hi pezo yes i did gain after surgery. it had to do with water retention, swelling, etc dont worry...i found staying away from the scale initially a good thing since it was making me crazy. i always felt if i didnt eat a meal i should lose 10 lbs (of course i am exaggerating) for the first 2 weeks i focused on getting back on my feet. the 3 main things my doctor stressed: 1. walk, walk, walk 2. do breathing exercises. 3. drink plenty of water. hope this helps....

Do you get indigestion? If sleep apnea fails, and since you're a snorer better than average chance you will have it, GERD is another comorbility. I knew I probably would have it and i do. My daddy had it, I had a score of 25, anything above 10 is positive and my pulse OX went down to 71% normal reading about 98% so I have and sleep with a CPAP machine. Took a little time getting used to it but I don't have the vivid nightmares and waking up startled I used to have. Will it be better after I have surgery and lose more weight? Jury out on that one, I've seen a lot of people say they don't need it anymore. Since mine has a heredity component I might not be so lucky. My family says i look like a jet pilot with it on, if it works I'll take it as a compliment. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -
I read somewhere someone goes to taco bell and gets a chicken soft taco and a side of refried beans, smooshes up the refried beans with the guts of the soft taco (throwing away the shell). Supposed to be delicious! Can't wait until I can get to mushies. I have to wait until 10/13...grrr

Try to get as much rest as you can, I was on day four as well, took 3 naps then slept for 10 hours. I think that you are on such a high from coming home, having surgery finally behind you, some meds still in you. Now, that has worn off, you begin to feel everything. I am having a hard time choking down the Protein shakes. sleep well....

Surgery Date May 21St
TinyMamiOf3kids replied to dieseluncg68's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sorry I don't have a respond but after reading your post. I was wondering if you lost a lot if weight what went wrong that you gain all the weight back? Did you stop eating healthy? Went back to fast food? I'm new with WLS so if I wrote something offending I'm sorry. I'm just wondering why ppl get WLS but the moment something goes wrong the pounds come back on. I'm on the diet before surgery May 30, 2012 I lost 10 pounds in 1 week. I'm not cheating & I had many opportunity since I cook 7 days a week & 3 meals per day but I'm commited to change my life & I don't want to continue being over weight after surgery. I want to do so much. I have really small kids. 3 years old & 4 years old. Then much older 15 years old all same hubby. -
Ok, so I was banded 10/21 and I have had success. I've lost 62 pounds. But over the last few weeks I've just stayed at my current weight. I work out 3-5 days a week. I've even changed up the routine but no change. Anyone else experience this? This must be a plateau but it is sooooooooo frustrating!!

Who has had success?
LadyDiva618 replied to rmalikone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on May 1 13 and I have lost 67 pounds total that is pre and post op. My port was removed on Sept 10 and I still have great success! Sundays are my triggers days because of sports. Sometimes a grazes sometimes I do. If I feel like I over did it... I work out another 10 mins. Since I know Sunday is my "free day" I normally burn 350 to 450 calories. If I want a late night snack Cheetos Puff corn is my choice. I know I am not perfect but I always remind myself that tomorrow is a new day. -
Do not drink with meals?
HonkyTonks replied to azeducator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hiya - just wondering how long before/after meals you guys drink. I usually do 10 minutes before and 30 minutes after. I need to drink lots of water so I can't really wait an hour or so (I've heard it being recommended and thought it was completely nuts) -

