January 2020 Surgery Folks
Mitsu531 replied to TattooedSeaStar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can get down about 2 1/2 to 3 ounces. I need to stop at that point otherwise I could get foamies or pain at top of stomach. Finding soft Foods are better to go down. Tried homemade pizza tonight. Was able to eat 3 small bites of it. Went down ok, no issues. Got full from it fast. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Where did you have surgery?
Zoomzoom replied to sekesterson21's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had mine in Las Vegas (sleeve) at Blossom Bariatric. Excellent experience; I qualified for their fast track program - from arrival through surgery in 5 days. Advertised cost $6799, mine was a little less than that because of a promotion they were running. Includes hotel, transportation once you get there, surgery, etc. Really good experience. March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!
Amy Franks replied to Mello1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My program only requires "soft foods" two days before, and clear liquids the day before, but I have been doing 2 protein shakes a day and one meal on my own. I have my pre-op appointment on Monday! It's crazy how fast it is all going now. I have figured out my vitamin regimen (2 Bariatric Advantage Chewable Advanved Multi EA and 3 Bariatric Adv Calcium Chews), and finally found a plant based protein I don't hate (purely inspired Organic Protein). I am intolerant to whey, so the majority of the regular ones are out for me. And there are soooooo many disgusting plant based ones. I have also checked in with all of my favorite coaches with at my gym to make sure they are cool with me not following the daily format so I am good to go there too! I don't want to lose my gym habits. It's too easy to fall back into not going, lol. I am an OrangeTheory addict. -
y'all are cracking me up !!! love this thread...……… @Green Tealael you are so funny … and fast with the comebacks lol

January 2020 Surgery Folks

They're so cute! I can eat about 3 ounces at a time without issue. I feel very little restriction at all. And it's only after I've eaten, if I've done so too fast, that I'll feel really bad for a little while. I eat about 4-5 times a day (not always three ounces, often just a cheese stick or cashews as a snack) but small meals through the day . It's the only way I can get in protein because I hate the damn drinks lol Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk -
I'm not a WLS veteran, being only 11 months post bypass, but would like input from you veterans. Do you think that all the measuring, weighing, and tracking of food leads to disordered eating? I have a history of anorexia long before I was morbidly obese so I obviously have some sort of problem with food!! I just started Intermittent fasting and kind of feel I am entering a slippery slope towards another eating disorder because I have put pressure on myself to lose 9 pounds this month to get to my goal by my surgiversary. My therapist thinks that all the tracking is detrimental, but I think I need to track for fear of gaining weight back. I'm not underweight at 5'4 and 139 pounds. Thanks for reading! How do you balance being healthy, tracking, and not going overboard? Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Surgery this month, wife threatening divorce
november11 replied to Xx1jpt5xx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Provost First of all congratulations on your decision to literally change your life and health status.. I'm very sorry to hear your wife is not as supportive as you would like her to be. However you must do this for YOU . More than likely as she sees your steadfastness without resentment or anger towards her she will come around. Just continue to be nice, smile and do what you have to do.. It may take some time but just hang in there and whatever you do, Do NOT host a pity party . just follow the surgeon and nutritionist instructions to the letter and you will have excellent results... Men lose so much faster and astonishing than women. Max out with the protein requirements and water intake . Worry about the other skin issues when and if the time comes.. Save some money in the next year or so just in case and if not then knock yourself out with a total new wardrobe /car . lol .Good luck and God speed to a quick recovery in your fast approaching surgery...… keep in touch here on the forum.... -
July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op
JAKE H replied to Mom_of_Chaos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as diet goes, i stuck to a good plan and for the first six months i had a protein shake for breakfast and lunch with a couple of protein based "snacks" (cheese stick, a serving of jerky..etc) and then for dinner it would be some kind of meat and veggie. The weight will come off regardless. i wasnt try to do it fast, Ive just become obsessed with the gym and working out. I started crossfit two weeks after surgery and i havent stopped. I also took up running. Just ran a half marathon two sundays ago. I wanted to get a good relationship with working out because i know the honey moon phase will end and i can eat more eventually. So, i know if i continue to exercise and add good foods to my diet ill be successful in the long run. So i guess the way i did it, is by relearning the true value in food and by setting up a plan for the rest of my life. I cant believe how fast time has gone. Im loving every second of it tho. I have days where i feel down when everyone at the house is snacking or everyone at my office is celebrating with beer and pizza. But then i look in the mirror and remember i use to hate who was looking back at me. And now every time i see myself i almost chuckle a little bit. Like thats actually you dude. Where im at today was well worth skipping the cake and pizza. But dont get me wrong, once in a while you gotta try a thing or two or youll go insane. lol Find that balance and live there. SOrry for the long response. -
February Surgery ?
ChiefPWife replied to PSquared_vsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yesterday I had all of my preop blood work and a chest X-ray. Today I got my official check in and scheduled surgery time. The hospital is over 2 hours from my house, assuming there’s no traffic, across all of San Bernardino and LA counties. (Which means there is ALWAYS traffic!) My check in time is 5 am. So, I booked a night in a hotel a few miles down the coast from where the surgery will be. The surgery itself is set for 7 am (on March 3). They sent prescriptions for liquid Tylenol with codeine, dissolving zofran pills, an acid reducer for the first three months, and a single dose heavy duty anti-nausea pill for the morning of surgery. I’m beginning to have a difficult time focusing at work. My liquid diet is only one day, so that will be Monday. Tuesday can’t come fast enough!! -
Any upcoming March 2020 Sleevers out there??

