  1. Marie...WELCOME! Your story sounds JUST LIKE MINE!! I was so sick for the first 12 days I was sure I'd made the biggest mistake of my life...begged God to help me or kill me...LOL My band was placed July 31...I'm down 20. Feeling great. And yep, we all still have 'those' days when we can't seem to find what satisfies...but I'm proud to say I have had few of those...really getting the hang of what my body is telling me...and excited to know it will work (HAS worked!) and will keep moving in the right direction. We are a small group - only about 5 of us who post regularly...but please post as often as you feel the need...someone will reply pretty quick. We have found a great source of encouragment here and its actually been FUN to share this walk w/ others who're in the same time-frame. That's really helpful, I think... I'll be SO excited to see 34 lbs off...YIPPEE FOR YOU!! We Celebrate with you. What are some of your NON-SCALE VICTORIES? (NSVs) ?? I love hearing about the changes we are each seeing in our bodies - besides the scale. Sometimes, FOR ME AT LEAST, the scale is really not my friend. i keep watching for those other tell-tale signs....this evening, for example, I noticed I can actually see my wrist bone!! LOL It truly took me by surprise. And when I lie down, I can feel my sternum!! Sounds goofy, I know, but there's been so much padding there for so long, I was afraid I actually had some kind of growth! LOL Silly me...But, IT MATTERS!! This is a great group, Marie...please jump in often...we'll try to keep you on the right path - accountability and encouragement! WE CAN DO THIS!! Once and for all!! Blessings! --Kim
  2. Marie!! YOU ARE A ROCK STAR!! So so so awesome, Lady! We are ALL proud of you - certainly almost as much as you are of yourself, and as your family is!! That is just amazing, and SO INSPIRING! Keep up the hard work...clearly its paying BIG dividends for you! As for me...I had that "withdrawal" adjustment a few weeks ago, and boy can I tell. Its eased up my eating issues, but now I fear I am over-doing it, and the scale is up a couple pounds! EEK!!! I've had a TERRIBLE craving (and have given in!) to those "sugar wafer" cookies...Yesterday I ate AN ENTIRE PACKAGE!! Today, I walked right past then in the store...and there are no more in the house! I am not really eating well, generally, so I've excused this behavior...but I'm getting a grip!! My anniversary will be the 31st..I was hoping to be down 50 - but I'm going to be lucky to get in for my surgeon visit and have held steady at 44...I will have an "esophagram" where they will watch to see how things move thru the stoma and whether the band is still where it belongs. I was "iffy" on that one when I was having so many problems...but since he removed a smidge of Fluid, and I am eating fine now, THANKFULLY it would seem all is well...except for MY CHOICES. I do notice lots of NSVs..my rings roll around my finger and are close to being down-right too big (not there
  3. Linda...I feel yer pain!! I've lost only 16 - and that's including the 5 I lost on the pre-op liquid diet!! I have been feeling hungry all day long, then when supper comes, I'm ravenous and want to eat everything in sight. My DR removed about 2cc of Fluid about 3 weeks ago, when I was so so sick. So, I really have had NO restriction, either. And that's been very noticeable. I do fine during the day because I'm working in another part of my home, away from my kitchen. AND my hubby works from home, too, and I'd hate myself if he knew I was "cheating" - esp after what this is going to cost us. (the hosp bill was just under $30,000!!! Still don't know what our portion is after ins. pays theirs - but YIKES)...so considering the price ($$ and emotional), I'm really not willing to be dumb and sabotage this for myself. BUT, that's not to say I don't have my moments - like today ... bought a bag of Baked Lay's...and ate a bunch on the drive home. I did get a fill yesterday...but today I'm not noticing any significant change. Still feeling hungry and those potato chips went down just fine. BUT I AM DONE. NOW, you've GOT to look for those NSVs (non-scale victories!)...I KNOW there are at least a couple, right??? For me, its my rings fitting loose enough to roll around my finger. My watch fitting loosely around my wrist. My pants getting a little baggy in the butt. A friend noticing my face looks slimmer (tho I really don't see that). ARE YOU WALKING?? Lucy asked the question...so, are you?? I have been, and I know that's helping w/ the NSVs...even tho the scale is not really moving, moving my butt IS causing other good things to happen. Do I like walking? Not really. I'd rather sit on the couch...but I know this is in MY best interest, and I'm finally realizing that "I" have to do this for "me"... tho, honestly, I'm doing it for my family, too. Don't give up on yourself or your dream to get that 40+ lbs off by November. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE - of how great you'll feel when you can trek through Disney without feeling like you're gonna die...of being able to say NO to the crappy food that's in front of your face all day long...of being able to ride a ride you've always wanted to...of not feeling embarrassed or ashamed of yourself (okay, maybe that's just me!?)... Remember, THIS IS SIMPLY A TOOL...you are still the one who controls what goes down the hatch. Choices Choices Choices. And yes, its hard and yes it makes me mad, too, some days...but you are worth it!! Now, get out and take a walk sometime today. This does not have to be a 5K or a 1/2 marathon...Just make it 15 mins. That's 7.5 mins one way and back. Do that for the rest of this week, then next week, make it 10mins one way then back - for the whole week. For me, its daunting to think I "have" to go 30 mins. The exercise girl at my clinic says you can do three 10-min bursts, throughout the day. ITS BETTER THAN NOTHING, and I can truly promise that you'll start seeing the changes. It'll tighten your butt (which makes your pants looser!! - then you'll have to buy a smaller size because who wants a baggy butt??), and your legs (then you can wear a shorter skirt/dress!)...oh gosh, there are so many good things about it!! So, FOCUS on your "whys" - so I can get off the floor w/o help (or a wench), so I can get up off the beach w/o people rolling their eyes, so I can cross my legs w/o having to hook a foot around something to keep it there!, so I can get my rings re-sized - smaller! -, so I can sleep on my side w/o a limb falling asleep, so I can make love to my husband with the lights on!, so I can SEE my feet when I look down, so I can move my bra hooks over one row, so I can begin to see the definition of my jaw line - and not just a jowl, so I can hold my head up higher when I'm at a school function w/ my children....those are just a few of mine. Maybe yours are the same - and maybe you have a few more or something different. FOCUS ON YOUR WHYs. (I'm preaching to myself here, too!!)...WRITE THEM DOWN! We can do this, ladies. We've been given such a wonderful tool...we'd be crazy not to do EVERYTHING in "OUR" power to maximize its benefits and helps. Until the pain of remaining the same becomes greater than the pain of change, you will remain the same. THIS IS NOTHING compared to the pain we've all felt when we've been at our heaviest....yes??? Yes. I have hated myself for long enough. That's my sermon for the day...and maybe it was just what "I" needed to hear from myself. So, if I've stepped on some toes, I'm sorry. BUT, if it resonates w/ you - any of you - then hold your head up and move forward. You cannot change yesterday, but you can move forward today and affect tomorrow!! Blessings! Kim So make today a NEW DAY. A NEW ATTITUDE.

