Beautyandbeyond replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My NSVs at this stage: 1. Only 30lbs lost and intimacy has become waaaay fantastic 2. Knees not hurting walking up stairs 3. Clothes are very baggy 4. Some smaller clothes look amazing on me again 5. Back not hurting as much when I wake up in the am 6. I can cross my legs cross cross applesauce style 7. My curves are noticeable again! More to come I'm sure :-) -
wow Suzanne! sounds like a great running partner very encouraging...but he had awesome material to work with!!! i'm very psyched for you! well i did w7d1 lst nite. my distance was shorter for some reason. i did feel my feet dragging a bit during the run. it was kinda weird though. I felt more competant with the run ...less winded and definitely not as lightheaded at the end. so mixed results i guess. im actually looking forward to the next run on Sat i hope. Or, should i take 1 additional day to rest, wondering if i need a little extra time to recover??? anyway had a revelation of sorts last nite too. after i run i have a hard time with my band when i eat. it seems that every time i run i get stuck badly very soon after i start eating. and yes, i was following the band rules for eating. i called my bari nurse ths morning and she said that since the stomach/esophagus are muscles, i should drink something warm before eating, again following my doc's band instructions regarding drinking/eating. she said the warm liquid can help relax the esophagus in particular. then she gave me a very nice NSV. she really complimented me on running and gave me lots of encouragement! tc, Carol

I really am all or nothing. That is why cahllenges like this help me so much, because if you can just give me a good reason to do something I am all on it. I have a NSV. After my run tonight I decided to see how it compared to my last 5 mile run prior to PS. I wanted to see how much I need to improve before I am at my prerace condition. Here are my numbers Run Date 10/09/08 1/06/09 Distance 5.02 miles 5.01 miles Time 53 min 10 sec 53 min 11 sec Avg Mile 10 min 34 sec 10 min 36 sec Cal Burn 646 644 How cool is that. I guess I didn't lose much ground during my recovery. I must say, however, it seems much harder now than before. Tonight i grilled salmon and made a most yummy salad for supper. It was wonderful. Now if I could only be my "all" self all of the time. I guess I will just enjoy it while it lasts.

I hit 50# this AM...time for a treat, maybe a new shirt or a SF NF Decaf Starbucks (pricey colored water) Last couple of days I decided to get a couple new pairs of pants. I have to put on 2-3 pairs each morning to find one that will fit, then 1/2 way through the day that pair is hanging. I had to go to the regular women's department!!! I actually had to stop myself from gravitating to the Plus department...those clothes don't fit!!! NSV...My DH (160# soaking wet) sat down on the edge of the bed last night and the side rail (oak) broke (I couldn't help it, I had to giggle). If it would have been me I would be sure it was my fat old butt, I would have felt soooo defeated...but it wasn't me!!! :whoo: LOL LOL LOL

I was way less afraid of those things, which, afterall are easily rectified by removing the band, than I was of major major surgery and having my insides re-routed. Being a relatively modest BMI of 35 meant that that option would probably not be available to me anyway, if they did gastric bypass in Australia anymore. I also dont care to lose a ton of weight in a very short amount of time, look like a corpse and have a problem with loose skin. I love love love my band. I am living a completely normal life, just one in which I eat a bit less. I eat way less junk, but I eat out, I eat with family, I sometimes eat yummy things for a treat, I can exercise (I've started running again, a MAJOR NSV for me), its simply the best thing I ever did. If I should lose it one day due to a complication, well I guess I'll face that when I come to it. I think I would see how I went without it for a while - I only have 1.3 ml in my band and no real restriction, much of what I've achieved has come from conscious behaviour modifcation. I'd have to say the band's major influence on my has been psychological - I dont expect to fail, therefore I dont.

