    Regrets...anyone?

    I have a hard time with negativity so i try and stay away from it because it just brings me down , i figure my SX will be sometime in October i am in the begining stages as i have my second interv iew with the surgeon on the 21st of this month to see if i am a " eligible canidate " god willing i am i am so uncomfortable lately i am feeling bloated all the time and food is just a big turn off for me i am fed up with always trying to figure out what i am having for breakfast lunch and dinner does anyone have that struggle who has not had the SX yet , anyway i have an appt i wish i could post some more so i dont want to be late , i love this site there are so many genunine nice people who have helped me so much , i will post more later on today if i get the chance, god bless to you all.     Medicare

    So I had a lap band - approved by Fed BCBS in 2011, they also approved the removal of it 2021. Now it’s 2022 and Medicare is my primary and FedBCBS is second. They said will just piggy back from what Medicare won’t cover. Anyone here have experience with Medicare? Wait times once the pkg is submitted? Any info would help. Just getting started, and going through the process 3 mo dietician- psych appt etc. even though I have Gastroparesis now. Thanks
  3. I've dug out a bunch of old jeans... some of which I've shrunk through the sizes already. Bought a pair of work pants out of necessity... BTW, the slim fit calf BS is never going to work for my legs no matter how much weight I lose. Nice thing is that I have a row of nearly new dress shirts in the closet waiting for the next 15 to drop off. Funny one... I went to put on a hat and had to adjust the size down, lol my head is getting smaller too!

    I have no advice really bc I’m going under 4/19 also for a sleeve but to say I’m starting to get excited now. I went through the nerves part earlier. But I am very very nervous about the liquid diet I need to start next week. I’m prepared but I still have to cook and shop for two teenage boys so that is going to be tough. Good luck and congrats!

  7. Hello fellow DSers I have recently gained a few lbs and I’m freaking out. About 10 since fall with about 5-6 in the past 2 weeks (due to a bed rest situation/no exercise situation from a non related medical procedure I think). I am normally very active. I also do intermittent fasting. I work out about 2 hours a day 7 days a week with few exceptions. But to be honest I’m a terrible eater. I’m a sugar and carb addict and live my life a slave to my upset stomach (ds related) Again to be honest that has worked for me 2 years out I’ve lost 100% of my excess weight but it’s not working anymore. I went from 283 to 138 and am now about 148. How have you all handled these weight gains if you have had them? I’m afraid of the slippery slope. Should I go back to basics? Proteins and veggies? This is such a weird statement but I feel like the sugar is what has helped me get here bc I don’t keep the calories in (ya know) and I’m afraid to give it up. Any advise appreciated. TIA

    February 2019 weight loss buds

    My sleeve is so unpredictable. I’ll have days where I swear I can eat like a “normal” person and I honestly forget I’m sleeved. Then I’ll have days where a boiled egg fills me up for hours and I have zero interest in eating. What’s even weirder is that my husband- who has NOT had any bari surgery- eats a lot like me and sometimes he runs into restriction. Tonite we had date night and went to one of our favorite pubs. We split a chicken sandwich with fries, each had 1 cocktail and 1 beer. We didn’t even manage to finish half of our halves of the sandwich and also failed to drink over half our beers! We laughed that we were failing so bad at splurging. One thing that is kind of alarming me is that my acid reflux seems to be kicked in overdrive lately. I’m about to really clean up my eating and drinking prepping for this next foot surgery, so I’m hoping to catch a break from the constant heartburn. I really, really, really am happy with where I am and the LAST thing I want is a revision due to this reflux. I love my sleeve— I don’t want a pouch. I don’t have the best tips to remember to drink water bc I guzzle down 2/3 of my daily water before I eat for the first time of the day. I’ll literally have around 60 ounces of water between waking up and eating around 10-11 am, then drink maybe 12-16 more the whole rest of the day. It tends to leave me feeling somewhat dehydrated by bedtime, but bedtime is when I will “treat” myself to my Coke Zero. My hair never really came back. It’s still fairly thin, but I will never regret having the VGS. Good God, I hope the kidney stone thing never happens to me: I’m a wimp when it comes to stuff like that.

