    Evening sweet tooth

I sometimes mix 1/2 T of unsweetened cocoa powder into a thing of vanilla Carbmaster or Light & Fit yogurt and then throw a few raspberries on top. I also usually have a container or two of Ice Breakers around all the time - but although they are sugar free, they're empty calories - but having just three or four isn't horrible - and better than binging on cookies or something.
  2. Seems like I do a great job at work sticking to my healthy eating habits - greek yogurt for breakfast; P3, tuna or chicken salad for lunch; protein bar in the afternoon. Then I get home in the evening and the craving for sweets intensifies times ten! I'm sneaking handfuls of cereal, eating my daughter's granola bars, etc. I have the calories to spare usually but I need to spend them on healthier choices instead of pure sugar!
  3. I was on full liquids the first 10 days cream of wheat, yogurt, creamed soups, smoothies, oatmeal, ect. Then soft foods scrambled eggs, beans, cheese, grits. Drs. guidelines vary so much that first month. Good luck to you

    Food help!

And I made myself sugar- free puddings or tapioca with stevia, used to like rice, but it balls up in my pouch, won't move on through so I Have to puke it up. And yes I do still urp and puke, very few days without it, I do not exceed the designated amounts, still happens. Just finally able to tolerate Greek Yogurt , it and cottage have always refluxed back up every since surgery, 2 other illogical things-Peanut butter, even PB2 powder, and bananas, doesn't matter how ripe they are. Don't try hiding these in smoothies, Precious Pouch knows and MUST have her way!

    Pre-op diet question

I think it could depend on how long ago you started the pre-op diet from your first nutritional visit. If you're already used to drinking shakes, etc, then the 2 week pre-op diet shouldn't be too hard, you're just adding a couple more shakes to the day and eating some yogurt, popsicles, etc. My nutritionist considered cottage cheese to be a liquid, so I took full advantage of that fact. I only had to do clear liquids the day before and the week after surgery. Just make sure you stay busy and the two weeks will go by fast enough. You'll be too excited for the upcoming procedure to worry about eating anyways. Drink more water than you ever have before too, that helps a ton. Good luck to you
  7. I was intrigued with the idea of greek cream cheese after reading all this and found this site with instructions to make your own Looks easy.... https://lifeshouldcostless.com/diy-how-to-turn-greek-yogurt-into-cream-cheese/
  8. Great post! I had to laugh at you referencing how the sleeve was discovered by sheer accident- so true! @BlueAngelEyes After finding this page, I did not realize the variation in each doctor's before/after surgery orders are. My husband had the sleeve a few years ago and he was on liquids for six weeks, then allowed to pureed/soft foods for a month and then transition into full eating. I went through a different practice and I was only on full liquids for about 7 days, then 10 days of soft/pureed and next eating whatever agrees with my system. I do not think there is one right way, but the doctors are following the guidelines that they believe work. I for one was hungry literally by the end of my first week. I was over the liquid shakes and think I demolished a box of sugar-free Popsicles in a couple of days. I looked forward to eggs, yogurt and cottage cheese but honestly was tired of that after a couple of days. I would advise that you contact your doctor or dietitian before moving along because you want to ensure that your body can actually tolerate the foods that you want to consume. So far the only meat protein that I have been able to tolerate without feeling sick are eggs, pork chops and flounder (after trying chicken, salmon, small portions of beef and lamb). This is definitely not a fun process, but you want to make sure you are prepared mentally as well as physically before moving on. I wish you the best!

    Food Before and After Photos

I found these! http://www.franklinfoods.com/greek-cream-cheese https://www.kroger.com/p/kroger-greek-cream-cheese-spread-with-greek-nonfat-yogurt/0001111086130 Bummer the Franklin Foods is only at 1 local chain (Sprouts), not well distributed in the West at all. The Kroger one is definitely not at my local Kroger store, but not surprising. It is a "value" banner, and doesn't cater to a demographic that is necessarily looking for more healthful options

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Had surgery yesterday and it went great. I haven’t had really any pain nor gas issues but had two times when the nausea was awful. Last night they gave me a couple of medications for it because zofran didn’t work on its own. Thankfully I didn’t throw up. Been waking the halls a lot. Today I got a protein shake and it literally took me all day to sip. Lol. I’ve also had ice water, a couple of bites of yogurt and a few sips of tomato soup. Overall feeling good. Only time I feel icky is when I take too many sips...I get a heavy feeling like I have to burp. Going on my walks I saw someone else with a protein shake... I want to say hi but don’t want to invade anyone’s privacy. Lol I should be released tomorrow...my Dr is on the conservative side and likes to keep people 2 nights. Good luck to everyone going tomorrow!

