    Todays the day!

Thanks! Everything went super fast. We went in at 9, surgery started at 11:00, out by 12:00 and he was discharged at 3:30. He's been feeling pretty good, but I think it's just because the morphine hasn't worn off yet. I think it's about to though. I can't wait to go next!

    8 months out and gaining

I am having a similar problem. I am 9 months out and have lost 115lbs, but have gaind 5lbs in the last week and a half so am to a weight loss of 110lbs. I have started working out a lot harder and am hoping that it is all muscle gain, but I hate seeing the scale move this way. I still have about 30lbs to lose and need help! I don't think I am over eating, but I know that I do eat a little fast. I am also not getting full at the same point I used to, but don't think I am over eating. I am still stopping after eating a small portion of food, but because I want to not because my tummy hurts. Thoughts? I think I am going to watch my carbs more closely. HELP ME! I am really sad and starting to worry. I have come too far to go back now.
  5. Before I say anything..let me say I have already called my doctor and have an appointment scheduled..but I just want to talk about it on here. I was banded Feb. 14, 2013. I felt like I have been doing good..I was 405 the day of surgery and I was 362 yesterday. The problem with that is..last week i was 358. I gained 4 lbs in a week and didnt change anything. I havent felt a lot of restriction since my last fill. I had a minor adjustment because I felt like I was close and now I Feel like I am further away from the green zone. I have only gotten stuck and had to vomit 1 time..it was my own fault..I ate too fast and the food had to come back up. That was 3 weeks ago. I havent had any other issues..no more vomitting and I am having no issues eating. My fear is that something is wrong..slipped band..leaking port..anything..something in my head is telling me something is wrong. Anyone had any issues like a slippage or leaking band? I dont know what kind of answers I am looking for..I just am scared.
  6. I hope the IV steroids aren't too hard on you and that you recover from this fast! And then you can get back to your new project - your WLS. Take care.

    Waiting for approval

I have Aetna POS and my approval came within 2 days. I was told it would take up to 15 days, so I was pleasantly surprised it came that fast. I certainly wish you the very best.
  8. In my experience, it is what you make it. While yes, your stomach is gone forever, the benefits are not forever. Most people many years out have learned to eat around the sleeve so that if they did not learn good food habits while they had restriction, they just return to their old ways. I am three months short of three years out from surgery. I hit goal in April of last year and I have maintained within 3-4 pounds. This morning I woke up a few ounces heavier than usual, so today I get to pay more attention to my food and exercise. Every single day is going to be a fight for the rest of your life, although the sleeve makes it substantially easier. I am never going to get to go on vacation for a week, eat whatever I want like those damn naturally skinny people do, and come back and have gained no weight. I could easily gain 5-8 pounds in a week if I ate sweets, which is my big "gain weight fast" food. Because I like being thin, I don't eat sweets anymore. I wake up and I weigh myself every morning. I missed a day in MyFitnessPal about 2 weeks ago and broke a 230+ day streak, so the last two weeks I haven't been recording my food intake, but really I don't need to anymore. I know what I can and cannot eat. This time three years ago I was 237-ish pounds, I could not manage to lose weight, and I was ashamed and miserable. This morning I weighed 132.8 pounds, I have a closet full of clothes that are 0-4, and I feel like a different person. The sleeve is not something that will make you thin and happy forever, but rather it is something that makes it a lot easier for you to reach and maintain a healthy weight if you are willing to make the sacrifices to do so. Where I live it is 95 degree outside already, I do NOT want to go workout, but in a little bit, I'm going to spray myself with sunscreen, whine as I get into workout clothes, and get my butt outside. I'll log my food today because I gained a bit over the weekend, I'll probably do my ab video, and I won't have any dessert at the Memorial Day party this afternoon. Sure, the sleeve made it easier to get to this size, but at this point the only thing keeping me here are my own daily decisions. So, the sleeve itself is forever, the benefits it provides are great the first year or two and then slowly drop, but you have the potential to use the tool to your advantage to achieve and maintain good health. In the end, it's entirely up to you- not what happens to be left of your stomach.

Restricted and Hungry - SO CONFUSED!

