    Dumping

Thanks again!!! I've done all that from one time to another!!! I'm sure it'll be months before I can figure out what's best for me again! I always, never realized, that they do leave a little bit of the stomach, etc when they do a bypass. Whats a gastric bypass in regards to RNY .... I just know revision. My old friend, had sleeve about 2 years or so after me, she used to vomit all the time after a meal ... She learned new habits but she claimed the surgeon said her stomach was flipping .... we had a falling out, long story - but she in the process of us not speaking, which we've made up since, due to our boys getting married this year, figured it was best to put things aside for them and grandchildren being at each others weddings, as best men and their kids, etc... parties... Anyways - so she had a bypass I was told, she won't say she did - she denies it but her son told my son and FDIL. Why is it a secret is beyond me.. but she drinks like a fish on vacation, we see her on vacation every year and occasions - she does eat normally, so her bypass must have worked
  3. So I'm 3 years post-op. I got the sleeve and I'm looking into getting the bypass. I have been busting my butt working out, eating right up until the last few months because I started to give up hope. Anyhow, I have Thyroid issues that were finally diagnosed as hypo after a year and I'm struggling to lose more. I lost a total of 80lbs and it's slowly going up and down. I had acid reflux here and there but didn't think it was due to the sleeve the longest time. smh. Well, now I'm in the process of getting approved by my insurance. I should know my requirements this week. Has anyone got a sleeve to bypass revision done? If so can you share your stories, whether it was a success or fail, wins, and complications. What to expect. Anything you can share. HW - 283 LW - 208 CW - 230 GW - 160 Sleeve did on 05/26/2017
  4. At 10+ years post op I'm also battling ups and downs. My story is different from yours but the bottom line is getting rid of the excess weight. Have you considered options besides revision surgery? I'm likely covered for revision despite relatively low regain due to other health issues. You may improve your chances of approval by focusing on co morbidities caused by regain. A revision would be successful, but until I live differently I may face the same situation in another 10 years. My BEHAVIOR caused my weight gain. INTERMITTENT FASTING is helping me control this need to be full. I'm training my body and brain to understand that feeling hunger is not the same as starvation. It is helping me to drop the pounds and revise my attitude towards food. Jason Fung (search YouTube and online) and others have been my guides. My desire to be full is my eating disorder. Fasting helps me to focus on nutrition and understand when I need to eat vs when I want to eat. As an advocate of health at any size, my diet for life keeps me in good health. Periodically I tweak my program because of metabolism issues. When I stay with my program I maintainin. When I slip from my program the need to get full emerges. Diets to reset my pouch as someone already suggested work well for me. However, eventually I want to feel fullness again and I'm attempting to reset more and more often. This is why I'm working to become content with an empty belly and a well nourished body. I wish you successful weight loss and good health however you decide to accomplish your goals.

    Dumping

I use to sweat and get hot on a cup of coffee in the morning with sleeve. I decided to not drink it with this revision but I changed my mind and took a chance this morning and nothing happened. Go Figure lol
  6. What does this actually mean? I know with the sleeve, snacks were “slider foods”.  With the revision I’ve read dumping a lot.  Is that bowel changes or vomitting?  I would think diarrhea as you dont have a stomach like you did prior to the sleeve and the sleeve.  I will have to research more.  I would have to be out to dinner when the time comes and then have to run to the bathroom or be on vacation etc lol

I am a revision under goal weight, its okay. thank you
  8. So I was originally going to have an EGD w Bravo before the revision surgery but plans have since changed. I’m wondering how many or if anyone else had the EGD/hernia repair (possibly) done at the same time as the surgery. The reason my plans changed was because the hospital had a major screw up w my IV placement on the day I was supposed to get the EGD; the team had a very hard time finding my veins because they are so small. Yes, I drank water the day before but that did not help. They put the IV in thinking they found my vein but turns out they were wrong; I think the line moved or something because I could feel some of the anesthesia but not enough to knock me out in the operating room. Long story short the surgeon called it off; the team basically turned me into a pin cushion and my arm was swollen because more fluids got into the tissue. So to get to my question, anyone had the EGD at the same time of the revision? If so, how did it go?

