@@10/6/14 i really don't have any hobbies i am not a big reader if/when i watch the tube - thats a trigger i volunteer at the hospital twice a week i have no desire to eat their so that keeps me /busy/preoccupied believe it or not........... on an occasion when/if i'm feeling so frustrated/scared wanting to eat i go to bed early 27 lbs down keep up the good job kathy congrats

My first checkup was great...this week I checked my weight, and I'm only down a pound (25 total for the entire journey). I wanted more, but then, that's my personality. :biggrin: I want it gone yesterday ...now that I can see the end of the 'obese life' I want it to be done and over with so I can get on with the new, healthy life I've planned for myself. Realistically, it will probably take the better part of a year. :biggrin: I'm shooting for a healthy 10 pound loss per month - I feel it's doable if I watch my calorie count and work out like I know I should. Winter is tough - my walks outside are getting a little harder due to weather. The only do-or-die walk I take is with my dog every morning. He can't take a day off - that's when he does his 'business'...and he's a great reason for me to get off my lazy duff and get out the door, no matter what. I do like the gym - that's one of my saving graces...even when I was younger, and eating WAAAY too much, I had the gym and physical activity to help keep me under some semblance of control. :thumbup: When I stopped being that active was when the weight really came on. That, and having children. I was heavy when I got pregnant with my son Ron, but only gained 15 pounds under doctor's advice. My son weighed over 9 1/2 lbs, so I did really well. Of course sitting around at home and gaining 50 lbs after he was born did NOT help...:eek: Now I'm dealing with the head hunger, but it's getting a little better every day. I've transitioned out of mushies and am getting slowly acclimatized to "regular" food again. I still don't do well with sandwiches, and I think I'm still drinking too much during the meal - though it's way down from what I used to do. It's a process, and I've got to be patient with myself. I have currently lost more weight since beginning this process than at any time in the previous 5 years...I've got to remember that, and not be too hard on myself.:wub: I decided on this process BECAUSE it did not promise "instant" results and BECAUSE I had more control over the process. Now I just have to relax a bit and let the process continue to work for me...

How much to they put in on the 1st fill

Depends on the doctor. That isn't unrealistic; my husband has a 10 cc band and got 4 cc for his first fill.

hey tapshoes, that sounds like a good plan. i actually took my time with this as well. i waited till i got to goal. in fact i was underweight when i went to see the PS May '08 and they asked me to put on 10 lbs. (i wanted to put fat into my bootie) 1 year later i had the surgery and i actually switched surgeon's about 4 mos before i did the surgery. i didnt think the skin around my waist bothered me as much as it did. i only realize it now that it is gone how much better my clothes fit. i also did my boob lift as a secondary operation (TT was main priority) my biggest thrill are my boobs. i can actually go without a bra (i dont do it but i can) for the first time in my life. i love having perky ones. so i say do your research but dont let age stop you. i feel better now then i did in my 30's or 40's keep us posted and let us know if you need any help josie p.s. i will post my before/after pics soon. i dont know how to do it and need my nephew to help me

Is this normal being painful after a fill?

I had my surgery August 23rd. My first fill was Tues November 16th. I was told to do liquids for 2 days and then food as tolerated. While doing liquids I had 5 episodes where I had BP. 3 were while I was drinking my protein slowly, 1 was on OJ and the other 1 was when I took a vitamin. I called the doctor and they told me to come in and have some saline removed. Last night and this morning I was doing great and had no problems getting anything down so I was second guessed going to the docs office today. Around 10:00 I attempted to try real food so I had some eggs. Because the band is tighter in the morning I had a protein shake for breakfast and was going to do eggs as a snack. Well I took a very small bite of the eggs chewed it up real well and swallowed. It was atleast 15 till I was able to take another bite because it felt like the eggs were stuck. I took another bite, but was afraid of BP'ing because I could feel the eggs in my throat and it was starting to get painful. About an hour later I started to drink some water because the pain started to go away. Now I am scared to eat anything. I thought I was suppose to feel full in my belly with the band not like food was stuck in my throat and it was painful. Is this the way the band is suppose to make you feel or does it sound like it is overfull? Any suggestions would be helpful. If I dont have the saline removed today I wont be able to do anything about it till after Dec 8th because of Thanksgiving and vacation.

Liquid diet? how much should i buy?

Unless you know which brands you love, I would buy in very small quantities. As for how much.... Right after surgery, I was on 3 shakes / day. I did more like two. (I believe this lasted 10 days?) Then, for a week I had 2 shakes + 1 soft meal.

I have been a nurse for over 10 years. I don't work in med surg, but in a clinic doing patient ed and teaching on diabetes, weight loss, etc. At least my patients have not ever looked at me like it was crazy I was talking to them about these things, but I felt it. I too have been asked when my baby is due and I tell them 4 years ago (when my last daughter was born!). Congrats to you on your degree and on making the decision!

