  1. Hello! So I was sleeved on 1/28/19 and the first few days were really rough for me getting fluids, especially ANY protein at all. Then I came to realize that my new stomach, at least for the time being, cannot tolerate whey! (Which was obviously a wonderful, vomit-filled experience). I recently discovered fairlife lactose-free protein milk and it has been an absolute life saver, and is allowing me to get at least 60g, woo hoo! Now, a week out, I’m able to drink water pretty “normally” (no chugging of course but normal sized sips) and fuller liquids a little slower, but still pretty normal. Unfortunately, today was my first day at work and while absentmindedly scrolling on my computer, I accidentally gulped down 8oz of the fairlife very quickly, like in a couple minutes. I felt no protest in the moment, but now I feel full and a little gassy and just overall gross. I am hoping that someone else has had this experience and can let me know how quickly they felt better, and, god forbid, if there was any lasting damage. Thanks everyone!

Don't Hit Yourself in the Head with a Hammer Just Yet

Yeah, I read about this! How amazing, what an awesome thing that could be if they could just cure drug addiction so simply! And it would certain sort out the obesity that results just from plain bad habits to that that occurs from a true food addiction. I mean a lot of people get fatter over time due to poor food choices and lack of exercise, not from uncontrollable addiction to food. But those are the people that generally lose well without a lap band! If we're here on this forum reading this, we're probably all addicts to some degree. That's the beauty of the band though - maybe we wont all be having revision surgery in 10 years, we'll be lining up to have the band removed and get our heads fixed.

Jeffrey, All is good, i will be 2 years out from the op in May. I am very happy with the op and the results. I am nearly 53 now but I feel 10 years younger. Maintaining is easy and I think getting the VSG was one of the best decisions of my life. Jane x

    Learning to Enjoy Life

Now that I have lost all my excess weight, I have developed a new lifestyle....I still enjoy food now as much as ever...along with drink, parties, etc etc.... ...I can do all things, just nothing in excess...the WLS, specifically lap band for me, prohibits me and takes away the urge to be a glutton.... I don't need to eat to the point of being stuffed anymore, and frankly I have no desire to...take it or leave it. I don't worry about calories anymore, Diet is a four letter word I will never have to do again....the diabetes, cholesterol, high BP, etc, etc are all gone! I have no fear of ever being fat again.... I am enjoying life, and all it has to offer, more now than I have in a long time. (I'm 63 years old) All the result of WLS...something I could not accomplish on my own. Bottom line....over a 24hr period, I eat less, WAY less, ( a 1/10?) than I used to....what I do eat I try to make the most of nutritionally...and I stay as active as possible, a real health and fitness addict.......a new Lifestyle that feels great! Over the past few years, I have found this to be true for me, having been on cruises, vacations to foreign countries, business travel, weddings, parties, picnics, holiday family get togethers....I have no fear and enjoy myself at them all! It's a new way of living.....opposite from the way I was that made me Obese and unhealthy to death's doorstep There is life after weight loss!!! And you know what? I am not ashamed that it was EASY! Why should I not want to admit it?? (learning and breaking old habits was the hard part) I don't care what other people may think....When it comes to this, it's all about me.
  6. I got mine from escali.com because they're pretty reliable. One scale I got from them is almost 10 years old. You can get a digital scale that weighs in both ounces and grams, to the nearest 10th of an ounce and up to 6 lbs (making it versatile for other uses) for about $30 or $40. .

    Dr. Kuri patients???

I am counting down the days, it will soon be hours. I leave for Mexico on Wednesday and surgery on Thursday (01/18/2007). I am so excited!:clap2:
  8. I have a question in with the surgeon, but I wonder if anyone had excessuive thirst following plastic surgeries? I have been tested for diabetes in the last month, so I doubt that is it. I am drinking huge amounts of non caffeinated beverages - Water, Vitamin waters, Protein drinks. My urine is basically clear or close to clear and I have to go often. I realized that due to my fear of swelling I have been avoiding sodium like the plague. It occurred to me that I might be creating an imbalance so I had half an Ostrim Jerky stick and my dinner had canned diced tomatoes as an ingredient - I could taste the salt - so that seems like it would bring me up to the a normally daily level. Anyway, I have been resting, taking it easy and other then some trouble sleeping so I feel like I am doing well. Today did a short trek to the store (I didnt lift a thing but did eat a few samples so I probably got some salt that way to). My surgery was two weeks ago 10/14 - so curious if anyone has insight on this while I await a return message from the surgeon on a sunday night. I should have contacted him Friday, but I attributed it to dehydration from airplane travel home from Mexico.

    Carb. Fiene!!!?!?!?!?!

