  7. I had the sleeve done and only lost 30% of my excess body weight. Typically they like to see you at 60% of your excess body weight. They had me on wegovy and that didn’t work so I’m now scheduled for a bypass revision. For people in the same boat that lost some but not a lot the first time, how much did you lose after revision? I’m hoping because I have so much weight to lose that it will come off the way it should have the first time

    GERD/Gastritis with Gastric Sleeve

I had the sleeve in 2016 and never had Gerd until the surgery. Got bypass in September of 2022, and it feels so good not to have Gerd and take nothing, and I have reached my goal weight....Go for the bypass.. Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Creatine

From what I've read, creatine can have a positive impact on muscle mass by about 5%. But of course that varies greatly from person to person, being influenced by diet, workout routine, age, genetics, etc. Its considered relatively safe, though there is some concern about kidney function impact. Overall, there are very few thorough, peer reviewed, long term studies, so its really mostly anecdotal. Ultimately, having a solid, protein rich diet and lifting weights consistently is what is going to make the biggest difference. But if you're looking to supplement, talk to your doctor/dietitian before starting anything.
  10. So true. I knew what to do to lose the weight. It just stopped working. The WLS tool we have now is amazing in reversing whatever that hindrance was. Age, insulin resistance, meds, slowed metabolism??? Now I just want to use it as long as I can without breaking it.

    CPAP users

After you loose a considerable amount of weight you really should have another sleep study. I lost 70 lbs & still have to use one! I’ve been using one for 18 years 🤦‍♀️

    Anyone starting out around 225lbs?

I weighed 220 on the day of my surgery and am an inch shorter than you, so yes. I have struggled with feeling like I've ended up "too thin", but it's been due to a combination of complications from the surgery itself and some unrelated medical issues as well. My goal weight was 110, I was happy at 105, and ended up at a low of 91 when I was at my sickest a few months ago (a few pounds underweight for someone my height). Most people start to feel their restriction loosen at around the year-two year mark. I'm 22 months out and have only just started to feel like I can eat a bit more, and I'm simultaneously relieved and afraid because now it's up to me and my self-discipline to maintain.

Eating too much 6 days post op RNY

Thank you, everyone, for your messages. I revisited the post-op diet sheets provided by my dietitian and discovered that I'm actually supposed to eat even more than I currently am at this stage! Rather than focusing on calorie counting, the primary goal is to prevent deficiencies, and they are confident that long-term weight loss will naturally occur. Yesterday, I made a mistake by eating too quickly and consuming too much food (including 4 oz yogurt, 2 small toasts (see attached pic), 1 egg, and 3 oz pureed salmon and broccoli). As a result, I experienced terrible abdominal cramps before bedtime. Today, I'm going back to a diet of liquids and yogurts only. Your mention of "staples rupture" did give me a little scare, but I appreciate the information. Regarding water intake, I can manage to drink water, but swallowing is painful and creates uncomfortable air bubbles inside. So, I reckon I'm drinking around 500ml to 1 liter a day. Thank you all for your support and understanding during this post-op phase. Your encouragement means a lot to me as I work towards a smooth recovery.

Eating too much 6 days post op RNY

I echo the advice to go back to your surgeon for guidance & if you haven’t got one, find a dietician/nutritionalist with experience supporting wls patients. There are differences in plans, your very quick cycle through the return to eating stages as an example. But we ourselves are very different & consequently have different needs. For example I’m shorter, probably older, likely had a different weight loss/gain history, had no comorbidities before surgery & aren’t very active. I wasn’t given calorie goals only portion size: 1/4 - 1/3 cup from purée slowly increasing to about a cup at goal which was 6 months. I remember for months it would take me three days to eat two scrambled eggs. I could eat one egg at 6 months - just the egg nothing else I didn’t have to track calories but I know I was barely consuming 300 in around the soft food stage & was barely eating 900 calories at 6 months. My plan did not allow for any rice, pasta or bread at any stage while losing. Beat advice is to go slowly & be more tentative with your food choices while you are healing (& it does take a few weeks). The staged return to eating we work through is to protect & not strain your healing tummy & support your recovery. Remember all those staples & sutures holding your tummy & digestive system together & all the nerves that have been cut too. All the best with your recovery & weight loss.

