It means 5 days weekly I’m closely monitoring my calories and macros and practicing intermittent fasting. 2 days a week I relax a bit, let myself have a couple glasses of wine and open my eating window (if I want) to 10-12 hours

Everyone looks great ❤ this thread moves so fast I couldn't keep up

It's a hard habit to break. If I don't pay attention, I'll eat too fast and make myself sick. I ended up buying smaller utensils (think appetizer spoons and forks) to help me take smaller bites, and for a little while, I counted chews. Putting your fork or spoon down in between bites helps to slow you down a little too. You just gotta be careful so you don't overeat and make yourself ill.

new here. i’m about 5 weeks post-op and on soft foods. i’ve always been a semi fast eater. i’m having a hard time with the chewing and waiting for 20-30 seconds before doing another bite. were you able to eat normally again down the road?

pretty much everybody has trouble with the two-week diet. It's hell. The worst part of the whole ordeal, IMHO. The rest of it comes eventually - I pretty much do all that other stuff on auto-pilot, and have for a long time (and yes - it's overwhelming at first, but you get used to it pretty fast)

Gottanewlife replied to Dee2938's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Lost most weight in first 9 months...lost a little more weight, but ALOT of inches after started regular exercise! Do 1 hr of fast power walking and 1 hr of strength training every other day. Have done this for a year and dropped 2 more dress sizes. -
Hiya. I have rny since june 2019 and have been taking kratom for about a month now. I used yo just down it in a few oz of coffee but cant do that any longer. I get powder online and then put it in capsules myself. I can get down the big ones (000) but they do make smaller caps if needed. It absorbs really fast for me (all meds do for me). Takes about 15 to 20 mins even in the gelcaps i just take a lot of water with them (normally about 6 pills total with 20oz of water in about a span of 15 mins.). I take 2:1 ratio of a certain red with a certain white and it makes me feel good plus takes my pain from an 8 down to about a 4 (i have chronic kidney stones). If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask!! :)

Any upcoming March 2020 Sleevers out there??
KS Mermaid replied to Pansypicker's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have the same fears! I had really good results from HCG, but the moment you stopped it (it was super expensive) I started gaining 1lb a day. Now I at my largest in my whole life. After the HCG it seem to be stubborn fat that wouldn't budge, when in the past I used to lose and gain super fast. I have been on the 7day liquid diet and have lost 8lbs on day 6... So i have renewed hope! -
Welcome to the Stall. Just stay on course and do a search here on how to break a stall. For me it was take more calories in for 3 days then less for 2 then short fasting. Tons of information on here about this issue - Welcome to the loser club and ask away anytime!

How to lose weight pre-op?
BigSue replied to BigSue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the advice, everyone! My insurance requires my medically supervised diet to be outside of the bariatric group. I do have to meet with a nutritionist in the bariatric group, but that's a few weeks from now and I get the impression that it's a one-time thing. I also have to take an online nutrition class and a pre-op surgery prep class. I switched from regular soda to diet several years ago, and I was kind of proud of that because it was hard (I loved regular soda and hated the taste of diet, but I gradually made myself switch and now I prefer the taste of diet, and even unsweetened flavored seltzer). I have a personal rule of no snacking at work, but that's not so easy at home, although the intermittent fasting has helped. I've been entering my food in MyFitnessPal, which is required in my bariatric program for the week before meeting with the nutritionist, but I went ahead and started early, so that is helping me to choose lower-calorie foods, but I am having scary flashbacks to my years of yo-yo dieting because I always do well at the beginning but I can never keep it up for the long term. -
I'm in the same boat as you. I had my surgery in April 2019 and hit my weight loss goal. Then I started to increase my calories by reverse diet so I could gain lean muscle. I was doing a weight lifting routine and was frsutrated like you. The only way I know for sure that I've gained any muscle is I had a few dexascans done which showed a 3lb increase over several months, I also lost a percentage of body fat so I took it as a win. Keep in mind I was still in a large calorie deficit for most of that time. From what I've read there are a lot of variables that go into how fast and how much lean muscle you gain on different routines. I would say get an accurate measure of body fat % and lean muscle mass and track it over time. And keep grinding, my dietician who helped me on this path likes to remind me that a lot of those you see posting on facebook have been at it for a long time.

