    February 2019 weight loss buds

I don't have a marco breakdown, but here's what I consumed yesterday. I am embarrassed about how much of my diet is coffee, but hey. Blue top milk coffee, barista style 1/2 Bullet coffee (butter + coconut oil added) 1/4 of a bill-tong bier-stick (regurgitated, only about 10g but my stomach sucks sometimes) A cheese stick An optifast shake A coffee with a little cream added Greek yogurt pot -- coffee and cacao nib A coffee with a splodge lacto-free milk (because that's all we had on hand) A couple bits of roast lamb... probably about 20g, and I felt sick afterwards. 500ml water *** I tend to stick to liquids on days when I feel super restricted, like yesterday. I KNOW I shouldn't be drinking so much coffee... but because sugary drinks (even low sugar drinks) are more or less out, coffee is, like, liquid heaven. It's also the middle of winter here - sun's down around 6 pm, it's cold, I've lost almost 100 pounds so I'm cold all. the. time. Aaaaaaannnd that's my list of excuses for how poor my diet is. Lol.
  2. @JanJan19 Lmao I read your cottage cheese post and decided not to ask if advancing a day or two early would kill me. I didn’t want to get scolded either. I mean if we were all great dieters most of us wouldn’t be here in the first place. JS. I made it to foods today without cheating except I added a little shredded cheese to my grits the last couple days, but yea, I hear you. And at some point those cream Soups and yogurt and shakes just make you want to hurl. I crushed my Protein goal today bc I added a Protein Shake snack. Do you know the next step? If you do you could cautiously try it or call your doc and let them know you feel you need to bc you’re so weak. It’s not a hard requirement for all vsgs to go so long on liquid but they may have their reasons.I would never have survived liquids without yogurt. I was eating 3 a day to avoid extra shakes. I can do a shake a day. Any more than that is too much thick sweet drink.
  3. Hi everyone. I had my r n y on May 22nd and was discharged the very next day. Everything was going well just the minimum pulling at the incision sites and soreness. About two weeks after surgery I woke up in the middle of the night with severe pain in my stomach and then began throwing up it scared me so bad because I was so worried about tearing something inside and my doctor is in San Antonio Texas miles away from here in Mississippi. I was just at the point of soft foods and was tolerating scrambled eggs and refried beans and yogurt. But slowly I am now not able to tolerate anything but liquids. I get this ball feeling in my chest like something is stuck a rock and it sliding up and down and then shortly after that I start throwing up. It's not food it's a very thick mucus. I have developed a severe UTI and was prescribed an antibiotic in liquid form but I can't even keep that down. The doctor said there is narrowing at a certain point after the surgery where the stomach connects to the small intestines and he said within a week or two it should dilate itself. Has anyone else experienced this? I sure hope it goes away. Sent from my LG-H910 using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. Girl, I barely made it a week on liquids. But also, listen to your doctor blah blah. I have no idea why yours specifically would be asking for a month of liquids. That sounds insane to me & I can only imagine how frustrated you are especially when we all have completely different instructions. My pre-op was no carbs for a week & then one day of liquids. My post op was 2 weeks of liquids: protein shakes, soups, liquid yogurt. I nearly lost my mind & I was freaking hungry & annoyed. I think I added cottage cheese around day 9 or 10 but I keep that on the down low because I mentioned it once here & a bunch of people went nuts on me. I think the next stage was puree, but my doctor had like all soft foods in there. Like meatloaf was okay. Potatoes, refried beans. I am trying to stay away from carbs so I wasn't real interested in adding those in. I went pretty much from liquids to: yogurt, ground beef, ground chicken, eggs, cheese. I'm 3.5 weeks out & for the most part that's all I'm eating, in some variation. Oh and quiche. I'm eating a lot of quiche with eggs, cheese & veggies. Measured into 4oz servings. Everyone is going to tell you to follow the plan and talk to your doctor, which is wise advice. But also very frustrating knowing that if you'd gone to another doctor across town they may very well have another plan entirely. This entire thing is so confusing to me. I've not eaten one thing that's disagreed with me thus far. I'm being careful, and like I said I have a fairly basic list of items I'm eating but I keep waiting for some of these side effects I'm hearing about because I feel nothing. I tried salmon this weekend. It was fine. Tried cucumber. Fine. I force myself to stay to 4oz & count every calorie, gram of protein and ounce of water. I've not been sick at all. Drinking (water) is a total breeze.
  5. My docter wants me to be on liquids for another 2 weeks my sleeve surgery was may 31st. The taste of protein drinks i just cant doo anymore. Id rather starve litterally. I added in protein yogurt today which wasnt that bad but can some one explain explain why liquids for so long? Doc says its too retrain your brain to dominate your hunger sensation........ thats why iam on liquids so long. It doesnt make sence to me. If my body is in starvation mode cuz i want to cry and starve than drink another protein shake wouldnt it be best to add it other puree protein to help me be more active in life than weak and tired. I dont think waiting 2 weeks is going to change this brain training will it. Does anyone understand this ???