My surgeon didn't give me one either. I'm sure they always give a higher number to make sure they have success with your procedure. I personally don't feel like setting a number for myself is beneficial and if anything it would make the whole process even more agonizing with weighing myself and discouraged if the weight doesn't fall off fast enough. I prefer just taking it day by day and not putting a ton of pressure on myself.

You will be great! Prayers for a speedy and safe surgery. I'll be in your shoes next Monday, so not far behind, definitely understand the nerves. You got this!! Just think, time goes by so fast before you know it, you'll be a month out of surgery and be giving someone else this pep talk! -
Initial Consult Update
jlb8080 replied to GrungeGrownUp's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So my insurance didn't require any of the weigh-ins. I just had one appt with the surgeon, nutritionist and the psych evaluation all in the same day. They submitted it to my insurance and they approved it in a few days. I was scheduled for surgery 3 weeks later. It went so fast I didn't have time to wuss out 😂 It is strange how so many insurance companies have such different views on the subject. Especially when it eliminates so many medications by having the weight loss surgery. It's in their benefit I would think. -
This is true too. Some may think you are ill if you lose weight too fast. Personally, I have decided that I'm not going to give a care what they think. I'm going to live large! (Well, not literally, heh.)

Howdy everyone! I have lurked in the shadows for a while now and finally feel like I am at a point in my life where I can come out into the light and say, I have started this journey -for real- now! loss surgery has been on my radar for years thanks to my dad-I've been obese if not morbidly obese since 4th grade (I am 30 now). I have started the process of getting sleeved twice before this year. First time I only got past the initial consult with the surgeon and maybe one weigh in for the supervised diet but then we ended up moving and I let it fall by the wayside and the second time I actually moved in with my dad and started the process (I was still on his insurance) as Duke has a good program and my step mom has achieved success after having the gastric bypass so the hope was to use her as a resource as I plugged away at the insurance requirements. I even had a good therapist to work with. Alas though, it was not meant to be as my mental health staying with my dad was no bueno. Fast forward to last October, my birthday. I've turned 30. I am now a good 10 pounds heavier than my heaviest. Finally at a point where I was ready to really pursue this, during open enrollment with my work provided insurance I opted to pay more each paycheck but have a 10% reduction in my co-insurance, as well as lower deductible and out of pocket max. Even if it was just for a year, I was going to do this. Found myself a PCP I really like, and made the consult appointment with the surgeon-Dr. David Provost with Baylor Scott and White in Temple(who I REALLY liked). The appointment went really well, I have 7 months of supervised diet, which is just fine with me, I have a lot of head work and habits to work on. I also have to do a psych test and sleep study, go to a lifestyle class and at least one support group meeting(I am stoked about maybe meeting people!). Best part so far of working with Baylor Scott and White? I have a WHOLE BOOKLET of information ranging from what to do several weeks pre-op to months post-op, they also made every appointment I will need (with the exception of I think the psych-they will call me to set it up) so I can see how my next few months will progress. My last weigh in with my PCP is September 28th, my birthday is October 29th....maybe, just maybe I will get to be sleeved as a birthday present(crossing my fingers)? I have no co-morbidities----not sure how I lucked out on that one. I love hiking and my most recent accomplishment was a 7ish mile hike on Christmas Eve. I don't know what has clicked that wasn't there before but y'all....I am READY! I have enjoyed reading your triumphs, set backs and learning along with you and am finally ready for this!