    Yogurt

I have the same question...except it seems no matter what brand I try, I can not tolerate Greek yogurt. The only exception is if it's mixed in with stuff like in a dip. I'm in the pre-op diet stage and low fat yogurt is on the acceptable foods list. The trouble is, I can't seem to figure out what kind to get since so many low fat yogurts are surprisingly high in sugar. Any help is appreciated!

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I don't have a marco breakdown, but here's what I consumed yesterday. I am embarrassed about how much of my diet is coffee, but hey. Blue top milk coffee, barista style 1/2 Bullet coffee (butter + coconut oil added) 1/4 of a bill-tong bier-stick (regurgitated, only about 10g but my stomach sucks sometimes) A cheese stick An optifast shake A coffee with a little cream added Greek yogurt pot -- coffee and cacao nib A coffee with a splodge lacto-free milk (because that's all we had on hand) A couple bits of roast lamb... probably about 20g, and I felt sick afterwards. 500ml water *** I tend to stick to liquids on days when I feel super restricted, like yesterday. I KNOW I shouldn't be drinking so much coffee... but because sugary drinks (even low sugar drinks) are more or less out, coffee is, like, liquid heaven. It's also the middle of winter here - sun's down around 6 pm, it's cold, I've lost almost 100 pounds so I'm cold all. the. time. Aaaaaaannnd that's my list of excuses for how poor my diet is. Lol.
  15. @JanJan19 Lmao I read your cottage cheese post and decided not to ask if advancing a day or two early would kill me. I didn’t want to get scolded either. I mean if we were all great dieters most of us wouldn’t be here in the first place. JS. I made it to foods today without cheating except I added a little shredded cheese to my grits the last couple days, but yea, I hear you. And at some point those cream Soups and yogurt and shakes just make you want to hurl. I crushed my Protein goal today bc I added a Protein Shake snack. Do you know the next step? If you do you could cautiously try it or call your doc and let them know you feel you need to bc you’re so weak. It’s not a hard requirement for all vsgs to go so long on liquid but they may have their reasons.I would never have survived liquids without yogurt. I was eating 3 a day to avoid extra shakes. I can do a shake a day. Any more than that is too much thick sweet drink.
  16. Hi everyone. I had my r n y on May 22nd and was discharged the very next day. Everything was going well just the minimum pulling at the incision sites and soreness. About two weeks after surgery I woke up in the middle of the night with severe pain in my stomach and then began throwing up it scared me so bad because I was so worried about tearing something inside and my doctor is in San Antonio Texas miles away from here in Mississippi. I was just at the point of soft foods and was tolerating scrambled eggs and refried beans and yogurt. But slowly I am now not able to tolerate anything but liquids. I get this ball feeling in my chest like something is stuck a rock and it sliding up and down and then shortly after that I start throwing up. It's not food it's a very thick mucus. I have developed a severe UTI and was prescribed an antibiotic in liquid form but I can't even keep that down. The doctor said there is narrowing at a certain point after the surgery where the stomach connects to the small intestines and he said within a week or two it should dilate itself. Has anyone else experienced this? I sure hope it goes away. Sent from my LG-H910 using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. Girl, I barely made it a week on liquids. But also, listen to your doctor blah blah. I have no idea why yours specifically would be asking for a month of liquids. That sounds insane to me & I can only imagine how frustrated you are especially when we all have completely different instructions. My pre-op was no carbs for a week & then one day of liquids. My post op was 2 weeks of liquids: protein shakes, soups, liquid yogurt. I nearly lost my mind & I was freaking hungry & annoyed. I think I added cottage cheese around day 9 or 10 but I keep that on the down low because I mentioned it once here & a bunch of people went nuts on me. I think the next stage was puree, but my doctor had like all soft foods in there. Like meatloaf was okay. Potatoes, refried beans. I am trying to stay away from carbs so I wasn't real interested in adding those in. I went pretty much from liquids to: yogurt, ground beef, ground chicken, eggs, cheese. I'm 3.5 weeks out & for the most part that's all I'm eating, in some variation. Oh and quiche. I'm eating a lot of quiche with eggs, cheese & veggies. Measured into 4oz servings. Everyone is going to tell you to follow the plan and talk to your doctor, which is wise advice. But also very frustrating knowing that if you'd gone to another doctor across town they may very well have another plan entirely. This entire thing is so confusing to me. I've not eaten one thing that's disagreed with me thus far. I'm being careful, and like I said I have a fairly basic list of items I'm eating but I keep waiting for some of these side effects I'm hearing about because I feel nothing. I tried salmon this weekend. It was fine. Tried cucumber. Fine. I force myself to stay to 4oz & count every calorie, gram of protein and ounce of water. I've not been sick at all. Drinking (water) is a total breeze.
  18. My docter wants me to be on liquids for another 2 weeks my sleeve surgery was may 31st. The taste of protein drinks i just cant doo anymore. Id rather starve litterally. I added in protein yogurt today which wasnt that bad but can some one explain explain why liquids for so long? Doc says its too retrain your brain to dominate your hunger sensation........ thats why iam on liquids so long. It doesnt make sence to me. If my body is in starvation mode cuz i want to cry and starve than drink another protein shake wouldnt it be best to add it other puree protein to help me be more active in life than weak and tired. I dont think waiting 2 weeks is going to change this brain training will it. Does anyone understand this ???