Happy New Year Everyone!! And what a great start for the Junebies!!!! Mary --CONGRATS!! on reaching your goal. Barb4 --let us know how this new fill does for you. Hopefully you will not have anymore problems since your polyps were removed. Barb12 --take it easy with the back. I hope you get to feeling better soon. Ouch!! I know that pain all to well. Julie --Congrats on all the success that you have had with your band thus far! You will reach your goal. Regina --so sorry to hear that you came back home with a cold. I hope that you feel better soon. I had another NSV yesterday. I jogged 1.5 miles on the treadmill without stopping. Granted, I am moving at turtle pace (4 MPH) but I was moving. My goal is to get up to 3 miles at this pace feeling comfortable and non-challenged then I will work on increasing the pace. Although I walk at 3.5 to 4 MPH when on the treadmill, this jogging thing felt like a much better workout (I measured by the amount of sweat). I think I should stick to treadmill workouts for awhile because my ankle did not bother me as much as when I am outdoors (which I love to be). I am still having some trouble with uneven grounds. That will just take some time. Happy New Year and Happy Loosing!! Melissa Lea

congrats on the nsv's! 50 lbs, onederland, twoterville! sorry i have been busy and had to read pages of postings to get up to date...sorry about dr. sanchez, what a loss the pix posted are great! i really need to do that soon. i can really relate to the problems eating!!! i was pb's a few times a week for almost a month. i went to the dr. yesterday for my 4 month check up and got yelled at! he said if it happens again to call cuz he doesn't want me to hurt myself. so he wanted to find out why and filled my 4 cc band to 1.5cc's. after i chugged the water...up it came!!!twice!!! then he took out .25cc's and up it came again! now i am just over 1 cc a smidge over where i was before we started. so he said to eat slowly and only protein just to jump start my metabolism so i can lose more weight. he also reminded me that our tummies are the size of a thumb and i am NOT!!!! to eat more than 1/4 cup per meal. we'll see! is everyone ready for the holiday season? i am soo excited...only 2 weeks left! dez