July 2010 Bandsters... Where are you guys??? LOL
dlynn1635 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My name is Demetra and I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I was banded on July 14, 2010 and have lost 86 lbs so far... I still have another 25 to go according to my doc. Weight loss is at a stand still right now. No weight loss prior to surgery so my starting weight was 273 and am currently at 187 give or take a few pounds day to day. Was wearing a 20/22 to start and am down to about a 10/12... Very happy with my progress. So I would love to hear from others that had surgery around that time! -
Do not drink with meals?
Jobstud replied to azeducator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is one of the harder adjustments to make for me as I am transitioning back to food. I always drank a lot of Water when I ate in my pre band life. I am finding that this is especially true at Breakfast when I just have to get my morning coffee (usually half a cup if I am lucky now) plus eat breakfast. For now I have decided on a liquid breakfast (coffee and a Protein shake) since I have such limited time in the morning and don't have the 20 - 30 minutes before and after eating to delay drinking. It gets easier as the day goes on. When I get to work I get myself a 16 oz cup of water and sip regularly. This keeps me satisfied until around 10 am or so when I have something small to eat like a small container of mixed fruit in light syrup. Then for lunch I force myself to eat slowly taking at least 30 minutes to eat lunch. Then once the hour is over I can resume the water again and try to get in at least 32 oz at work. Then after work I try to relax with some more water or V-8 before dinner then take my time eating (like lunch) and "forcing" myself to wait at least 20 - 30 minutes to drink again. Its tough and I have to admit that if my mouth is dry I do take a tiny sip within the time frame. So far I am not feeling hungry that much at all. In fact I have to remind myself (with wife's help) to get in my 80 grams of protein daily. This is usually topped off by a high protein snack about an hour before bed. I found South Beach Cereal Bars while shopping the other day. Only 140 calories and 10 grams of protein. Delicious and satisfying way to get added protein. -
SELF PAY QUESTION
NewSetOfCurves replied to muneca1029's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here in south Texas, you're looking at about $8,000-$11,000. However, lots of doctors require pre-operation procedures and consultations; all of which can be costly, especially without insurance. For example, most doctors require an upper endoscopy (or EGD). The cost of that procedure varies from $2k to $10k. The hospital I'm going to charges $6k, but I only pay 10%. So, she must consider those things. A lot of doctors also have credit lines, like Care Credit, that will cover the costs and create a payment plan. -
My leak test was awful. I don't know if that's the general consensus, but post-op every liquid felt like it was stopping above my diaphragm for 5-10 seconds before moving down and so I would sip slowly and small amounts to avoid it. When I got to the leak test, they told me to take it like a shot and augh, for those 5-10 seconds it was so uncomfortable. Good news is it started bubbling and moved down and I had no leaks! It was worth it for the peace of mind. It was also kinda neat to watch it go into my stomach on the xray machine screen.

Our Pets & Our Sore Tummies
rivergirl replied to MsButterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I kept a pillow on my tummy the first few days, and my 10# cat could lay on that just fine. My 70# dog who thinks she's a lap dog was my biggest concern. I stayed in the recliner and she would put her front legs and her head on my lap (not belly) and just gave me sad eyes for a few days. -

My surgery is the 18th, and I too have a little 10 pound dog. I know nothing will keep her off my lap, it's the 48 and 50 pound kiddos I have to worry about! -
Having a garage sale - PLUS SIZE ONLY!!!
deedee replied to Debbie031010's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I can relate. I've done many closet/drawer clean-outs throughout my weight loss journey. I began in 22/24 and got rid of things as I started to go down in size. I told myself I'd hang onto anything size 12 and smaller, but just this weekend I decided that I needed to clean out my 12's too. I have a pregnant friend who is an 8/10 normally and I told her I'd bring my 12's next week so she could have them instead of buying maternity clothes. I NEVER thought I'd be at a place where I'd get rid of this size because it's too big:-) Good luck with your yard sale!!! -
Hi. My name is Melissa. I had the gastric sleeve on 11/11/19. I am new to this as well.

I told myself I wouldn't call until the end of the day. But I called an hour ago. STILL Pending! The lady said it ususally takes about four days with Aetna. The wait is the worst! I did go to a support group last night. A woman there has lost 143 pounds in 19 months. That's so great. -
My Vertical Sleeve Journey
ho11ieberry06 replied to heath0827's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Heather your story hits so close to home with me. I'm so excited for you! I am still in the process of getting approved by my insurance. It seems like the 6 months is taking forever, but the closer it gets the more excited I get. I have about 1 more month left before the doctor can send my paperwork into the insurance for approval. I know I will be nervous waiting to see if I get approved and I just hope everything goes right. Did you have to lose 10% of your body weight? If so how did you do it? Holly