Okay…..so I am officially 3 weeks post op today, May 20, 2008 and am seriously ready to eat a cow . I have been this way since last week and the doc, oh I love him but hell, told me that as long as I am losing weight he is not too concerned about anything. My issues, I am not eating the 4oz that is suggested, but more like 10-12oz, and he said that is fine because I am losing weight so long as I am not eating crap. I must confess, I did have 3 cookies last week although totally drowned in milk, I did eat them and I told him this:thumbdown:. He asked if that was it and I honestly told him yes. I had not even eaten the recommended oatmeal, mushy cereal, in fact no breads, rice, pasta, etc. Right now, I want to dive my big ol but into a plate of nothing by carbohydrates or a greasy cheeseburger with some chips and queso, but I have refrained. Quitting sugar and, well hell the “good foods” (aka: fattening foods) the way I did was like telling a drug addict, alcoholic or smoker to stop cold turkey. I was told my insurance approved me on April 18 and I needed to start my liquid diets because they were scheduling my surgery for April 25, which ended up getting pushed back to April 29, 2008. Now, I am not ungrateful because I appreciate the opportunity to have this surgery, I am sure as much as any of you, but someone please tell me what I can have because right now I want to cave in and eat something that I know I do not need, should not eat and is totally against what this procedure is for. BTW……I have eaten the sugar free jellos and puddings, the sugar free popsicles and the yogurts, but I think it is the bread my body is craving as I have had ZERO of that (except those three cookies). I feel tired, worn out, not really wanting to do anything, which I am thinking is the lack of carbs as my intake is very minimal right now. Any suggestions would be most appreciated!!!!

  11. Hi All its 3 1/2 years since I have been banded and 1 year since my body lift. I need some help to see if I am just fooling myself and eating too much or If I really OK and should accept myself where I am. Its really frustrating. My top weight was 330 335 in High School. Today I'm 240. The lowest I was was 233 a few months after my body lift when I was recovering. I have been around around this 240 Mark now for a few years! And don't know what I can do to get to my goal which is moving up now to from 225 to 230! I am 6 Ft and a big guy. I have been heavy all my life, my dad and mom were big. So the it's in the Family. The only really thin "ADULT" member of my family is a cousin (HE's ADOPTED!) I was always the biggest guy in the class or room etc. So hear I am. Down 90 lbs from my High and 60 since the band. I work out 3 x a week for 3 years now. Yea I have built muscle but want to loose more. I keep looking for an answer and no one seems to have one for me. My Nutritionist says that my body really likes this weight! At my thinnest was 225 when I was 25, Now I am 55 and 240. My Medical Dr says I am fine! Not on any medications, labs are good. He is really happy where I am. My Lap Band DR says I am a success. Because the band gets you healthy not skinny. My Shrink says! "Live in the Now look where you have come from" Your a big guy and can't change your body type. My Trainer says do more cardio on my off days But I still want to loose some more. I also had a body lift a year ago, the Dr said he took off 10 Lbs but not so with the scale. I was 245 when I had my body lift, so I should be like 235 now but I am hovering around 240. I had gotten down to 233 during the recovery of my body lift. One I got back to the gym it started to up again. I would love to get some other suggestions too. It is frustrating, I know I am building muscle. My chest is almost a big as when I started ( NO MAN BOOBS THOUGH) but my waist went from a 44 to a 36, My Chest from a 52 to like a 48. My Shirt went from XXL to L but now back to XL Because of weight training my chest is getting bigger. Some guy friends have poked my chest and commented about the muscle so I guess that's good but not what I was really aiming for. So really at a loss as to what to do next. I have tried eating more, eating less. Low Carbs, no carbs, normal carbs? The scale goes up if I eat too many carbs or go off my plan. A few days back on its down. I have had the tests done on the amount of calories I should eat. They say around 2,000. I actually have My Nutritionist and I agree around 1500 - 1600. I work out with a trainer 3 x a week, doing mainly strength I really should be doing more cardio on my off days. But I do have bad knees. Guess I am looking for motivation or something. I never thought I would have a body this good especially at 55, Yea my abs are fairly good but still see that fat guy, Yea when I look at old photos I know I look much much better but still, want to be thinner but not sure if I am willing to starve. And I can't starve and work out! Just can't do it! " I have tried it! " Any suggestions am I kidding myself or just being ungrateful.
  12. Way to go Sister!!!! 10 lbs down !!! When was the last time you lost 10 lbs so quickly. What is your plan for the scales, Im thinking twice a week. I cant believe I actually want to weigh, that is just so wierd. Usually I avoid the scales like a plaque. So funny.... Dont worry about eating too much, you cant your stomach wont let you. I found I can eat about 3/4 cup Soup, you got to remember alot of that is liquid so it processes quickly, when you move to the soft foods, your intake will be more limited because our stomach will fill up and hold it longer. Your doing FANTASTIC!!!!

