I've had one fill, just this past Monday. And I've been pretty much on soft foods (besides 2 days of liquids following the fill) since then. Had some chicken and mashed potatoes last night with no problems. Though I was making sure to chew everything a LOT! So, this being said, I haven't felt much restriction. I am getting a bit hungry between meals and I don't like that! My doc did say, however, that if that is the case, to come back within two weeks for a bit more fill. I'm trying to establish if I'm actually hungry or bored. I'm so used to eating for boredom that it's sometimes hard to tell the difference. It's a paradigm shift, that's for sure! Oh, I have also learned what PB-ing is! Ha! For some strange reason, I'm glad to have found this out first hand. It tells me that the band IS working! I ate half a toasted Weight Watchers pita with fat free butter and got stuck-ish. Maybe I ate too fast or swallowed a bite too big. But the stuck feeling didn't last too long, at least! Sipped some Papaya juice. Not sure that really helped, but a little burp and it was over. Though I am not eating again till dinner! Ha!! I have lost 3 pounds since Monday! K, that's not like a size down or something, but I'm celebrating the small things. Hopefully one day I'll BE a small thing! xo

Maggs watch the PG'ing and the being hungry..I just don't want you to be too aggressive on the fills. You may need one in two weeks but just watch and see if you PB'ing on reasons caused by you or your band? and then for being hungry do the same..head hunger, bored or do you need a fill. Typically if you are PB'ing (or getting stuck) and it is not caused by you--eating too fast or too big of bites...you need an unfill. If you are hungry and it is not head hunger or not from being bored then you need a fill. I have a touchy band when it comes to fills that is why I am trying to offer some advise here. I cannot handle any more than 5.5ccs in my band..whereas others can handle a lot more and yes I had to learn the hard way!! LOL

I'm around 330, 5'6 or so, and 25 years old. Is anyone like me, if so, what is your experience with the band? There are a lot of people of your weight, age and height, and a lot of people who STARTED with your stats, but are now 100(s) of pounds lighter....... Do a search in the monthly forums and especially check the 2006 and befores.... and the B4 and After pics thread Is there anything physical you shouldn't do, that could like, cause slippage? Yes, best discussed with your doc.... first I would say is the initial HEALING stage to not go off your dr's plan.. you want that scar tissue to form to "cement" your band in place. How can I maximize my weight loss, I'd like to lose at least 200, and frankly I don't want to wait 5 years. Anyone who has had optimal success, what did you do during to make it go so fast (I saw someone here say they lost 200 in 18 mos or something)? Same old same old that you've heard over and over.......... diet, exercise and Water. I focus on getting my Protein in and quite frankly that in itself lowers my carbs because I am very restricted and eat very little. If I'm all hot and sweaty, sometimes I'll just down a big glass of water -- will I still be able to do that? NOT REALLY.... when you fill up your stoma too fast it will just gurgle back up... sometimes I do this and the liquid comes right back up just as cold as it did going down! If something gets stuck, how do I get it to release?... Aweee grasshopper........ this is called PB'ng..... its like this...either that offending food sits and disolves and passes through or it come back up..... sometimes it is projectile :scales: Newbie tips: practice not drinking with meals......... practice slowing down.. try to work on the emotional side of eating... because even though you won't be hungry a lot....... the head hunger will try to trick into believing that you are. GOOD LUCK

I don't have anything to offer except that I have been expecting the same thing. I am the only female left in my family that still has her gallbladder, even my sister who is 12 years younger has had hers removed. I have been having intermittent pain on my right side but more towards the back almost near the kidneys...so I am not sure it is gallbladder, I need to get that checked. My surgeon told me pre-op that a high percentage of his patients eventually need to have this surgery due to rapid weight loss. It is a minor laproscopic procedure, your gallbladder is on the other end of your stomach (away from the Lap Band) so I can't imagine it causing any issues with the band.

