    NSVs!

So, I had to share. More people are noticing my more recent weight loss and commenting to me that I'm looking good. Awesome. I've also had a guy friend (married, damn it) tell me I needed to eat a biscuit. I was like "I don't need to eat biscuits." You know it was a strange way to say 'you're looking skinny, but it felt good. Wow. I looked thin enough, that I looked like I needed to eat more? Ahmahzing! Anyhow, my loss is slow (a one step forward, two steps back kind of thing), but still headed in the right direction. And, I'm pretty much 29lbs from my official goal weight. Wahoo. I keep that in the back of my mind. I've not come this far, to give up. Go, me!

Some unexpected NSVs have me LOLing in public. You?

ok, now that I know an NSV is a non-scale victory, I have one to share. Fitting comfortably with room to spare in a booth at a restaurant when the last time you went you were (your belly was) hanging over the table, all squeezed in. Separately but the same, being able to swing up and out of the booth easily and smoothly, rather than huffing your way through a 3 step process to get out.

Congratulations on all your NSV's ! It s the little things that count, right ? And since you asked .................. I have to tell this story because I think its hilarious, but my deepest apologies to any one that might be offended !! A few weeks ago my hubby and I were vacationing in upstate NY. As we were leaving the hotel one AM, I saw 2 ladies sitting together outside near their room ..( it was hot, I had a long red maxi dress on, looked nice ) As I walked near them to get to our car, I nodded and said a quiet " Good morning ." They both looked back at me, and one said in a kind of low, sexy voice, "Well,........... good morning !".. My hubby teased me all week long about my " girlfriends !" Im sure you get the picture, but we couldn't stop laughing about it !! You had to be there !!

  8. So yesterday I was at the grocery and I grabbed a hand basket thinking I was only getting a few things. A few turned into a bunch and my basket was quite heavy about halfway through the market. I hefted my basket up onto my hip (which used to be quite ample) and it slid right down my leg. Hmmm.... I tried again. And again. I seriously couldn't figure out WHY my basket didn't rest comfortably on my side like it always has. It took about 3 minutes of pondering this phenomenon before I realized I no longer have big wide cushiony hips on which to rest whatever it is I might need to carry. I seriously chortled with glee startling the produce man. HA! Last week I had a girls' weekend away with my besties. We loaded up the luggage cart with all our stuff and I took my usual place behind the cart as the one who is designated to push it through the lobby. (I'm the only one who can be trusted not to mow innocent people down.) I couldn't budge it. I pushed and I heaved and I shoved that cart and it wouldn't move. I pulled it with all my might. Nope. One hundred plus pounds less of me wasn't going to move it no matter how hard I tried. So bizarre. The ocean was another weird experience for me. I was a lifeguard growing up, both ocean and pool. I am a swimmer and I was even at my fattest. This summer was my first summer in 20+ years "thin". I was tossed around like a rag doll, totally off balance, barely able to gain footing because there is so much less of me. Oh, and I no longer float like I used to. In fact, I sink like a stone unless I give it a whole lotta effort. SO SO not what I'm used to. I love the NSVs like fitting in a theater seat with my purse next to me, shopping in any store, passing by people in narrow aisles without rubbing them with my butt, etc. but some of these off the wall things really throw me off guard and it takes me a while to figure out what the heck is going on. You?

    My Significant NSV!

congratulations, excellent flexibility you go girl! And... what does NSV stand for?
  10. Not weighing was the best advice I received from the site and the best decision I made. I only weigh when I have a doctor's appointment and don't own a scale so there will be 3 months between weighs this time. Today was my first NSV I tried on a pair of size 15 (from a size 22) jeans in the juniors dept and they fit like a glove. I don't get excited from my weight because it seems to be moving slow but moving none the less but those little jeans made me come home and wake my husband up to brag lol... whatever decision you make will be the best for you Good Luck!
  11. The best way to avoid stalls is to continue to follow your meal plan and STAY OFF THE SCALE!!!! Seriously, if you don't weigh, you won't be subjected to depression from the stupid numbers that don't really mean anything. Measure your success by how you feel and NSVs because those are the things that matter. If you follow the plan you will be successful. Or, you can just keep stepping on the scale everyday and keep making yourself miserable.

