How do you tell if your full
melodymouse replied to jd1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you are taking infant sized bites for your new infant sized and chew until there is nothing left. I used the 30 Chew Rule. If it was gone after 30 chews, I would spit it out. If your teeth can't pulverize it, there's no way your stomach will be able to break it down easily. Also remember it should take you close to 30 minutes to eat. Its real easy to eat too big of bites and too fast. I'm over 15 months out and STILL measure things. It is the best way. Also stop eating when you first feel that pressure sensation so you don't over eat. You can always wait 15 minutes and eat some more if you're afraid you're not getting enough. It took me close to an hour in the soft and early regular food stage because the curve at the top op my stomach was so tight. Hang in there. It does get MUCH better! -
What Can You Eat Post-Op?
ellis71 replied to thehappycat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure about Slim Fast. The first week I was on clear liquids only (this did include sugar free Powerade) and broth. Then moved on to mushies, with lots of protein. -
I'm so frustrated - I screwed it up!!!

I totally feel you on this! I just had my first fill and I dont think I feel restriction either.... I have just been really strict about how much i eat...and I stop after 4 oz, even if im still hungry. I am very nervous that I am going to fail. Now after reading your post I am worrying that I am eating to fast also. I just eat like normal, I thought after the fill I would really notice something different, but I didnt. Hopefully this 4th fill is just what you need to get you back on track. You can do it, 6 lbs isnt the end of the world, just stay focused and force yourself to exercise and follow your diet. I know you can do it. Just like I know I can, IF I stay focused... I just thought it would be a little different than it has been. I am going to ask for more of a fill on the 15th when I go back. Good Luck!! You can do it! -
My doc said I have to drink liquids only (non-clear liquids are allowed, thank God!). Can you drink protein shakes and Slim Fast? What else do people ingest after surgery?
-

Looking for other Lap Banders in Tampa Fl
debgoodman posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi! I'm looking to find fellow Banders in Tampa. I'm scheduled for surgery at the end of August as I found out that I have H. Pylori and am taking 30 days of antibiotics prior to surgery. I'm 33 and have a 7 month old. I'm looking for some support people who are local and maybe around my age or that have kids (although I'll take anyone. I'm not too picky). I'm married, and although my husband supports my decision to have surgery, he doesn't understand being heavy. He's 6'5" and 190lbs so he thinks you should just have will power to control weight. However, he has a super fast metabolism so he's never used will power for anything! I'm new to the area. Just moved from Atlanta. I just want regular communication with someone who really understands where I'm at mentally with the process. My husband will always be by my side but he will never understand what it's like to be heavy. I don't really know anyone here. All my friends are either in Atlanta or in NC. If you're in the area and you've either been through surgery already or are going to go through it soon, I'd love to hear from you. And I know there are support groups but I'm looking for people who are more friends than just attend support groups. -
What to expect at initial consult?
theinudemon replied to theinudemon's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Went to my consult, she said I was a perfect candidate for surgery. Dr Francois was blunt and honest about everything, no hand holding or holding back whatsoever. She said many people get this surgery thinking it'll fix their addiction or habits to fast food or junk food, and that's just not true. You need to make a change today, and not after the surgery. I'm one of those people who eat out a lot due to convenience and such and also am a picky eater. It sounds like she is approving of me getting it, but HIGHLY SUGGESTS a change in my eating habits. NO FAST FOOD, NO SODA!!! In short, I have been referred to a different city in IL to undergo this program ASAP. I haven't heard from them yet, but went ahead and asked the surgeon's office for the info so I can call myself in a few weeks or so if need be. -
What and how much do you eat in a day?
ParrotheadCathy replied to tcbgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's not that unusual to not lose anything between surgery and when you start getting fills....or just lose a small amount. Your first fill probably won't get you close to your sweet spot, but you're officially on your way there. I just got my 4th fill earlier this week (Mon.) and I have reached my sweet spot. 3 meals a day of lean Protein (3 oz., looks like about the same size as a deck of cards), steamed or raw veggies (watch the raw stuff because if you don't chew it really well, it can stick even if you have only minimum restriction). I was told to wait 15 minutes. If I still felt hungry, I could have a serving of whole grain carbs. Until you reach your sweet spot, a meal likely will not stave off hunger for 4 hours (which is the goal, a minimum of 4 hours). I was told to eat a snack of low fat protein, such as a boiled egg, an ounce of low fat cheese, 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese, etc. I have even used a few leftover steamed shrimp as a snack. For Breakfast, when I'm always in a hurry, I just drink a Slim Fast Low Carb Diet. This one specifically. It has 20 grams of proten and 2 net grams of carbs. They make several varieties, so look for the boxes clearly marked Low Carb Diet if you choose to use these. For lunch I usually have Soup and some low fat cheese. I cook dinner for my family. Often fish, since we all like it, but pork, beef and chicken are all on the menu. -
Has anyone struggled with trying to change their eating habit & yet still be involved with family meal time?
priscillak replied to bignich's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
So personally I don't think you are asking too much at all. When my mom and I went on a liquid diet to lose weight, it was hard because we were trying to make this HUGE lifestyle change while the other half of our family carried on as though it wasn't a big deal. Which, looking back, hindered the progress we made. Because if your family is not supporting you by still going to fast food restaurants while you are there and not empathizing with you and your struggle, what's to stop you from easing into old habits. That's not to say tell them to stop altogether, at least not at this point, but asking them to be more considerate and maybe let you know if they are going to a fast food place so you can opt out. I've also been on the side where I wasn't dieting and my some in my family were. I made the accommodations because I loved them and wanted to support them on this journey to be the most successful they could be. If it meant not eating taco bell in front of them I gladly did it, because I stood by my support of them. I think you should have a talk with her and just explain how you need to be supported to have the best possible success because maybe she doesn't see her actions as unsupportive. Also if the whole family is trying to eat healthier why is is she going to a fast food joint anyway. I think you guys should probably sit down and have the talk again so as to clear the air and pave the way for a healthier life. -
In need of some advce and encouragement
coops replied to Suzalicious's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Suz, I am hearing you loud and clear. I feel the same way. If I had been a fast loser I would be a goal now,.. not sure if this will make you feel better,, but I haven't lost a pound since the end of Jan!!! All I can say, is that we must stay posiive, relish every ounce that we are lighter and healthier and try to see the bigger picture. This, for me, has to be a life long journey... that is why I took the drastic decision and had the surgery! One day, we will get there and it is gonna be soooooo sweet!! Chin up and shout me if I can help in any way =] -

