  1. I am 4 weeks out and am wondering why I get hungry so soon after I eat. If I eat a yogurt, I will be full but within an hour or hour and half, I am hungry and my stomach is growling. Can anyone clue me in on this?

    3 Years Post-Op.... Failure...

You know what you need to do!! So get to it!! No more beating yourself up. It does no good to change the past. Get rid of the negative comments of "i'm a failure"......you'r not!!! (unless you say you are). Plug back into this site and start reading. You have a lot of work to do. You have probably forgot a lot of the stuff that makes you a sucessful bandster. Step 1- call your doctor and make an appointment he can check the band out ---but I'm sure its fine...its band new waiting for you to use it. Step 2-In the mean time start making those first few changes that every bandster needs to do *Protein first (at least 70g) *cut out the bad carbs----no more for now---you should try to break the adiction-----bad carbs are emoty calories and make you want more bad carbs. *stop drinking calories---no more soda or other high calorie drinks *start moving- just something!! start making new routines so that they can become new habbits Step 3 -Join www.myfirnesspal.com this is a great place to log ALL your food choices and exercise. you can add buddys to help you out along the way---feel free to add me same username:waitingpatiently. If accountability is an issue or if you want help making food choices....make your food journal open and others can see it. I have found that its great for finding healthy foods I didn't now were out there...like carbmaster yogurt. Step 4-Get excited!! You have made the decision that CAN change the rest of your life!! Attitude is everything!! If you are bound and deterimed that the band is not working or isn't for you....then you are right. If you are bound and determined to make this work regardless....you will. Step 5- If you are spiritual...then pray. I do. I find it has helped me the most. I promised my God that I would fix this if he would help me. Breaking a promise to my Savior will not happen-----that alone will hold me accountable. Breaking a promise to friends, family, husband.....isn't easy. but they have all broke one to me, so I no they won't mind. But my Savior.........he has never broke a promise.so I take just a few mins every morning to set my mind straight. What is really important in life. Step 6- find at least one person that will encourage you when you need it and hold you accountable when its neccesary. Good Luck!! If you ever need to talk....or you need a buddy. Just inbox me.
  3. Is there any good Proteins that you do like that your nutritionist has recommended? Clean out your cabinets of the bad stuff. I know if it's in my house I will eat it. If you make it harder to find, you won't bother. If you are constantly getting stuck, tell your doc - that is not normal. Go back to mushy stage.. try yogurts, cottage cheese, hummus, Soups, etc. I know fries were not tolerable for me the first time I was banded. Good luck and hang in there!

    My update

Hi all I am two weeks post op and am doing fantastically well. My scars have healed well and I saw the surgeon's nurse this morning who gave me the go ahead to go straight to mushies. Can't wait. Scrambled eggs for lunch! Yipee I have lost 9kg so far in the 4 weeks and am very happy with that. I know it will be a constant struggle from here on in but hey this is what I signed up for. I go back in a month for my first fill too. I found the liquids to be easy. I found a homemade chicken and sweetcorn Soup in Coles that I lived on for dinner in the last week. I also love the Up-and-Go liquid yogurt and the Sustagen easy to digest and it seemed to fill me as well. Of course normal yoghurt and smoothies were a treat. I already feel so much better than I did a month ago before I started Opti. That first week on it was such a struggle, but from then on it was all downhill and this journey so far has been so rewarding, I am going to make it continue. I hope those banded around the same time as me are doing just as well. Hugs

Preop Diet Week 1 in the books

a tiny portion occasionally, no more than a few bites, no more than 1 or 2 times a month, won't kill you, but be prepared for cravings. Maybe you could recreate some of your favorite sweets. I make cannoli cream, flourless protein pancakes, pizza, protein cookies & muffins. Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt is amazing and comes in great flavors. Quest bars have many great flavors, and you can also cook with them. The chocolate chip one, bakes up into yummy cookies. Just cut one up, bake a t 350, watch closely as it only take a few minutes.

    Constipation

This is going around.......I stir 2 teaspoons of benefiber in my yogurt with some chia seeds and that helps........getting in all your water helps also......dairy is binding, so if you're taking in a lot of dairy or whey protein, you may want to change it up. Miralax is also great.......tasteless, mixes in with any hot/cold liquid.......seems to take about 12-24 hours to work....gentle..........dr says you can take it everyday and it won't cause health problems......even 1/2 a serving a day...........Hope this helps.

