Hello beautiful people! My surgery is booked on 24th June! For a revision to mini bypass and lap band removal! All in one surgery.. im so scared, and looking for some support and success stories! I dont know why im so scared this time, my mind is just going to the weirdest places! How was recovery for anyone who went through the same? i just need some support right now 🙂 This pre-op diet is also so hard when im so anxious like this! 😟 Thank you 🙏

How do you deal? It's so hard..

I'm on the puree diet right now. I hope you stay strong and take it day by day. Each Post OP day was way better than the last. During my first week post OP I've taken my family to fast food restaurants and sit with them drinking water while they eat. I've cooked dinner or baked cookies or bread which I was not going to eat. For me, I am so sure I will follow the nutrition plan, it isn't tempting at all. They feel bad eating in front of me but I tell them it honestly isn't an issue. I did this twice, once for the sleeve, then once for the revision to DS. Something that made it even easier this year is that I dieted for 5 months prior to my surgery. I dropped all sugary foods, fried foods, and sugary beverages. Another thing that helps me is having a finite list of things I am allowed to eat. If I see or smell something else, I just say that's not one of the 10 things I plan to eat during this phase. I understand the position you are in now craving things you may have had recently but knowing if you eat them you could put your health at risk. There is definitely a need to set boundaries with your spouse regarding where he eats since this is troubling you.

    June 2020 surgeries

Hello everybody! Had a revision from sleeve to RNY on 6/8. Had my sleeve in 2015 and lost the weight and kept it off for a while. I previously had a pretty unfriendly doctor and when I started having awful, awful acid reflux, he would usually describe it as user error “what are you eating to cause it, etc.” it was pretty rough on me because I felt like all my acid was caused by me and I was failing myself! Then I got on anxiety and depression medication (and the playing around with dosages and prescription) and the weight all of a sudden piled on. I luckily saw a billboard for my current surgeon and on a whim, decided to see if he had tips at least to get the weight loss started again. He was so sweet and helpful and made me realize there were some factors out of my control and the revision was a good plan! Was originally planned for March but COVID delayed and I really struggled with a lot of guilt for gaining/falling off the wagon during quarantine. My doctor was not concerned at all. Hope that helps some of you feeling guilty! Some things that have been helpful for me: * No one knows your body as well as you do. I wish I had been a bit more insistent with my first doctor about the acid reflux - but know I won’t be that way anymore! * I desperately asked my nurses to help me get up and pee in the middle of the night and no one came! I got myself up and did it myself because I had been walking around a lot during the day. Apparently I overexerted myself and gave myself “deep stitch” pain. It was unbearable! Felt like a jab in my left side anytime I did anything! Doctor recommended Aspercreme with Lidocaine to numb the area and alternate between heating pad and ice pack. Also have been using a toddler pillow to press on that area as I stand (like an extra compression of a binder) and that’s been more helpful than I expected! * If watching tv, avoid watching commercials. I found that seeing a pizza commercial made me think I was hungry when I definitely wasn’t! (More applicable to sleeve. Haven’t had any hunger pangs with RNY) * Would also like to recommend BariatricPal 25g Whey Protein & Collagen Power Shots - Crisp Apple only 3oz to drink but gets you 25g of protein! Grateful to have this forum, didn’t even think about it last time! Good luck to everyone else with upcoming surgeries. It can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel the first few weeks when you’re in pain but when I had the sleeve, I forgot all about the pain and just was so grateful for it!!

    Oh boy

I'm still convinced that virgin weightloss surgeries have a different level of restriction than revisions but don't worry about it, success can still be achieved. Try to move slowly through the foods to check for food intolerances vs a structural issue such as stricture. Good Luck
  5. Had revision on 5/27 - 4 days ago started feeling sick and vomitting up bile. Horrendous pain. I couldn’t get liquids down. I had the same issues with the sleeve though even years out. Water bothered me all the time. Had to do sips all the time. Other liquids not so much. But nothing stayed for.  Surgeon requested a ER visit so Off I went. Turns out that something was going on. Had a contest ct scan but was normal as it was on Saturday when I had one for my large hematoma.  I just had lapro again yesterday as some of the scar tissue was giving me an issue. Was only 2 weeks. I hope this was just a flukr. They said sometimes it happens I am Hoping to go home today!!!! And this is the restart to things to come.  I know some have said you lose your restriction. Sleeve was better with that. I find restriction but could that be cause it’s a new surgery?  Hope all is well.

    JUNE 2020 BYPASSERS

Congratulations on getting that done! We all worry about worst case scenarios. Relax and focus on recovery. I also had no trouble with fluids after my sleeve or bypass revision. No nausea or gas pain either. I did have a reduced appetite so I didn't have a lot of desire to drink a lot of liquids.