    Pain

I was given a morphine drip after surgery...I would press a button every 10 minutes and it would give me a dose...then they took me off that and gave me 2 percocet tabs every 4 hours...now being home they have me a prescription of oxycodene (1 tab every four hours) for pain...but it all depends on your doctor...if you explain to them your passed experience with morphine maybe they can give you something different for the pain.
  14. ME TOO!! I was banded Jan. 15th and went back for my 12 weks check up and wwas in "One-derland" for the first time in about 10 years as well!! Congrats to you and good luck as you continue your journey. Teresa

    Going back to the gym

You have had a life change here girl! Start off slow, don't expect to be able to handle the gym right off. . . i started off with 10 minutes on the treadmill and 5 to 6 minutes on the ellipitical, slowly increasing the time by 1 minute each week. . . now i'm up to 30 minutes on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the ellipitical. . .i've added some weights in there too. . . but i haven't gone in a while, life is too demanding and there are priorities beyone the gym. . . good luck!

Most unusual food in your tracker..?

I put in my vitamins. Mainly so I can remember to take them. But they count as almost 10 calories. Lol.

    Waiting process

I'm waiting on insurance approval now too. After going through the 6mos of pre-op appts I met with my surgeon yesterday. He and his staff told me that it could take 4-6 weeks before surgery. Unfortunately my employer changed our insurance starting Jan 01.... that could throw a wrench in and slow down the approval. Ugh.. I just want to get this over with and move on.

    Stuck for 3 months

I had VSG on 10/20 , and haven't lost any weight since Thanksgiving. What gives? I've only lost 21 lbs total.
  20. Hi all, I had my surgery 10/8/2012, no problems at all, no pain no gas. I feel like I haven't had any surgery at all. I'm down 16lbs weighed on 10/17. I have not weighed myself since but plan to do so 10/31.

Today I feel great and have for about 6 days, finally sleeping through the night and that dreaded gas is finally gone. All the stapls have been removed and feeling like a normal person. Am down 15 pounds for Spet. not bad considering I was banded on the 14th. My goal for Oct is also 15 pounds than for nov and dec I will reduce it to 10 pounds per month. I walked the dog this am and decided to dust off my bike! Went four miles but also feel off and landed on my side as I was tryng to change gears going up a huge hill. Not smart!! Only a scraped elbow and knee, hubby was afraid I hurt myself but am OK!!! Made a committment with all they other sept bandsters to exercise every day in Oct to see how much we cans shed!! Will keep you posted!!
  22. I was open with my kids too (19, 16, and 8) ... For the youngest, I told him that mommy needed her tummy fixed because it made her want to eat too much. I showed him some diagrams and he thought it was kinda cool - but not very interested. What was funny was when I returned home. He had gotten it in his head that I would come home skinny. Boy! Did I disappoint him! But, now he makes comments like "I like hugging you and reaching all the way around". Makes me smile everytime!
  23. Can anyone recommend a reputable consignment store where I can take the clothes I've "under-grown" in Southern California, specifically in the Orange County area? I have 10 bags of new (most still with the tags on them) 3X 26/28 clothes that I would like to sell. I gave away 21 bags of clothes for donation and it felt wonderful! Thank you! Deann

    My Journey

I was sleeved by Dr. Nick on 3/8/11!! He's a GREAT dr! I used Forest Park Medical Center and it was a wonderful place! I'm 10 days post-op and am SO glad I picked Dr. Nick and the sleeve! I lost 8.2 lbs my first week! I finally feel like I can actually get all this weight off FOREVER!! GL!! (If you have any questions....ask away! I'll do my best to answer them!)
  25. And I'm alive to live to tell about it.as everyone knows I've had my highs and lows on what this entire experience has done to me and I was made a vowel to myself that I wouldn't make it more or less what what it was. To say the least I regret it. I am almost repulsed with stepping on a scale everyday. I look at a scale and want to run out of the house. Started the journey back on December 20,212 and thought it was the best decision I have ever made. Fast forward to 7 weeks post op and I've had 2 additional surgeries ave hospitalized for the last 10 days. Better days are ahead I can feel. I'm working with a world glass team and they know they're stuff. I'm eating drinking and having urinations and bowel movements. Had tomato bisque with cranberry juice and sorbet for dinner. It was yummy. Within about 10 minutes of that was off to restroom letting it all out. My stent is set to come out this upcoming Tuesday and I'm so glad for that! Hopefully this is the beginning of the new sleeve for me. Some stats; SW: 256 CW: 209 GE: 140 Almost out of the 200s. Would not have been able to do that in 7 weeks. Good bye 46 pounds!
