    Is this Right?

Hi Steppi, I too had a fill yesterday. I can drink any liquid but food hurts. I might be eating too fast according to the other posts. I just know it hurts. I feel like I will pb if I eat solids, even cottage cheese. For you experts out there how long does this last or is this restriction? I don't want to worry over nothing. I will try waiting a full minute tomorrow to see if that helps. I tried chipped turkey and could not eat but two bites then I thought I would get sick. Any other advice would be appreciated.

Mistakes women make at the gym

I had my 8 week nursing assessment at the gym today. I have avoiding losing weight because I'm preop and borderline BMI for insurance to approve. I have been working out with pretty heavy weights 3-4 times a week and meeting with a trainer once a week. I have intentionally not done a lot of cardio. Today -- weight was the same as last time (intentional) but my body fat % was down 4% and my lean muscle mass was up 10 pounds!!! Woot! Imagine how great my numbers are going to be when I get the food under control!!!! Next Monday can't come fast enough.

    Portion Questions?

I am a 38 BMI and my doctor is requiring 7 days of low-carb as a pre-op diet. If my BMI were higher than 40, he'd just be requiring 14 days of low-carb. The purpose of the pre-op diet is simply to shrink the liver to make surgery easier for the doctor, since the liver must be moved and pinned out of the way in order to get to the stomach. A fatty liver could slip and slide and not stay out of the way, making surgery difficult. This is why a pre-op diet is a good thing! A low-carb diet is one way to shrink the liver fast. A liquid diet (like Optifast) is also another way to shrink a fatty liver just before surgery. Trust me when I say that every doctor is different in what they require pre-op, but as long as you stick to what your doctor says, then everything will be fine. :wink2:

    Sleeved 8/3/2017

I have definitely ate too fast before, it does not feel good afterwards! I also drink while I eat. Oh well!
  7. It will be 5 weeks on Wednesday 5 April. At my two week post op I had lost 18 pounds this include my 11 days opti-fast that was required. I have not lost anything since. It will be three weeks since that weigh in 6 days. Im really trying to stay off the scale because I know it will past but its hard.

    Dumping Syndrome

Hmm I don't think I have had anything like dumping. I have eaten too fast or taken 1 bite too many and have had acid reflux. Nothing like dumping though.

Let's Dish or other meal prep kitchens?

Chancie, there are home delivery and/or pick up business's that have opened up that are not restruants. They do not serve food at their place of business. They are "fresh meal prep kitchens". Basically you call in your order and they deliver on a regular basis. Or, you stop by on your way home and pick it up. Kinda like take out but healthier. It can be pricey. You would have to do your research to make sure they will cook low fat or lo carb or what ever you want. It started as a way for busy Mom and Dad's to give their kids a healthy "home cooked" meal after work, and stop the fast food habit. Now it has expanded to diet concious and gormet also. It can be cheaper than restrauant eating, with kids anyway. I am not sure how it would apply to sleevers. My Dr. friend who is diabetic uses a service in my area 3 to 4 times a week. It works for her. To find them in your area look in the phone book. or call you local hospital and ask if there are services that they know of for diabetics. Call your Chamber of Commerce. I truly think restraunts need to get on top of this. I know Olive Garden does special take out, but, again it is pricey. Polly's pies does a Turkey dinner with all the trimmings for 2 for only $39.00. I bet it would serve four easy. Or-probably 12 sleevers. HAHAHA Anyway. That is what a fresh meal prep kitchen is.

To tell or not to tell

One person knows of my first weight loss procedure (assuming that is they didn't tell anyone else), no one knows I had second one and as far as they are concerned I had gall bladder surgery. In hindsight I should have said hernia operation in case my gall bladder does play up and I need it removed. Do what feels comfortable and is best for you, be ready if you are asked about your weight loss, particularly if it is fast weight loss.
  11. I've been curious about meal prep kitchens for a while now and wondered if anyone on here has any experience with them? I really want to cut down a bit on the eating out that my husband and I do. I am very conscious about making good food choices when we do it, but you never know all of the ingredients. I was thinking this might be a happy medium??? Here's a link to one in my area Let's Dish! - The healthy, fun, fast way to provide great meals for the whole family!. Any experiences?
  12. Im 4 days post op , and Im to be on a month of liquids :cursing: Well Its not so bad at the mo , as its only early days , but in a couple/few weeks Im guessing I will get very bored & possibly hungry ? All surgeons seem to have their own post diet plans . At the mo Im having slim fast diluted with Water , soups diluted with water , Im making up fortified milk and adding some low cal hot choc , low fat ovaline and water & sugar free squash . I also purchased crystal light off of e bay as Im in the uk , and yummy I like that , I add it to my water to jazz it up . Wishing u all well  Sas:thumbup:

    Greetings & Salutations to All!

I was banded a lil over 3 weeks ago and I to have leared fast that the eliptical is my friend!!! I was so happy when my docter gave me the green light to do pretty much whatever I wanted, unless it hurt obviously!! I'm sure you too will get to that point too.
  14. Hi guys, Just wanted to check-in. I'm 5- weeks post op and down 20lbs. I haven't had a fill yet. The scale has been stuck for about 1.5 weeks, so that's a little frustrating. I get hungry but wouldn't call this phase "hell". I stay at about 1000 calories a day and do my best to get my Protein in. Wish I was losing more....sometimes I forget I even have the band. If I eat too fast I do get stuck, but that's probably the only change I've noticed. Other than getting full on a lot less! I hope the scale starts moving again....on Monday I'm part of a fitness challenge at work, so i expect that will help. I want to get below 200 so we can start trying for baby #2. That's 65 pounds away......seems too far!!! I guess I'm feeling a little down even though I know that without the band, there is no way I'd be down 20 lbs......the plateau really sucks and comparing myself to some of the amazing success stories is defeating as well. Wah, Wah, Wah---right? :-)
  15. I also am a month out and lost 16 pounds. I think 16 pounds is a great number for one month. That averages 4 pounds a week that I would never have lost without the sleeve. Sure it may be slower than you would like or not as fast as others weight loss but I am sure weight will continue to come off. I hope you don't get to discouraged.
  16. What are you guys eating after 6 weeks from bypass surgery? Would you guys share a typical day? I struggling with food, or shakes, I don't have any strictures or problem, just my stomach can take certain food, and I get full very fast, I'm not taking 60gr of protein. I'm feeling very discouraged.