March 10th surgery date
Mello1 replied to Confidently_Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 weeks and they made it clear that if you don't do it, you won't have the surgery. I've fasted before, so I know what to expect. I used to fast for 14-21 in the fall, but the acid reflux couldn't handle green juice fasting anymore. Actually, I'm into day 2, and so far, so good. I think it's the protein shakes. -
You could do oatmeal or cream of wheat... but they overfill me way too fast! I say don't do any cereals! Eating protein first should be your goal anyway.

How to lose weight pre-op?
Machalo replied to BigSue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've lost just under 40 pounds in the last 6 months on my own; surgery for me isn't until April 13. I had lots of bad habits that I needed to break, like soda, diet soda, chocolate, candy in general, chips, white rice, eating out too much, etc. I picked one or two things each month and weaned off of them. The first month, I gave up candy and chips. Next month I gave up sugared soda, limited diet soda to 2 per day, and stopped eating at fast food restaurants. Do it a little bit at a time. Making small goals will start the ball rolling for you, and that will motivate you to change the next bad habit. For me it was also motivating to have to weigh in every month. My insurance stipulates that once I started the journey and had my first weigh-in, that I couldn't go up so much as an ounce (from that first weigh-in) during my four months or I would be denied. No lie, that was a huge motivator. Also, remember why you want this surgical tool to help you control impulse-eating and binge-eating. Find what works for you and what motivates you, and start tracking your food and water intake. Come out on the forums when and if you have a hard day and talk to us. We're all here to help and support you. You can do this! -
Since the topic of WLS, alcohol, and France was brought up, I looked through about ten French articles about the subject. In France, TEN TIMES more people (per capita) undergo WLS than in the U.S., most likely due to the fact that WLS is covered by their Securite Sociale. Only one article mentioned when patients could resume drinking alcohol. It mentioned between three and six months. But the French articles about weight loss surgery were much more precautious about the effects of alcohol post-surgery. Every single one warned that alcohol was much differently and more quickly absorbed after WLS. Translation: The blood alcohol level rises faster, higher and goes down more slowly after ingestion of the drink. Due to the intestinal bypass and the small gastric pouch, the absorption of alcohol after bypass is much more fast : with a glass of wine the legal blood alcohol threshold (0.5 g / L) is reached after a few minutes (whereas this was not the case before surgery).

PLEASE HELP the skeptic in me. Doesn't starving = eventual weight gain??
MaybeMeow posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm really struggling with the decision to move ahead with surgery or not. Here's what I don't understand. How are you not destroying your metabolism by only eating 750 calories a day? Will you never be able to eat regularly again for risk of packing on the pounds? I did the HCG diet years ago (it's terrible. Never ever do it) In a nutshell... you gave yourself a shot every day that kept your body from realizing that it was being starved and then ate about 750 calories a day while your body worked hard to function as usual. The weight dropped off. I lost quickly over about 3 months and then stopped the injections and slowly eased back into a regular diet of about 1500-1800 calories a day. AND THE WEIGHT JUMPED BACK ON so fast I was floored. I was eating a healthy, well balanced diet on the low end of daily intake for my height and weight and activity. But I gained a pound a day until I was 20 pounds heavier than I was before the diet. Explain to me how this forced starvation doesn't do the same thing? My stomach will stretch. We know it does because we are told we can slowly eat more over time. Won't my metabolism think I've starving and halt? Am I really expected to only eat 800 calories a day for the rest of my life or expect to gain?? Thank you for sharing facts and experience. -