It's so good to hear how the Feb. Bandsters are doing! Congratz on the work everyone has done! My current update: I'm pleased to be down 30 pounds now, from my high of 252. My first fill didn't give much restriction, but then I wasn't expecting it to, it's all part of the process. I'm sticking to my diet and exercise - I do 1-2 miles on my treadmill everyday. I think this is really helping to keep my metabolism burning. If I diet only, I just don't lose. My next fill isn't until the end of this month, I'm hoping to get out of the 220's before then (I'm close!). The weather here in Michigan is changing, no more snow *hopefully*! I can't wait to get outside and plant my gardens and work in the yard. Some good NSV's for me - I saw my PCP a few days ago, and she cut my blood pressure medication in half! Woot! I'm also off a sleep medication and sleeping just fine without it . . . it's good to see the medications go! Yes! My 2x clothes no longer fit me . . . way to baggy, and I'll now have to go through my closets and dig out the 1x's. I'd also like to go shopping for some new stuff, but I don't want to over-do it. I can't wait to get out of the plus sizes for good . . . I'll get there yet! I have a goal of getting to onederland before this summer (July when we go on vacation) . . . that's 22 pounds, I'm hoping I can do it. Gonna try hard! ReadySteadyGo - I'm a worrier too, lol. I'm pleased with this weight loss I've done, but for some reason today I'm feeling anxious. I've been on diets before where I've lost, and I'm just paranoid this is all gonna come back. I'm thankful I have the band to fall back on - hopefully it will keep me on track, and the next fill will give me some restriction . . . but at the same time I want to do this slowly, and I don't want my doctor to get aggressive with fills (not saying he will, I'll have to wait and see at my next appointment). I'd rather go slowly than get too much and get sick and have to back for an un-fill. (see I am a big worrier :blushing:). Anyway . . . sorry to be chatty and make a long post . . . that's about it for me, just hanging in there and looking forward to Spring and Summer! Please keep in touch Feb bandsters, it's great to be able to share this lapband journey with all of you - you all are inspiring and special! Just Keep Swimming! :cursing:

Great work on the mileage! Truly inspirational. Keep taking measurements. Stay the course. The pounds will fall off eventually. You're doing so well. I'm pleased to see you are using various methods to measure your success. (We call those Non-Scale Victories--aka NSV's) I think you're about 3 months post-surgery, give or take. You're going through the exact same things I did at that point. Give it time. Keep up the outstanding work! It will happen.....keep us posted. Happy New Year!! -

KCG--How many calories are on this diet your on? Astrasmom-- Yay for only 10 pounds! I think your Dr is right, about the exercise. I personally think that is why the band statistics are like they are, the band helps with about half and exercise does the rest. Txcloverangel-- My twin! 91 pounds is great! Major NSV yesterday. I technically have 5 pounds to go but when I had the surgery in my mind I thought: If I can get to and stay a size 10 I will be satisfied, if I can be a size 8 I would be happy, if I could get to a size 6 I would be thrilled. I thought a size 6 would be best case scenario. Yesterday I bought 2 pair of size 4 Levi's. I cant believe it. I have not worn a size 4 since I was 19 or maybe 20. (I will be 41 next month) I was scared to try on the size 6's because I knew I would be disappointed if they didn't fit, then they were too big! Unbelievable. I am going to get my husband to take a picture of me later today wearing them and post it. No matter what you do, do not underestimate the power of exercise. During the last 10 years I have lost down to this weight with diet pills and Adkins but I was never even close to this size. -
WOW Angel size 10!!!!!! An amazing NSV Congrats

