  1. Try to remain mindful of your choices. Do things to destress and get active. Short breaks walking around your house for 5 minutes. Deep breathing (google Four Square Breathing). Go back to logging EVERY bite. Weigh and measure. Stock up on frozen veggies and meats as they are available. Ditch the pasta if possible. Clean! Get active. Go for walks. Intermittent Fast and go to doing alternating days where you restrict eating to OMAD and limit cals that day to 500. Then you alternate with days that are more normal eating and calories. Oh and if you have 3x3 feet of clear space, you can do Leslie Sansone, Walk Away The Pounds on YouTube. 15minutes = 1 mile! Do it 3-4 times per day and you'll be too pooped to pop! Haha! I'm in maintenance and I still do ADF 3-4 days per week to maintain. Also, I have healthy foods in my freezer, pantry, and fridge. I don't allow the FTMMMO in my house. (FTMMMO=Food That Mad Me Morbidly Obese). We broke up. Hopefully, forevs.
  2. It’s mooooondaaaaaaaay. I’m still trying to work out this sleeve life. I’ve realised I have a habit of snacking while making a meal. This is problematic as I end up completely full from a quarter of the snack. Also I eat the snack super fast. This is problematic as it makes me feel like food is queuing in my throat. Subconscious habits are really quite something! @biginjapan I can’t wait til 3 months is past and we can hear stories of people marvelling at your hard work!! I had a coffee the other day and was buzzzzing all day. Hahaha was quite fun. I’m not much of a drinker but I imagine after we hit goal (because we WILL) and have a champagne or so that it will be equally as impactful. Hahahah @cammy are u feeling better after the weekend? Purée foods hopefully will help. @krimson are you doing better with water? It’ll help the poop situation a whole heap. Did you try purées? I live on purées salmon and cottage cheese and protein shakes at the moment. Haha. @maine i find it interesting about the appetite thing. Yesterday I thought that I was hungry and then I looked at my watch and it was lunch time. I can’t work out if it was my brain or if I’m just very subtly empty of food. No other news from me really. I have got to stop weighing myself as yesterday u hadn’t lost anything and was feeling stupidly down about it and made a bad food choice which I had to have words to myself about. I did this surgery to succeed and so am going to limit my weigh ins. The other thing that worries me a little is that my big scar (of the 5) is a little bit raised and ugly looking. Am hoping that it’s not a keloid scar and have ordered some silicon bandaid thingys to help. The other thing I’ve started doing is smothering myself in body oil to try and eventually help the loose skin inevitability. I figured it can’t help. I also read that dry brushing helps stimulate collagen so I bought some dry brushes but haven’t used them. Haha. One thing at a time I guess. Sending the best success vibes to you all Xx
  3. Perfect keep it up = I was insane moving walking and pushing it hard soon after surgery, I really think it was the key to my fast weight dropping

March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!

Thanks for your input @asnirak and @Rearguard. Nice to know I'm not alone and questioning. I don't really have any trouble getting water/tea type drinks down. It worries me a bit that I can drink them pretty fast? Even the Dr. provided shakes are pretty liquidy and I can get 8 oz down w/in 30 mins or so. Hope that's not a bad sign? Question: does the water that it is in all these type of items count towards the water intake count?
  5. Well, we are about to enter week 3 and congratulations to all of the March surgeries completed so far. Because I started my liquid fast on March 1st, I'm at day 15 and counting. My surgery is 72 hours away. I do hope for the best and I'm trying to be as even-headed as possible. There is a lot going on in the world right now and I want to be, above all, safe. So let's all hope for the best and continue to do our due diligence. ❤️
  6. I know, right? It's awful and this always tend to happen over the weekend when you can't call anyone to find out anything. Try not to worry. We are on the bubble for sure and I've been fasting for 15 days and counting. Not to mention having arranged to take time off of work that I would have to either return or take vacation leave (which is what I will probably do because outside of this surgery, I'm not trying to be anywhere else right now).

    Tough Time with Liquid Diet

DO NOT ADVANCE TILL YOUR BODY AND YOUR DOCTOR TELL YOU TO! This is a mind game that we all have been thru, I actually chewed gum after surgery - Be really careful and if you go to fast to the next stage going to be hell and painful. I think you mind is messing with you, Walk the dog, Watch a movie, Get distracted! Nice thing is you are not hungry, Try making yourself some Home made broths or bases, Keep you busy and then you get to eat them.
  8. Hello I am 23yrs old. I am a patient in the bariatric program and have been going through this process for little over a year now. My highest weight was 497, I was scared that I would hit 500. Having that fear I decided to start committing more and put the effort in. It's been a couple months of progress, but I am down to 440. I met the requirements and was finally approved for my surgery. I know I've been wanting this surgery for a long time so I can have a more comfortable life. Knowing that its actually coming up I have had some concerns/fears. First I have never had surgery, so I am scared to go under. I know it's a fast surgery and recovery doesnt seem that long, but still going under for first time is frightening. Then my main fear is loose skin. I know a lot of things contribute to the amount of loose skin and then ways of preventing, but I know at my size I will lose a good amount of weight. I am scared that I will have such excessive loose skin. I know I can do a skin removal surgery, but again I never had surgery. I want to lose the weight, but don't want to see myself with the loose skin. I know my goal weight is 250. I dont know If that makes a difference for it, but yeah. I just now keep looking up ways to prevent all the time. It is really scaring me.