Hey there everyone! Glad to hear from some of you that have been out of touch for a bit of time. Leila and Cindy, you look awesome!! Keep up the great work I had a NSV this weekend. I went shopping for some Fall clothes for work. I was able to get in a size 14 pant without effort. However, they are still too tight in the butt and croch, but they buttoned and zipped with no effort. I bought size 16's for the last season!!! I got this little tidbit in my email. As we are all struggling with our own food demons, I thought this might give some of you a little chuckle like it did me. Enjoy! Melissa Lea A good piece of chocolate has about 200 calories. As I enjoy two servings per night, and a few more on weekends, I consume 3,500 calories of chocolate in a week, which equals one pound of weight per week. Therefore... In the last 3 1/2 years, I have had a chocolate caloric intake of about 180 pounds. I weigh only 165 pounds, so without chocolate, I would have wasted away to nothing about three months ago! I owe my life to chocolate!

Laura - Glad to hear you got some relief. Melissa Are you at 3.0 or above? I was shocked when they put in .4 to make it 3.0 and then wanted to go another .4 because barium went so fast. I declined and it's a good thing. Water went down ok at center, but my one sip of liquid protein since being home seems to be taking it's time. All I can say is--yeah! I want restriction and I can handle liquids and mushies for as long as necessary I'm off to lah lah land until I begin teaching this afternoon. One more NSV. I stayed in Onderland even at the Surgi Center with all my clothes on. I was 198.6. My scale showed 199.5 fully clothed right before I walked out the door.

You guys are all so inspiring. It makes me sorry I haven't visited our Junebie site more often. I do tend to wallow in my own stuff too much. I, too am looking for that sweet spot. I've had two fills, and I can still certainly eat too much and chew less than I should be and get away with it. Getting a fill is a little difficult. I had to wait 6 weeks for an appointment this time, which was last Thursday, however, we had a rare and unusual snow storm that made getting there almost impossible. I had to go to the mainland for it and even the ferry I should of been on was shut down for wind. The good thing is, they told me to just come over next Thurs. and they'll try and fit me in when I get there. Not another 6 week wait. I have been very discouraged because after my initial loss, I've been at somewhat of a standstill for a long time. If I'm able to eat more, I do. I feel like I need some drastic torturous behaviour modification to stop. Hook me up to electrodes or something. What's keeping me from total despair, however is that I'm still getting small nsv's like fitting into something I haven't worn for a long time, or my favourite, the steering wheel no longer rubbing on my belly. Thank you all for being here, you're great.

Thanks for the advice Barbara. I have my six month appointment coming up in about 2.5 weeks. I will definitely address it with my doc. Til then I'm gonna eat early, stay away from the offenders and see what happens! Congrats on getting rid of the pants. I haven't done that yet. I'm waiting for the day I'm walking down the hall at work and my pants just fall off. Now THAT's a wacky NSV!

    January Bandsters???

Dee - I think the Western Caribbean is my favorite. We are going to the Western Caribbean too in August. My DH likes Carnival better than Royal, mainly he likes all the midnight buffet Carnival has - he never gains weight, so he eats all the time! So, we're going on Carnival's Conquest which was built in 2005, so its pretty new. I hear it is a gorgeous ship and huge. I been on Royal about 3 times, and Norweigan twice, I like all cruises, no matter what line. LOL. I have never stepped foot in the gym while on a cruise, but I plan to this year! So hopefully I won't gain while on the cruise - this will be a first for me. Amelia40 - CONGRATS on your NSV! When others can tell, it is so rewarding, especially when they tell you how good you look. Have a good day everyone!

    NSV for a newbie WOOHOO!

