Thank goodness someone directed me to this site at our local support meeting last Thursday. Last week I saw my surgeon for my first post op checkup. I was down 30lbs sine December 30th. Since that appt I have not lost a pound. I'm at 3 weeks. I hadn't heard or been told about the 3 week stall! Thank Heaven for all of you. I'm not happy I've stalled but much more at peace knowing others have gone through this too. -
No Weight Loss--like at all
nevermore71 replied to dthree123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes the 3 week stall happens earlier. Especially if dieting before the surgery. The stall generally lasts 2-3 weeks. Hang in there the scale should start moving any day now. We all go through it. Yours is just occurring a bit earlier in the game. -
Hello, I am better. I am almost finish with the antibiotics and I am able to get my food, Protein shakes and Vitamins. I have switch to the Multivitamin patch from this website store because I have taking pills, I hate the taste of them. Soft Foods and Now I'm gaining:
Monique1123 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone! I was hoping I could get some guidance! I feel like ever since I've been told that I can eat soft foods my weight has stayed the same!! My surgery was on July 14th and 1 week later my dr approved me to start soft foods since I was recovering well. Now, one week later I got on the scale only to see that my weight is the exact same!! Now, i've already been told about the dreaded 3-week stall but mine is happening at 2 weekss 😭 Nothing has changed besides eating soft foods and usually, I can only squeeze in dinner. For 2 weeks post op, my eating schedule has been AM Protein shake which takes hours for me to finish. Water Gatorade W/ Protein Water or Crystal light with unflavored protein water. Dinner, eating my protein first then vegetables, and usually ONLY last a couple of bites because I'm not hungry, to begin with. Any suggestions as to what could be going on? -
Butterthebean (members name) has this link on his signature which really helped me. Check it out. It really sounds like you need to do something to shock your system. I just broke through a 3 week stall- I know how it feels- we all don't like being there, that is for sure. I really hope this information helps http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html

I hit that 3 week stalled I've heard about. Any suggestions???

Your body is adjusting, just follow your plan and it will pass. There is an iconic "3 week stall" which you seem to be right around there. Around 3 weeks post-op a lot of people hit a stall. Basically staying at the same weight for a little bit, just still to your plan and it will pass.

Feeling Like a Pig
MustangAli replied to MustangAli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No. I was doing good before the eating once a day. I was doing 2 or 3 small meals a day and then I just wasnt getting hungry. I'm still not. I think its head hunger. But I would literally forget that I hadnt eaten all day. I would get this horrible emprty feeling. Im trying now to eat 2 or 3 small meals a day but its the snacking and the sweets that I think are hindering my weight loss. Im on a 3 week stall right now. I finally got to ONEderland and a total of 52lbs lost so I'm happy about that. Just wondering WTF is wrong with my head that these sweets are tempting me, and Im losing!! I look at a cookie, and I think to myself....there's no way in hell its worth it. Next thing I know...cookie is in my tummy. Ugh!! I was good at fighting my temotation at first so Im hoping it's just a phase? -

I'm also in 3 week stall. I knew about it from reading so many posts on here. It's still discouraging to not see the scale move. We will get through it! -
Hibernation Syndrome - explains depression & 3 week stalls
elcee posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lots of people complain that they have a 3 week stall and lots of people seem to feel depressed and regret having had surgery. I think this is a great explanation as to why. One of the challenges some patients face after weight loss surgery is a condition described as the hibernation syndrome. This is a group of symptoms that include feeling fatigued, depressed and lack of motivation to do any physical activity. Patients often feel upset and become plagued by thoughts that the surgery was as mistake.. This can be quite alarming to patients recovering from the surgery and recognizing the signs assist in getting over this stage in recovery. Hibernation syndrome is common in the first few weeks after the surgery. It is caused by the low number of calories being consumed and the reduced activity associated with this time of healing. The body perceives that it is starving and triggers an evolutionary response that has helped humans survive famines. The main aim of the response is to slow us down to conserve energy and thus resulting in; tiredness, need for sleep, lack of motivation and depression. It is important to understand that these symptoms are normal and will pass with time. Most patients notice improvement in their symptoms around 4-6 weeks after the operation and the improvement is brought by increasing protein in the diet, taking the multivitamin tablets, increasing the metabolic rate with exercise and return to work and the encouragement patients get as they shed the extra weight. A supportive family member or friend is a great help during this time. -
Almost a Month Post Op and this happened :(
iamjamilyn replied to dohickey01's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That was a great article! I did have the 3 week stall and I feel like I am in another stall right now too 6 1/2 out. That news keeps me motivated! Thanks! -
Have you read the threads about stalls post-WLS? If not do a search and you'll find lots of people have experienced a 3 week stall after surgery. What can you do? Continue to follow your surgeon's plan, get in your fluids and Protein everyday and don't cheat. You can do this; keep the faith!

What you are going through is so common, it has a name. The Dreaded 3 Week Stall. Totally normal, and happens to 99% of us. There are literally hundreds of threads in these forums about it. Fear not! It may last a week or 2, but if you keep doing what you are doing, you will start losing again as soon as it's over! Ms Mac says it best..."Stalls are like lovers. Your first won't be your last". Lol.