You are doing wonderfully, everyone loses at a different rate, and everyone has a stall here and there.... I do lose 100 quickly but then over the next 7 weeks I lost nothing.... Slow and steady wins the race I actually know someone who had a bypass and lost so fast that it really messed them up... Follow your doctors plans and you'll get there -
I had a small fill 10 days ago. 1/2cc. Prior to that, I used to get stuck at least once a day, I tend to eat fast. Since this fill I have no resistence at all. I have gained 5lbs. I am so upset...........SHould I go back and do a couple days of liquids? Is the band leaking? call the doctor. can someone please help me. Thanks:sad_smile:

Newby Southern Indiana just starting to perform lapbands
herbgoddess35 replied to herbgoddess35's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow, that was fast. He didn't really discourage me, it just kindoff made me mad. First you tell me too loose the weight, then when I say I have a plan you discredit that plan. Meaning him. If dieting worked I would be skinny. Duh. Thanks so much for your encouragment. I am set on having the band. I'm just in the very beginning of the process. I will read, read and read somemore. Thanks again. -
Scheduled for Tuesday the 23rd.
faybie replied to Nella337's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You will see the doctor for about 20 seconds while he asks you if you have any questions. Next thing you know you will be in aftercare wondering when they are going to start it goes so fast. LOL. I think everyone gets nervous before hand so that is definitely normal. -
After you get the gastric band can someone stretch out the stomach by overeating?
LessLee replied to nursecheryl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I hope you weren't reading my blog and I scared you. If you were, let me explain. I got stuck on a hamburger and that scared me into thinking I could of done damage. Totally my fault though for eating too big, too fast. I ate soft yesterday just in case I irritated something. #2 I am not yet at my "sweet spot" and am able to eat more if want too. 90% of the time, I stop myself at an appropriate band sized portion. I also count calories right now. Once I am properly adjusted I will hopefully not have to count calories, but just make good choices. The band also wont help me make good choices, that's up to me. #3, I have always struggled with emotional eating, this is a battle the band cannot help me with unfortunately, and yes I had a weak moment the other day where emotional eating took over. BUT, because I have the band and fear doing damage, I am more mindful and instead of spiraling downhill for days/weeks, I get back on track right away. I didn't go though surgery to fail, so I have even more fight in me now to win this battle. -
Surgery was a success but still in mild pain
Mariel0718 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
had surgery 11/10 everything went fast from the time they put me to sleep till I woke up ... once I woke up I saw my family but the pain was serious had so much pressured for the first few hours Morphin was given to ease pain and they made me get up to walk 6 times a day ... felt a little bit better yesterday but was so sleepy always sleepy .... came home today morning but the only discomfort is the my side it’s stitches it’s hurt when i try to move get up or turn over to sleep ... but I managed pillows became my best friend ... trying to get my 60-80 grams of protein water but little by little I can feel it going down my throat and stopping in my stomach sounds weird ...walking bending up and down or lifting you legs help with the gas flow or even tapping your back while drinking like burping a baby .. anybody recommends any things else for gas?? other than that recovery healthy hurts yes but little by little things better ... -