    I think something is wrong?

In 2013 I got sleeved. By 9 to 12 months post OP I went through the same issues. I was able to work and focus, but I lost a desire for everything. I didn't have any interests, desires, and everything I used to care about was unimportant. I was also getting light headed and dizzy at that time. I know my diet at the time was too extreme. This is when I hit my lowest weight in a decade. Was 327 lbs. and got down to 209 lbs. I wasn't expecting weight loss to reduce my happiness so much. Unfortunately, the way I dealt with this was to just stop the extreme diet. I gained some weight back and most of these issues cleared up. I was probably dealing with a combination of poor nutrition, low blood pressure, and depression. Fast forward to today. I recently got a revision to DS. I again feel light headed and fatigued. My Doctor is adjusting my blood pressure medicine. I'm careful about getting all the nutrition, vitamins, and supplements I need. Now I'll follow a permanent, reasonable and sustainable diet.
  9. Just got revised 6/8 and my biggest pain is my lower left abdomen and side. Does anyone have any tips for getting through this part? I’m wearing a binder and trying to walk as much as I can. Any tips would be very much appreciated!
  10. If you have any kind of heartburn what so ever you may as well do the bypass, otherwise I would do the sleeve. Its really your choice when it comes right down to it. I had just started having mild heartburn and it runs in my family so I should of had that bypass to begin with instead of the revision to bypass.
  11. She is right. I had the revision done a few weeks ago and I could eat more calories if I wanted or needed to. I am doing 700 no problems. There is no restriction for me like with the sleeve so all liquids and full liquids and even some soft foods just slide right on through. It is really weird ! I can see how people could gain so easily with this if they just ate slider foods.
  12. Morning everyone! Revised 5/27, feeling great, had post surgery visit yesterday - all is well, besides the hematoma - posted a topic the other day - but all is well .... surgeon isn't that concerned. Yesterday morning, I was woken up by this weird feeling in my chest, sat up fast and boom - acid vomit - light green bile looking. Didnt think anything of it till today --- same thing - this time I didn't vomit but the acid/bile or whatever it is - is horrendous. I thought, or I was hoping, that the revision would take care of this - and this is worse than before the surgery -- fluke? I'm on Prilosec, but normally that doesn't work for me, so the surgeon gave me Protonix yesterday, which I love... always worked, as did Nexium. What could it be? Could it be lack of food? should I maybe eat something before going to bed - even if protein shake? Thanks - hope all is well with everyone!!!

    Revision completed

I am having a revision and hernia repair on June 19th, I gained about 50 pounds since my lowest weight after sleeve surgery. I feel like I’m always hungry and wondering if I’ll lose more weight and feel restriction again after my revision? I am getting revised to fix GERD but would like to reach my goal weight which I never did with my sleeve.

I hope you feel better soon. Hang in there, it takes time to get better. 🙂 I hv my revision on June 24, and I’m starting to get kinda nervous. I have a hiatal hernia to hv fixed and then gastric bypass. Do they put drainage tubes in ur stomach for a revision?

    Post Op Day 4, intake

I did the revision to DS three weeks ago. My sleeve was done 7 years ago. I have no problem getting liquids or food down. I do have a reduced appetite and portion sizes have to be small. I remember having no issues with getting enough fluids post OP for the sleeve. I understand your back may get tired and sleeping on your side can be painful. I was able to sleep on one side or on my back since the first post OP day in the hospital. I also had one larger incision that caused pain for two weeks. I'm recovering better than expected because I actually had three surgeries in four days, two were laproscopic (used same incisions). Fortunately, the pain goes down a lot each day until you don't feel it anymore. Following a serious motorcycle accident years back, I had a fractured pelvis and could only lay on my back for 6 weeks. Laying on my side or stomach would put pressure on the fractures and cause pain. It is strange how sleeping on your side becomes your number 1 goal in life when you can't do so. My best advice is to sleep on your back. When you feel your back is tired or sore, stand up and walk even if it is just one minute. Try sitting in a chair for a few minutes then try laying on your back again.
  17. if you're at a normal BMI, you may not lose any more weight. People who are still pretty far from goal typically do with a revision (although not as quickly as with a virgin surgery), but if you're at a normal weight, then you may not. Just follow your surgeon's guidelines and you should be fine..
  18. I had my sleeve done in 2011, reached my goal weight of 138, and have maintained it since. I developed GERD about two years after the sleeve surgery. I've been on omeprazole since, the max dosage the past two years. GERD gave me an esophageal stricture which causes food and liquids to regurgitate back into my mouth after swallowing. It's truly gross to have to repeatedly reswallow the same mouthful of food. Sometimes things get stuck and I have to vomit them up. I've had a couple of endoscopies, a BRAVO study, and esophageal manometry. The manometry shows I have achalasia (impaired swallowing) too, not surprising when you only have a 12.5 mm wide esophagus. It was dilated during an endoscopy, but shrank back down fairly quickly. My surgeon wants to do a Heller myotomy to fix the stricture but a common side effect of myotomy is GERD. So he has to do something about the GERD, too, and that has to be some kind of bypass. Since I'm at goal weight with a BMI of 21, I don't have much spare poundage to lose. Plus I'm 65 and don't want to end up one of those "frail elderly" people who can't carry groceries or walk very far. I am hoping that my surgeon will make the very shortest bypass limb he can. Approval came a week after submission so I'm scheduled for June 29. No preop diet required. It's all happening a little fast and I'm a little freaked out. I think I've forgotten all the food stages :-). Support would be appreciated.

