of protein, 6 carbs, 4g of sugar and 90 calories. They are so creamy and delicious and provide a lot of protein. Usually they are 2.00 each at the other stores so I stocked up but it was maybe 8 or 9 in total. They mostly had the sugar filled flavored ones. -
February 2019 weight loss buds

Uggg, I decided to try an experiment by upping carbs and calories a bit since I’ve been keeping everything very low. I’m a bit nervous that if I keep everything this low I’ll have no room to drop further if weight loss stops. So I had 1/4 c of oatmeal (no sugar) and 1/2 sf Greek yogurt for breakfast. For lunch I had tuna and 1/4 c of Mexican corn and I swear I have felt like I’m staving. I don’t usually snack between meals, so this feeling is unusual for me. I already had cheese/almond/craisen snack thing, 9 carbs, but dabs I feel like I’m shaky and starving already. Clearly I can’t handle 10 carbs at a time I guess.... -
I was sleeved Feb 25th and have lost 52 lbs. It's dlowing way down, but I'm tracking with my fitness pal and wearing a Fitbit. I eat mostly the same thing for breakfast. Yogurt and pumpkin seeds. Chicken salad or tuna for lunch and shrimp, chicken or beef for dinner. Congrats on your weight loss!

April 2019 Surgeries!
leahdavis33 replied to CajunSam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have trouble with the protein shakes as well. I bought the unflavored protein isolate (I like the isopure unflavored whey protein isolate) from Amazon. For 1 scoop, you get 25 g protein. You can add it to anything. Yogurt, soup, smoothie, cottage cheese... I sometimes make my own shake with 1 scoop protein, 8 Oz either skim, coconut, or almond milk, a little vanilla extract, a tsp cocoa, sweetener, and a couple ice cubes... Have to wait a few minutes for the foam to settle it, but the protein powder has no flavor or aftertaste. That is my go to rescue to get the protein in when I'm struggling. -
I have also lost 50lb my surgery was 3mos ago today. I am very happy with it so far. Still have a protein drink every am, yogurt, almonds, meat and veggies. I have had some bread and very small amt carbs, too scared of dumping.

overeating after gastric sleeve
FluffyChix replied to MaryNa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is sooooo common. It's the thing I've been yelling about since surgery, but there are very few newbies who want to listen to this. Obesity is a disease. It has many factors. And some of those factors include our own relationships/behaviors with food. It's not just the substance--meaning it's not just "what" we eat, but it's also "when" we eat, "why" we eat, and even more-- "HOW" we eat. Then there is the metabolic derangement that goes along with things that creates obesity. The surgery is just a tool to jack our hormones and tummy capacity for a short window of time, and can help us lose weight quickly, and in the process it hopefully allows us time to gain new skills, develop new behaviors and relationships with food. But the further out you go, the less and less protection it offers. Our tools "mature." Few stretch--minority of the time--most just simply mature to an increased capacity. The doctors expect that. But many do not warn us. So we end up over eating, not learning our lessons up front, or just being human. And we regain. And we feel like we fail WLS. The beatings will never make morale improve. ((hugs)). Make a list of 3 things today that you need to accomplish and CAN accomplish. Make them actionable. Make them attainable: 1. Hygiene: Shower, do your hair, put make-up on, and get dressed in fresh clothes. 2. Plan your meals for the day (protein first 3-4oz + steamed veggies (al dente) + avocado/tomato salad (1oz each). Stick to that plan. (Don't forget protein first and no drinking water with your meal or 1 hour after) - weigh your food 3. Walk 5 - 10 minutes x 3 times today. Check them off your list. Go back to basics. 1 cup of food per meal. 3 meals per day and 1-2 tiny snacks if you can't eat only the 3 meals. The snacks need to be BORING! The snacks need to be <100cals, <5g carbs and healthy (i.e. hb egg, 2oz turkey lunch meat, or veggies with Grk yogurt ranch dip). Go to bed and sleep 8 hours in a completely dark, cool room. You can do this. Do it one day at a time. Join a local WLS support group. Go back to your RD. Get a referral to a counselor!!! Do it!!! It's not too late. -
I’m also down almost 50lbs! Feeling sooooo good. I eat a lot of Greek yogurt, Sargento Smart Balance trays, and meat with veggies. I do find myself sneaking a chip or piece of cookie on occasion - trying to stop myself from slipping into old bad behaviors and focus on getting healthy.

