  1. Hi Mike,

Yes, I had surgery on March 4th and it went really well. My appetite has been ferocious the past couple of days. Which makes me think I'm healing! Hope all is well with your recovery. I'm not in too much pain anymore. Don't know how much weight I've lost. Want it to be a surprise on my first office visit later this month. How are you feeling?

  2. Great job on your weight loss! Keep up the good work!!!

  3. Hi Ellen,

I'm so sorry, I just saw that my response from before didn't post. I'm doing great, between 8-18 pounds away from my ideal weight for my height according to Dr. McVay, but if I choose I could lose more. So, that's exciting. I've lost 87 pounds so far. My birthday is coming up on the 23d so my parents are flying in for 2 weeks...they arrive this coming Wednesday, I can't wait!!

  4. Now telling people. I have told everyone that has asked, my family, friends and a couple of people at work but I dont talk about it openly with people I dont know that well because I think some people will think its a waste of NHS money that could be spent on more important operations. I dont want to have to explain myself to strangers so the people that know already understand what I have been through with my weight. We had a TV star here that had the band but told everyone that she did it all herself and the press attacked her when it was revealed she had a band. And I totally disagree with deceiving people so in the future if someone asks how Im losing weight I will be honest.

  5. So I just wanted to stop by and tell you how amazing your progress is and inspirational! My high weight was 361, consult was 353, surgery day was 337 and I'm now 258. I know another 50 lbs is going to look great! You look amazing!

  6. i click REPORT i think everyone who read that offending post click REPORT. i think you are very pretty and by the look of it you are doing a great job with losing your weight so dont let that ahole make you feel bad

  7. I am having surgery next week. I am so happy for you and your weight loss! I am inspired by you. Thank you!

  8. Bobbie:

Plateaus can be demotivating. Now it's time to get back on track. If you're not sure why you are plateauing try journalling and kick up your exercise some if you can. Another thing to try is to mix up your foods. Still make healthy choices, but different foods than what you usually eat. It sounds like you need your mind adjusted, not your band. I've said that to my band surgeon many times about myself. So, take a step back and think about all that you've accomplished and tell yourself to get back on track so that you can accomplish more. Think about it one pound at a time and I think it's less overwhelming. My weight is stable and my exercise is starting to pick up with the improvement in the weather. Saturday I took a 7 mile walk. Tonight a fellow bandster is coming over so we can walk my hill for an hour. Take care. Sue

  9. Hi..Here's my latest photo. Your were right, starting losing weight again..Down 25 lbs post surgery..How are you?

  10. Stop it now. Plateaus end - they always do - but don't let this one end with a weight gain. Keep on doing what you know you should and can do. Can you share with me whatever it is that is going on in your life? We are all in this together

  11. Sorry i now u were excited for that. How's gabby? Sienna has been sick a lot with her asthma starting up, shes been on her nebulizer every 4 hours n 2 different antiobiotics. Its been a mess....... I'm goen to the surgeon n definately getten my band tightened......... i feel like i havent lost any weight. :(

  12. Hey Sharon! Surgery was relatively easy actually! I had pain around my port site for about a two weeks and had some gas pains that lasted for about a week and a half. I was up and walking within 3 hours of surgery (they wouldn't let me up sooner) and then I walked off and on all night. I had to stay overnight so I didn't have anything better to do since I couldn't get to sleep on my back!

I'm a month out now, and to be honest, I'm a lucky bandster, I'm not hungry. Haven't had a fill since I'm losing weight and can't eat over 1/2 c. of solid proteins. I stay full for 3.5 hours. I exercise 5-6 days/wk.

I spent my 6 month supervised diet learning as much about my new life as possible. I knew to succeed I had to figure out why I ate, when I ate and what to do when I couldn't eat to make myself feel better. It's going to be a lifelong journey - but well worth it!

Congratulations on starting your journey! Good luck with all your pre-surgery steps and feel free to contact me anytime!

  13. Hi Judy........Just read your new blog. The Carribean wow! What a wonderful trip. I am jealous lol. Isn't it great to go through your closet and actually fit into clothes you loved. I won't have to shop to much for a while myself. Have a GREAT time and ENJOY EVERY MINUTE!!!!!

