7 weeks post op and not hungry
Mel36695 replied to jenngraham9's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
90% of my hunger is "head hunger." I'm 2 weeks post OP and rarely feel true hunger (the stomach growling, aching hunger, the way hunger is SUPPOSED to feel when it is real). As far as protein, I'm getting plenty!!! I highly recommend a tasteless powder by "Genepro: next generation protein powder." The scoop is much smaller and you get a full 30 grams of protein. Plus it's less calories than most: 60 calories. I even put a scoop in my water, for real. I taste a hint of it but it is a clean, very mild taste. Add it to your broth if you're drinking that. You might try that. Powdered skim milk, peanut butter powder. Oikos zero Greek yogurt. All good options! Sent from my SM-G892U using BariatricPal mobile app -
This is probably going to be it for me today unless I have a protein drink later. Got some stomach flu situation happening... Coffee, fairlife milk and genepro with sugar free toriani: brown sugar cinnamon flavor Stir fry with chicken, veggies, garlic, ginger, peanut sauce

February 2019 weight loss buds
ldawn replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m having RNY on Feb 5th! I have a 2 week liquid pre-op diet where they want me to drink 4-5 protein drinks a day. That makes me nervous. I barely tolerate the ready to drink premier protein. I bought the sample pack of Unjury and syntrax nectar and also Isopure vanilla and genepro unflavored. I’m sure I will find something in there I like. I also have a variety of crystal light, sf jello and sf popsicles, and broth for my fluids. Anyone have suggestions for something else I need? Oh, and I have my post op bariatric advantage multi vitamin, calcium, b12, and iron. -
January surgeries?!

Id like to try Devotion Nutrition's angel food cake and their flex flavors. But, I've been using GenePro. 30 grams protein in 1 tablespoon. -
Morning Nausea
Naughty Glitter Goddess replied to LesbianDad30's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've always been a breakfast eater and that stopped cold turkey since surgery (aug). I'm not nauseous in the mornings anymore but breakfast just sounds terrible. And when I force myself to eat it, I don't feel well. I do drink a protein coffee with Fairlife milk, coffee, genepro and SF toriani in the mornings. Eat my first real meal after the gym, 9 or 10am. My nutritionist does not love that plan but says I can go with it for now if I make sure to eat a small snack after dinner. They're not kidding when they say EVERYTHING changes. Good luck on your recovery and congrats on you surgery. Feels great to take excellent care of yourself! -
Had my surgery on 12/10. About to go into my second week of pureed foods. I’ve been really good about following the post-op instructions. Does the hunger ever go away? A big reason I went ahead with the surgery was that I was told that with gastric sleeve, you don’t feel so hungry. Honestly, I was relying on that. For the past few weeks I crave everything I see on tv, my husband eats, etc. And I feel hungry enough that I could eat that entire burger and fries, or two slices of pizza (my usual pizza intake before surgery), or whatever. It’s not just bad foods. Good healthy food also makes me salivate. Obviously I don’t, because it’s not allowed. But I was hoping that I wouldn’t be so hungry, which makes the cravings worse. Also, when I eat my pureed food, I can get in between 3-4 oz. And I eat tiny spoonfuls and very slowly (30-40 mins). When I stop, it’s not because my stomach feels full/satisfied. It’s because I feel pain in my stomach. Does that make sense? And an hour later I think I feel hungry again but by this point I’m trying to get fluids with Genepro in. I just basically feel hungry all day. Even though I eat 4 times a day and I’m getting my fluids in.

these came out really good. 1 1/2 cup of grated cauliflower, 1 egg, and 1 cup of shredded cheese.. mix in a food processor. I added 2 scoops of genepro to add extra protein. use 1/4 and spread into circles on greased cookie sheet. bake for 12 min and let cool. Came out really good!

Harder Than Expected, and Easier Than Expected?
sillykitty replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Premier Protein's situation isn't comparable. PP had 26.8 and 28.3 grams of protein vs. the 30 grams advertised. In the lawsuit against Genepro claimed they had only 10 grams when they advertised 30, and Genepro didn't dispute that claim. -

Genepro has been sued, and lost for lying about their protein content, they didn't even bother to show up in court to defend themselves. A very shady and deceptive company. https://casetext.com/case/si03-inc-v-musclegen-research-inc -
The post-op surgical instructions vary significantly from surgeon to surgeon and program to program, but in my case the liquid diet was 2 weeks pre-op and 3 weeks post-op. The cream of wheat option is that it is mixed with skim milk (or unsweetened almond milk) to a loose, 'pourable' consistency. I add 30 grams of unflavored Genepro powder and it works fine. No problems with taste or digestion so far.

