Keep your chin up, chicky. Injuries suck but you can lose weight through diet alone if you make great choices.

You can absolutely do this. If I can, anyone can.

  3. Blaah....day 10 and I'm feeling sad. The monotomy of this pre op diet is wearing on me. However I've perservered. Very anxious about things, surgery coming up this Wednesday. My weight loss has slowed down significantly since last week. Only lost 2 more pounds which bums me out when I have not so much as licked a spoon that I shouldn't have. On a brighter note, I feel good as far as my aches and pains go, in spite of the fact that I've had no ibuprophen since the 12th.

It will be so worth it when you look back a year from now. You will be so glad you did everything they said to do, all the bad parts of this process will be behind you and you will be looking so good!

Oh yeah. Pre op sucks but it must be done. Directly Post op isn't much fun either.

My Bariatric Life before weight loss and plastic surgeries

My Bariatric Life had gastric bypass surgery in July 2003. At that point in her life, she weighed 285 pounds, wore a size 24W, and was on ~10 prescription medications for obesity-related illnesses including diabetes and hypertension. Today My Bariatric Life has a BMI of 23 and wears a size 2 or 4. She is free from hypertension and diabetes and off 9 of 10 of those prescription medications. She owes her life to gastric bypass, plastic surgery, Paleo diet and exercise.

  18. I "lied" about having surgery for the first time yesterday. I put it in quotes because it was not technically a lie. A volunteer at work, whom I hadn't seen in months, saw me and commented on my weight loss. Then she said, "You didn't have that gastric bypass, did you?" Well, from how she asked, I could tell that she had a negative opinion of surgery, so I just said, "No" (because I didn't have bypass, I had the sleeve... see how sneaky I am?). And then she said, "Oh, thank god... that surgery scares me to death!" I feel bad because I missed an opportunity to educate someone on the facts of WLS, but I have only told a couple people at work and am trying to avoid the judgemental gossip that I know would happen. It may already be happening behind my back, but I'd rather keep it quiet. :(

    1. WLSResources/ClothingExch

      WLSResources/ClothingExch

Easy, LE, it's not your purpose in life to educate the masses about surgery. Now and then, when the occasion is conducive, fine. Otherwise, just do what makes sense for you at any given moment.

    2. LipstickLady

      LipstickLady

You didn't lie nor are you obligated to "educate" the ignorant. I've been "guilty" of this behavior a time or three and I feel no shame. It's MY body, MY health, and MY choice regarding who I share my decisions with.

    3. Chelle Bean

      Chelle Bean

Girl I don't blame you! sometimes it's a battle trying to explain the WLS to someone who has no idea about it b/c they've not done all the research on it! I know most the people at my work are tired of hearing about it. Oh well :) Good for you on your weight loss !

  19. I am post-op 11 mos and I have slowed down way too much. I no longer have drive or energy to do what I know to do. Need some encouragement...I am not hitting my weight goal at my year mark in a few weeks. How can I get it going again...thoughts?

    1. Cervidae

      Cervidae

I think if I were in the situation you are in right now, I would go back and look at my before and during pictures. I'm betting seeing the HUGE change would give me enough of a kick in the pants to get going again. Or perhaps go back to basics for a few days, and sort of reset your stomach and metabolism. There is also something called the five day pouch test that may help you. Try not to get too discouraged. You've come a looong way and worked hard to be here, and you'll be able to keep going because you already know you have the strength. Take care and be kind to yourself. :)

Try reviewing a couple of weeks of your food diaries. You may find that you've been more liberal than you'd been previously. Also do yourself the favor of recalling that few goals have an end date. It's the doing that achieves the goal, but there's no calendar attached. Certainly not when it comes to weight loss. You're still losing, so relax. You're doing/getting what you set out to do nearly a year ago. You're way ahead of the game.

  20. While at the gym, a random person came up to me and said, "wow you look great... how much weight have you lost?" I left the gym that night feeling satisfied that I have made the right decision. It's hard to see the changes in the mirror, but I will trust I'm making progress.

  23. Hi everyone. Thursday, Friday and Saturday I was walking because I felt so good on Thursday and Friday. However I think I have been doing too much walking and sewing. Last night as I was working on sewing a curtain for my patio which I hope to me able to get out onto in the next coming weeks my back across the shoulder really started to hurt. Today the lower back shoulder pain has moved to the side breast underarm pit area. Is it possible for that pain to move? It makes me wonderful if the lower back shoulder pain I had was gas pain due to the laparoscopic surgery. If it is when does this gas pain truly leave the body? This new location pain hurts as much as the lower shoulder back pain did. Also how is it possible to gain weight when all I have had is protein soups and shakes? Yesterday when I got on the scale I was up 4 pounds. It makes no sense. Does liquid Tylenol with codeine cause weight gain even when you don't eat anything? Sorry for the venting but today is not a good day. I am frustrating that I may be backsliding not progressing.

Thanks but a super hero I don't think so. During the 3 procedure operation I had my gallbladder taken out. This is not incision pain. It is in the right side lower back shoulder pain that moved today to the breast armpit area. I saw my PCP on Thursday when I had the pain for 6 days all ready. He thought when the nurses and Pt lifted me off the toilet they broke a rib. But that was not the case. He gave me liquid Tylenol with codeine and it was helping but when the pain switched to the breast armpit area the meds were not helping any more. The walking I was doing was with the walker but today I couldn't even get out the door. All I did was relax in my recliner, surf the net and watch TV. It is only 10 days post op so I was surprised to see a stall all ready

Don't psych yourself out ssflbelle, you are doing fine and everything is working fine. Just chill out and heal a little bit. Slow but sure is the tortoise. Take the small victories and I agree you should stay off the scale for a while. Gas pains can and do move from one area to another sometimes. I had similar problems years ago when I had an abdominal surgery. The gas working out was the worst part.

Don't be down on yourself !

Hi I am not sure about the gas pains - I am one week out of surgery and have been trying to walk a bit when I feel up to it probably not as hard as you walk tho. I was also having a meltdown over my weight gain from surgery so good news day 8 from surgery and finally lost 2 lbs .... geez seems slow but so happy to finally be lower than my weight before the surgery!!! Hope your gas pain subsides soon!
