    Chicken Pizza..Yummy!!!

CHICKEN PIZZA 1 boneless chicken breast, about 5 1/2 ounces Dash Italian seasoning Dash garlic powder Dash salt Toppings: 1 tablespoon pizza sauce 1/2 ounce pepperoni, 8 thin slices 1/2 large fresh mushroom, sliced thin, 1/2 ounce 1 ounce Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled 1 ounce mozzarella cheese, shredded 2 tablespoons green pepper, minced, 1/2 ounce 1 tablespoon red onion, minced, 1/4 ounce Pound the chicken as thin as possible without tearing it. Season both sides of the chicken with the seasonings and place it on a foil-lined baking sheet. Spread the pizza sauce on the top of the chicken. Arrange the remaining topping ingredients in this order: pepperoni, mushrooms, sausage, cheese, peppers and then the onions. Lightly sprinkle with a little more Italian seasoning and garlic powder. Bake at 400º 10 minutes. Do not overcook. Makes 1 serving Per Serving: 438 Calories; 23g Fat; 51g Protein; 4g Carbohydrate; 1g Dietary Fiber; 3g Net Carbs This is very similiar to my Pizza Chicken but with this recipe the chicken acts more like a pizza crust. By pounding it very thin, I got a lot more surface area to cover with yummy pizza toppings. Since the baking time is very short, the peppers and onions stay a little bit crunchy. That's why it's important to mince them fine or they'll be a little too crisp after baking. And yes, the chicken will be cooked through in just 10 minutes. The Pizza Chicken is a bit more elegant looking but I think that this version gives you more pizza flavor in every bite. The arrangement of the toppings is such that it helps keep everything in place. If you can afford an additional carb, go ahead and add another ounce of cheese. I used just enough to hold the toppings in place but who doesn't like even more cheesy goodness? Click the photo to see a close-up.

    Gall Bladder

Major weight loss often leads to gall bladder problems. I had a double whammy. I lost 100 pounds AND had strong genetic disposition to gall bladder problems. All of my mothers siblings (male and female) had their gall bladders removed (with my mother eight in all!). This was preband when I was 19. I have a high pain threshold and the pain is horrific.

    Discomfort with drinking and eating

I had bypass 10/21. I can drink comfortably with no problem. At first it would take me hours to drink a protein shake, now I can drink a premier protein in about 30-40 minutes. Some days I prefer something flavored like propel and other days just plain H2O. My program does not allow rice, bread, pasta or quinoa. They have more low carb/paleo program.

  6. I had my surgery Tuesday August 6th at 1:30. Well my surgeon was late so I didn't get in to surgery till almost 5. I don't remember anything after bing wheeled into the O R, I remember all the nurses after trying to take care of me. But mostly sleeping till Wednesday morning. My nurse was trying to get me to drink my liquids. And I was trying but everything I took in I threw up and then some. They had to give me everything by I.V. I couldn't keep ANYTHING down. The surgeon came in later on Wednesday and told me that I was probably all swollen. And my saliva was filling my pouch. And anything else I put in was overflowing it. So for the rest of Wednesday I took nothing by mouth. Then Thursday I was scared to try to swallow anything but I took a couple of spoons of broth and sips of water and it stayed down. But I wasn't taking as much as they wanted so the kept me for another day. I had no other pain. None of my incisions were painful and I had no gas pains at all. I was up everyday walking all over the hospital. Didn't have pain when i got up or sat down. My nurse came in and took out my staples on friday afternoon, i had 19 all together. Put some sterile strips on them and dr prescribed me my meds and now i am home and doing just fine.

    Back pain

Keep us updated! I hope it's not that for you too! A problem with my gallbladder is now my newest biggest fear. I'm so worried it's gonna cause me problems and I'm gonna need to get it out. I was abruptly taken off of the medication the Surgeon prescribes to lessen the risk of gallstones a few days ago. I may be allergic to it. Soooooooooo now I wait and see if I miraculously pull thru without problems or not. I hear that if you pass the 9-12 month mark without any gallbladder issues, that you're most likely in the clear. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong) So I have 7-10 months to wait and see!
  9. Having my surgery 10/10! Excited and nervous

    gastric bypass more effective?

statistically speaking, you'll lose more with bypass than you will with sleeve, but it's only about a 5% difference. Plus an average is just an average - you'll find people who fall on either side of the average. There are people who are extremely successful with both surgeries - and people who fail with both surgeries. 14 lbs is a lot. You may lose that the first three or four months, depending on a whole host of other factors (sex, age, metabolic rate, activity level, starting BMI, etc), but weight loss slows down a lot after that. I started at well over 300 lbs. I lost 16 lbs the first month, maybe 12 or so lbs a month for a couple of months after that, then I think around 10 lbs a month until I was about 7 months out, and then 5-8 lbs a month until I got about a year out. After that, things really slowed down until it finally stopped at around 20 months out. P.S. With your starting BMI, your weight loss isn't going to be really speedy. You WILL lose it if you're committed to your program, but 14 lbs a month is overly optimistic for someone at your weight. Most of us start out much heavier.
  12. You know, days like that are just going to happen, I think. You just have to dust yourself off, and do better tomorrow. Or better still, make up for it at dinner. Just have a light dinner, and maybe go for a walk or something. Get the kids out of the house and make them walk around the block with you. For me, Doc told me at my initial consult in the first week of October that he wanted to see me lose 5-10 lbs in the 3 months of pre-op. I'd accomplish this mostly by cutting out the liquid calories, including milk. Skim milk. MILK?!? Okay fine. Well, then I'm going all in. I set up my food tracker goal to stay under 1800 cal/day. Most days, I'm between 1000 and 1400. Every couple of week though, I'll have a day - a meal - where I just don't give a F and I'm going to enjoy that burger at Five Guys. I skip the fries, but still, that meal wrecks my goal for the day. No biggie though, because on my worst week - Thanks giving week I didn't even bother weighing in, but the week after - I was net zero from two weeks before. No loss. No gain. I could live with that. One of the reasons I don't care about the occasional Burger day is because I know that after being Sleeved, that won't even be an option. Another reason is because I've lost over 25 lbs in the time the doc wanted 5-10. I really want to do this. I think it's my best chance at long-term success. If I get denied though, plan B is to just keep doing what I'm doing. My point of this statement? Don't let this goal hinge on something outside of your control, like finances. Get busy.

    In my head

Yep put the scale away, I weight every 3 weeks and every month I lose 10 lbs. in December I decided to freak out and worry, I weighed myself everyday for 2 weeks, not a bit of weight loss, not a bit!!! I put the scale in the closet, continued to eat correctly and exercise and on January 1st another 10 lb's gone. During the month while I am not weighing myself my clothes continue to get bigger and we eat so little it just happens. The same will happen for you & yes, I felt like you my first few weeks. This is going to be so fun for you as you start to shrink.

    7 months and a size....what

@@Kathy812 I have had most of my weight drop in the first few month's. It was dropping about 10-15 pounds and it has slowed down now. Exercise was a requirement at first for me. It changed into something that makes me feel good and I take my stress out at the gym. ( I no longer cope with stress by eating) Exercise before surgery was none. After surgery I walked 30 minuets on my treadmill about 3 day's a week. With the weight coming off I was able to up my walking to an hour about 5 days a week. At three months out my treadmill became boring. I sold it on craigslist and bought a gym membership. At four months I was at the gym for an hour doing cardio. I switch up my cardio so my body does not get the chance to hold on to the weight long. (elliptical machine, lateral machine and jogging on a treadmill) I pushed up the resistance as I got stronger. I also added weight lifting three days a week for a half hour. What a difference. I have found that not only do i exercise because I physically can. Now it is something I love. (who knew) I am working with my trainer at the gym. I still do an hour of cardio. I am also lifting for an hour 3 days a week. I completed a 10K now working up to a half marathon. I kayak and snow shoe. I love to stay active. Find activities you have fun doing. Also find what motivates you. If you enjoy music get a good play list while you work out. Plenty of fitness websites and app's to look into for Ideas. I hope you are surprised by what you're body is able to do. If you have time check back in. I would love to see how things progress for you.

    Protein Question

Post op I didn't tolerate the shakes well, just too sweet. I'm 4 months post op and my main protein before back on normal food was 10 oz 1% milk + 1 scoop genepro flavorless protein powder (30+ grams of protein). Still my go to when I need protein.

    liver shrinking diet x 2

hi friends, I have been on my liver shrinking diet since last tuesday, I started off trying the milk n yoghurt diet but after running to the loo at tea time decided to do the food diet like last time, I have lost 10lb in 5 days, I will get weighed tomorrow and it could be more, I had put 6lb on since christmas, so am pleased to have got that off and a good start to being near to my 19 stone goal for the day of my op. I am finding the diet much easier this time and i think this is because i am having 2 eggs srambled on one slice of dry brown toast for the first meal of the day. I have a salad for lunch, 1 soya yoghurt and 1 apple at teatime and veg n lean meat cooked in my slow cooker for evening meal, i have being having 800 cals, 1 day i had 995, and lots of nas squash, tea with soya milk allowance. I am having mixed emotions this time, last time i was excited all the time, but as it was cancelled and 7 months later back on, until i wake up and they tell me it is done, I won't let myself be too excited. I know God is with me and my trust is in him, really hope i continue to be so positive and have no fear on the day, ive worked hard and waited 2 years 7 months for this, many friends are praying for me, thanks be to God, will write again before my op, x I know this is what i want and God is with me, its the natural feelings i have to ignore, and i will be so happy when i wake up to find its done. How i feel at the moment I would have it tomorrow.
  20. Me too.... I'm on day 10 and start full liquids today. Musshies start in another 10 days and 'normal' foods at 28 days post op.

    Great Cookbook

I have a cookbook from my mother-in-law that is awesome! It is called "Lean and Luscious." The edition I have is from 1987, but I know they have updated it and you can find it on Amazon.com. I have dog-eared about 50 of the 400 recipes that I have either tried or am going to try. Since we focus a lot on Protein, sometimes we don't get in our veggies and the like. Here is a sample recipe that I made the other night that was really, really good: Baked Squash - Southern Style 2 10 oz. pkgs. frozen yellow summer squash 1 TBS minced onion flakes 2 TBS + 2 tsp reduced calorie margarine (Smart Balance) 2 egg whites Sweetener equiv. to 1 1/2 tsp sugar 1/2 tsp salt 1/8 tsp pepper 3 TBS dry bread crumbs Preheat oven to 350. Cook squash according to directions, drain and place in a bowl and mash well. Add onion flakes, 2 TBS of the margarine, egg whites, sweetener, salt, pepper and 1/2 the crumbs. Mix well. Pour into 1 qt. baking dish that has been sprayed well and sprinkle with remaining crumbs. Dot with remaining margarine. Bake, uncovered, for 45 minutes, or until set and lightly browned. 90 calories, 4g protein, 4g fat, 10g carbs (based on 4 servings)

    Dr. Spiegels fills

I had a fill on Monday at Dr. Spiegel's office. My appt was 3:00 and I saw him at 3:50. The room was filled with about 30 people. He makes you drink a bottle of Water, which you bring with you, before you can leave. I had asked for an extended office visit, but of course that wasn't in the cards. However, I just had my say. I have very difficult fills and don't react for 6-10 days after a fill. He thought my case was unusual and looked to me like he was just tollerating my story. Anyway, he decided to give me only .2, like I was going to let him give me anymore. Unfortunatley, if you want to get anywhere with him or his office you just have to be tough. You have to take charge of your own care. I hope I don't have a reaction to this fill, because an unfill for me would spell disaster. Since I can't tollerate much more than .2 or .3, it would take me a very long time to get back to where I was before the complete unfill. I will definitely fight that. His office staff are just overworked and not knowledgeable. I don't think he has a clue how bad his office staff really is. At least I want to believe that. Well, we'll just have to see how this goes. He said he gave the surgicenter a year to get it right and they couldn't, so he isn't letting them touch his patients. That's all I know for now. Good luck everyone.

    Travel advice

In 9 days I'm leaving for Europe on a trip with my daughter. We are going to Germany, Poland, and Czech Republic. We will be there for 10 days. I'm really worried about meeting my protein goals each day. We will be with a tour group of approximately 40 people. I don't feel like we will have a lot of flexibility in where our when we eat. Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to make sure I still meet all my nutritional goals while traveling?