Same. I'm 39 and husband is 43 but he has had lung issues for the last three months so we're laying low too. Not worried about me or the kids so much as bringing it to him. Glad you're feeling so Great! I'll be 7 weeks Monday and had my first salad today and it went okay. Still have issues with chicken breast and haven't tried steak. I feel awesome tho overall as long as I don't eat too fast which I screw up a lot lol Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  10. I am only a few days post op but I am having trouble with the liquid diet. I seem to still want to eat more and I really want to eat solid food/chew or crunch on something. I don’t want to move to the next phase too fast but also don’t know how long I can do liquids only for. Any advice?

    Soft Food Suggestions

Y’all are preaching to the choir! I’m so hungry and not satisfied with eating soft foods! Ugh! It’s so frustrating. Everything I try so far is tolerable. I had hard-boiled eggs today and that is the most full I’ve felt since the first few days after surgery. And I’m having issues with how fast I eat. I eat fast and always have and I’m trying to be more conscious of it. I noticed it today as I was scarring down my eggs. It was only uncomfortable for a moment and I was ready for another egg. Smh.
  12. From what I understand, dumping can be caused from a variety of factors - food moving too quickly into the intestine, or something that your stomach/intestines do not like - it's commonly sugar, but not necessarily. Nausea, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping are all symptoms of early dumping syndrome, and I'm pretty sure that's what happened to me. I did think about lactose intolerance, but I've been drinking yogurt drinks and eating other kinds of yogurt all week (since the first day post-op - given to me by the doctor in the hospital). I had no issues with those, so it's curious that I had a problem here in Japan. That said, I'm laying off any dairy for at least a week just in case. I think it may be because I ate it too fast, or my body didn't like the mix (I added some protein powder to the yogurt). When I was feeling horrible I also had a little bit of a herbal tea popular here in Japan (that I've been drinking for 6+ years) and that just made my symptoms ten times worse. I didn't know if it was because it just inflamed the problem, or added to it. But today I tried it again and within moments of drinking it my stomach was not happy. So the tea (an oolong blend) was definitely another issue. Luckily I only had a couple of sips and did not eat or drink anything else for the rest of the day (other than water), so although I was uncomfortable for a while, it was nothing like the 5 hours of pain I had last night. I'm disappointed though - one thing I love about Japan is all the non-black teas that are available to drink everywhere (this is definitely not a soda-type of country), but if I can't drink them that will lower my liquid choices down to water and herbal teas I can make at home.
  13. I'm about 10 weeks out and last night was the first time I had a bad interaction with food. I don't know if I ate too fast, ate too much or my stomach just didn't like what I ate but wow, I felt terrible. Immediate heartburn then a stomach ache and chills for about 2 hours. I'll definitely be more careful about what and how I ate for a while.
  14. I am 11 days post op and feeling basically normal, aside from still struggling to meet my minimum protein intake. I went back to work at the one week mark. My commute is an hour, and I drove in torrential downpours that first day back. That day was rough. I have felt progressively better since. My incisions still pull a bit when I turn or move a certain way, which is uncomfortable but not really painful. Today is my first day that I have not needed Tylenol. I do take gas-x a few times a day still. I have lost 14 lbs and am very happy with that progress at this point. I have my follow up tomorrow. I am on liquid for the entire first month, and am already looking forward to food of any kind. I’m not liking any of the liquid protein flavors but I’m forcing them in to get the job done. I would say for me, the surgery pain wasn’t all that horrible. The bigger struggle has been adjusting to what a sip is, what makes me full, how to avoid self inflicted pain from drinking too much/too fast, etc. that stuff all has settled in for the most part and I am doing great! Good luck to all of you coming up on surgery dates.
  15. Be sure and check all carb intake, not just sugar itself. There is sugar in milk and milk products. There are carbs in bread, pasta, legumes, and grains. So you may be eating too many carbs without knowing it. Fasting Blood sugar below 100 is NORMAL. Why would they give you insulin producing drugs when blood sugar is normal? My PCP he would give metaformin when my A1C reached 6.5% or fasting blood sugar at 126. They don't give drugs in pre-diabetes. As we know, diabetes is a condition of insulin resistance. So giving drug to produce more insulin when still pre-diabetic willl make it worse. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sweats while eating