The headache was from the gases rising in my body. I'm doing great, and feeling wonderful. Just had an injection in my hip, and it has made a major difference. I hired a personal trainer and am concentrating on my hip fat lol. That's where I carry most of my weight unfortunately. I need to be the best I can because I am considered high risk. I have an auto-ammune factor and my skin has a hard time healing. I'm ready to GO!!!!Blessings,

    Sue

  14. hi.. i know exacly what you mean!!

My husband was hesitant at fisrt but now 5 months post op he sees that even wit the Band it is not a quick fix. its hard work and it is something i will be working at for the rest of my life. I have now lost 32 lbs since Sept and it is going slow. I have not been prefect but everyday i start new and tell myself that the weight that is comng off will be gove for ever. I have more energy and that changes my attitude.

I hope you get your Husband on board, he cannot relate and that makes it hard. Good luck.

    your kids are adorable.

  15. Thanks!

Since I struggled with my weight all my life, I would have never believed 5 years ago, that I'd be here, trying to pay it forward and help others get the most from this amazing tool.

I love your passion and committment. It's obvious that you are one of those people who is going to do great because you are working really hard to learn how to get the most out of your tool.

One thing I learned on the thread that I started about - do you bend the rules - is that the word rules doesn't work for most of us - we'be been there done that and the hard a fast rules didn't work for many of us as a way of life (I got the word from allergan's site). What I do know is that over the years, there is a lot that I've learned about how to get the most out of this tool, and I'm trying to figure out language for how to share that. Would love to get your ideas about what resonates with you.

BTW, in my 4th year, I get a lot of inspiration from people like you. Thanks for that!

  16. You just did. I try to take the time to encourage others because I know that when someone takes the time to cheer me on, my flagging resolve gets a boost. So thank you. I've been enjoying your blog and your posts, by the way. It's nice to read about someone who actually did lose all their excess weight and not just stall with 30 or 40 pounds still to go. Thank you!

  17. My hunger is awful. I never expected that. However, the doc (and other bandsters' docs) apparently think it's OK to eat as much as we need of the full liquids to keep hunger down. Mine said the three meals a day only applies to more solid foods. So, I'm not messing around with it anymore and will eat liquids whenever I'm hungry. Heck, two ounces of liquid is only a few calories and I don't see how we couldn't lose weight on a 500 calorie diet! I'm on to mushies next Tuesday. I can't wait!!

  18. Hi! Sorry it took so long to get back to you ...lots going on here! I was banded 9/22/09. I started with a lower bmi and was told weight loss would be slow. Now it is at a complete stall and I am partially to blame. I've had a total of 4 fills and still have not reached restriction. I got the band because I am not good at sticking with diets and this past month have fallen back into some bad habits. I'm hoping restriction will put my head back into the diet mode. It's been a long winter and I thought I would have been farther along. Thank you for your inspiration and keep up the good work! Sandy

  19. Im not too sure, I was full of movtivation at the start but now since my weight seems to be at a stand still I feel like I have failed. I keep trying to find that one thing that had me so hyped at first to I can get back to it. I need a work out partner, I used to have one but we lost contact. I haven't had a fill since last month, but I think I have found that spot cause its hard keeping everything down.

  21. Hey Megan, how is it going?? I feel like a failure. I have gained 4 lbs of the 22 I lost since pre op diet.. I cant go to the potty, not since saturday, feel hungry within 3 hours , What the hell, any advice?? Hope you are doing better,,,Cant wait to get a fill, I hope that will help!!! Take care, hope I hear from you soon...... Laura

  22. You're quite welcome Chica!! Yes, I am too darn excited!! I can't wait!! Monday can not get her fast enough!!! I am already packed for the hospital!!! lol!! How is your weight loss journery going? How much have you lost thus far?? You really look amazing!! Keep up the great work mama!!

  23. I'm great how are you? My progress is good for right now, I have been slacking on going to the gym. Don't be concerned!! The first 30-45 days you should focus more on following the doctor's diet and healing...weight loss during that time is just a bonus. Weight fluctuates constantly, I recommend weighing only every week or so. Your fills are more about how food moves through the band and not your weight...just talk to your doc about your concerns. Congrats on your loss so far!!

  24. I'm not sure exactly...my weight loss was gradual and sometimes at a stand still then the next thing you know I would lose 5 pounds easy. It's a marathon not a sprint so just stick to eating right and exercising when you can and the weight will come off