I am almost 2 years in and these symptoms still this happen to me. Either eating too much, or too fast. or the wrong food. I am very good at eating the right amounts and things, but it does happen. It is miserable and not fun at all! It does eventually goes away. -
can someone please help me understand my husband?
thewifehere posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When I met my husband in 2007 he was 22, super fit, very muscular, and weighed 190 pounds at 6'0" tall. He was chubby as a child, raised by his dad and didn't grow up in a healthy eating household. He lost weight in high school, gained it back early college, then lost weight again at the end when I met him. Fast forward to now and over the past decade he's eaten too much bad food, drank too much beer, had too much life stress and work stress and now weighs 300 pounds (BMI 40.7 btw). He's talked for years about wanting to lose weight, he'll low carb for a little bit and have some success but then falls off the wagon and feels bad for himself and decides to 'start tomorrow' or keep putting it off. This has been frustrating for me to say the least. I've had his 3 kids, love to be active, and truly enjoy eating and cooking healthy and making good food choices. I weigh the very same I did when I met him (115 pounds at 5'3" tall) and have always cared about staying healthy. We are in a rough spot in our marriage right now because of many stressors, one of which is this weight issue. It's not so much the weight as it is the reason for the weight, the constant procrastination, the food and beer that he put ahead of our marriage for so long. I know he's unhappy, so why does he eat almost an entire pizza in one sitting tonight? He always TALKS about wanting to be healthy, but then does the opposite. I just cannot understand it. He had a protein shake for breakfast, cooked a healthy 'hello fresh' meal for lunch, and then had that pizza for dinner. I feel awful for even posting this, I know this is his journey but at the same time I have feelings too and my feelings are that I want to be with someone who has the same values that I do, cares about being healthy for his children and me in the long term, cares about his appearance, cares about his food choices. I brought up the lap band to him last week saying I thought it was something he should look into and consider, at the time I thought it was something temporary he could put in, lose the weight, and then take out when he got to where he wanted to be. Now I'm learning that's not the case and I've discouraged him from WLS. Truly if he could just do keto like he always says he wants to do, actually STICK with keto and making good choices then I KNOW he could do it, I know that if he'd just commit to the lifestyle change that he could accomplish his goal. But now he's saying he wants to do the lap band so it forces him. And I worry this is a recipe for disaster. If he doesn't have the will power to commit to keto on a daily basis I worry that something like WLS will throw him further into a depression because it's such a permanent choice. I don't know how to properly support him. I want him to lose weight because I know he will be SO MUCH happier in literally every aspect of his life. But why can't he just choose to do something like keto, stick with something. Do I support this WLS idea? I just don't know. I don't want him to be unhappy and miserable forever. And at the same time I want my healthy fit husband that I married 11 years ago. Edit: he wants the band for a year only so he can lose the 100 lbs by following the protocol to the T and then take it out and maintain by being super diligent with his diet and exercise. He says 'he's done it before' twice once in HS and once in college and knows he can, but wants the 'sure thing' with the lap band forcing him to lose that 100 lbs. -
How to lose weight pre-op?
ChubRub replied to BigSue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I first met with my nutritionist, she asked me about my bad habits. My 2 worst bad habits were fast food and soda, so that's what we started with. I offered to cut out both, but then she mentioned that cutting out all fast food might be hard, for instance if the family wanted to get take out/pizza, etc. So I agreed to give up "car eating" which is where I ate most of my fast food, along with the soda. Just doing that was enough to get the ball rolling. I don't know what your bad habits are, but maybe just start with eliminating 2 or 3 of them, and see what happens? -
I'm at the beginning stages of getting weight loss surgery, and one of the requirements from my insurance is a 3-month medically-supervised diet with my PCP. My surgeon also wants me to lose at least 20 pounds prior to surgery, but the more, the better. I went to my PCP last week and told her about my decision to have weight loss surgery (which she supported) and the requirement for a 3-month medically-supervised diet, and she basically just gave me some pamphlets on healthy eating, which are, frankly, no help at all. I mean, I already know that kale is healthier than pizza. I've done a lot of fad/crash diets in my life, and as you can probably guess, they did not work in the long term, so I'm hesitant to go in that direction again. My surgery will probably be in July and I don't want to start regaining before I even have the surgery. I started intermittent fasting (16 hours fasting, 8 hours when I can eat) a few weeks ago, and that's going ok. I haven't had much trouble sticking with it, and I actually like skipping breakfast because it's one fewer thing to do in the morning. I also think it's helping me to get out of the habit of snacking, and sometimes I even stretch the 16 hours of fasting to 18 or more. However, I still have unhealthy eating habits during the times when I eat, and I'm not sure if I can lose enough weight through intermittent fasting alone. For those of you who had to lose at least 20 pounds before surgery (not counting the pre-op liquid diet), how did you do it?