Yes, I've gotten it. I'm finding if my stomach doesn't like something, I get them. Or if I eat too fast. It does pass usually within 30 - 60 minutes. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sweats while eating

Yes I get this. It was worse in the beginning but is getting better . I am almost 7 weeks out. For me it definitely happens more when I eat too fast. Or foods too rich. I get sweaty and nauseous and weak and need to sit down. It passes in 30 mins or so. It still happens to be fairly often but not with every meal like it used to. It sucks so I feel ya. January 2020 Surgery Folks

8 weeks post op today. Overall feeling pretty good. Learning what I can handle is a bit challenging at times. I definitely eat too fast! A life of eating on the go is hard to change, but I'm learning sometimes the hard way!! Started at 238 day of surgery, now 203!! 35 lb.'s down....at least 30 more to go!! I'm loosing slowly which I'm okay with. I made this choice as I've been on diets my whole life. Recently Dr. put me on meds for heart, cholesterol and diabetes. I dont want to rely on meds to keep me going, upon discussion with my Dr.'s the surgery was a good option. I've already been taken off of cholesterol and heart meds!! Diabetes meds could have come off, but decided to stay on till next visit. Need to start weights as I'm seeing skin start to get flabby, using moisturizer all the time and Merderma on the scars to reduce them. Congratulations everyone on choosing this journey! 20. @mooki and @biginjapan - hi y’all! I’m happy to hear y’all are recovering well. I’m day 9 post op and I’m feeling a bit weak. I was approved for full liquids but having a lot of nausea. I tried skim milk and experienced the dreaded dumping syndrome. It was terrible. Fast heart rate, nausea, my whole body was hot except my feet and hands were freezing and I wanted to throw up but I couldn’t. Ugh. It lasted 30-45 mins so I guess I’m lactose intolerant now. I got some fair life milk yesterday which is lactose free and I was able to tolerate that, thankfully. I’m waiting on my Bariatric fusion multi-vitamin with iron to arrive today and I’m hoping that will help with the weakness. I was only constipated for the first few days after surgery. Once I was done with the pain meds around day 4-5 I’ve had no issues with bowel movements, in fact, I’m pooped from pooping lol. The color is still much darker than before surgery but I think it’s cause my main nutrition is still chocolate protein shakes. I go back to work this coming Tuesday and kinda anxious about it due to the morning weakness and afternoon tiredness I’ve experienced every day. I start the purée/soft foods phase next week and hopefully adding healthier food options will help with that. I’m doing okay with the moving around. I get tired easily but I’m going to work hard to get in a lot of steps today and the remaining days before going back to work. It’s good to hear from y’all!

    HELP IM STUCK

Surgery works great but it's the lazy way so to speak haveing said that there's others that really need it to save there life....now no one realises when that lap band gets removed often they cut out the stomach youwere not using and and attach the base of you **** shooter to the button of your new smaller stomach with major infections and very very high septicaemia risk.....and lap band removed you go backwards fast be back were you started
  23. Just started my liquid diet today. UGHS. 740 calories. 3 shakes, a cup of bone broth, and sugar-free flavored water. Working with SPED students is going to be a challenge for the next 2 weeks. And I have after school meetings, training, and appointments. If nothing else, time should speed by super fast! @jlow347 Have you tried adding flavorless, non-thickening fiber powder to your fluids? Metamucil makes a good one. Check in with your NUT but since my diet is strictly milk/liquids I'm allowed to do that.

  25. The esults of the biopsy during the scope last Friday showed there are a few h. pylori critters nesting in my stomach (“several” specifically). ☹️ I have not had any GI symptoms other than some minor increased gas in the last several weeks and there were no ulcers found. I would love to know your experience if you had the same happen to you. My Gastro ordered the 3 usual meds - amoxicillin, claritbromycin, and Protonix (although I do not yet know how many days it’s for, it could be 7, 10, or 14). 1. How many days were you prescribed the medications? 2. Did they get rid of the bacteria? 3. Did you feel rotten or was it not that big a deal? 4. How did your Bariatric surgeon react/or what did he/she say about it? 5. Did it delay your surgery? Were you required to retest? i would so appreciate any info you can offer. I have been busting my butt to get everything done as fast as I could because some travel pre-paid may put me in a surgical squeeze play! But now I am worried this bacteria will slow me down ( I was told that they could fast track me once I got 3 dietician visits (weight loss) completed, the scope / biopsy done, and the psych evaluation (the last two are now complete). THANKS 🤗