One NSV I have had, keeping with the car theme........... I hate pumping gas so much. I am very lucky that my hubby usually will do it for me. But for those times when he isn't around and I have to do it I have to get out of the car to reach the release for gas door. Well the other day my daughter who recently got her permit offered to fill my tank for me. She went around towards the pump and instead of asking her to hit the release for the gas tank I just reached down and did it. Afterwards I stopped and said to myself, "I just was able to reach down and release my gas tank!!" I know it is a simple thing but to me it was huge!! It has only been 4 weeks since my surgery and I have had a ton of these moments. I can't wait to see what other NSV's I have along the way as I lose more weight!!

Hoooray for Julie and welcome back. Congrats on losing what someone once said was equivalent to her manicurist. Eight bowling balls? Lucy, a big congrats on being "incognito" weight wise. You know, that could come in handy if you had a mischievious soul. Today has been a better day for me rule wise and I have to admit I've felt better and had more control. (most of the time) Timing of liquids is a better help than I thought. It's those *&%#@! cashews that called me out between lessons. Not much damage done. I thought about throwing them away, but I want to build some willpower into this new life of mine. Why oh why didn't I remember to drink some water or even a V8? Today would have been a nice light day if it weren't for those buggars. NSV - I had jury duty today and we had assigned seats. The people I sat between actually smiled a welcoming smile as I sat down. No scrunched shoulders today!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

    post op for December 11th

People can be cruel, even our on families. You must dig deep & go for what you know. My family doesn't know, only my husband so they eat whatever, whenever & wherever but I've grown accustomed to it. I've sorted all my life & I do recall early on it was hard but I conquered it. Good luck & perhaps they could be more considerate. As for this weight journey GET ER DONE! Me myself slow going but seeing progress. Already getting NSVs. Although the scale can no longer claim 22 POUNDS on my behalf! Lol I just realized that. BMI 37.4 & missing inches like crazy. And u can an actually see the difference in before & now pics. I am so motivated to be successful! I am looking forward to my after pic! APerfect10Again A.K.A. CJ May the good Lord bless you all! Lucky 13! 2013 is MY year!

Glad to see that everyone is finding the new location. I have no idea why they moved us. I guess they are just trying to clean up the boards. Barb12 --so sorry to hear about your loss of your friend. By the way --how is your back feeling from your injury? Barb4 --I hope that your fill goes well next week and that the heartburn is just a little stump in the process and will go away. Let us know how you are doing. Mary --how is your training for your half marathon going? I read an article in Runners magazine that I think has changed the way I jog. It was speceific to new runners and said that one of the major mistakes we make is to have a stride that is too wide (or long). I have since shortened my stried and it has allowed me to get into a great rhythm without feeling strain on my musles. Just wanted to share that with you. Let us know how your training is going. I had a NSV this morning. I jogged 3.5 miles. The last half mile took a bit of a stretch for me but I made it!!! Still at turtles pace but that will improve with time. I also had a scale victory ---I am at an all time new low of 191 pounds. 2 pounds and I will be in the 180s. I haven't seen the 180s in probably 7 years. I hope to reach that goal by the end of this week. I hope everyone is doing great. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Melissa Lea