  10. I am in Australia so my experience may not be valid for the USA or UK (if that is where you are). I had a failed ESG, I lost restriction and an endoscopy revealed that most of the sutures had come undone. I had revision to a (surgical) sleeve mid March. There seems to be some success with ESG (in that the sutures have held and there is no loss of restriction) but I think a lot of that is due to surgeon experience and technique. There is also a number of failures where the sutures have come undone whether due to non compliance by the patient, lack of surgeon experience/technique, some people with bouts of bad vomiting (which caused the sutures to loosen) and some for no known reason. While some people with a previoulsy very high BMI have had some success, If you have a BMI higher than 40, you would be better off with a surgical option in my personal opinion. My sleeve surgeon says he currently considers the ESG as a temporary measure for anyone who needs to lose weight quickly for a urgent operation or prior to a more permanent weight loss surgery so that the patient's health has improved enough for them to undertake a longer procedure. It seems that the medium to long term failure rate in Australia is higher than USA. If you are serious about getting the ESG some questions to ask in your consult: How many ESGs they have done, what is the complication rate, failure rate and success rate one and two years out, is there an ongoing support program afterward, if the ESG failures due to no fault of your own is there a nil cost fix (should you want it),
  11. Looking for a phone app that is good to remind you to drink, take your meds all different times of the day -- would like a free one that works well. I just got revised three days ago --- having issues with massive headaches but need to be on track with my meds
  12. I am sorry you are having all these difficulties. I would imagine your BMI would be too low for approval but I am not an insurance person or a Dr. You may not get the fullness you are looking for in a 2nd surgery. If you have not read what is being said you may want to go check out some of the revision threads out there. Have you tried the 5 day reset ? Its suppose to help shrink your pouch back somewhat and get you back on track like a pre op.

    Chewing gum?

Ha--that's funny that you should mention drinking through straws. When I got my lap band years ago they said NEVER drink through straws because you swallowed air. Well, after getting my revision I was having lots of trouble swallowing air drinking, so my PA asked me "Have you tried using a straw?" and I went "WHAAAAT??" She suggested trying a straw, and to my amazement the trouble IMMEDIATELY went away. I swallow less air using a straw then when I don't!

    June 2020 surgeries

Hello everyone, I hope you all are staying safe during these trying times. I'm scheduled for June 5th. I'm nervous because mine is a revision to bypass from sleeve. I'm going to Tijuana. Anybody want share if they're going there?
  15. Revision done and I’m home in bed. Day 2 here we go. I have such a headache and liquid Tylenol is making me nauseated 🤢 it’s so gross It’s the only thing they gave me to take besides nausea meds, and Prilosec. I do have oxys and may take that at night time, tonight. Unsure what to do about this headache. I might attempt Gatorade maybe it’s also caffeine withdrawal. help!!!!

    Hate bypass

21 years ago wow. How much has she regained in 2 years ? Well I will tell you had I had this revision due to weight gain I would be very upset right now. It is not at all like I thought it would be. I just had breakfast and ate a whole scrambled egg with parmesan cheese no problem. Has she talked to a surgeon ?
  17. Hi everyone- I'm new to BariatricPal. I had RNY Gastric Bypass in June 2008. Met goal weight of 118 lbs. by August 2009. Had my son in September 2011 so I gained 30 lbs. which I subsequently lost within 6 months of his birth. I am now approaching my 12 year surgiversary and I have crept up to 180 lbs. I am so mortified and disappointed in myself; and I understand it is also due to the lack of fullness after so long. I am going back to my original surgeon to discuss revision options. My question is, I have NJ Family Care / Horizon BCBS of NJ and there isn't much online as to whether they typically cover weight loss surgery revisions. I am so nervous because my insurance barely wanted to cover a root canal and this is obviously much more invasive. The other problem I have is chronic pain, as I had back surgery in 2013 following a car accident. The added weight has worsened all of my issues and I am dealing with horrible sciatica with the weight gain. I just wish I felt full. I do not drink, smoke, or do illicit drugs. I just would like to know if based on my circumstances if I can be approved by Medicaid for the revision. Thanks for reading and for any advice.

