New Member, Revised!

I'm from San Diego and live in Houston now. Dr. Ricardo Bonnor first did my VSG in 2013 then my 2020 DS revision. I have great insurance so they covered all my needs. The most I pay out of pocket for all medical bills is $5k each year. -

If you don’t mind me asking, who did your revision and how much was it? Did insurance cover it? I’m looking for a revision surgeon in California as well -
I am 7 days out now from a revision bypass. I am feeling pretty good. Out of shape it seems but I know it’s major surgery. I had a umbilical hernia repair on top of it. Caffeine withdrawal headache was a killer but it has pretty much subsided. My thing is, is my diet protocol the same as the sleeve. Can you recommend a site or a possibly printable friendly list. It seems I have to be more careful this time around. One the hernia heals I think I’ll be doing a lot better. My nutritionist wasn’t this helpful this time around and I go back to the surgeon on Monday and also the 25th. Thanks.

This may sound nuts but if your problem is that you have no room because too much was removed, how about a bypass ? Everything will slide through except proteins and I haven't gotten to those yet to know but I do know I am 2 weeks post revision from sleeve to bypass and everything just flows right through so far. I have not felt restriction. I am taking in 700 calories 2 weeks out and could take in more without much problem. Just a thought Good luck to you

Did you see big changes after 3 months?
2Bsmaller18 posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am at 3 months post brachio and revised tummy tuck (skin only not muscle). I had a 3 month follow up and he pointed to a few areas like by my elbows and on one side on my stomach and said it still a little swollen. I know it takes a year to see more of a final result but I kind of assumed that once the initial swelling was gone after 2-3 months any changes after would be very subtle. My waist is measuring 31 inches. I don't feel swollen but has anyone else really seen a big difference this far out. Could I go down a whole inch from here? I think he will need to go back in another 6 months to fix some bagginess and skin laxity still near my armpit and he agreed. I also have 2 areas with a tiny fold or pucker of the skin at the incision line. I asked about my scars that are still red and was given the 1 year answer but I am hopeful that in the next few months it will start to fade some. He wanted me to continue silicone tape or cream or even coconut cream but said to NOT use Bio oil. He said it is not good for post surgical scars. -

Dr. Francisco Gonzalez and/or Oasis of Hope - Any Feedback?

Did you have your surgery on 3/27?? I'm scheduled for 6/20... I'm having a revision from the sleeve to the DS... how did things go for you? -
My research suggests that revisions from sleeve tend to be either to DS or to bypass, with a very few being a resleeve done in certain cases, such as if the sleeve was oversized or defective in some way. At your current weight (assuming it is still less than 35 BMI?) I don’t know what the requirements might be unless you have serious Gerd or other issues? I know regain is a legit reason but I don’t know if they make you wait or what. Do you know why you have regained?

When researching my revision, I remember seeing a 5 year period was required by my carrier between WLS.

Why did you have a revision to bypass when you weigh so little, just curious -
You need to get back on the wagon. I honestly don't see how a revision could help anyone lose weight if they aren't following a program to begin with. You can do this please try and go back to clean eating. Have you tried the 5 day reset ?

About the only way you can get revision is serious GERD. But weight gain that soon after sleeve may indicate to some surgeons you aren't ready to undergo another procedure. Check with your bariatric center and see if what you are eating is contributing to weight gain. (are you back to old habits like soda, fast food, junk food, snacking, grazing, etc,). Also be aware that some medications can cause weight gain. Check any meds you take for weight gain as side effect. You need to figure out what is really going on before considering surgery again. With the restriction gone from sleeve, your weight now depends on you and see what you can do to fix problem. Getting regular exercise? Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app

Weight Loss Journey Challenges--HELP
MISTY_CEE035 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello Group! Today is my first day here onsite. I started my lifestyle change on 3/9/2009 when I had my WLS-Lapband. I went through some immediate results but 6 years later I developed an erosion in the mouth of the stomach that caused my tool to be removed. I experienced a rapid weight gain! On April 19 2016, my surgeon revisited my case and I was approved for a revision. We agreed on the Gastric Bypass. The surgery went well. I take my vitamins, eat right etc. On august 16, 2019 I underwent the Panniculectomy surgery which went very well. The recovery process was about a month. I am very happy with the results. Now, what I am currently experiencing is the UPs and Downs of weight loss and weight gain due to the unprecedented times we are experiencing and the challenges we faces each day. In March 2020, I was required to work from home which was great but the exercising has been limited. OMG how I miss the gym... I visited my nutritionist and she recommended I join this website for some guidance, support or even a fruitful tip that can keep me motivated. I do not wish to go backwards, I want to continue losing and I just seem to have lost sight. HELP -
How can I get a revision gastric sleeve approved? Had my surgery August 2018 started at 248 lowest at 170 and now I’m up at 195. I can’t seem to loose any more weight. But I don’t know how I would be able to get a revision. Any suggestions?