    Constipation

Ducolax was a life saver for me for the first month and laxatives scare me. Once I was allowed regular food, I started eating All Bran Buds cereal with my Greek yogurt. When I eat it daily, I have few if any problems. Also the fake sweetener in those sugar-free Ice Breakers sours get me going. A couple of those get my intestines churning. You may discover foods that do that have that effect on you as you reintroduce foods.
  10. I wish I was on the Atkins induction phase! Oh, to be able to chew something!!! Liquids for 2 weeks is already driving me crazy. Basically everything is sweet except for chicken broth. It's all yogurt, frozen yogurt, Jello, pudding, popsicles, etc. Broth is the only real soup unless I want to strain it. I don't care for tomato, tried it today but couldn't even get half a bowl down. Guess if I get hungry enough it may start to look better. I am determined to stick to the diet though and not cheat. Anyone else doing actual liquids? What about cheese soup? Campbells makes a cheddar cheese soup. I'm wondering if I can mix some of that with the tomato or broth to add some flavor.
  11. Im hoping some seasoned sleevers can help me. I feel badly posting this when I read some of the difficulties people are having. I'm a little over a week post op- started purée today and am having no issues. With anything. I can see where getting your fluids in can be tough in the beginning balancing food and hydration, but I ate just about a little less than measured for each: 1/4 cup egg at Breakfast, 1/4 cup refried Beans at lunch and 1/4 cup Greek yogurt and chicken purée. I still have to have one Protein shake. I didn't feel too uncomfortable, it didn't hurt and then I worried that my sleeve isn't working. I know this is dumb because I shouldn't have to have issues ( and don't want them!!) and know that I'm still so early on--- what do I know!? I'm most terrified that it is not working and I won't lose. I am trying to really watch my sugars and carbs and only incorporate them where I really want (said refried beans). Has anyone further along and successful felt like this? My calorie count today after my last Protein Shake will be about 550. All last week on liquids I was around 300. Now I know this is ridiculous because no one is going to gain weight with that count!!

    Too Good To Be True?

Yes try Protein drinks...watch out for the sugar and carbs...another is carbmaster yogurt which is available at Kroger...if you have one... low carb and sugar... Also, as you progress, you can apply for free protein/vitamins/scar cream at InsureNutrition.com ... I get it delivered each month...the cream is really light and not greasy, and helped with other scars I have had for YEARS.!!!

    Breakfast anyone?

This may have too many carbs but I eat a 100 calorie serving of oatmeal mixed with a fat free fruit yogurt. You get about 10 grams of protein but I am not sure of the carbs. I also use unjury protein drink mixed in a blender with skim milk, sometimes frozen strawberry, or instant coffee and ice. Unjury has zero carbs and 20 grams of protein. Good luck!
  14. I have been sleeved for a little over 4 weeks and I have to agree, most of those Protein drinks are NASTY! I came across Premier Protein at Sams Club (costco carries it too) - it is AWESOME! It comes in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry and it is 30g of protein, 160 calories, 3g of sugar and 5g of carbs for 11 ozs. I highly recommend you scoop some up. It is by far the best tasting Protein Drink on the market (in my opinion). Sometimes on the weekends, Sam's Club demos the Protein Drinks and you can try them before buying them! I bought the individual packets from unjury too and a canister of unflavored to put in broth, yogurt etc. But the truth is...even the unflavored has a flavor. Hate to say it, but true. Good Luck to you!

    5 days Banded

I'm sore that true. By port incision is the sorest. I can tell that I still have gas, my tummy is extended. I did have a BM today though. I also had yogurt. It was good to have something other then jello, protein or water. I've also had about 15 fish crackers through out the day. I'm going to the movies w/Steph and her kids to get away. My kids have been just bored and bothering each other and I need out and DH sees this. He's the one that called her for me. Ok it's fucken hot and I need to get away from the computer.

    February '09 bandsters?