Can we talk about food aversion
nomorefattypatty replied to newmebithebypass's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Cottage cheese and peaches and greek yogurt are my rescue foods also. There are days when I eat food, but there are days that every time I think about food I get nauseous. Dont be afraid to stay on a lighter diet when this happens. Sometimes you have to go back to lighter diet and slowly add things back to your diet. I'm on my 3rd year after having the sleeve and I've learned to pay attention to my stomach more. I was 238, surgery at 209, The smallest I got was 142, I gained back about 25 pounds but when I'm strict with my snacking I can now easily lose weight like when I was 40 but I'm 57 and the sleeve is a good surgery but I have to revise to bypass surgery due to acid reflux. I bought one of those home meals at the store the other day. It was chicken fajitas. I ate it and thought I was going to throw up. Not sure if I ate it too fast or the spice? My stomach has been tender ever since. I have only throw bile up once, but this was a horrific experience. It's such a chore to find foods that don't hurt. I'm not a cooker much. I'm loving off yogurt and more yogurt. Ugh The struggle is real! -
Make sure to bring protein drinks to work. This way you are getting your ounces of fluids in and your protein. Bring an insulated lunch bag and throw in some veggies and yogurts, hummus, etc. You got this! Where there is a will, there is a way!
-
Oh Yes! But this is your head talking, not your stomach. Arm yourself with ready to reach protein and snacks: Tuna, Yogurt, cottage cheese, Almonds, mozzarella cheese, popsicles, Beef jerkies.... I feel I get really hungry after dinner when we sit and start watching TV. I give in to my head hunger. Instead of eating another slice of pizza though, I'll have a banana instead. Exchanged Hershey's chocolate bar with Sugar free Russell Stover bit size chocolates. INstead of Ice cream, I'll have a sugar free pudding... I also try to eat between 800-1,200 calories daily. Good Luck. You got this!

Stomach hungry but brain is not?
Brent701 replied to Brent701's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I am on something I didnt realize it was a PPI. 30 days something for stomach acid. Last night i was cleared for full liquids and today I tried Dannon light and fit and sf pudding. My plan calls for 1oz but I was able to finish both 4 oz cups. I assume this feeling of restriction is going to come from foods that are more dense. Perhaps greek yogurt I would feel it more just have to get some from the store. Is the 1oz per serving more of a safety thing or weight loss related because Im only getting a bit over 330 calories per day all from my protein shakes so far and cant see the harm in having a 4oz serving of yogurt or pudding. Still not feeling any signs of hunger or cravings. -
Fried ham, with mushrooms, and melted cheese drizzled in mustard has been my fave last couple days...air fried corn tortillas my nut allows with beans n cheese n seasoned. Greek yogurt frozen into popsicles is my night time snack... Sent from my VS986 using BariatricPal mobile app

Feeling like this didn’t work....
49Nash replied to KimB7811's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 days out. I do not have to avoid drinking 30 min before/after fluid since I am still on full liquids. About day 4 or 5 I noticed I could eat a 5 Oz container of Greek yogurt (slowly) without feeling restriction. I started giving myself that 30 min window and now I can only eat half the yogurt. I was really worried because I need restriction to keep me on target. I am getting 400 calls a day but when I was drinking with my foods I felt I could have eaten way more. I made myself stop. And I had terrible head hunger day 4-7. I have to stop and really pay attention to my stomach to see if I am hungry. So far it’s always been a “no”