    If your paperwork is already submitted, you’re good to go. If not, I would maintain. My surgeons office originally told me that it would only matter what my first weigh in was but then they corrected themselves bc what really mattered was the weight I was at when I did my testing for cardio, pulmonary, psych and nutrition because it was after that they submitted the packet to the insurance.
  12. Hello everyone, I am currently writing this as I have been waiting for almost 5 HOURS for my surgery. Those of you who had the sleeve done in Mexico, how long did you have to wait for your procedure? I was instructed to arrive at San Diego airport at 7am so I can get my testing done. I finished my tests around 9am. It is currently 1:20pm!! I am livid because I have been awake since 3am in order to catch my flight. So far, the nurse came in once. We had to ask for Water for my fiancé, it was never offered. It has been over 12 hours since I had any liquids. Pretty funny when they preach staying hydrated. Is this normal? I feel like this place is pushing me out to only tell me the procedure will be done tomorrow. I don’t recommend this place as of now because I was never informed of the schedule or the rotation of patients. I would also like to add that all rooms next to mine are constantly being checked on. So why am I the only room being ignored or left out? COVID protocol pretty much doesn’t exist, just to wear a mask. Every other review of this place really hyped everything up. It’s too late to back out because they were quick to collect my check.
  13. OMG. My surgery day is tomorrow and I am suppose to be on a liquid diet. I’m studying while my toddler is here eating grapes and he fed me a few grapes and I …..like a dummie , mindlessly ate them!!!!! I wasn’t thinking. I was so into my book. I feel like I ate about 2 or 3 but I don’t even know for sure. You think my surgeon would notice ? It’s a Sunday so I can’t even call to ask . :(

    Negative comments from family members

    I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I agree with others who suggested to work with a therapist or tell your family that the issue is closed, but I realize these are hard things to do and not always an option. Are your family members overweight? Sometimes people say these sorts of things out of jealousy or based on their own experiences. It doesn't make it okay, but at least you can know it's their BS and not about you. I personally eat sweets from time to time - I was told I didn't have to be 100% perfect, just keep my eating choices good 80-90% of the time. But that may not work for everyone. I do agree that celebrating with food probably isn't the best idea, but a treat on your birthday sounds pretty harmless as long as you can enjoy a reasonable portion and it doesn't become a binge. Good luck!

    At least yours will be gone. I was due to be on mine and I skipped the white pills on my bc to try and keep it away but had never tried that so I was worried the whole time that it was going to start all the way up to surgery day. And afterwards too really. It never did thankfully but I would’ve much rather just had it the week before and been done with it.
  16. Salmon is my all time fav fish to cook/eat. Looks really good! I’ve never had cauliflower Mac and cheese but that looks good! May have to see if my hub will make some. My hub loves to cook and is really creative in the kitchen w meals. I hate cooking but do it bc I have to. My hub is about to go bk to the office instead of working from home so I’ll be back on kitchen duty Boy did I get spoiled w that!😩 Send the recipe for the Mac and cheese if you can! 😊
  17. Hello! I love coming back to this thread and reading all the ways ya'll are experiencing life anew post-surgery. Life is bananas for me and all the shares here are a great reminder of the many reasons I had this surgery at a time when I am often too busy to do much of my own reflection. So...thank you to everyone that has taken time to share the wonderful and weird ways you are experiencing life post WLS. My latest NSV is an emotional/psychological win around internalized food and body shame. I have owned a food scale for years and for all those years I felt ashamed about using it, judging myself as so "out of control" that I couldn't manage healthy portions on my own. Rather than a simple tool, I viewed it as a symbol of a failed out-of-control relationship to food. I had a hard time using the food scale because I was embarrassed to keep it in sight or use it in front of anyone. Fast forward to last week...when I got so fed up with other people in my household putting my food scale deep in the cupboard that I taped a sign to it and wrote in bold sharpie "I USE THIS, PLEASE LEAVE ON THE COUNTER FOR ME". Felt zero shame or hesitancy in doing this, just happy to solve the annoying problem of one of my essential tools being hidden away from me. This feels like one of my most important NSVs.

    October surgery friends??