    Dumping

I am 5 months post RNY and I get dumping. Can’t remember the first time I had it. Sometimes it’s because I’ve eaten something that’s not so healthy, sometimes it’s with a healthy food that I have been eating regularly. They are not always carbs, sometimes food such as yogurt triggers it. My dumping generally manifests as shakiness, palpitations and generally feeling weird. I do not get the runs which is what most people seem to think dumping is.
  8. This is something I have wondered about. Probably the easiest way to add in calories is to swap low fat varieties for full fat. So if you currently eat lf yogurt and milk try the full fat versions. Eat healthy fats like avocados and nuts etc. I have seen a number of posts on fb lately with photos of people that have got to a BMI of 18 and all the responses have been great, well done etc. What concerns me is that no one seems worried that for an adult a BMI of 18 is very low (even though it is technically in the healthy range). I think it would be very easy to become addicted to the high of losing weight and ignore the signs that a person may be getting too thin. I am glad that you are addressing this.
  9. Ooh how I envy you that! That is almost like a Cleopatra Couch, I need me one of them! Bring me a grape, gently peeled! And maybe some of that lucious Greek Yogurt you're holding!

    Food help!

I was in the hospital for 11 days with malnutrition status post RNY 6 weeks ago. I have an ulcer, and a stricture. I have TPN running all night at my home. I can finally start eating things that are soft. Any recommendations? I am so sick of yogurt, eggs and soups. Any good crockpot recipes that people tolerated well? I would appreciate all suggestions! This has not been an easy road for me.

    Work/Social eating

Congratulations and wishing you the very best of luck on your upcoming surgery. I would advise you to not schedule working lunches with your clients/friends for the first few months. You have to learn how to eat with your new stomach. It has happened to me a couple of times when I thought I was going to be fine, but still ended up being sick. It is very easy to get distracted. On your first month or so, you need to focus on what you're eating, to chew slow and to pay attention to what your stomach is saying...whether you're full or not. It was embarrassing that a couple of times, I had to excuse myself from the table and got super sick. Even though I can now enjoy the company of others on my lunch breaks, I now prefer to walk. well, maybe I go out with them once a week, but I really enjoy my "me" time. Lunches: I pack something light and easy to eat for lunch. Yogurt, Hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese, beef jerkies, grapes and cheese.... I notice I get full quickly with sandwiches or pasta, so I avoid them at work. I can also now eat chicken/tuna salads. Drinks: Water..water..water.. when we go out on the weekend, I am now able to drink up to 2 Michelob Ultra or 1 Vodka+diet coke. Good Luck

    Purées egg salad?

I do 1/4 mayo to 3/4 Greek yogurt. The mayo passes the flavor to the yogurt and you save on calories. Same for tuna salad and chicken salad, when you are ready.

    Purées egg salad?

    Full liquids!

I couldn't do shakes, so my second week consisted of high protein milk and yogurt. I used fairlife and YQ. I've seen a lot of people can't stomach it after surgery, so keep these in mind if you have problems. Good luck!

    Weak/tired/bloated

I’m on day 5 post op and I agree it is major surgery similar to what I experience having my gall bladder out or a c-section. I am doing things little by little and feeling better everyday but need to take tests in between and focus on healing and how my new stomach communicated with me. I’m on phase two which means I can introduce yogurt but I’m scared and still on liquid proteins. I don’t have hunger like I used to although my stomach does have another sensation that comes and goes... trying to figure out if it’s too much liquid, it’s empty or it’s just shocked I’m putting something in it:)

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I will go look for them. I thought Walmart carried the Premier clear but they didn’t have any. What’s the best place everyone is finding variety? I bought a ton of yogurt, soups and sugar free pudding. I’m so ready for my next step. I’ve been lucky I guess. Had very little nausea. No vomiting. Just some tightness when I go a little fast. Just some pain in my incisions LOL I have follow up Friday.