    Dumping

I am 5 months post RNY and I get dumping. Can’t remember the first time I had it. Sometimes it’s because I’ve eaten something that’s not so healthy, sometimes it’s with a healthy food that I have been eating regularly. They are not always carbs, sometimes food such as yogurt triggers it. My dumping generally manifests as shakiness, palpitations and generally feeling weird. I do not get the runs which is what most people seem to think dumping is.
  21. This is something I have wondered about. Probably the easiest way to add in calories is to swap low fat varieties for full fat. So if you currently eat lf yogurt and milk try the full fat versions. Eat healthy fats like avocados and nuts etc. I have seen a number of posts on fb lately with photos of people that have got to a BMI of 18 and all the responses have been great, well done etc. What concerns me is that no one seems worried that for an adult a BMI of 18 is very low (even though it is technically in the healthy range). I think it would be very easy to become addicted to the high of losing weight and ignore the signs that a person may be getting too thin. I am glad that you are addressing this.
  22. Ooh how I envy you that! That is almost like a Cleopatra Couch, I need me one of them! Bring me a grape, gently peeled! And maybe some of that lucious Greek Yogurt you're holding!

    Food help!

I was in the hospital for 11 days with malnutrition status post RNY 6 weeks ago. I have an ulcer, and a stricture. I have TPN running all night at my home. I can finally start eating things that are soft. Any recommendations? I am so sick of yogurt, eggs and soups. Any good crockpot recipes that people tolerated well? I would appreciate all suggestions! This has not been an easy road for me.

    Work/Social eating

Congratulations and wishing you the very best of luck on your upcoming surgery. I would advise you to not schedule working lunches with your clients/friends for the first few months. You have to learn how to eat with your new stomach. It has happened to me a couple of times when I thought I was going to be fine, but still ended up being sick. It is very easy to get distracted. On your first month or so, you need to focus on what you're eating, to chew slow and to pay attention to what your stomach is saying...whether you're full or not. It was embarrassing that a couple of times, I had to excuse myself from the table and got super sick. Even though I can now enjoy the company of others on my lunch breaks, I now prefer to walk. well, maybe I go out with them once a week, but I really enjoy my "me" time. Lunches: I pack something light and easy to eat for lunch. Yogurt, Hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese, beef jerkies, grapes and cheese.... I notice I get full quickly with sandwiches or pasta, so I avoid them at work. I can also now eat chicken/tuna salads. Drinks: Water..water..water.. when we go out on the weekend, I am now able to drink up to 2 Michelob Ultra or 1 Vodka+diet coke. Good Luck

    Purées egg salad?

I do 1/4 mayo to 3/4 Greek yogurt. The mayo passes the flavor to the yogurt and you save on calories. Same for tuna salad and chicken salad, when you are ready.