    Before and After Pics

Yes MsJay!!! I can NOT wait to be able to say the same thing! Awesome NSV!
  13. You have a thumbs up from me. I only weighed a few times for the first 3-4 months. Never suffered through a stall because I never knew if I had one (except when I was sick 2-3 months out and ended up going to the doctor a lot. I didn't lose a thing for a month but didn't care because I was so sick). I did start weighing weekly after awhile, just so I had something to post on my ticker If you've spent any time on these boards you've probably read a lot of posts whining about stalls and slow weight loss. Drives me nuts. You will be so much happier just judging your success by NSV's and how great you feel. Oh yeah, I did take pictures, too. My sister went to TJ with me for surgery and she wanted updates (we live in different states). So glad she made me do that because a picture is worth more than any number on the scale.

    And So Our Journey Begins...

So this lucky duck just went to Disneyland/California Adventure/Ikea from 9/11-9/13 and I walked my little butt off!! It was hot and sunny and humid and magical! I fit comfortably on every ride and in some cases with room to spare. It was really easy to find things to eat, I took a couple quest bars in case of emergency, and only ate 1. I left weighing 246.8 and came back weighing in this morning at 241.6. I think my body really needed the movement to break the slow loss pattern I had put myself in. I shared food when possible or ate small when I wanted, there was no typical snacking, and I was crushing it on the hydration front. The trip was awesome and I can't wait to go again!! In my personal life. I started seeing this guy, I reconnected with on OKCupid.com (I got an email from them that I am ranked one of their most attractive people in my area - NSV), that I knew from HS and I was really nervous to tell him about my surgery, I was pulling a classic Misty and overthinking it. We had our first (and second) meal together yesterday so I knew I had to tell him. He was really supportive and sweet about it. Not one drop of judgement to be found, and I was really relieved. I wasn't aware how stressed about it I was. He is also very much infatuated with my slowly changing body, even though I have a long ways to go he can't stop touching me, evidenced by spending about 9 hours in bed watching movies all day and cuddling. This surgery has given me so much more confidence than I have ever had about my body and in myself and it has been worth every moment of discomfort (of which there have been few). Oh! Random NSV, when I was showering this morning I was washing the soap off my shoulder and boom! I can feel my collarbone. Can't see it very much but I can feel it solidly right there. It was such a shocker, since I have NEVER in my left actually just felt it without searching for it. I'm a very happy lady these days! Thanks for reading!
  15. Hi guys and girls It's been a long time since I've posted. Just an update, I was sleeved in Dec 2013 at 264 pounds 5'2. Here it is today knocking at 100 pound loss mark. But more significantly I was able to do THIS the other night! Haven't done this in years!!!!

    November 2013 Bandsters Check In

Hi Nov band-mates, I am still here, trying to stay encouraged. Have lost 59 pounds since I started this journey, that includes my 2 wk pre-op loss. I read at this general site a lot at first but had to stop because everyone seemed to lose like 60lbs in 4 months, for example, and that made me too depressed since I couldn't lose that fast. I am 63 yrs old with 2 knee replacements. I will be the first to say I hate exercise and do it sporadically but also know that when I am walking, biking and swimming on a regular basis,I lose much better. I have many NSVs and am happy with what I have lost, just want to get in high gear and do better. Mt dr is not unhappy with my loss,he is very conservative with fills and I like him a lot. Glad to find this thread and will be coming here more often. Have a good day !
  17. I'll call that a huge NSV. what a great feeling. congrats. as a male I have no use for your clothes, but best of luck getting some money from them for your new wardrobe!

August post op sleevers: Check in

Hey guys. Motherof5 checking. Everything seems to be going well at 3 weeks out. Still trying be mindful of drinking and eating slowly. Also listening to my tummy when it is full. I do have a fullness indicator which is burping. I also notice that when I stand up I feel even more full. I dumped twice the other day and it was not fun at all. Not being mindful, I mixed undiluted Powerade with my crushed HBP meds. Well, soon after I had severe stomach cramps along with diarrhea and dry heaving. My bariatric binder states that it should be half water and half juice. Not for me though. I need more water than juice. This is just a big learning process with our new tummies. At 13 pounds down and some NSV's, I have no regrets at all. My next appt is on the 22nd, so hopefully my bp will be better. Later Losers!
  20. Tried chicken wings again. I use to love them, not any more. So sad. 4 months out as of tomorrow . NSV this week is that a was able to button my size 22 pants down from size 32. And found out today that my work approved my transfer to Tennessee .