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

Hi Gloria🤗 Breath Hun... All these feelings you're in battle with right now, are normal. I've battled my weight pretty much most of my life as well and I'm 57. It's not like you won't be able to eat things you love again. Sure it's going to be awhile... And our stages of recovery will feel slow.. But... Hang in there. One day at a time. One step at a time. One success at a time. Being healthy is key. Obese people loose out on so much life. Weigh out the good and the bad... And decide for yourself who you are doing this for and why you're doing it. What your goals are. Feeling great... Having energy... Living longer... Avoiding illnesses and diseases like cancer.. And perhaps setting examples for others... Your children( if you have). You've come this far for a reason... And you've worked so hard!!! I have faith in you🙏💜
  17. Day 4 post-op. I'm more sore than expected, especially from my upper right quadrant (abdomen). I did have a liver biopsy so I wonder if that is adding to it. I had the gastric bypass. I also have HORRIBLE hives on abdomen because I'm allergic to the scrub, benzoin...you name it. That alone is miserable. I gained 9 lbs (nine!) immediately after surgery. I'm sure it's from all the IV fluids. But I've lost most of that. Also, I am required to give myself injections in my belly for 2 weeks to decrease the risk of blood clots. Continuing another 2 weeks of clear liquid diet w/protein drinks; I'm ready to advance this diet, that's for sure. All in all, I'm glad I did this and the surgery is behind me. Anyone else experience right upper quadrant pain or discomfort? How long did it last?

    Did I eat too much?

Hi summerseeker, isnt restriction what we’re aiming for? My Dr basically said (and I heard this from a 2nd one I considered as well) that you want the most restricted from the outset and the goal is to lose as much weight as you possibly can in the first 6-12 mos bc weight loss wanes or stops after that. And I did lookup some dieticians in Huntsville that I am planning to try to go see if I can get an appointment Ty
  19. I had the sleeve in June 2018. My weight on surgery day was 242. I got down to 169 and not a pound less. I’m 5’4”. I never got rid of the GERD, which I had before the sleeve. In hind sight, I wish I had the bypass and not the sleeve initially. I a, scheduled to have a revision to bypass on 8/11. I am also scared …. But I am so tired of the extreme GERD and the damage that it’s doing. I have had significant weight regain from my sleeve - gained ALL back. The regain is very depressing. It’s to the point that I avoid social situations and am just down on myself for the regain 24/7. Hindsight is a b!tch. I’m ready for the revision and know that I will feel better without the GERD. Second chances aren’t to be taken lightly and this is mine.

I'm on day four, too. Starting to feel very tired Unsure of any weight loss. This is tough!
  21. Most of my adult life I maintained my weight at 117 pounds with exception of two periods lasting a couple of years that I packed on extra weight. With dedication and vigilance, I was always able to lose the excess.....until "The Great Weight Gain of 2012". None of my previous successful weight loss tactics were working and when I hit the 10 year mark of struggling to lose the extra weight; as well as, growing health issues from the added weight, I accepted the fact that i now was unable to fight this battle alone. I chose my goal weight of 112 in anticipation of the common regain from the lowest weight acheived to allow myself a five pound alarm system....in hopes of never seeing the scales above 117 again.

Thank you. You'll get there. I know there are different factors on how and how much weight we lose.

    Did I eat too much?

@PennyinAL I highly suggest you hire a nutritionist that specializes in bariatric care. You can find someone who will do telehealth appointments and you can see if you can find someone who takes your insurance! At least a few sessions to get a much better diet plan structured. 500 calories seems too low once you are out of the liquid phase. The surgery (in my understanding) resets your metabolism so you don't want to crash it with going too low on your calories. What used to apply for you for weight loss pre surgery may not apply post surgery because of the change in hormones. You really want professional guidance on this, everyone here varies in their macros because there is no standardization in the field at the moment.

    Did I eat too much?

Does everyone get a "nutritionist" with their surgery? I'm in a small town in Alabama, my surgeon doesn't have one on staff that I am aware of. He has a nurse that gives you the "plan" which is a pretty basic low carb plan where they want you to eat less than 4 oz, give you a little 4 oz measuring cup, say protein first, then veg then carb if allowed after you have eaten your protein but basically tell you that no carbs are allowed i,e., no cereals or grains. When I asked the dr about it, he said that since I was familiar with whole grains I was probably allowed those later on as most of his patients don't understand the more complicated diets. I noticed that most surgeons in the larger cities have nutritionists on staff. When I went to the only one at our local hospital a few years ago for a "class" about diabetes, she and I didn't exactly get on. I'm concerned that the plan isn't really a great plan, gives me no guidance on amount of carbs allowed per day, I know mine should be low. I also know that my body refuses to give up a pound unless I drop below 700 calories in a day. My goal is less than 500 calories per day. I'm seeing different amounts for the required protein amounts, some say as low as 45-50 and I see some suggesting as high as 80-120 which seems like a LOT of protein and calories to reach that amount. And can someone tell me where you found your suggested goal weight? Again, seems all the charts are different. I'm 5'9" larger frame 233 lb. I'm aiming for around 145-150? not sure if that is a good goal? I'm having the lap band removed and replaced with a gastric bypass on 08/01/23 so Tuesday! Hopeful but a bit worried in a small town here.