:wink2:Tina, YOU GO GIRL!!! I'm so impressed with your attitude! that we could all be so determined, I'm sure you will get there. I don't know if you can get too much, don't think so but never thought of it! why not have one with less mix? or have slimfast or someother kind of shake or fruit smoothie? I'm sure there are other options at this point. you should be on full liquids, which is far more interesting. I think the unjury is 20 grams/serving. I just realized I have a NSV! I just made the 100 lb. total loss! from my high of course, not since the band. But it all counts for me. My honey was just marveling at the changes in my body as we first met 80 lbs. ago! I still can't figure how I snagged her at that wt. 14 years ago. -
Hey guys! Hope you are having a wonderful Halloween Friday! I have an NSV and wanted to share. I had a great run today and I finished my 5K in 38:30. I've improved by about 6 1/2 minutes in 6 weeks. Not bad! I know I could do a lot better because I made that time doing my jog/sprint routine. If only I would push myself everyday to do better! Anyway, I'm happy with it for now! I'm going to shower and go find a face painting kit for myself for tonight. I'm feeling flashy today, so I think I'll go with something glittery! Have fun everyone and be safe!!!

Edd, I love you NSV. It's fantastic. I hope to be a copy cat and make it mine too. I've made plans to do something similar. My banded friend and I are going to an amusement park the 4th of July weekend. No kids, no partners. Just us former fatties, enjoying the ride which we haven't ridden on since high school. I'm super excited. -

I have a great NSV. My daughters class was going on a trip and I was a chaperone. We ordered shirt for the group and I ordered myself a large. Which is a huge victory in itself. The day the shirts came she brought mine home and told me that mine was one of the only large shirts and everyone else was either an XL or 2XL. I couldn't be happier. I wore it for the trip yesterday and it was even a bit big. Loving my sleeve. Down 95 lbs since 1/16. 35 more to goal. -
I had a couple NSV tonight. I want to a class at my church and ran into an old friend (hadn't seen in 15 years). I got a "you look great...haven't changed" if she only knew. I love the idea that I'm back where I was 15 years ago! Oh, and I sat in the meeting and crossed my legs...1st time in 14 years (before my last baby).

Ya'll I vote for a Avenger's Cruise! We'd get all kinds of cabana boys, shows, pools, beaches...it'd be awesome! I didn't mention the food - but food (ah, my weakness in life). Bea - I'm like you, big boobs, small waist and big hips. I was blessed with an hourglass (nothing like tootin' my own horn, when you got it flaunt it baby!). I'll never ever be skinny. I'd kill to have a Sophia Loren figure - or something close. I hope you enjoy your girls night out! I agree with mom - don't worry about the blowup. DH and I had a HUGE fight Monday night. He decided I couldn't go to the gym in the mornings. HE DECIDED!! Hell no. I'm not anybodys puppet. For 8 years I got the girls up, made breakfast, got ready, got them ready for the bus, double checked everything...well, it is now an inconvenience for him. They dress themselves, eat breakfast at school. All he has to do is get them up and out the door. URRGGHH I was so mad at him! He said that EVERYONE was happy when I went at night to the gym. I wouldn't get home until 8:00. I then had to cook dinner, help with homework, do some laundry, give the girls their baths, get them to bed. All of this by 9:00. NO WAY!!! Then of course I had to clean the house, dry the laundry, fold it, get my lunch ready for the next day, have sex with him and try to go to sleep. OK I'm ranting now...sorry. It seems to him I was happy with this arrangement. WTH??? I'm not superwoman! Mornings are so much better...for obvious reasons. He has since changed his mind. I haven't been that mad in a LONG time. Mom - go to Walmart and try a couple of things on to find out your size (just the tops - I wouldn't try on the bottoms, no telling what you might catch). Then go online and order you something! DH loves cut-offs and tight T-Shirts (You can tell we're southern - lol)...he likes those more than anything fancy. Of course he loves high heels too! Nurse - that's an AWESOME NSV!! You go with your sexy self!

nice to see a familiar "face" on here, very happy for you, and jealous!!! the last time I was on a ride was 98 lbs ago:embaressed_smile:. it was the "merry mixer" and the bar was so tight across me it wouldn't allow the catch to release. it was very embaressing especially when the kid had to get the maintance man to get me out. I nearly died. My kids were little so I don't think they were aware of the real problem. now 25 years later I'm too chicken! I have this fear that the ride will break and all this will be for nothing. I may have to rethink that . My NSV I guess is I only got 2 more lbs. to go to hit my 100 lb. loss ( from my top wt. of course!) -