Also - I've had a hard time distinguishing between true tummy hunger and head hunger. Just because it's morning and usually breaksfast time for most, doesn't mean I need to eat. Same with lunch - I hear people using the micro at lunch and think, "oh, it's time to eat". I have to reminded myself a lot to only eat when truly hungry. I've also had to not allow myself to get too hungry because then I eat too fast and take bigger bites than I should. It's a journey and learning process. Don't be so eager to lose the weight so fast. Do what's best for you. You'll get there. I don't have a ton of weight to lose but I'm just as anxious as the next person but also don't want to sacrifice my long term success.

I don't want to tell people

I am a "closet bandster". Only one friend knows and they have been very supportive and respectful. It is your choice on what to tell people. I think it is possible to "pass" as the weight comes off slowly. I have alot of people noticing now and asking my secret. I tell them that I am watching what I eat and exercising, which is the truth! I log my food daily on SparkPeople, exercise 3-4 times a week, have cut out fast foods, etc. I have my emotional ups and downs about the band, but overall I am glad I did it. Good luck with your surgery! Less than a week!

    First time regurgitated

Also it's a going to be a learning process. What others can tolerate some can't. I cannot tolerate bread or corn products. I didn't know that at first until I've had embarrassing episode of vomiting after eating when I was on vacation in Europe. I was hungry and ate way to fast. You'll learn! Am I too tight?

I just received my 3rd fill. Before the fill I only had pbing if I ate too much or ate too fast. Since the fill it seems any meet I try to eat ends up making me sick. Is this normal? Is this the restriction I should have had all along? Chicken, pork chops etc. I cant seem to eat but a couple of bites now at best. Thanks
  13. So my consultation apt is coming up on Monday. I have also already scheduled all of my other necessary apts and testing over the next week and a half to get it done fast. I guess what my question is, is that I have no medical issues. BP, sugar, heart, lungs.. Everything is fine. However, I'm 5'3 and 278lbs which puts my bmi around 48. So can they approve my surgery based solely on my bmi? Or does there have to be another issue. Thanks in advance!

    Exercise

I walk as often as I can and on average four days a week. Started with about a mile and have been doing 2.5 to 3 miles for quite some time now. I don't jog but I don't saunter either. Guess I'd call it a fast walk. Didn't do any weight training until this week. I lost some muscle mass in my upper arms so I'm trying to get some of that back. But I have to say that I feel absolutely great and look forward to walking. I started walking on my treadmill but soon changed to walking in a park near my home. I enjoy the park more and so does my black lab. I'm 27 weeks post-op and it took several months but at this point I'm really quite addicted to walking. There is absolutely no question in my mind that walking has helped me enormously with the weight loss. I also feel better, physically and mentally, when I walk. I have noticed that I get tense and irritable when I don't walk for two or three days. Can't explain it but it definitely happens.

    No Pre Op liquid diet?

Good luck my BMI is 44 and I am having surgery in the states. After some further digging I found a few comments on here saying they also had no liquid diet just an 8 hour fast before surgery like I am I guess. But yes I guess we can only trust our surgeons. What can I eat for dinner ?

How far out are you? Are you at solid foods? I ate/eat a lot of Beans. Refried pinto or black with cheese. If I am feeling fancy, I add guacamole. Crab legs and crab cakes were an easy food for me at first. Shrimp was a bit hard but if I chopped it into seafood salad, it was great. Browned crumbled ground beef was great, with tomato sauce and cheese. I could eat chicken salad or tuna if it was mashed to death. Think about Soups, too. Bisque is yummy as is chili and beef stew. I love white chicken chili and ham and bean Soup. The only thing I like about the colder weather is all the soups on their way. Meatloaf is good, meatballs are good. I only use 85/15 now as dry meat gags me. Salsbury steak with onions. YUM. It took me about 8 months before I could eat "whole" chicken and even now at 17 months, I still have trouble with it at times. I can chop it, add a lot of gravy and it's better. Teeny bites and eat slow. I have a stricture so I was really slow to move to each stage and I still vomit from time to time. It's all in how fast I eat and how big my bite is.