My male friend started at 500 lbs. and lost 100 with the sleeve. He has a serious eating disorder he has tried to get help for for years. When he stopped losing at 400 he got a revision to the bypass and has lost another 100 lbs. He really needed something where he could not binge like he used to. I think you should do it for the GERD and it's likely you may lose more depending on your habits.

I 100% agree with you. I miss my sleeve. I was on the way to getting esophageal cancer from GERD...Btw, I still have acid problems, just not as bad....so I had to get revised to the bypass. I hate it. I can't possibly understand how less stomach let's me eat more?? Idk, I feel like I am. I've only lost 20lbs in 2+ months also. So miserable and nauseous all of the time, don't get me started on toilet stuff....ugh. HATE THIS
  20. Hey meow! I decided on bypass just because I felt it would be more beneficial to me. I was also nervous about having some issues later on down the road with the sleeve and didn’t want to have to have a revision surgery. I am 27, 5’7” and My starting weight was 258. I had surgery on May 14th (2 weeks ago) and I feel great! And I’m already down 23 pounds! I have had some emotional days....but I’m still very happy with my decision ❤️
  21. Hello! I'm officially in the revision family! Everything went well and I arrived home earlier today. Your posts helped so much because from the time I was out of recovery, I walked every hallway that I could every 3 hours. It really helped with the pain and gas. Well, I'm seven pounds heavier than when I went in but...has to be fluid from the IV ' I only drank 30ml at a time! Just following up.

    vaping

Our bariatric center wont do WLS unless you are nicotine free for 3 months. They do urine tests 2 weeks before and the day of to make sure you are nicotine free or no surgery. I had been a smoker for 30+ years and quit because I wanted this more then smoking. Its really a win win . I quit by vaping with non nicotine vape . Then a year later I started back up. Then I quit again for my breast reduction ( same thing no breast reduction with nicotine in system}You would think that would be it but no I am relentless and started yet AGAIN. I quit for this revision ( yes this is the 3rd time in 3 years) and I will never go back. Its just too hard to keep doing to myself and I actually like being a non smoker !

Have you tried Dexilant ? That sleeve will give you restriction with all foods. That wont be the case with the bypass. ( at least not for me and others posting on this page) If you read through this thread there are a couple of ladies who have posted how much weight they have lost and how much harder it is . I am sure if your Dr. feels you need a revision you will lose the 30 lbs but something is telling me it will be harder to keep off if you are using the sleeves restriction to tell you when to stop eating. I am only a week in but that is what it is feeling like to me at this time. GL

    Hate bypass

I'm one year out of my VSG surgery. I have GERD really bad. NO meds have helped. I also feel like food gets stuck in my throat. My doc has set me up for an EGD. Depending on the results, he said we would probably revise my sleeve to a bypass. What is the success like? I have gained 30 lbs. back. I am so embarrassed. Will the bypass help me get more weight off??

I probably read over it, but why did you revise? I was a bandmember from 2009-2017 and lost about 89#. (232#-143#). Lost it due to a slip, due to a stomach flu. Was WLS free for 2.5 years and gained 30#. Day of sleeve 8/28/19 (tomorrow is 9 mths) 173#.... today 126#. I'm worried about regain with the sleeve. funny that i was never fearful of regain with the band. I had much better control with the band than with the sleeve. I've done great with the sleeve.... but i seen how people slowly increase their food and regain. Right now i'm still at the 2-3 bites and i'm full, but i'm hungry again sooner. With the band i was hardly ever hungry.