Good morning ladies. So I was lying in bed the other night and my port felt really weird - almost like it was sideways or something...the next morning, that area felt a bit sore, so I wasn't sure if I had done something - so I called the doc and they had me come in yesterday - it's all fine AND I got a very small fill (.5 cc - this was my 3rd fill since being banded). The doc was very happy with my progress and actually said my weight was fine and I didn't need to lose anymore (which was a nice NSV) - but I'm still aiming to be a normal BMI (which means losing another 14 pounds to put me at the high end of normal). Anyway - I'm hoping this fill will help me lose these last pounds. I will say I guess I haven't really known what restriction felt like because I've never quite had this experience. I can normally drink my water really fast and haven't had to think about the size of my sips or anything - now it seems to be very slow going down and I can't take big gulps - I'm hoping this is just a little swelling or something and that this part eases up because I'm used to drinking a lot and quickly (especially when working out)....I hope everyone has a great weekend. -

It's been over 9 months and I'm just now getting up the guts to post before and afters. Right now my scale is broken but I know I'm over 60 lost. I still have 100 to go but today I had a HUGE NSV. I went to buy some new carpi's for work and before surgery I wore 28's (tight) 30/32's. Today I grabbed a 26 and too big. 24...too BIG! I bought 22's!!!! I can't remember the last time that happened. It's been over 10 years since I fit 22's!!! My shirts are still bigger because I carry my weight around my mid section, but I can now shop for shirts at lane bryant again. Anyways, I figured it's time to post some pic's. I finally see a difference! Thanks to everyone for being so inspiring! Love you all! First pic was taken a few days prior to surgery and the second was taken tonight! -

Sounds like we all getting fills now, finally! I am getting my 4th teeny tiny .25 cc. fill tomorrow but I do feel like I am getting close to the green zone. My appetite is getting less and I get full faster which is a good thing. It still makes no sense to me how we eat 900-1000 calories a day and are not loosing tons of weight. That's normal in our situation I guess but it sure can be frustrating. Catherine, I hope that fill goes well for you and your weight loss continues. Chick, keep us posted. Hoe are you doing now? Jess, chicken is not good to me either. Ms lady, let us know how it goes. Cake girl, have that appetizer, you can do it and stay on program. It is so hard to watch others eat isn't it? Bobrocky, maybe saltines explode when they go down. LOL Glad you are feeling some restriction. Hope the next time it goes down easier. Ctarintina, 30 lbs is amazing. Keep up the good work. Caryn, good job. Keep it up. Helathywoman, I can't wait to see those 180's. Good job. Did anyone get much snow or loose their electricity? My youngest lives in NY in Sunnyside and they got a few inches. Chich, I thought of you. Stay warm. I had a few NSV's today at church. 3 people asked me how I was loosing weight and said I looked good. I'm at 19 lbs and I've always heard it takes at least 15 lbs for anybody to notice. I said exercise and counting calories, which is true. I have not told many people yet about my lapband. I will when I loose a lot more weight. I just don't want people watching me and asking how I am doing or like some of your experiences of asking why I have not lost more weight. How is everybody else dealing with telling people about your lapband? Keep those reports coming about your fills, unfills and victories. You never know when it's just the thing someone else needed to hear to help them. Have a great week, stay warm and on program. We can do this! Blessings, GG

Well....I am pretty sure it has been a month since I was last here. I went for fill four yesterday. I thought fill three was pretty bad. Well fill four has me TIGHT!! I wll truely have to do the liquid, mush and slow solids. I have lost another 4 pounds but better than that I am in a size 16 jeans. So my NSV is more exciting. Hoping and praying all are doing well and have a very Merry Christmas!!