My opinion DS, just going by the Numbers and long term weight loss maintenance. Full disclosure I am considering a sleeve to DS revision myself. -

Hi Tracy. I would love to chat with you privately. I could use some help/encouragement. I have questions about reflux and revision. Is there a way we could communicate outside the forum? -

Obsessing about Plastic Surgery!!
summerset replied to ChubRub's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
@Darktowerdreamwhat catwoman said. I'm not trying to give someone a guilt trip - why should I? In the end everyone has to to make a decision. If people want to rush it - I can understand. I was in the same place several years ago. I just wanted to be over with this whole sh*t! Now I'm glad I didn't rush it because of weight loss due to revision. Imagine having plastics and then losing more weight. All wrinkly/saggy again and it doesn't need much weight to come off when you're in a normal BMI range to notice the change. -

That's why I'm glad now I postponed for so long. It's only 1 BMI point (about 3 kg) I dropped after revision but damn... it shows when it comes to the skin... I would never have imagined. -
Maybe worth spending six months with a bariatric dietician or nutritionist see how you go? If you don't have any restricition anymore though, maybe worth your while to see a surgeon about your revision options.

👋 I’m here! Surgury in 09/2014. I posted under a different handle back then but was on here a LOT from 2013 to 2015. Happy to see familiar folks! Am I the only one presently considering revision?? I want sleeve to DS.

Just got the Revision from a 2013 LSG to DS 10 days ago. I'm recovering well and seeing excellent results. Everything went better than expected. Just graduated to Puree stage today after four weeks of a liquid diet. The diet was satisfying and I never went hungry. Now I'm adding some new foods to my diet for this 2 week stage. In these COVID-19 times, the hospital does not allow visitors so no family could visit during my 5 day stay. I had four other required procedures that week for a total of 3 surgeries over 4 days. I've seen a lot of great, relevant information on this forum. I look forward to getting through the journey with all of you.

I think everyone wants validation and want help with this journey. I am unsure - I know I've spoken to him in the past but I really was joking!! I can't be so serious this whole time -- it's a lot to learn all over again being revised than sleeved... It really wasn't a choice I wanted but I had too, I'm too young to suffer for another 30-40 years and would rather do it now, but ... with that said, and like I said above, I think everyone wants some help with this and some maybe, just maybe, are a bit touchy LOL Maybe he needs to be validated -
Has Anyone Voluntarily had a Revision done?? Please share
RickM replied to Micarbtb86's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Strictly on a weight loss basis, from what I have seen over the years, I would not revise from a VSG to an RNY, simply because the two are so close metabolically that one doesn't really work any better than the other for weight loss. One may lose a bit more, maybe 10-20 lb, during the early post op stage when the diet is so limited during recovery, and the RNY malabsorption makes the loss a bit faster, but overall on winds up in the same place. In 2-3 years, you will likely be struggling to maintain your weight as you are now. If you need to keep yourself at, say, 1200 calories to maintain weight now, that will also be the case long term with the bypass. The RNY does tend to help with reflux problems (not guaranteed - some will still have it post RNY, or develop it later - but statistically better) but I wouldn't go through that unless it can't be controlled with medication. That is something to be medically evaluated, and if appropriate, that may be a good reason for such a revision. For weight struggles as the primary problem, I would look seriously at the DS as a better alternative as that is a metbolically stronger procedure than either the VSG or RNY. It is also a straightforward revision as it starts with your sleeve and adds the intestinal malabsorption to it. If appropriate, as resleeve can be done at the same time if there are any problems with your sleeve. The downside is that since the DS is more technically challenging for the surgeon, not as many surgeons offer it, so one sometimes has to look around to find one. Good luck!