MsPris - is your doctor going to do the surgery for free since she injuried you... I would be real pissed off - has she done anything to make this up to you?? Jackie - Thanks for the fyi on the bugg - so if i burn 2500 c a day and only eat 1000 - thats 1500 thats truely getting burned so that would equate to almost a 3 lbs loss in 6 days. Yes I would like to see biggest lossers #'s too - I would DIE if i had to work out 5-6 hrs a day at the intensety that they seem to - but this is all t.v. too - those guys (producers whomever - cut that stuff up so much to make you go wow) Brandy Congrats on the 4lbs Ok Sunny - NO MORE ICE CREAM !!!! Appleblossom- I don't count point - I count calories and Protein only - i just use the WW balance food groups way of eating I also weight & measure my food 90% of the time - veggies i don't worry about...- I am not into this low carb stuff - I gotta have a little carbs - rice - potatoes - Pasta - bread - can do whole grain etc - but gotta have those carbs - I just limit myself - I only did the point system once on line - I think i would get like 29 pts a day for the weight i am right now (215) - Truely - I take a litte from WW - Dr OZ - Bob Green - really anything on weight loss issues and digest it and keep what i want and get rid of the rest - just like everything else "EVERYONE IS AN EXPERT" Ssankofa - My exercise buddy Great on the walking - i know how those periods are - back when i had mine the first 3 days i bled to death.. Glad those days are gone for me. I walked 3.5 miles in 1 hr today... Linda - You are such a wonderful person for all the community work you do.. How's the mentoring of that girl?? How's the spanish going? Congrats on the NSV (and yes it was) that's pretty cool and nice that DH asked you - don't know if he gives you props often - but that was one imho -------------------------------------------------------------- Good Morning Gang I got my packing done last night - do you know that this whole liquid crap in a QUART size bag - OMG - I don't know how the expect a WOMAN to get all her makeup (face mascara lipsticks eyeliner)- hairspray - gel - lotions - wrinkle creams - eye cream - deodorant - toothpaste - shampoo - perfume all in that little bag. (Yes gang I am a makeup junkie - beauty junkie) Yes I know that this rule is only for carryon - but I am just going for the weekend have a small bad no need to check - this is just a dumb rule imho.. My quart bag is stuffed - I hope they don't make me throw stuff away.. Well, plan on going to the gym in a bit - since I won't get to exercise tomorrow - but I am not as addicted to it as our darling Karri - I am sorta tired this morning - went to bed around 11:30 last nite up at 6 so hopefully this coffee kicks in. Sorta getting nervous about this weekend - I really don't know anyone and we have a whole group who knows each other coming from KS - I will do fine I know it - but you guys would never ever believe this I am a little on the shy side.. I know that I don't come across that way - but that's my cover up - I play like I am the confident women - but really inside I am a 2 yr old.. Also here is another interesting fact about me that you wouldn't know - I am an introvert - yes me - after all this play like a grown up - I am going to be wiped out.. And again - it's the whole thing about still being a fat chick in my head - But I will plug forward and over come these issues - I do practice what I preach - Fake it til you Make it :w00t: Well - it's 7 need to get my butt in gear - well maybe another cup of coffee - I have to leave here around 10:30 -11 to get to airport by 11:30 - plane leaves at 1 - this whole thing about getting to airport to sit around for 2 hrs - again stupid... P S airport isn't big and this time of yr shouldn't be busy - but this was the first place that made me take my thong sandals off - ya right like I had a bomb in them OMG I am turning the news off - stock market tumbles - gas $7 - this is the reason that everything is such a mess - if the news would report positive stuff then maybe things would be at least a little more positive and not so negative ... OK - going to get dressed - will cbl:tongue: If I don't - I love you all - will miss you guys (will go thru withdrawls 2 day without lbt)

I happened to be flying back from Vegas on the weekend that all the liquid restrictions went into place. My flight left around 8:30 am, and I had to get to the airport by 4:00 am just to make sure that I could get through security. That was the last time that I have flown but it was adventuresome! By the time I got through security I only had to wait for my flight for less than an hour! Congrats Janet on the HUGE compliment. That will be lots of fun for you and they couldn't have picked a better person. Another NSV! My size 10 jeans are too big! I haven't tried any size 8 jeans yet. I have a couple pair of size 8 dress pants but I seem to be able to wear smaller dress pants than jeans. I might go to the thrift store tomorrow and see if anything fits. It is 50% on Fridays so that is when I go. I refuse to buy many new clothes before PS because they figure I will go down 1 size for certain possibly 2. The doc asked me if I would faint if I was able to put on size 4s after surgery. I said probably...right after I wore them inside out and posted the picture on a bulletin board! Well off to eat dinner. We are having homemade LF coleslaw and crabcakes. MMMMM good!

