    February Surgery ?

So far so good, sometimes (like now) I will have pain on my front right side, I have gotten tired out of the blue a few times, and getting up too fast I have become dizzy. all and all I’m excited about the future now. I’ve been walking a few times a day seem to help but my wife keeps saying to take it a bit easy still

    Self Pay Gastric Sleeve Surgery:

Funny enough, I was with a different surgeon that my wife had found before they decided mid year that they were no longer accepting my insurance. So I decided to do my own research and came across Dr. Schillingford. Aside from the overwhelming responses of good experience with him, I noticed that alot of his patients were self pay. For me, my insurance company required the nutrition visits and psych evaluations, not the Dr. My initial consultation with him was a group consultation which he spelled out the details and what was expected and answered any questions. He did not require any particular weight loss, but did have a 2 week pre op diet, which is normal. I'm nearly 3 months out and have my 2nd follow up next week. Support groups are not required, but they are provided. Their support staff is really friendly if you call, although they don't always answer the phone so leave a message and they will usually get back to you pretty fast. I'm sure @Lolo 2020 can fill in the blanks where I didn't. As for my personal success, started 11/7/19 at 328 lbs, 268 this morning.

    Enjoying food is gone?

I'm not even a month out from my surgery so I can't really say for long term, but you get full really, really fast. I still enjoy eating, just wayyyy tinier amounts. I eat cauliflower pizza, but get full after one slice where before I ate three before getting full. I eat a modified taco salad which has seasoned ground turkey, cheese, avocado, taco sauce, and tomatoes and it's delicious but I can only eat 1/3 of a cup of it before I'm full. You can still enjoy food, just not in the same volume. And... the first two stages suck. Just saying... but it's only for two weeks. Soft foods stage is what I'm on now but on Friday I get to stage 4! I can't wait to eat pork again!

    9 weeks post-op

Yeah, same here. I stayed at the same weight maybe a few ounces different during the stall. I hope I’m finally past that! I think we see the first 15-20 come off so fast it’s like we expect that to continue lol. Weighing daily is def a struggle lol. I’ve taken days off from weighing and it seems that’s when I drop a pound or two lol

    February Surgery ?

I had been doing keto and IF and that felt so much easier. It's hard because I have young children and a husband with a super fast metabolism so I'm the only one carrying extra weight in the house. They can eat whatever, whenever and I'm in the corner with my jello, lol. Thank you for the encouragement and best wishes for the 19th!

    Fast track gastric sleeve

Blossom Bariatrics. I paid 15,000 for my surgery, but if you have insurance, it's usually about $6,500-ish. Look up their fast track program. They provide drivers, hotel, testing, surgery, and iv therapy. There is other stuff, too, but I can't remember off the top of my head, but they're all fantastic and great to work with.

    Hunger

I am ok with the shaved ice and I do better with cold liquids vs room temp I was told i can have boost glucose control and carnation healthy start which are helping I keep forgetting the tea ... ..and have bouts of hangry because everybody else in the house must be fed. This zero yogurt i have Monday is going to be the best ever lol. Didn't realize how emotional I would be and how fast the weight would be coming off even before surgery i lost 7 lbs from Friday to Monday. I have a heightened sense of smell for food for some reason. I keep getting random painful hiccups and only two of my incisions hurt but the others itch like crazy which I know signifies healing but oddly enough where they injected my blood thinner days ago itches more than anything. But I'm trying to stay positive ..and not bite somebody lol
  8. No pain. They give plenty on pain meds so you dont feel the wounds or anything. Make sure you dont drink too fast after surgery because you will feel nasea. You may feel slight discomfort if anything because you have to becarful of your wounds, so you shuffel around very slowly. No need to worry!