    June 2020 surgeries

I am scheduled for a revision from sleeve to rny on 6/23. I had my sleeve 11 years ago, and have had severe reflux since then. Scared about having another surgery, but also afraid not to. My surgeon thinks he can get rid of 90% of my reflux or more. Been sleeping mostly in a recliner for the past 11 hrs due to the reflux (bile). Anyone else scheduled this month?
  20. Initially I was head set on the Sleeve. When my surgeon asked if I ever have GERD and I replied “yes, once in awhile”, he drew a picture of what happens when GERD takes place with Sleeve (increased pressure in a much smaller pouch, that raises serious discomfort, and risk of potentially serious esophageal damage.) He went on to say if your tests indicate serious reflux issues I WON’T perform Sleeve on you. If they show minor issues, I’ll do Sleeve if you still choose to, but caution you it may result in a revision up the road if GERD persists. I would much rather you go through WLS surgery once and not have to do it twice. He encouraged me to leave him, start the battery of testing and do more research. When I learned that RNY is still considered the Gold Standard of WLS, with the longest history of success, risks very low, slight potential for greater weight loss due to malabsorptive feature, my mind was well on its way to RNY. Three months out and No regrets, not at all. Challenges with both, but to be expected. Many Sleevers are very happy and have done amazing, too! It’s your personal makeup that, along with recommendations from your Dr. that will guide you. Mine is only one story. Good luck! I loved the excitement😃 and anticipation at the stage you’re in—-Enjoy the Journey!💖
  21. Have been visiting my Bariatric clinic initially for undergoing the Sleeve procedure, however with my last surgeon visit, he said he recommends that I get the Bypass. With the increase of GERD after Sleeve, and the numerous revisions from Sleeve to Bypass...he says if you'd like to avoid this in the future and save a surgery then it would be better just to do Bypass. WHOAH! Bypass seems to me like the most drastic procedure for the most severe cases (IDK, I get that sensation). My question to Sleevers: If you could do it again, would you choose Bypass? Does GERD really get that bad?

    Bruised

So I was revised 5/27. I’m feeling great... went to bed and awoke with a horrendous bruise on the left side of my belly button ... incision site. Didn’t have a bruise when I went to bed. It’s hard large and painful. Feels like a baseball underneath. All the others are greenish as it’s been over a week. I called the emergency service for my surgeon and his associate called me back. Just said if no fever it’ll be okay. ER if I want but with COVID unsure I wanna go but I had surgery and everything was impeccably clean. Maybe CITYMD. maybe it needs to be drained? 👩🏼‍⚕️

Dr. Matthew Weiner has a lot of informational videos on YouTube. He covers a wide range of topics, I’ve learned a lot by watching him. This first video on metabolic thermostat/set point was a lightbulb moment for me. How bariatric surgery changes your hunger, metabolism and even your tastes for certain foods. Metabolic Thermostat This one is titled: Bariatric revisions, Will they help or not? Bariatric revision As always, listen to your own Doctor

There is: go back to basics, counting calories along with a balanced food intake. Use a calorie counting app if that helps, set your profile to lose 1lb or 2lb per week...it will set calories based on your current weight, height, gender, incidental actiivities...give it a go for at least three to six months. If you are overeating due to emotional eating, look for activity based things to do that can replace the emotional eating. Angry go for a brisk walk or boxing class, stressed a soak in a relaxing bath, lonely or bored visit a friend or family member or even give volunteering a go. Maybe consider counselling if you aren't able to rein in the emotional eating. If it portion creep and your portion sizes have increased a lot, go back to using smaller plates and bowls so as to encourage smaller portions. You could also consider visiting a dietician for some guidance and/or consider a revision weight loss surgery.