Feel a little bummed...
pixistix replied to Scoobie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The difference between restriction and not-restriction can be a very small amount of saline, but the difference is night and day. Another thing to consider is that, for some inexplicable reason, a fill can actually take a couple of weeks to "kick in." I have no idea why, but I have experienced it first hand. Both before and after restriction, I have found that focusing on nutrition and activity is most productive for me. Exercise helps my mood and motivation to eat well (oh yeah, and I guess it's also pretty good for you). And now that I can't eat nearly as much, it's really important to get my nutrition in. A nutritious snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon really helps me. I'm not starving at meal time, so I make better choices and don't eat too fast and run into trouble (now that I have good restriction). If I go to the gym in the evening and am hungry before bed, sometimes I'll have a Protein shake. Good luck on your journey -- and hang in there. It will work! -
I Ate 2400 Calories
KittyKat848 replied to Curvy4lyfe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I checked out your food diary. I'm going to be very honest with you. You are eating almost all fast and processed foods that are laden with salt and carbs. Perhaps you can find a way to replace These largely empty foods for ones more on post op plan. Dump the biscuit, pizza, fried food, and candy bar. These just aren't good choices. Hugs to you. I know it's hard! But you are worth it. -
Going To The Hospital Again:(

I've fallen out of love....with going out to eat!
olivia_99 replied to amonroy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow..you guys are doing fabulous! Keep up the great work.. Amonroy...I have a 10cc band with 6.5 cc and dont feel restriction..I am following the rule..my next adjustment is 3.24.09..I wanna reach that sweet spot because when i eat i dont feel like ive eaten.. Amonroy--I go to the chinese buffet here where I live & have chicken..crab legs..steamed clams..broccoli stuff like that..I drink unsweetened iced tea when I there...I go to burger king & get a side salad with grilled chicken..i avoid Mcdonalds because i heard that they spray their chicken with sugar water so it doesnt dry out...Its hard to eat fast food because the choices are limited..sometimes when u are out and about you want something fast..i always opt for chicken or salad...once in a blue moon i will have ice cream but not a big portion.Any suggestions?? -
fast foods I have a problem with it won't go down. if i have a burger, it is w/out the roll. and i can't even think about fries. but by the time i eat the burger I'm full. bread of any kind NO WAY! but if i toast rye bread and make it hard i can get a few bits before it gets stuck. not worth it. once something gets stuck and the sliming starts i can't eat for 1 hr. breakfast usually is crangrape juice w/benefiber in it and my 8 pills, then I'm full thats around 7:00 am. at 1:00 p.m. i may have tomatoe soup or cottage cheese or yogurt. if I'm home for dinner it would be some kind of protein ad some kind of canned veg. if I'm out i omit the veg. because i can't get it cooked soft enough to get it down. sometimes i will eat salad if it goes or i ask for cucumbers and vinegar. i think my biggest thing is that i don' exercise. but that is going to end soon.

Banded Yesterday, Vomiting today
nkara replied to Dana36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the previous posters... pain meds and anesthesia can cause vomiting. Sounds like you have a surgeon who is right on top of things...... Here's hoping it doesn't last and you make a fast recovery. -
This actually is so much different from pre-band for me. I ate so much fast food it's ridiculous.. Favorite b'fasts.. Yoplait Key Lime Whipped Yogurt or Quaker Oat Bites Favorite Lunches.. Canned turkey mixed with cranberry sauce, small chili from wendy's, baked potato from steak out, egg salad(I've been craving this lately), a big handful of red grapes, or a small handful of colby cheese cubes. Favorite Dinners- My first mushy food: a crab cake (appetizer) from Ruby Tuesdays. My goodness, and it's still a favorite dinner for me. chicken & dumplings (homemade), swedish meatballs & a veggie, beef & broccoli from chinese take out, keilbasa & saurkraut.. These are things I like having for those meals. I don't have any specific favorite I guess for 'overall'.