    The Maintenance Thread

Ms.sss, I'm nowhere near maintenance (2.5 weeks post-op) but love reading where everyone is at in their journey & so scanned this thread & now I've been thinking about it ALL DAY. I think you said it takes you an hour to eat a meal? And you're struggling to get above 800 calories? At 2.5 weeks it takes me 10 min to eat a meal and I could easily eat 1,000 calories. (I don't, because I'm trying to keep the calories as low as possible as long as possible). I guess I'm both fascinated that it takes you that long to eat & terrified of my own future if it's already this easy for me to eat this close to my surgery date. And I'm really curious what exactly you eat that takes an hour? Is it something dense? A half sandwhich? I I'm still in soft foods which are all so easy for me. Yogurt, eggs, veggies, ground meats, cheese. I can eat 4oz without issue. And I'm getting 65oz of water a day. I'm actually at 60oz of water & 600 calories today & it's only 6pm. I hope these questions don't sound rude because it's not my intention at all. I just can't get this off my mind. I scour these threads & see people saying they're 8 months out & can't get down a 1/4 cup of food & I'm like... maybe my surgeon only removed half my stomach because I am already more fine than I'd like to be. If that makes any sense at all.

    Restriction Feeling 2+ years out?

I'm almost 3 years out. I eat about 1500 calories a day because I work out like a maniac (I'm a nationally-competitive fencer in my age group so I work out either doing weight lifting or fencing 2 hours a day 6 days a week.) If I weren't working out like this, I'd probably eat about 1000 calories daily. Here's what my 1500 calorie days sort of look like Breakfast - Skyr Icelandic Greek Yogurt with Granola Factory Granola and 1/2 c. fresh strawberries Lunch - 4 ounces of protein (chicken usually) and about 2 cups of green salad stuff with 1 tablespoon of dressing Afternoon snack - Protein shake made with A2 milk, handful of frozen tropical fruit and protien powder Then I usually have my workout from 6-8 or 7-9. Dinner - 4 ounces protein and a serving of a green vegetable. Sometimes, I'll add a carb - like half a baked potato. I vary what I eat with the following macros - 115g protein, 115g carbs. I can usually eat no more than 4-5 ounces of protein at any given time and then I'm not hungry for a while. If i have eggs in the morning, I'll scramble 2 eggs with a bit of taco cheese and have one piece of whole grain toast. My stomach still makes it very clear when I over-eat. Your mileage may vary.

    The Maintenance Thread

but don't understand (the week when I was at 1000/day, I lost 2.5 lbs?? 1000 calories is still your weight loss calories. 2.5 loss is because your body needs more calories. See article below. https://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20140529/fast-weight-loss-may-mean-muscle-loss What are your fat percentages? I consume enough calories to build muscle mass. my body fat percentage is in the 19-24 zone. I'm athletic in the fit/lean zone. do you put any importance on this statistic to yourselves, personally? I put importance on my goal of healthy. I don’t pay attention to my body fat percentage. Many of us lose muscle with rapid weight loss. There is a difference between a low body fat percentage with burnt muscle and with muscle mass. My personal experience after goal, I continued to exercise and not consume enough calories. The result was I burnt muscle and dropped to the 120’s. June 2019 sleevers

Good luck tomorrow! I just had mine on 5/23 & honestly - it's been great. First 24 hours were way more painful than I expected. Everything else has been easier than I expected. The day after when they finally gave me fluids, it was not hard to get them down. I did the 2oz sipped. Watched the clock and paced myself, but easy. The first 2 weeks of nothing but soups I was climbing the walls. I'm literally... 18 days post op and no complications. I can easily easily drink. I woke up this morning & probably drank 8oz in one sip. I'm being careful to never drink at least 30 min past eating & have made it a personal challenge to get down 65oz of just water per day, but it's not been hard. Liquids go down super easy for me. Meals, 4oz. I'm eating eggs, ground meats, yogurts. A lot of quiche - eggs and cheese & veggies. I've also had no issues whatsoever with swallowing any pills.
  25. I hate the fake sweeteners too. I’ve started adding a little garlic powder, salt and pepper to Fage 2% plain Greek yogurt and it’s a nice break from sweet. But oh man, do i was some eggs and cottage cheese! Hang in there!!