    Drinking after surgery

I'm about 2 1/2 months out and I have had a glass of wine for my birthday and when I went out the girls one day. Just sip on it because it will hit you fast if you don't. I also sipped water with it the first time and I didn't really feel as drunk. Lol

    Drinking after surgery

Well I think I had my first glass of wine at 3 months. It goes to your system quickly. Please make sure you are with people you trust and that you will not be driving at all. Please don't drink more than one cocktail, as you will be surprised how fast the effects come and go. However the drink is still in your system after one drink.

    Sleeve

Welcome to the site and congratulations on being sleeved. It is really difficult to compare your results to anyone elses. There are just too may things to take into account to do an apples to apple comparison. Your startIng weight/BMI, weight loss history, age, gender, exercise level, fitness level ... I would definitely recommend you not trying to compare yourself. We don't know you and can't say if your progression is "normal". That being said, 12 pounds lost and kept off is awesome! Have you ever been able to do that before and know that those 12 pounds are never coming back? I followed the same advice as your nutrition classes suggested. I had to pull back a few times as my stomach was tender for awhile. But I kept following the rules of not drinking before, after or during eating and I always started with lean Protein before moving to veggies. I started exercising and running. As long as you stick to the rules, you will lose weight. Are you going to lose it as fast as someone starting out with a BMI of 80? I don't think so. I you going to lose it slower than a person who started out with a BMI of 30? I don't think so. You are going to lose at the rate you are going to lose. Follow the rules and it will be quicker. Break the rules and it will be slower. Good luck and welcome. Please keep us posted on your progress and don't forget to use the search functionality in the upper right hand corner if the website or under Option on your mobile device.

    A Couple Of ?'s

My band slipped after almost 2 1/2 yrs. Most likely from my excessive vomiting. I used vomiting as a way to stop the pain when I ate too fast. Not anymore tho! I never really had pain, per se. I began having severe nighttime reflux. I could keep most things down, but I was miserable at nite. After 4 mths of misery, my husband finally talked me into seeing my dr (I was so acraid of losing my band). After an xray disgnosed a minor slip, he unfilled my band by 50%. 8 started getiiing small fills again about 4 wks later. But after my 2nd 1 cc fill, I started the severe reflux again. Went back and they xrayed me again. The slip hadn't gotten any better (you"d think they would've done a follow up xray before they stafted filling me again). My PA told me he treats my symptoms not my xray. So he took out the revent 1cc fill to stop the reflux. It did stop. Temporarily. It started coming back about 4a wks later. Now I have it about twice a week. Guess I'll just suffer with it. Don't want to complain too much and lose my band. Just wanted to tell u that there's not always pain with a slip. Sometimes its reflux or nausea. Good luck Marci

  22. Hi Sarah, My name is Jaime and I am in the same boat you are in. I started my 6 months last month. My next appointment is July 27th. The waiting is the hard part! I have been reading lots of books and preparing myself (mentally right now) for the day of my surgery! Keep your head up...6 months will go by fast! Jaime
  23. I still have 2 pens and was considering 0.6 to see if it would help restart weightloss . All my morning fasting numbers are between 110-130.

Feels like somethings in my throat

For me, that meant I ate too fast or did not chew well enough. That is the only time I had that problem; which by the way was on multiple occasions. It is a learning process. I now go slower. My worst time was at work when I didn't pay attention to the time or I was really hungry and ate too fast. I now play games on my phone while I am eating at work. I make sure I play with my dominate hand. If my hand it busy with the game I go slower eating. It has been a great tool. Not saying this is necessarily what is causing it for you, but it was definitely my problem. If it lasts you should speak to your MD.
  25. So all of my close friends know about my surgery, and everyone is super helpful and understanding and I love them all for it. However with that being said with only one week to surgery my girl friends keep saying things to me like " your gonna loose soo much weight", and "your gonna be sooo skinny" and as encouraging as that is I know it's quite possible I may never be skinny or I may not loose the weight as fast as everyone thinks. I really do try to explain that to them and tell them not to expect too much cause I just don't know. I don't know how my body's going to react I don't know anything about how it's going to be afterwards. I just don't want to much pressure because as long as i'm doing my part however the weight comes off is fine with me. My step-dad asked me what my 1st goal was and I had to tell him whatever I loose is my goal I just don't want to gain anymore. Is it weird that i'm not setting goals for certain dates or is it good that i'm not setting myself especially since I havn't been banded yet? :confused2:
