    Chickpea "Pasta"

Anyone ever try the carbanada pasta? on Amazon? I tried it pre surgery and didn’t think it was bad but there weren’t as many servings in the bag as it said so I had to recalculate the calories. I think some of the noodles broke in shipping so more fit into the measuring cup and it threw off the serving size. 2. That’s a cool feature. Didn’t even know that existed! I’m only 7 weeks out today so my top 10 actually only consists of protein shakes, yoghurt, cheese, salmon and eggs, lol. I do eat a lot of different things, but not every day, and like your salads, they’re low kcal and therefore don’t make it to the top 10.
  3. So I was curious and went into MFP to find out what my diet has been consisting of recently. I pulled up the data for the last 30 days and was (sorta, kinda) shocked to see that the majority of my calories came from Liquor, Cookies and Popcorn 😳 #YIKES. These items were also the highest in frequency consumed. With an average of 1700 calories a day. I suppose my salads were so few in calories that they just didn't make the Top 10??? Does this mean I drink more martinis than I eat salads??? #DOUBLEYIKES While my weight has been rock-solid-stable for the past 30 days (well, for the past 2 years, really), seeing this report has spurred me to clean up my diet. Thanks, MFP. Soooo...for curiosity and accountability's sake, what have y'all been eating the past month???? P.S. I'm 5'2", 116.9 lbs this morning, and 3 years out from sleeve surgery.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Hi Folks! Today I am 5 days post op (Sleeve on 10/1). I was discharged Sunday night, reluctantly, but discharged I was. Fluid intake was and still has been difficult. While my abdominal area heals and my stomach inflammation goes down, introducing liquid is painful. When I say it’s a JOB to meet the 60g Protein/64oz Fluids goal I’m not lyin! Where’s my check!?!? Lol The gas has finally started moving and thank the lord I managed a poop 🤷🏽‍♀️ Today. Everyday gets a little easier. The more I get up and move the more I see improvements. I don’t have a ton of energy yet, but I know it’ll come. Those prepping or you fortunate ones with very little prep, keep your head in the game. Nerves are normal and this is about taking care of YOU. Sure, there will be moments when you wonder “what in the **** did I do!?!”, but it’s a scattered thought and won’t stick around. I was a nervous comedian down to the last drop of happy juice that knocked me out. I had the entire OR Prep floor rolling. My husband kept telling me to shut up because me on drugs is NSFW. 😂😂😂 Anyway … good luck. And quick question. Anyone else find it easier to sleep sitting up post op? If so, how long did it last? Picture of 3 of my 4 pups at my side since I got home.

    September Surgery Buddies!!

Had VSG surgery 9/14 in Los Gatos, CA…did have 10-day preop diet of prescribed high protein shakes/soups/liquids plus hearty salad daily until clear liquids only day before procedure. Full three weeks out and trying to find my way with transition to blenderized foods and more than just liquids/purées, but definitely find some items don’t sit well and feel very heavy. Was walking too much and experiencing burning sensation on right side near largest incision so I backed off, but feeling like weight loss is slower than expected.

    OOTD

Took my 18 y.o. to their very first concert on 9/10/21 for an early birthday gift... went to see Between the Buried and me. Their all time favorite group.. (heavy metal). They just turned 18 this past weekend. We had a blast. I purchased this outfit from hot topic back in August. Its a Junior's XL. And by the time I got to wear it, it was a bit large on me. But over the 30 day exchange period. But that's OK. I did go back to HT and buy another cute skirt to wear to Badflower in a couple of weeks...a junior size L. I cannot wait for that show because the following morning s my skin removal surgery !!
  7. Who did you see? How long after your goal weight did you have surgery? I’m past goal (reached normal BMI at 6 months). Now down another 10 lbs. I feel like the excess skin is making me think I can’t just try to maintain.
  8. Ok,I really just pulled up the logs for my own curiosity. That and I'm bored. For funsies, here are my food logs for the first 7 days of my first AI vacay post op (@10 months, and in maintenance). Again, it is probably highly inaccurate as I was just guessing what was in the food and tried to pick the closest match from the MFP database. Also, all those mojitos were actually vodka sodas...i think!! Looking it over I guess I ate more crap than I remembered! Averaged about 2200 cals a day.
  9. Way back in the Bad Old Days, I was on whopping doses of not one, but two blood pressure medications, one of which had a water pill (diuretic) baked into it... and still my blood pressure was usually about 140/85, so barely controlled at all. When I had my VSG, my primary care doctor told me to take one dose of the one with the water pill the day after surgery to help me pee out the surgery fluid and then leave off taking it. I continued on the amlodipine at 10 mg. A week and a half later I had my blood pressure taken in the office and it was a bit low, so my doctor started me on 5 mg a day, but told me to monitor my blood pressure each morning before taking it. If it was normal, don't take the drug; and if it was normal for four days straight, to leave off taking the drug altogether and send him a message. Today was the fourth day. I took my blood pressure this morning as always, and it was 118/65. I am no longer on blood pressure medication, which was arguably my biggest reason for getting the surgery done! I've only lost 33 lbs. since surgery and have 84 to go, but apparently my circulatory system appreciated it and I went from barely-controlled-with-two-big-doses to no medication needed at all in a day short of three weeks.