I had my surgery on the 24th and i'm feeling pretty good. The only incision that hurt was the port site but even that one is tolerable now. I'm supposed to stay on liquids for 2 weeks post op. I noticed some of you guys were allowed mashed potatoes or yogurt on your post op diets. How have you tolerated that. I'm starving and don't wanna screw up and go nuts eating crap cuz I'm so hungry . I'm so sick of liquids a yogurt would seem like a steak right now!
  19. hi evryone..i was banded the 23rd and still having gas pain ...i have to be on liquid diet until march 9th and that seems pretty hard...hate the taste of all that artificial sweetener...i have not had a problem with drinking or yogurts but just getting sick of it ..i move to stage 3 and even though i cant wait to taste real food i am following the rules. it is important for the healing process...doesnt mean that i couldnt eat food...but i wont worked too hard for this whole procedure...i think we just have to get through until our fills then it will be easier
  20. I'm scheduled for the 23rd as well! I hope you're doing well on whatever pre-op diet they have you on. (I have to drink 3 slim fasts a day and applesauce/yogurt/pudding.) Good luck! I'm starting, for the first time, to get nervous. I had my first consultation on September, did all my pre-op testing in October/November and then had to find the money to pay a program fee. Finally, right after New Year's, I got to go to the last two appointments before they schedule surgery. I've been excited the whole time, but now, it's just starting to get nerve racking. I'm not worried about possible side effects, I trust my surgeon. I think I'm scared on what's on the other side. I'm 21 and I've been overweight since I was 12. I don't know what it's like to be thin. I've never experienced it. I think that's what I'm scared of. I don't know whose under all the fat. Anyone else feel that way?
  21. Hey Guys, I got sleeved on the 21st. Everything went well in the hospital, no drains. In recovery, I did need the pain medicine, however now (at home), I've only taken it at night. I constantly feel full and am having issues taking in the required Protein and liquid. I am 4 days postop and I tried yogurt yesterday but since then I have felt unbelievably full and couldn't handle drinking Water. After the yogurt I couldn't eat or drink anything. Does this mean I stretched my sleeve? Maybe I pushed it too far? Anyone feel like this? Another thing, is it bad I keep sleeping on my belly? I also keep getting Charlie horses in my legs, anyone else get these? Thanks Jess
  22. Well I survived the first week. When I went the the hospital last Wednesday, I was excited, nervous and scared, all at once. I weighed in with a loss of 21 pounds loss from the liquid diet that I followed religiously for 9 days prior. It was so hard. I started on Memorial Day, got extremely sick that night. But I didn't give up , I stuck with it and succeeded that first step. Going through with the surgery was the second major step. Now one to step three losing the weight. The hardest part is figuring this all out. I had surgery Wednesday June 4th morning, and went home Friday afternooon. I had a normal recovery period in the hospital. Typical stomach pain, tired, nauseous feeing, and no appitite. I was put an stage two of the eating process. Creamed soups, yogurts, milk, etc. I started out ok but got very constipated. Realizing that I wasn't straining my creamed soups and my yogurt had fruit pieces, small but they all were there. I also wasn't taking the stool softener. All of which caused the constipation. Yuck, I was not happy. But I learned and moved on. I have lost only six pounds since Ive been home, and worried that I should be losing faster. I get stomach pains when I eat. They come on and go quickly. Im am wondering why this happens and how long it will last. I go see the doctor for my first post op check up next week. Well thats is for now . I think Ill update on a weekly basis.
  23. I love savory foods with a lot of flavor. I based this recipe on the Ricotta Bake from previous threads. The cheddar and Greek yogurt were the key to making this very satisfying for me. 15 ounces light ricotta cheese 1 package frozen spinach, thawed and squeezed dry (would also be great with broccoli or cauliflower) 1 cup freshly grated/shredded parmesan cheese 1 large egg 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (use 2% if you like, for less fat) 3 tablespoons fat free Greek yogurt salt to taste Mix all together - except for 1/2 C of parmesan -- put in a baking dish. Then add another 1/2 C of parmesan cheese on top and bake @ 350 till golden - - about 30 minutes. or Mix all together and put in a container of your choice. When you want a melty, cheezy snack, spoon out about a tablespoon and microwave for 30 seconds. (If you are concerned about the raw egg in the recipe, baking is always the safe bet. Reheating is easy and equally melty and cheezy.) According to a recipe/nutrition calculator, each tablespoon contains about 6 grams of Protein. Fat will vary with the type of cheese you use. With regular cheddar, it has 5grams of fat and 81 calories.

    Sleep Study Tonight

I have my second sleep study tonight. Yes, I said my second. I did one last year and did one at home about 4 or 5 months ago. Yet, I have to do it again. I'm not looking forward to it. I don't like sleeping somewhere besides my own bed and the fact that my two teen age children will be alone for the night doesn't really do anything to help matters. Oh, well. It's just another step in the process I guess. I realized something today. Its been about 2 weeks of the high protein, low fat, low carb diet and while eating dinner i ate the protein, then some vegetable and took maybe two bites of the scalloped potatoes ( which i would normally pig out on) and said "I'm full yet again!). Proud of myself for not eating everything that was in front of me. It's taking time but the way I eat is changing. My daughter, who will be 16 in August said it looks like I am already loosing weight. I have no idea as I haven't been weighed in a week. I hate the scale. It is NOT my friend but one day will be! I am eating my small meals as told. I now eat breakfast, something I haven't done in years and snack on string cheese, yogurt,or peanut butter. Baby steps... and I will succeed!

    Torani Sugar Free Syrup ?'s

I actually use the Protein powder...I can't seem to eat before lunch time except maybe fruit, cheese sticks or yogurt, so I usually have a protein drink. I've never bought the ready-made so I'm not sure but you won't know until you try it, right? Start with maybe a capful at a time and see what you like. The syrups are sold near the coffee or tea. The SF ones have the blue label, regular have red labels. Walmart actually had a better selection than Target, but not sure if that is everywhere. I was even surprised at the selection at sams club; that's where I found the coconut. I would like to buy more flavors, just need to make sure I will use them! Since you mentioned it I will go check their website for recipes. Eggface also has recipes on her blog, mainly for protien shakes and protein ice cream using the syrups.