if you drink coffee use the shakes as creamer. Get some sugar free syrup and add flavor to the shakes to help the taste. I have heard some people say they add a little water to thin it out some. I also get Protein2o. That has 15g of protein and can be used to substitute some of the shakes. Premier also has a clear protein drink. I am now 6 weeks out and still have to drink shakes, but i have set aside the ready made ones for when i am on the go and bought 25g per scoop 100%whey and i make my own shakes now. It helps to change it up. Being 6 days out you are on full liquids probably.. Get some genepro.. its unflavored and can be mixed in your soups.. it has 30g per scoop ( and the scoops are tiny -so you get a lot out of the little bit). Hope this helps. -
A metallic taste in the mouth could also be a sign that your body is in ketosis. Which isn't all beyond the realm of possibility, seeing as your sugars are drastically reduced and a lot of your culinary options starting out are sugar-free. As a birthday treat, I have some decaf coffee from Starbucks. I've added some Atkins shake plus some Genepro (I know some people don't like Genepro, but I spent money on it and I WILL finish the bag.) It's SO yummy. I have been struggling with nausea for the past few days, unfortunately.

OK, so I heard of the lawsuit thing, but they're still selling the product. Have they corrected the formulation? They boast 3x better absorption than traditional whey. There's apparently a "Gen2" formula. From all the reviews I read, it seems great.

Intermittent Fasting Questions
FluffyChix replied to mousecat88's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Oh wow. Really? We were given a book/binder at the 1st RD appointment with all of that information in it and it included post-op scheduled food stages and advancement schedules with sample meals. If you Google Post Op RNY diets you will see several of them. Now whether they mirror your doc's advice or not, who knows. Right? LOL in the early days I had a ton of energy (many do). So I just used that time to my advantage and I took a nap. Every live long day. I work at home. And your schedule sounds fine, but why not add a couple ounce of protein drink in a morning decaf at around 7? Then add another couple ounces of protein drink or a high protein chocolate milk (low carb low sugar) before bed at 7pm? That way you're getting in more liquids and more protein? LC Choco Milk 8fl oz Fairlife Fat Free Milk (high protein) 1/3-1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder (or genepro--whatevs) SF Hershey's Chocolate Syrup You can make it into hot cocoa if you want--just mix the protein up cold first and slowly warm it in the micro. -
I know every program is different but my dr warned me NOT to use GENEPRO, as he believed it doesn’t contain the protein it says and can lead to serious problems. Just an FYI. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

So I’ve moved on to smooth consistency food today. It’s amazing how quickly I fill up. The best thing I ate today was 1/4 cup of mashed potato with a scoop of genepro protein (30 grams) and a tablespoon of salsa.

Every six hours would be a lot! I have not tried isopure, but if it is a clear, maybe you could mix it with some crystal light. I just started using genepro and it is nice to be able to mix it in my crystal light..that way I am getting protein and liquid at the same time:)

I found if I did not get my protein and water in I stalled. I genepro feom Amazon, GNC has it as well. It is a small amount of powder for 30gm of protein. I add it to my water with some crystal light or MIO. Can get 60 to 90gm in easily while also getting your water in.

Try genepro. Mix it with crystal light, water or whatever liquid you’re allowed to have. If you mix it with warm broth, mix it first with cold water and add slowly to broth. Odorless and tasteless. I still use it

Ae2018- my surgery is in 5 days. No pre-op diet for me but I am watching my food intake. Clear liquids only the day before. I am fairly certain protein shakes will be too sweet for me post op and I have GenePro protein powder which I tried with chicken bullion, not a fan. I plan on making Jell-O shots this weekend with it. I tried chicken broth soup from Unjury and LOVED it so I ordered plenty. I’m trying to stay out of the public as much as possible due to it being cold and flu season and I am not trying to get sick and have surgery postponed so I have stocked up on crystal light and flavored waters as well.

I have an unflavored one by Genepro but i am new at doing this.. I havent bought any of the flavored powders yet as my doctor recommended the genepro because it can be added to foods without changing flavors

I am on day 4 of puree. The first 3 days i seriously felt like i was over stuffing myself. Today i cut it back to 2 2ounce meals and broke them both into 2.. so 4 times.. but i did it during the day only and am finished.. Only i also added genepro (30g) of protein to the food.. half scoop in each.. I also had my protein shake at some point. I may move the shake to lunch, have a scrambled egg for breakfast and leave the second course of protein for dinner. I had to try something different because eating 2 ounces at once.. was way too much and i was getting the pressure in the chest.

I got Genepro from Amazon on Prime Deliery. Today is the first day i used it and i feel oh so good about getting all my protein in before i leave work. Now i can focus the rest of my night on water intake since i still have about 30 ounces to go.. and if i really want something i will have a popcicle.

I have been using the Premier for post op. Two more days LOL.. Then i am on to Puree and i have genepro to mix in with food when the time comes, i think for now my doctors orders are one protein shake a day during the puree stage.
