Gas and bloating 3 weeks PO

I have a small fortune invested into protien powders. I just can't seem to consume enough in a day. I am very restricted even with full liquids. I spoke with the surgeon and he said it will improve. He put me on carefenate (sp-sorry) it's an ulcer preventative and coats the stomach in case of inflammation. I am waiting for my insurance to approve the medicine, which is really annoying. Funny you mentioned probiotics, because I literally just started the Activia drinkable ones. I cannot even eat half a yogurt.

    Carbs

I snack on hard boiled eggs, mozzarella cheese sticks, thinly sliced cucumbers, carrots and apples. Also Greek yogurt.

Otherwise trying to settle firmly into maintenance. Food remains mostly the same but i did give up yogurt to see if it was prompting too may dumping episodes. Problem is i am also no longer eating the foods that i ate along with the yogurt so I'm not certain. Pics attached

    Food Before and After Photos

This is what I used to make mine this morning. It made a Oui sized yogurt glass full and was 1 serving for me. Don't mind my totals there. That's for the day today--estimated but wanted you to be albe to see the column labels.
  8. First time I made it, I made enough to fit a yogurt container (not the single serve ones), I kept scooping some out of that container for about 3 and a half days until it was gone. (For what it's worth, the recipe I used said it keeps for 4-5 days covered in the fridge)

    Pre Surgery Jitters

Congratulations on your journey as it seems you are already off to a good start. Don't worry about making your journey public as many of us here have chosen to keep our decision personal. Like you I don't eat cottage cheese or seafood but I find yogurt and different types of bean soups work for me. Don't stack up on to many food because your taste and craving will change after the surgery. Many also depend on protein shakes and powder as a good source of protein post-op. Wishing you the best on your journey!

IKR!? BUTTTTT, look at it this way. Lemme just show you the break out if you only have mocha pudding. For about a 6oz serving (Oui Yogurt Glass), it's only like 83cals. And you get omega 3's, healthy soluble fiber, protein, etc, etc, etc. Chocolate Protein Pudding: 86cals; 6g protein; 5g fat; 8g carbs; 7g fiber; 1g net carbs Imagine this without the blueberries and walnuts. That's more than a 1/2 cup of fat free pudding.

I'm double posting this cuz it's that good! The yogurt, blueberries and walnuts are optional. But they sure are delish! Mocha Caramel Chia Pudding with Blueberries and Walnuts. So rich and creamy! Using the hot coffee to swell the chia seeds makes them puff almost instantly! Just add coffee and keep stirring! TY @GreenTealael for sharing the secret to chia success!!! Woot!
  12. The corruption continues from @GreenTealael: I give you Mocha Caramel Chia Pudding with all sorts of healthy crap inside it, AND then I had to top it with more healthy stuff (blueberries and walnuts). LOL. Tea you were right. Hot liquid is the bomb-diggity dog! Instant chia bloom! (Yogurt is optional--it's sweeter without it, but it gave it more protein). I'll take a pic later when the sun comes up. (Ok, I couldn't wait--clearly no fasting this morning. So. Dang. Good!)

Gas and bloating 3 weeks PO

Lactose intolerance can develop and I started to get bad gas, chewable Lactaid helps. You could also try probiotics. Protein powder! Add it to everything, even the protein shakes and yogurts. I'd throw it in my pureed food like hummus and refried beans.
  14. janjan, At least you can get things down especially the fluid. I eat a Greek yogurt cup and im full even before finishing it and that lasts hours. for instance, today i ate 1 air fried chicken wing and some broccoli at 12pm.. here it is 2:38 and im still full. can't even fit in fluid, that's where I'm thinking im going wrong. Just try to watch how much you are eating/ drinking at a time cuz that will scare me as well
  15. Hahaha! Well maybe not crazy, but maybe Voodoo is involved? I know I can blame you thank you for personally bringing me to the dark side of lovin': kale matcha green tea any kind of tea (except tee tee) chia hemp hearts matcha yogurt with lemon twist stevia and blueberries and chia and hemp heart - oh my!