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

Same day surgery but I had RNY! I'm on soft foods now and life is so good EXCEPT I am having a much harder time hydrating when I eat real food since we can't eat after. I was really tired and lethargic today and decided to just go full liquids to get my energy back up and it worked wonders ! I only threw up once and it was deli turkey that I ate way too fast so I feel ya there! I do have some of what I call "food sweats" if I eat too fast or too rich (had a bisque the other day woowweee) but that passes after 10-15 minutes and then I'm fine and it helps me learn a lesson. So far my best friends are: refried beans with cheese and sour cream, a small spoonful of peanut butter (great way to get calories and protein up) and banana, blended veggie soups, and my morning green smoothie. None of that has bothered me at all! Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

Hey everyone, I'm brand new to the forum and this is my first reply to a thread. I had VSG surgery January 27th, so I'm almost 3 weeks out. Physically I feel fine, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't missing food a lot! I moved to pureed diet last Monday after 4 weeks all liquid and that first egg I ate was the best thing ever. Today I tried an egg with a runny yolk and thankfully it went down smoothly. I did throw up for the first time last week when I ate a small piece of salmon, I think I ate it too fast, so I've definitely been a bit gun shy. Sounds like you guys are really brave with your diets, I'm scared to try all these new foods. I also think I've hit my stall early, I only lost 2lbs last week which was really discouraging. But for now I'm focused on getting in my fluids and protein shake (premier protein), and getting food in around that, but between fluids and all the damn supplements I find I'm not hungry all too often. I'm following now, can't wait to see how everyone is doing!

    WHERE DO I EVEN START?!

Make an appt with your primary physician, and then have them give you a referral to a bariatric surgeon. I gave myself the out when I first went, told myself I wasn't 100% sure if I wanted to go through with it, i didn't have too. But i made myself commit to the process, knowing it would take 6 to 8 months (depending on what your insurance requires. Money required 6 months of appts with a dietitian, and after those were finished then a few other appts with my 0rimary to have an ekg and a physical). It isn't a fast process. I started last July, and finally am starting my pre-OP diet monday, surgery scheduled for march 3. So this is my long way of saying call and make an appt and get the ball rolling! Good luck!
  12. Just had my VSG done in Vegas. Great experience. Called them 3 weeks ago and I was scheduled right away. They do all the labs the day before surgery. Everyone is very nice. My first post so hope it is helpful.

    How to start?

I did. I did the fast track program through Blossom Bariatrics in Las Vegas Nevada... I don't have insurance, so my total cost was $15,000, but I know they offer it for around $6500 with insurance if it's approved.

    Eating too Fast

Oh dear I just ate some mackerel really fast totally forgot I'd had surgery 6 weeks ago. I'm now sat here with stomach ache and really weird noises coming from my stomach. What a stupid mistake. I've never thrown up yet but that might be about to change

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

I have been really good about taking small bites so far. Prior to surgery I used to just scarf food down. I had one meal where I ate too fast and had the same thing. Felt like there was a lump of clay in my chest/stomach. Haven't made that mistake again. You just have to be mindful all the time. Hopefully keeping it up will build good habits.