Hello my fellow bandsters. It is Sunday night about 11:30pm here. I am bushed but wanted to get on for a ew minutes and check in. I see everyone seems to be doing so well. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Auntie Phil- Sounds like you are staying busy with the grandkids. The game sounded likes lots of fun!! That was a perk huh? Lynette- doesn't it feel great when the pants start getting lose? Congrats!! Dini- I am sorry I missed your post before you left. Hope you have a wonderful time Kathybad- your family is beautiful. You are so blessed. Congrats on the court date!!!!! Dmjet- how is school going? My kids started last Wednesday and I am loving it. Everyone else congrats on all your progress!!! Well we had the 16th birthday party yesterday. I was so tired today that I did next to nothing. Folded a load of laundry and put it away and everyone ate leftovers. The party was a great success and my daughter had a wonderful time. Couldn't have asked for a better day. It was 74 degree's with slight humidity but it wasnt uncomfortable. REALLY NICE. My aunt and uncle came on their motorcycle that they just bought a trike package to put on the back. I got daring and asked them if I could drive it joking. They said 'yeah try it out you will love it.' I thought about it and I thought 'why not (besides the fact I don't have a license...LOL) Asked my DH to ride behind me and he asked 'are you serious' I said 'yeah lets go' We got on and he told me how to shift. I said ok and we took off. LOL I did fine and it was sooooo easy. I said to everyone when I got back 'if you can drive a stick shift car you can drive a motorcycle. LOL I don't kow if you all remember back to another post that I had made talking about how I am so afraid to ride behind my DH the last couple of years because I was afraid my weight would make his bike 'bottom out' LOL. Yesterday was a major NSV for me because I just figured I was gonna try it because I have lost some weight and damn it I have seen bigger people than me riding!!!! DH came in the house this afternoon and asked me to go for a bike ride with him. I think I may have started something. LOL I am finally off of my platea this past week.:whoo: I have lost 6 lbs this past week :biggrin1:(knock on wood. I hope it keeps up). Hope I haven't jinxed myself by saying (typing) it out loud. Well I am off to bed. Have lots to do tomorrow before going to work. Good 'nite all!!!

I stayed home. Went to school this morning to make copies, but then came back home. We are supposed to be getting a new couch delivered in less than an hour so then I can curl up on the couch with my box of tissues and watch daytime tv! I actually have a lot of work to do, but I am going to veg until about noon and then get busy. Besides I can't think anyways. Yeah it always makes me angry whenever anyone even HINTS that WLS is the easy way out. The fact that there are so many people who are NOT successful with WLS should clearly show that this is not easy. Of course anyone who says anything about WLS and being easy gets a piece of my mind... and not the pretty part either. Well I am going to try and eat something. My fill is really loosening up. I don't know if it will be to the point that I have to go back in the end of March and get a fill (VERY SMALL ONE!) or if I will be just fine here. My superbowl party was fun yesterday. I have realized though that when food is just sitting out I end up eating more than I should. At home, the food is always in the kitchen. Thankfully we do not have an open floor plan so I can't see the fridge or the microwave or any of the food, so I don't have a problem with grazing. I mean I did really well eating wise and made good choices (the people hosting new I had surgery and made sure to have high protein choices for me!). I just happened to notice that I am more likely to graze when I see the food. One person did bring this ENORMOUS chocolate cake and I did have a piece of it and frankly I didn't think it was to die for. Now prior to these changes I would have done anything to have another piece, but now I am happy just having that half of a sliver (and not the part with the frosting HUGE NSV for me!). I am a huge frosting girl. For the first birthday that I had after my dad and I started talking again we celebrated together since is is shortly after mine. Instead of the cake, we both just ate the tubs of frosting. I know that had to lead to a few pounds that I am working off now! Okay well I need to move our old love seat out of the way so I will check in later.

Good Morning Ladies!!!! Hope you all had a great night sleep. I'm tired this morning but it's probably nothing a nice brisk walk wouldn't cure. Going to wait until little quack is finished with breakfast and then head out for a bit. Peaches, I'm so sorry about your mom. I know all the stuff about her having a long life and all doesn't help the frustration and the worry. I'm thinking of you and wishing you all the best. I may have missed it, but what is the prognosis? I know she is having a hard time getting around because of the blockages but that's all I remember you telling us. Karri, I'm thinking of you. I'll keep you in my thoughts all day. Can't wait until Janet tells us you're out of surgery and doing fine. Kari, I am still working on the site so there may be times when it's crazy and the pics aren't there. I'm getting ready to do a lapband page and we'll see what I decide to put on there. Who knows how adventurous I'll get. I hope you enjoyed the grandbabies, even though they can be snippy sometimes they will remember these times forever. I can't imagine anyone not noticing your weight loss so after the parade you will be flying high! I'm glad you are feeling great enough to get out and go this year. What an amazing nsv. Feel great about that! Okay....gotta run. Busy day planned. I'll talk to you all later.