Susie, I'm over 3 months and get the rumbling with yogurt (although I live off yogurt) and also get the hiccups. They are both annoying and embarrassing. Glad it see it passes!

    The Maintenance Thread

just speaking for myself here, I eat more volume now, and I eat some things that I wouldn't have eaten before - like the occasional dessert. But I don't really eat things off plan very much - as in I usually avoid crap. When I go out to eat, I still order non-fried meats with vegetables, for example. I might eat a tortilla with my taco now and then (before, I'd just eat the innards), but I wouldn't get a pasta dish - nor would I order something fried or something with a heavy cream sauce. as an example, today I had protein pancakes for breakfast with a homemade apple/cinnamon compote on top. I put oat flour in my pancakes. I would not have eaten oats when I was in weight loss mode. I stuck mostly to protein and veggies back then. I did, however, make the compote I had today with Splenda, because I still avoid sugar. for a morning snack I had a protein bar. I did eat those occasionally while in weight loss mode. for lunch I had a cup of cottage cheese with a tablespoon of tahini mixed in (healthy fat - keeps me full longer) and a homemade blueberry sauce. I would not have had the tahini while in weight loss mode - nor would I have had a second serving of fruit in one day (although I did make the blueberry sauce with Splenda - again, no sugar). I probably would not have eaten a full cup of cottage cheese, either - maybe just half a cup. I had Light & Fit yogurt for an afternoon snack, with some raspberries on top. L&F I would have eaten during weight loss mode - but I would have ditched the raspberries back then because that makes three fruit servings in one day. for dinner I'm thinking of having half a burger, on half a bun, with a half a piece cheese, one piece of bacon, a tablespoon of avocado, and a little aioli (it's left over from the other night). During weight loss mode, I would not have had the bun. The other stuff would have been OK, but depending on how many calories I was eating at the time, I probably would not have had all those - maybe just one or two of them instead of four. SOOOO to answer your question, kind of a combination of both. But I still avoid sugar and crap food most of the time, and I try to average 1700 calories/day
  22. I'm about 11 weeks out. I get that stuck feeling, particularly if I eat too fast, usually during the evening meal when I haven't eaten since noon. I guess I'm hungry those times, but I don't experience hunger like I did before surgery, so I don't recognize the new feeling of hunger. I tried a one inch piece of a pita bread and I felt the stuck feeling then too, only more misery; I stay away from bready things now. I can eat about 1/4 cup of dense things (meat), 1/2 cup of yogurt consistency or soup consistency foods before I feel the stuck feeling. I have to have one protein shake a day yet in order to make my goals--I can drink about 8 oz of a thin shake fairly easily. A thicker shake is a smaller portion limit.

    VITAMINS AFTER GASTRIC SLEEVE?????

My Multi makes me sick too. I take it at night before bed and that helps . Careful though too that your multi doesn’t contain your iron supplement, because you shouldn’t take that with dairy products like yogurt or shakes. I usually have mine with a rice cake and PB2 and it does a good job keeping the nausea at bay.

    VITAMINS AFTER GASTRIC SLEEVE?????

Vitamin consumption has been sorta difficult for me. I was on the chewables following the surgery until the 2 month period, when I switched to capsules. (For the record, the chewables were not my favorite and I was elated to switch to capsules). The only one that I find that makes me sick now can by the multi-vitamin that I take in the mornings. I've had to empty it into yogurt or blend it with a shake. Otherwise, after 20 minutes or so, I feel really nauseous and often throw up.

    Puréed stage need ideas!

Try making some chicken salad, you can use the canned chicken or maybe ground up some rotisserie. Mix it with some light mayo or greek yogurt, seasonings. Maybe try a white bean chili. Can we mix some light alfredo sauce in chicken broth to make it taste a better, or is that a no? I am still pre-op, but dreading this process, so trying to think it through with you. I actually have a few soup recipes the dietician gave me, but i haven't made any of them yet. Can you have lentils? Black eyed peas are in season and are delicious when they are fresh. I would think broccoli cheese would be good as long as you shred the broccoli in a processor first. Please share if you come up with any favorites for this stage. Good Luck