Congratulations @Susan11803 ! Great job done! Keep up the fantastic work :)

  21. Let me preface this. This is an NSV for me. Fat girl all my life, teased by boys from an early age, shunned later, I, (as many of us I'm sure), learned to remain "aloof". Show no interest and they'll leave you alone and not hurt you. This makes for a "cold" and rarely playful adult woman. So the NSV... I'm chatting with this guy I've met on-line who I have a date to meet in a few hours and he flirts a bit. I actually managed to come back in such a way as to elicit the comment, "You're a good flirt"! Funny that that's a milestone for me, but it totally is, to have the kind of confidence to take that kind of risk! So wish me luck with this one. He looks kinda cute and he's funny. And he's a good flirt. LOL

    When do you know?

I think your stats look just fine especially considering what your poor body has had to endure for so long. In fact, you've lost the same as I had at 8 months. At this point you should concentrate on eating as healthy as you can and letting your body heal. If you you stick with the basic plan you will definitely keep losing. It may take a year or two before your body hits it's new normal. But that sure beats remaining obese or years of more yo yo dieting. Just concentrate on the things you can control....water, Vitamins, what and how much you eat, and exercise. Focus on the positive and set NSV goals. Don't obsess over the things you can't control because there is no way to know how much or how fast you will lose. Good luck and here's hoping for a happysleever!

August post op sleevers: Check in

Hello all! Checking in today after my 2 weeks post op visit yesterday. I am down 13 pounds in two weekss, Yay! My bp was 164/90, Nay! I was really hoping that I will not need these dang nabbit pills again. So, I will have to take my crushed bp meds and they are disgusting. My surgeon still have me pureed foods fo another 2 weeks. i showed him my baby food that I made for myself and he said it was too thick, WHAT! He said that if it cannot come through a straw then it is too thick. Now that is a bummer, really. I can't imagine runny chicken. I was extremely pooped yesterday. I didn't want to eat of drink anything. I ended up taking a nap around 12 and then went to bed around 9. It was bad but today I hav energy. My dietician got on me about my shakes so now I am concentrating on them now. My meal plan is the have at least 2 shakes per day (these are 27 grams of Protein a piece). Now, I have to tweek these shakes because I do not like the taste. I add 1 tblspoon of Peanut Butter and a small piece of banana. i will have two high protein Snacks and a small dinner. Also, trying to avoid this diarrhea that I have sometimes. Yesterday was bad.Still taking the 2 Flintstones Complete. I have a few NSV(non scale victories). My ring is loose. I was able to bend down with my knees instead of having my butt in the air, lol. I was also able to cross my legs a little and I notice that my stomach is smaller. Anyone else?

    When do you know?

I've always just followed the program.... 1) minimum 64oz Water. (I usually get more like 70-80oz.); 2) eat when I'm hungry and just until satisfied, not full (this has become even more important the farther out I get because I can eat a lot more than before and if I tried to eat to fullness, I would probably stop losing and /or gain) 3) 60-70g protein/day (I can only do this with a 30-40g Protein smoothie in addition to regular food) 4) Snacks and meals are always protein first, then veggies, fruit and whole grains ( a balanced diet is important for proper nutrition and a healthy body) 5) whole food based Multivitamins and whatever additional supplements your bloodwork indicates you may need (I still take Extra Vitamin D and B12 sublingual, but discontinued Iron and Calcium after labs showed those levels were high) 6) stay active (I don't have a regular exercise routine, but my job and recreational activities are very physical) 7) don't obsess over the scale. (NSV's like how I feel, how I can move, How my clothes fit, how my knees and ankles don't ache everyday, and how my blood pressure is back to normal are all more important to me) At this point I consider myself in maintenance. I guess if I set my goals a lot lower, I might be frustrated, so you may want to readjust your expectations if this is happening to you. Since I was already eating healthy and as much as I want, I haven't changed a lot. I added more fruit and higher fat food options to try and slow my weight loss, but that was 17 pounds ago. I haven't lost anything in about 3 weeks, so I don't know if this is a stall or if I'm done. No way to know and no sense fretting over it. And yes, I do indulge in Desserts, breads, alcohol, and other "no-no's" but always in moderation and completely guilt free.