Why dont I feel different?
slm2007 replied to pjc11801's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the SAME boat!!! Frustrating as all can be. I went to my follow up and they assured me that I would NOT be able to eat anything....little did they know that I tested the waters and believe that I could eat anything I really want. I've eaten a bologna sandwich with no problem...bread, not an issue. I have gotten that little "stuck" feeling and I sit up straight and it subsides after a minute or so. So, with that, I know there is something "different' but I've had the feeling before by just eating too fast. I saw the band when they did my upper GI so I know it's in there. I was told that it won't stop me from eating and I get that but like you, I don't get "full" and it is very frustrating. I have to keep coming back here and reading that I don't have restriction yet, that this is all about healing etc., etc., etc., but it still doesn't stop me from feeling bad because I know I could eat whatever I want and I don't get that "full and one more bite is going to make me sick" feeling. I know I have to do better on the self control, I went through wtih this surgery for a reason, but it is hard. I feel for you. I just have to keep telling myself once we get our "restriction" following the rules will be easier. It is hard right now.....when you don't feel any "different." Keep it up and we'll be okay. We'll get there and like someone said earlier...this is only the beginning of our journey!! :welldoneclap: :banghead: (this is me after eating) I'm really glad you posted this......I didn't know how to put it into words and you did a great job for me.....Thanks -
Anyone else uncomfortable with weight comments?
Apple1 replied to bbrown527's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree it is rude when said in a unkind way. I think it is fine for someone to say you are looking great good for you, if it is genuinely said. I have had people comment on my weight loss, but all of the comments have been very positive and no one has asked my weight or even how much I have lost. I had always been slim until 2006 when I started gaining weight. I ran into someone in a store that I hadn't seen in a long time and had put on about 50 pounds. They actually said to me wow you have gained weight, what happened? I was speachless. I ended up saying something like yes a little and got away from them as fast as I could. It was so rude and hurtful and I couldn't believe they had said that to me. -
Stomach streatched please help me
dreamingsmall replied to Cindy757's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wonder didn't other people not get pain. Im 7 m post and the pain from a whole sandwich would be unbearable. I wouldn't even try it. I agree eating too fast it must be. As that's like an extra trick for me is eating extra slow and the first hint of fullness I stop and don't go back to it. Sent from my Vivo 5R using Tapatalk -
Stomach streatched please help me
dreamingsmall replied to Cindy757's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you ate a full sandwich without realizing your eating to fast. Take your time. And try to say cut in half . Put the other half away so your not tempted to eat more. I'm 7 months out I couldn't dare try and eat a whole tuna sandwich . After half I feel I might be dying lol Sent from my Vivo 5R using Tapatalk -
Hello friends! I have missed talking to you all! Well you all know that I put myself on a pre-surgery all liquid diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. Well I am on the third week of solely liquids and I have lost a total of 24lbs! I have lost 8 pounds since surgery 8 days ago. They had to repair a hiatal hernia when they put in the band. I am doing SUPER. I cannot believe that I have already began part of my work out routine (brisk walking and 10 mins on the elliptical (without the use of my arms)). I have a ton of energy, awesome attitude and the gas pains FINALLY subsided by day 5. I do not return to work until September 21. I plan to treat myself to a new hair style, a sexy office outfit and some bad stilletos! Also, I WILL post new full body pics right before I return to work. I plan to be 40 pounds down by then. I should be able to tell a big diff with my clothes. How am I losing the weight so fast? i do this by dedication, being loyal to my diet and PRAYER! I told God the other night, "Because I am obedient to YOU, I expect to be fabulous because I am your creation, made in your image and I don't expect to be anything less!" It's important to remind God of our expectations

That is so awesome!! You have to be over the moon getting that far that fast. WooHoo!!

How long does it really take you after the lapband to eat?
Cherlita replied to Mariposa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm on solid foods. I have excellent restriction right now. It takes me 20-30 minutes, and I push more towards 30 mins. I also limit the food on my plate to 1/2 cup'ish, depending on what it is. It takes me about 10 mins to eat an egg in the morning. The reason is that it takes about 20 mins for your stomach (and your Lapband pouch) to tell your brain that it is full. The couple of times that I wasn't paying attention and didn't chew as much as I should have caused me a great deal of pain. Once you reach restriction, you will know the reason why it takes more time to eat. Too fast can be very painful. My advice, go slow and know your limits. Good luck! Angela, how'd you lose so much so fast you're 10 lbs ahead of me, and I was 12/6. I'm jealous!

How long does it really take you after the lapband to eat?
Mariposa posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Dr. and many others in the whole program says that you have to take 20-30mins to eat. Now, I never have been a fast eater, nor do I ever inhale my food. Even when I put my fork down and chew my foods 15-20 times each bite and my bites are small, it still doesn't take me 20mins to eat. It takes maybe 10-15 mins for the small amount of food that my dietitian says that I need to eat. Now I haven't even had the lap band yet and it makes me wonder with how lil' I eat now and its takes 10-15 mins to eat, its not going to take me 30 mins to eat even less no matter how well I chew my food?! So I am wondering, for the peeps that have had the lap band, whether you are on solid foods or not, how long does it take you to eat? -
51 now.... Dx menopausal this past Marchishhhh.... I was sweating for no reason (this coming from someone that keeps a heater on all day under my desk). and like many others, as fast as they would come on, they would go away. I was having a few a week. Most of the time at night. I also started having mood swings. My Gyn put me on ESTRATEST (esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone) 1.25 mg of Esterified Estrogens, USP and 2.5 mg of Methyltestosterone. This worked fine for the flashes and moods, but it also made me gain weight. So i stopped taking them. Yes the flashes and swings came back. Aug 28, 2019 got sleeved and im down to 144.2 from 173.5 as of today. So last week i decided to give the pills another chance... well i got married in sept. and now have different insurance and they don't cover this one. So now im on only Estrogen.... So, not sure if the flashes and swings stopped because of the WLS or the pill.....We shall see.