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

Oh, no! No fun at all. So, I guess the vomiting if you eat too fast is for real!
  17. Well the last week I was unwell had a bug like sore throat and headaches so took my mind off my diet. might have had a few cracker biscuits and some extra carbs one day I was just so unwell.. But now the last couple days I've got back on track had a fast for like 24hrs and woke up today FINALLY broke the stall I had for like 2 weeks and I'm finally into a healthy bmi range for the first time in like 15 years As of today I'm currently 182.5LBS that's a total of 139.5lbs gone - good riddance!!! I thought I may never get there.. My high weight was 322Lbs. finally healthy BMI of 24.7 😀 so my message to everyone. Never give up. keep fighting. Keep focused. YOU CAN DO IT !!!! MIKEY
  18. I had my surgery feb 6th 2020 as well as my mom did. I found this program and I made sure my mom and I would be in the same room and they confirmed it multiple times!! This program has extremely high reviews bc THEY DONT ALLOW BAD REVIEWS ON THEIR PAGES. We get there and we are separate. It’s very scary being somewhere especially out of country (I’ve never been out of country) with just my mom and now being in different rooms under going a serious surgery I called Joanne and she told me that she never told me that... pisses me off bc she confirmed it a few times (I woulda never gone if I knew we would be separated) Anyways The nurses (night shift) turn your beepers off and act like you are putting them out, took them about 2 hours for them to finally respond to your call when you push the button. My mom was leaking out of her incision and she told about 4 people her bed was covered in blood (we took pictures bc we knew they would deny it ) and still no one did anything about it until 4 hours later someone just threw a towel over the bloody bed. I finally felt good enough to go in and check on her. We were terrified to continue to ask for help bc they were already making us get our own ice and we’re turning our room monitors off when we kept calling for help The next day the day shift finally changed her sheets. The women at the front desk don’t help with anything. They never gave my mom a breathing machine until a day and a half after her surgery. One was a asleep and the other was playing on her phone the whole night. The stay was bad. Anyways the part your probably more concerned about was the surgery it’s self... they woke me up in the recovery room and I was in Excruciating pain! Worst pain I’ve ever been in in my entire life. I slept on and off for 24 hours that day bc I just couldn’t handle the pain. My mom was in bad pain too. She coughed and she said she felt something ripped and I ran as fast as I could being in so much pain the tell the nurse and he had to go get a coffee and enjoy it before he checked on her which was about 2-3 hours later while she laid there in Tremendous pain. I wouldn’t recommend this program to anyone I’m shocked it had such good ratings! There also was another women getting the same thing and had the exact same problems and they just left her and didn’t help with anything. Also thru the entire process the founder of Beliteweight or anyone in that program never once called to check on me or my mom or the other lady! They just want your money.. DONT DO IT
  19. I follow 18:6. I just started a 24hr fast after dinner last night. Right now I feel like I may go until lunch tomorrow. Fingers crossed. And I’m excite to find this group. You all are great

    Not enough weight for surgery

Yes, those of us with lower BMI's are very likely to go from XL or plus size to normal sizes very fast. I initially only bought workout clothes while I was on FMLA. When I knew I had to go back to work, I ordered size large Tunics and stretchy work appropriate pants. I figured the tunics would cover the tighter then looser pants. And they did. But... about a month later they were way too big still. I am 5 months out. I wear a size 8 pants with medium tops most of the time, but am also wearing some size 6 and smalls.
  21. I'm just shy of 7 months post op from a Modified DS. Starting weight was 244 - current weight is 165. Do you eventually stop loosing weight? It's still coming off pretty fast and part of me worries that I'm going to get 'too thin'.
  22. Hi, I am 1 month post op and I have den having the hardest time staying asleep. I don't have a problem falling asleep but then I wake up 3 hours later and toss and turn. My Dr prescribed Ambien to help but it's not doing much. I am trying to get my fluids and protein in but I feel like I am thirsty a lot. I also wake and my heart is beating fast in my chest. I'm wondering if I am dehydrated? Anyone else have the same issues?

    Not enough weight for surgery

You should look at this from a different perspective. You have fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes as well as pain in your joints neck and back. Would you rather become fatter and acquire more problems before you resolve your weight issue? It is never too soon to take steps to improve your health. Losing weight is the most important step for many. You are making the brave choice to do what you need to do to get it done. Don't feel guilty about doing it! You know... first I was embarrassed and did not show my actual "weights" in my stats, thinking I was too lightweight to share with everyone here... when many weigh hundreds of pounds more than me. Then I realized over time, there are a lot of us lower BMI people on this website, just like me. And ALL of us, high bmi and lower bmi... we all have the same goals. To get to a healthier weight for a healthier body. The only difference is how much weight we have to lose and how fast we get to our goals. But... we all have to work to get there! And BTW, you will notice my actual weights are in my stats and ticker now. I changed it earlier this week. No reason not to share!
  24. Not formally like they do in Fung's group or with Resetter's on FB. But some of us announce our fast and others join in on that day. I think we all do it a bit differently. Welcome to the group though! What forms of IF do you practice?
  25. Do you all ever fast as a group?