Bypass or Sleeve. Times running out

I'm scheduled for July 17th. I've been going to the area support group and talking with others. My surgeon is highly recommended in NC and even my OB/GYN who is 82 highly recommends him and is in support of the sleeve. I'm 5'4, 223. Of course everyone says I'm too small to weigh as much as I do , blah, blah, blah, but I'm 34, large boned and want to run with my almost 9 year old! The Dr. Said with the sleeve I won't get too skinny too fast which may help and give my skin time to catch up without being too droopy. If they move my date up I will let you know how it goes. I'm out all summer as I'm a teacher. Good luck.

    Differences in Plan of Care

Definitely follow YOUR surgeon's instructions. All of his/her post-op care is going to be built around the idea that you are following their plan. If there are problems, it will be easier for the to assess what might be wrong if you are doing what THEY tell you to do. I do think that if you are struggling to drink water, you should discuss that with the surgeon, because forcing yourself to try to drink too much too fast can make things worse. It's definitely important to get in your liquids, but there can be real, physical limitations to doing so if you have excess swelling or inflammation. So that's something you should discuss if it's an issue.

    Diabetics?

Cathy, I am a type 1 diabetic and my weight loss was good at first but I've been at a stall for a while. My doctor told me that my weight loss would not be as fast because of the diabetes.
  22. So I've been trying not to freak out, but I am a little. I'm losing weight scary fast. I had my band in on the 8th, and I've lost 20 pounds. That seems really fast to me. Could it be just Water weight? I'm trying really hard to get enough calories in, I have been tracking them, and writing everything down, and I've been able to get between 900-1000 in each day. I'd like to get 1200, but I feel full after I eat (just started mushies). My plan is to add some more Protein powder into the shakes that I blend up, and maybe have full fat cottage cheese instead of low fat. I think I can get to 1200 that way. If anyone else has some more good suggestions, I would love to hear them! I'm going to peruse the threads for some good mushie recipes. I never thought I'd have to fight to get in enough calories, lol. I assume that the weightloss will slow down soon? The reason I got the band was so that it would be more gradual and in my opinion healthy. This is kind of freaking me out. BUT I do feel really healthy and have tons of energy. Maybe it's just what my body is supposed to do right now. Thanks for all advice ahead of time.
  23. Popeye's red Beans and rice...yum! And a skin off thigh...oh yeah. Wendy's chili is great. Goes down very easily. McDonald's has snack wraps with chicken or burger. That is assuming you can eat chicken or burger. If not, you can order w/o meat and extra cheese. At taco places I do bean burritos or quesadillas. Often I just eat the stuffing out of burritos, as they are generally pretty big. Subway--I eat the stuffing out of sandwiches, DH and I split a footlong. I just leave the bread behind. But you can also get wraps and salads there. pizza, I can do thin crust or eat the topping (not the healthiest choice, but I am maintaining now). Most fast food places have salads now. Nearly all of them with chicken are chicken breast, which gives me problems. When traveling, I stick with things I generally think will go down, even if higher in calories. I have a little 12 volt cooler that we take on road trips. I put cheese sticks, yogurt, Protein drinks, fruit, and things like that in it. I also carry almonds and protein bars for if a place just doesn't have something. But they generally do.
  24. You've got the sleeve I dreamed of. I can get about 2 ounces of anything non-Water in 30 minutes and it goes down like it's hitting a wall. It sounds like you are sipping it down so that's good. I'm 9 days out and the strength comes and goes. I also had my gall bladder removed and have a slight infection at the drain sight. Time is sort of distorted for me. It feels like it's been a lot longer than it has been so I have to keep reminding myself to be patient. Age, previous health, a lot of things play into how fast you will bounce back but it sounds like you are doing well overall.

    regret mode

I agree with all comments made. What you are going through is normal. Drink your fluids very slowly. As time goes on, you'll be able to tolerate the fluids better. Hang in there. it took me a couple of months to be able to drink the required fluids w/o that bloated feeling (or that stuck feeling) coming so quickly. And weeks to tolerate my Protein shakes w/o the dumping syndrome. But stick with it, it truly will get better. When you feel that "stuck" feeling, thats the feeling that my doc told me to look for. Said that was my first sign of being full. As time goes on and your new pouch has adjusted, you won't feel it as quickly. She told me when I get that feeling to back away from the food & fluids until it passes. Told me not to force anything and once it passes i was told to sip on fluids again or eat pop cycles an hour after i tried eating something to prevent dehydration. I was so frustrated with that "stuck" feeling coming so fast, I really didn't want to eat or drink anything. But I knew that would not have been good & I'd end up in the ER. Doc told me to take my time & not to rush my fluids or anything else. She reassured me as time went on, my system would adjust & I'd be able to meet my Fluid & protein intake. I'm almost 8 mons out & have no problems meeting the required fluid or protein intake. I said all of that to say, hang on in there!!!!! It truly will get better. Best of luck to you!!!