    Checking in, how are my October surgery friends doing? Pretty good here, just got back from a road trip with hubby, I told myself I'd stick to my plan and I did, with lots of activity since the warm weather cooperated. Now I'm weighing 201 & excited bc for many years I had a goal of getting to 200 that I was never able to meet. Hopefully everyone is doing well. Only one more month until 6 and for me that means I can eat without food restrictions. Just in time for spring and summer veggies and a little fruit!

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

    Surgery was yesterday! These past 20 hours so far haven’t been the easiest but I’m surprised that aside from pain and discomfort, my energy level is still high. I feel like myself - just with new (and temporary) limitations. I just got my first clear liquid tray. It’s satisfying bc I’m not hungry but my mouth needed something. The air is the worst part. If you’re surgical team doesn’t immediately give you an incentive spirometer then you should ask for one. I don’t have one but I have been doing the long slow deep breaths in an effort to expand my lungs clear this air. It hurts and it isn’t comfortable but the air is mostly gone for me. So far today I’ve walked a mile and half just walking a single lap of the unit each hour. I’m terrified of blood clots or setbacks. So I’m really disciplining myself. Best of luck to all of you who are on deck!!
  20. Lost 80 pounds in one year (March 2) Feels great, yet feel it should’ve been a lot more Started over 300. I can easily eat 1800 calories (is this normal?!). I see people that say they can’t eat more than 600-800 and that’s definitely not me. I need tips bc I’m only halfway there!

    Since I started puréed foods, I’ve had hummus and saltine crackers (either I ate it too fast or it didn’t agree with me, bc I had chest pains both times I tried it). I also had cottage cheese a couple times without much trouble and refried beans with some melted shredded cheese on top. Today, I tried tuna fish with a tablespoon of mayo, which I also ate with saltine crackers. That was really good. I’m planning to try the recipe for Shelly’s ricotta bake soon. What puréed foods have you tried so far?

  23. My not being able to eat ice cream is a good thing. I don’t even miss it anymore. Cheese I love and yogurt but don’t eat either bc they make me bloated. Plus they mainly cheese is pretty fattening so I’m good w not having it anymore But good to know there are other versions of them. I knew this about yogurt but not about cheeses though. I pretty much eat a lot of the same things over and over. I love love salads so that’s my go to for lunch every day.

    Hello everyone

    I am almost 3 months out and struggle to eat anything resembling a meal because my stomach only allows tiny meals. I buy tiny pots of stuff from the supermarket. I got really fed up of the leftovers I had to throw away. For breakfast I might have a boiled egg or plain yogurt with home made apple sauce { frozen in a ice cube mould } or a passion fruit. Or a banana and peanut butter milkshake Lunch might be some kind of pate on 2 or 3 tiny melba toasts or some seafood in a sauce with steamed veg from a frozen packet. Or a tuna mayo salad, a small baked potato with cheese and a few baked beans, Dinner, chilli, chicken mince curry, Chinese minced chicken in lettuce cups, smoked salmon and scrambled egg, 1/2 Avocado with prawn mayo I try for 2 snacks a day. cream cheese with mini bread sticks, ham rolled with cream cheese, homemade soup made with milk and extra milk powder, mozzerella and tomato, jerky, chicken wings, however you have them, a sausage. Hope I have given you some ideas.
  25. Yes! You made the right decision! Everyone has this exact moment you are experiencing now! You will be able to eat again. You will enjoy food. I'm 5 years post and I eat anything I want. It will take time. Focus on the positives and the end game! This feeling of regret only last a few weeks and then your focus will shift to introducing new food, portion sizes and most important your weight loss. Get creative with your protein. Make it a large part of your life. It's an extremely important part of your success. I'm 5 years post surgery and still drink my protein. If you are a coffee drinker.. and some Vanilla ensure or the like to your coffee. It will bring you comfort and fill you up. For me, I focused less on what I wasn't able to eat and more on what I could eat that gave me the most satisfaction. You can sip on coffee for hours. you can only eat a few bites of eggs. Soups were another big thing for me in the beginning. Why? Bc I could get down more and didn't feel deprived. If I felt like I wanted something sweet. I'd suck on an orange wedge. Try different things to take your mind off the negatives.. they will pass. You will be able to eat and enjoy food again! Start weight was 355 and I'm 140 now.