    Scar camouflage tattoos

I actually just recently found an artist near me that specializes in scar matching/correction. (He also does stretch marks 😀) I am considering them, but not sure if it's worth it as mine are barely visible tbh. And except for the small part that show in a bikini (which I wear a few times a year), the rest of them are only visible when I'm naked. Not sure if it's worth spending a couple thousand on correction. Might have to reevaluate when I get my arms done and see how those scars settle. Kristie - you're still not very far out from ps. My scars at 10 months were still pretty red/purple. But they continued to improve, and are still improving at nearly two years. Mine are mostly a thin white line. But the areas where my drains were are still a little pink/purple. So patience might be the most effective option right now ms.sss - The artist I found does work on dark and raised scars as well. First step is micro needling, to flatten them. Second step is tattooing with ink that matches your skin tone. He says it takes more sessions, and isn't quite as effective on hyperpigmentation vs. hypopigmentation but his pics still show a dramatic improvement
  11. I also like putting the protein drinks in decaf coffee - I mix half a chocolate fairlife drink with about 10 ounces of decaf coffee to make 16 ounces of fluid and 15 g of protein for my morning's drink
  12. Well it has been 5-6 days wince my surgery!! I had to stay two nights in the hospital then went home in immense pain. Up until today I have not been able to get no real anything down. the most I got was 10 ounces of plain water yesterday. I can not take these lovely bariatric chewable vitamins, they made me sick immediately. I feel like a baby in that at 7pm every night I seem to get "colicky"!! I am 52 but am blessed to have a husband that does not mind burping me!!! :) This morning I am feeling stronger, I have talked with my NUT and gone over everything. I have taken two very long walks managed to get down 12oz. of water an some protein shake. I feel like I can see a light at the end of this tunnel. I am sure that I will have many more speed bumps but today I am strong!!!! Have a blessed day Everyone!!

    Breakup Because I Had WLS

Wow. Good riddance I say. My husband lost 70 lbs taking a weekly injectible for diabetes before I had my surgery. I know he wanted me to lose weight too. I had the sleeve in Dec 2019, and lost 104 lbs in 12 months and am maintaining that weight eating and drinking what I want but in tiny portions. I eat healthier than I used to, but I definitely still eat things on occasion that I did not eat in the first year at all, and I had no alcohol for the first 12 months. I am lucky like that, he was very supportive and even did the shake diet with me in the beginning. He's a great cook and it was my love of his good cooking and my liking to eat that got me to 304 lbs in the first place. I ate it all willingly, but he cooks healthier for me now. After 30 years I can't imagine my life with out him. That guy wasn't the right one for you, be glad he helped you see that before he broke your heart or it cost you money.
  14. I’m 62 and will be having bypass surgery on 10/25. I’m so happy for this next chapter to begin.
  15. Hello everyone. I was revised from VSG (Aug 2019) to RNY (Sept 2021). I was wondering if it is typical not to feel any restriction. I am 2.5 weeks post-op and I can easily consume 100g of protein since the day I returned home from surgery which amazes me as I could not consume 100g of protein with VSG until 2 months post-op. When I get hungry, I eat and I stop when I feel I've had enough and I always measure/track so I know exactly how much I'm consuming. I never feel full. I just feel not hungry. It's difficult to explain. Is it typical not to feel restriction? When does restriction typically come or does it at all? Do you ever feel "full" as with VSG? TIA

Traveling cross country-5 weeks post op

Don't be worried, there's places, just not as many as east of the Mississippi. If you're taking I-10, after you leave San Antonio there's at least decent size truck stops at Junction, Sonora, Ft. Stockton, and Van Horn. Once you leave El Paso there's Las Cruces, Deming, and Lordsburg. In Arizona there's San Simon, Willcox, and Benson before you get to Tucson (and on I-8 there's Gila Bend and Yuma). If you're taking I-20, west of Fort Worth there's Weatherford, Ranger, Abilene, Midland-Odessa, and Pecos before you hit I-10. If you're taking I-40, west of Oklahoma City there's Elk City, then in Texas there's Shamrock and Amarillo, then in NM there's Tucumcari, Santa Rosa, Albuquerque, Grants, and Gallup, and in Arizona there's Holbrook, Winslow, Flagstaff, Kingman, and stuff both in Needles CA and across in AZ (fill up in AZ, it's like a dollar and a half cheaper per gallon... CA prices for gas are insane though sometimes there's cheaper gas on-base). But there's nothing in California at all between Needles and Newberry Springs/Barstow which is like 120 miles.