100lb Mark SLOWLY Approaching
Lynda486 replied to Miss Liss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations on your terrific weight loss. I am thinking I may try fasting as well. Only, I love my coffee and creamer in the morning. I wonder how that works? Anyway, you are doing great, celebrate! -
2 week stall! Any advice?
Jay19 replied to Dee2938's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try intermittent fasting. It always does the trick! Just search it on here. -
Hello all! I had Gastric Sleeve surgery on 4/9/19. I am coming up on my 1 year anniversary but I am still 20lbs or so away from losing 100lbs. At month 6 I experienced a 3 month stall that I just recently broke after trying intermittent fasting. I'm kinda bummed that I probably won't meet the "100lbs down in a year" goal. Did anyone else NOT lose 100lbs in their 1st year? If you didn't, were you upset or discouraged about it?

When did you stop loosing weight?
Miss Liss replied to Dee2938's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I stalled at month 6 and continued to stall for 3 months until I tried Intermittent Fasting. It helped get the scale moving again! -
Well I tried IMF and it helped! It broke the stall but now I think my body is used to it smh. I've been fasting everyday for about a month now and have lost 8lbs. My 1 year surgery anniversary is coming up in April and I am still 20lbs or so from losing 100lbs. I am bummed that I will not meet that goal. Did anyone else NOT lose 100lbs in their 1st year?

How to survive when your family eats junk food—help!
Silvernova posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do not know where to start. My immediate family (Husband, tweens) support me verbally, but they continue to eat lots of processed food, fast food, etc. I’ve asked that they keep that stuff in the pantry, but the request is ignored. (He actually brought home a case of Girl Scout cookies tonight!). I can ignore the take-out and fast food for myself, but I get really depressed when I make something I can eat for the whole family they take a few bites (like slightly seasoned taco meat) and head for the bag of chips. I knew this was going to be an issue before surgery, but I brushed off how hard it would become mentally since I’m struggling to find a good eating pattern at 7 weeks post-op and find myself still drinking one shake a day to get 1/2 of my protein. Has anyone else encountered this problem and how did you get over the emotional/mental block of everyone in your house being the exact opposite of you? I should clarify that I’m not preachy or pushy with them regarding diet since getting the sleeve was my choice, but I need to get more animal protein in the house for me at least. (Tuna is not tolerated—so that’s out. Eggs are too since I’m allergic to egg whites). I’m really sick of beans and cheeses at this point and almost caved with with McDonald’s fries last night when they were brought home. I’d also appreciate if anyone has any go to meat based recipes that freeze well in small portions that they could share, so I can wean off my reliance on shakes. thanks for listening. My head and heart needed to vent. -
Hi there - Many thanks for your supporting words. It's coming fast (day after tomorrow). I woke up this morning thinking I still have a chance to get out of this....but if I did, I would never get another chance. I'm getting it done come hell or high water.
-
Hi Michael, I agree that you should focus more on hydration as opposed to protein intake in the beginning. I would suggest talking to your surgeon/dietician about the shakes because I started with clear liquids for the first few weeks. There are protein waters that you can use as your stomach heals. I also had trouble with thirst in the beginning and felt like I was drinking too much. Be careful and try to measure because I have thrown up from drinking too much too fast. I had one incision site that really hurt and looked bruised. The surgeon said that is usually the site of the port where they remove your stomach. It gets better though. Good luck! M-

Bariatric Pre-made protein meals (add water meals) VS home cooked protein meals
FluffyChix replied to Shawna Jones's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi and welcome! Congrats on listening to your body and noting the cues it's giving you!!! Waaaahhhhoooooooo! That is totally part of how we come to have "light bulb moments" with the signals our bodies send us! Most likely what's happening for many reasons is: The food is very processed so it hits your blood stream as glucose faster which causes a higher insulin spike. When your blood glucose falls, then you get hungry again. And it can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 3-6 hours depending on the food source. Right? The less processed a food is and the more dense, dry and solid it is, the longer is stays in our new tools, the more work and energy the body expends to send it out of our tums and into our gut, and the slower we digest the food in our gut, the slower the broken down macro nutrient takes to get the glucose that can be wrung out of it, into our blood stream. Slow is good! Liquids = super fast Mechanically ground = super fast Solids, low carb, low calorie dense, high fiber = very slow or at least slower Solids, dense, lean, no "lube", low fat = slowest and ideal Sorry to geek out on you! (I ate eggs and sausage with avocado and pico at 10:45 this morning and I've yet to eat again cuz have been full all day. ) Tonight I'm eating a king's meal: steak, asparagus, avo & tom salad.