Cant help with the cost issue but commiserate on being too thin. I'm 5ft 10 and currently 135lb and I look a bit awful at the moment. I have loose skin I didnt have 10lb ago and I look a bit like a 90 year old undressed. I've started dressing to hide my bones. But it is NOT easy to allow yourself to gain weight. Currently I have no fill becuase I had bowel cancer and have just been through a huge surgery, so that's what took that last bit of weight off for me, but its taken 8 weeks of no fill for my appetite to wake up. I've gained about 8 much needed pounds after intiitally losing quite a bit after the unfill through the surgical process but its darn scary how fast and easy those pounds have gone on in the last week or so. What I'd suggest is a slight unfill and work your way down until you hit a happy medium, I'm about to begin the same process from the other end, I am happy to gain another 10lb or so but I want to control it and I dont want to gain 20 or 30! My "secret" goal was always 140, at the bottom of my healthy range, but really, it doesnt look so flash. Yeah, my muffin top and thighs are gone, but so are my boobs, all my ribs show and I definitely look older. The main thing to remember is needing to gain should really be a controlled process, not an unfill and a free for all pig out session. Hope you can manage to work in the necessary appointments to perhaps take your fill down a bit. You cant just "stop dieting" etiher because if you look at other people, its only tiny differences in habits - butter on sandwiches, full fat this or that, that odd biscuit with a cuppa or perhaps no exercise - that makes the 50lb difference between your weight and theirs. Gaining healthy pounds whilst maintaining healthy eating and exercise habits is a rather difficult feat and I've had many arguments with mn surgeon and stoma therapist who dont understand why i wont just head to McDonalds for a pig out.

Worst dieting experience EVER...
celticdreamer posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK, so I'm doing this protein-sparing modified fast diet, which is required by my nutritionist prior to surgery. This is not the pre-surgery diet, but a way to prove to them that I can follow a food plan. I am allowed only 9oz of meat daily. So, I was struggling through it, barely making it. Today, there was a presentation by the CEO of my company held at the local Marriott. I didn't know attendance was mandatory until this morning. I got there and they were serving a full Breakfast. I was so damned upset, watching 200 people eat while I drank Water. I am starving. Literally, STARVING. I couldn't handle this. Five hours later, I still feel like crying. This diet has been the most traumatic food-related experience of my life. I am so stressed. The only positive thing here is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Today is my last day and I see my nutritionist tomorrow. After that, I will be going out for lunch. I will NEVER EVER do this diet again. I keep thinking Weight Watchers is a much better option. I just can't wait to get the band. Six weeks after surgery, I think I will be eating real food. I am SO sick of MEAT, for now. I'd give my left arm for a salad or piece of fruit. -Theresa -
Mine was going to the doctor for a routine visit and finding that I had a blood pressure of over 170 over 130! Yikes! That day I started seriously pursuing it, though I had been thinking of it before. That was in September this year and I have lost about 44 pounds (I think) since about October 10. Not super fast, but sure feels good, and my BP is below normal (because of the meds I'm still on). WOW!

my oh god moment was tracking what i spend on fast food over a period of 2 months and seeing that I averaged over $120 a month in fast food on me alone. I was killing myself and i was not going to see my kids grow up. I was banded on 12/3/08 and to date i have lost 30 lbs. I have about 70 more to go and I am getting healthier by the day. I am glad I got the band and do not regret the decision i made.

Post Sleeve Question
Mr Alley Gator replied to Smitty74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are on the same track as I was as a male. Yes stalling is going to occur - I found intermit fasting and slamming the calorie count around to break the stall -
I am waiting for next Tues. for my 4 th fill. At times I do feel like the band is really starting to do its job. Occasionally I do feel some tightness from eating too fast or too much. I am eating small portions and watching what I choose. I can't wait for my appetite to go away. I am so hungry all the time. I really feel like the 4 th fill is really going to make a BIG difference. I am heading to Canada next month for a week and my Surgeon is going to be away for 2 weeks in August so I am not sure when my next appt. will be after the one on Tues. I am in this for the long haul. So......

pre op effort suggestions
Dub replied to rejeannern's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Different strokes for different folks but what works for me is to cut out all the non-Fiber carbs, stay below maintenance level on daily calories and walking a lot. I also found that cutting way back on sodium and drinking Water all day long while doing the above leads to really fast weight loss. I burned off 120 lbs in 8 months doing this. It was a few years back and I've done very, very poorly keeping it off......but it does work fast if you need to burn off some weight quick.