Why am i not losing weight?
kvdme replied to missypooh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got off the dreaded 3 week stall that started after week one. I had to go to phoenix on business and lost it during that time. I eat my protein from real foods and try to cram in water but for me thats harder than it looks. I lost just under 3 pounds in 2 days so it is dropping again... you will see it drop. -

BroadwayBaby replied to mamamckinzie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone! I was 233 at the time of my surgery and I am currently 215 for a loss post surgery of 18 lbs. I have not lost any weight since August 29 and it is so frustrating! I am tracking my intake at livestrong.com so I guess I am at the 3 week stall which is now on its second week... I am feeling pretty well and trying to walk as much as possible. I'll be glad to add in some weights/strength training when the time comes. Have a great week everyone! K -
My Doctor's say the week 3 stall isn't real...
IveGotThePower replied to Smithsleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your doctor is an idiot.............wait did I say that out loud? My apologies, but not t your doctor, to you for having to listen to that. My 3 week stall was me eating 800 calories a day and not loosing one pound for 20 consecutive days. I weigh twice a day and have it documented. You will find a lot of people with a 3 week stall. Yes, it is true. Doctors are people and trust me when I say, I have dealt with my share of Dr idiots. My initial pcp Doctor that I had been seeing for about 15 years told me he would not recommend the surgery and that he knew that a lot of people have problems with it. So very glad I did my own research and found KNOWLEDGEABLE Doctors who actually knew their stuff and admitted to me that it is a struggle to get other doctors who are not in the field to understand what bariatric surgery is and what it does. We have to take responsibility for our own health and our own health care decisions. The best to you. -
5 week post op & on a 2 week STALL! GOING CRAZY!
Bufflehead replied to Lexuskela's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Virtually everyone goes through a significant stall starting somewhere around week 3. You aren't doing anything wrong, and neither was everyone else who stalled at week 3 before you. Use the search function here and look for "3 week stall" or something similar and you will see what I mean. Stop stressing and put the scale away for a while. Just focus on following your plan to the best of your ability. The weight loss will start up again, probably pretty soon. -

Weight loss wall! Any advice?
BLERDgirl replied to rescue4_u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep it's the dreaded 3 week stall. You aren't doing anything wrong. Your body is just adjusting to all the new changes. Continue meeting your Protein and Fluid goals. Try to get in some regular exercise. If the scale is making you crazy, put it away. -
I am still always tired and I am 4 weeks out and have been nauseous for 4 weeks. I also have pain in my throat and stomach when eating and was told by my regular dr that I haven't given myself time to recoup. I had my surgery on a Wednesday, ended up having to stay overnight, took the rest of that week off, had the weekend off, that Monday was a holiday and I went back to work that Tuesday. But Dr Umbach and everyone in his office is great!!!! I am trying to take some steps backwards and drink more shakes instead of introducing more food because I really don't want to mess this up. I lost 20 lbs the first 2 weeks and nothing since then. But I've seen alot about the dreaded 3 week stall. Mine has turned into a 3 & 4 week stall. I've tried to start working out a bit but was told by my regular dr that it is too soon. Which is confirmed by my weak and sore tummy when I do workout. I walk everyday at work on my breaks. I'm still trying to do some things; work my arms and legs, but I'm trying to take things slower. I have really been pushing myself too much.

Hi Everyone I've been doing some great reading around the forum of people's issues with stalls, in particular, the dreaded 3 week stall. I'm now 4wks post op today, have healed really well and in all ways feel great.... BUT I've been stalled the last two weeks with my weight loss. It's gone up and down by 1kg in the past two weeks (sorry folks, I'm in Aus and we're metric, so don't know the imperial conversion!!). Anyways, I'm consuming approximately 800 calories a day and I'm doing 2-3km walks everyday to every second day. After reading a number of posts by the veterans, who have mentioned increasing calorie content and Water, I'm curious if that could work for me - given I'm already at the ideal calorie intake & doing really well getting my water in. I'm using an app on my phone to record what I'm eating so it tells me how many kj's, how much Protein, fat, sugar, carbs etc are in. As of yesterday, I've finally managed to get to 60grms of protein, but my carbs are 66grms. Which seems to mostly come from having a glass of milk, which my dietician suggested I take to get in protein. As I'm quite terrified the stall is permanent (despite reading comments that it does start again - I don't have much faith it will!!), I'm wondering what the next step is. If I'm in starvation mode but increase my calories, is that going to bugger things up making the body thing "woo hoo!! Foood!!!!" and then gain weight because I've given it more calories?? And on days that I exercise, should I also increase calorie content?? It's almost like a maths equation or a science project! I did ask my surgeon last week, but his only comment was "weight is hard to lose". Which I'm sure most of you would agree with my response of "no shit sherlock"!! (I didn't actually say that to him, but I'm sure he read it on my face!!!). I know I'm probably being an eager beaver. And I'm also committing the cardinal sin of comparing my progress against a friend who had it done in June and I know week for week, she's progressed better than I have, so am having feelings of failing at this. Sorry for the 20 questions folks. I'm just really keen to kick this stall to the curb and get with the losing of weight again. I'm just so bummed it's not changing!!! Cheers RozzieJ

Today, I am 3 weeks out from band to sleeve revision. My 3 week stall started at two weeks out, and I haven't moved since. I am a lightweight (didn't wait to gain all my band weight back when that went down the crapper) and only have another 20-30 lbs to goal. How long did your 3 week stall last? I wonder if I'm done losing already? If I am, so be it, my most pressing need was to make sure that I didn't keep gaining. Also, for reference, I'm eating mostly mushy foods, just starting to work in some actual meat. Yesterday I had turkey lunchmeat for the first time, today I had shredded chicken for the first time. Otherwise I'm doing yogurts, cottage cheese, string cheese, tuna salad, that type of thing. I generally get in my 60-64 oz of Water, and am usually in the 55 -60 g of Protein a day, without using any Protein shakes. Thoughts? How did other lightweights fare?

Are stalls real or do we just make excuses ?
*Lexie* replied to AussieSam's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think the 3 week stall is real and there is a scientific explanation for it out there somewhere. I was doing everything right and didn't lose for 3 weeks. However, any other stall or plateau (pre or post op) have been related to my actions. If I do things right, I lose weight. And I can only speak for myself here.