My dr was Dr Monash, his team has been wonderful! I was sleeved 4/10/12 and although I am still recovering, making lifestyle changes and trying to figure out my true size of stomach I wouldn't have changed anything. My friend had Dr Galvin and heard he was good too. Dr Monash speaks to me personally anytime I have a question and is always there to talk without feeling rushed.

I am coming up on 1 year. It was more hard in the first few weeks /months than it is now. New habits are formed. New eating techniques, food choices, going to the gym, etc. Practice makes perfect! It becomes a normal day to day way of life. I am being totally honest when I say there are days I don't even think about the band. Weight loss has slowed, but I am within 10 lbs of my goal. As long as I am not gaining and still moving in the same direction.

Yes, just quit birth control. I have PCOS and have only had one period per year for the last 15+years. Last baby was conceived using all the fertility methods known to man. I'm 127 lbs down and 10 months out. I'm also 11 weeks pregnant with twins! No fertility meds. I have had a regular 28-30 day cycle since the first month after surgery. Good luck ladies. This surgery is a miracle in more than one way!

The first couple weeks are hard but the last 10 days have been good. I am still eating Soups & soft foods, watching my Protein intake, etc. Down 30lbs and my clothes don't feel the same.

I have had that surgery. Don't beat yourself up. Get as much bed rest as possible walk when ur up to it. Ur body needs rest to heal. That's major. Ur not going to get out of control with weight. If others are cooking for u put ur food order in. Get ur protein as much as possible an b careful of the sugar. My nut says no more then 10 grms per serving so u can still have sugar just b careful. Balanced diet. It took me along time to recover from that. U will b emotional. I was 32 when I had mine. Don't worry about weight right now. Focus on healing. Sounds like u have already conquered the weight! ! Congrats an b proud of that. I got to where the numbers on scales started to affect how I judged myself ..pat on my back or I really beat myself up. I am 7 wks post sleeve. .I'm feeling pretty awesome of my accomplishments right now..Hang in there. Get well....

Fills & Nausea

At what point did you make goal?

A desired goal is an arbitrary number. It is a goal. I hit my minimum weight at 7 months and was stable for almost a year. Then I lost 10 more pounds. Many months went by and now I have lost a few more below that new minimum.

I am 9 days out from my 1 year surgiversary and I decided to re-live my 10 day pre-surgery liquid diet. (started yesterday) My main reason is so that I never forget the struggle that got me here, but a reset, jump-start can't hurt either, right? I'm 35lbs from my goal weight. I'm grateful for living and can't wait to see how my life continues to change as I continue to lose. The only thing that concerns me is working out while on the liquid diet. I am in the gym 1 hour per day 6 days per week. I am getting about 105g of protein per day. Obviously, this "memorial diet" isn't required so I'm not going to risk my health for it, but it just feels like something I need to do.

A Warning

Did it really go away????? <hugging self and rocking back and forth-finally feeling a little hope> When did all of your reactions begin? About 24 hours after the suspect medication? Did it take about a week to 10 days? I'm on day 6 (began Thursday the 2nd but really blew up on the 3rd) and while I have just a tiny improvement, it's nowhere near me being back to normal. I dumped every med except for the 3 I was on before the surgery (and had been on for years) and am taking the steroids and antihistimines. I can't look in the mirror without crying...and please understand. I'm 40 with three kids...I'm over the vanity thing. But the way I look now is beyond description and leaving the house isn't even an option. I work 3rd shift by myself and when my relief comes in the morning, they avoid looking at me. THAT'S how bad it is. Please tell me yours was about the same! I have to believe this is going away. I'm not prone to depression but this has knocked me on my a** in more ways than one. The itching makes me insane. Thank you again for your responses...I just logged on and hoped to hear from someone that might have had something similar but never expected something like this. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for the board and for all of you. :redface:

Sizing down in clothes

As the weather started to get cooler I wanted some jeans that fit well. Before surgery I was wearing 22W. Now I buy my jeans at Old Navy when they're 50% off and so far, over the past four months, I've worn size 16, 14, 12 and now fitting in the size 10! I love it!!!! My advice is to buy a little tighter than you need at the time of purchase and they will fit in no time. ????

Thanks for sharing!! You gave comfort to my hubby - his date was 6/3/10 and he is at about 66 lbs lost right now. He started at 340 lbs and he has been stalled in the 270's for 5 weeks or so. Sort of a simillar situation. He was happy to see your post. I told him I know from a lot of your posts that you exercise, eat right, do what you gotta do... so it helped him to know he is not alone and he's not doing things wrong Thanks!!