    DUMPING 9 DAYS POST OP

I tend to agree with this. You’re not going to dump on water. I’ve never dumped but had the foamies countless times. The sides are very similar to dumping but take a look at what you consumed to know the difference. Also, I wouldn’t put much faith in ER doctors when it comes to bariatric surgery. Take this as first hand experience from working in an ER for 10 plus years as a nurse and being a bariatric patient myself.

    Foamies are the WORST

I had trouble taking all my 10 pills at night at first, too. They would start to just dissolve in my mouth and I'd herk them up. It would take me almost an hour to take all of them at first. Now at 3 weeks out I can take them all in about 5-10 minutes, but it definitely takes a lot more effort than before surgery, when I would take them all in one gulp. It gets better quickly, or at least that part did for me. Good luck!

    Unsupportive Boyfriend

Ya, this is an oldie but a common problem... and I did the same thing, ran over and gave my fiancé a huge hug and a kiss. If you're reading this and thinking the original post applies to you... there's an easy way to lose 200 lbs. really quickly via dumping syndrome... as in, dumping the unsupportive loser. Let him be jealous when you're a 10 outside as well as inside and he's stuck at a 4... maybe.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Hi everyone! I’m having surgery tomorrow 10/2/21 in Tijuana. My mom had the same gastric sleeve procedure done at the same location years ago and is doing great…but I’m still so nervous. I’ve never had surgery before and am really scared of anesthesia or some crazy complication (though I know the chance is tiny). Also I’m afraid I won’t be able to eat anything normal after recovery…I really love cooking and having friends and family over for dinner. It’s always been such a source of pride to me and I feel sad I won’t be able to enjoy that the way I used to. Just trying to focus on all the good things that will come of this to stay calm and positive. No more joint pain, fitting into old clothes, better body image, etc!! Very best of luck to everyone, I just signed up for this and it’s really comforting to know I’m not alone

    September Surgery Buddies!!

I had my surgery (VSG) on the 1st of September. I’ve been stuck at the same weight now for 2 weeks. What the heck? I feel like I’m already failing. I get enough protein and water in, I’m constantly active. I struggle with severe depression and anxiety and I’m afraid that stress is still affecting my hormones like they did pre-surgery. A month after my surgery and I’m only down 10 pounds. I feel like a failure, and like I did this for nothing.

  24. I would not spend $1000 for someone to "coach" me through fasting. What are they going to tell you? Don't eat? Also, fasting is not a long term plan to lose weight and keep it off. The only thing with a lot of evidence is surgery, although it is certainly not an easy fix. I'm 2.5 weeks out and I'm pretty miserable. I would go one of the two surgery routes, personally. Which you choose is up to you. I'm guessing you are in Canada. I'm in the US and I had private insurance, and waited about 7.5 months for my surgery. The wait was hard, but I spent the time working on eating better and exercising. However, waiting 1-4 years would have been unacceptable to me and I would have paid out of pocket. To be honest, the support I'm getting now from my supposedly top of the line surgery center is pretty lousy, so I wouldn't assume that you'd get amazing support from HealthCanada. I've heard from people in the UK that NHS provides really lousy follow up, too. But, I don't know how much resources you have available to devote to this process, and you definitely don't want to bankrupt yourself to have surgery. I know many people have gone to Mexico to have the surgery and been very successful, but it wouldn't be my choice. There are so many resources online, both these message boards and also I love the facebook group "my level 10 life" (the person who started it has a ton of YouTube videos but she's not always to my taste). You can also hire a bariatric therapist, and that's probably a good idea regardless of which path you choose. Good luck and keep checking in!

    DUMPING 9 DAYS POST OP

Yesterday I experienced DUMPING - DUN DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN. I had nausea, pain, high heart rate, cold sweats, and i threw up (water since i am still in my full liquid phase) I was wondering why i wasn't feeling well and it was because i had drank too much, too fast, too often! (supposed to be an one ounce every 10-15 MIN) Which in my defense, in the beginning i could drink as much as i wanted. With the exception of a little soreness going down but i never had the 'full' sensation until this morning. So i more than likely over did it. Today i am so much better
