Hi fellow teachers. It is good for me to read your posts. I have told no one at school and don't intend to. Our school environment is very toxic. . I am one week post op and trying to figure everything out as to classroom eating. ( it will mostly be protein drinks, so that won't be an issue) this is my retirement year and I am already going through withdrawal. Lots of life changes. Thanks for listening.

Tips for a newbie anyone?
Tiffykins replied to KSUCats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on getting your date set ! ! ! My advice is always the same: 1) Start cutting your portions now, eat off a smaller plate, put your fork down in between in bites 2) Don't buy a bunch of Protein stuff because there is no telling if you'll be able to tolerate them post-op, buy samples 3) Face your food issues now, they operate on our tummies, not our brains. 4) Set small goals to achieve along the way 5) Stay positive 6) Stick to your post-op dietary guidelines, your tummy will thank you. 7) Don't beat yourself up for bad days, they happen, and the next day is a brand new start 8) Stop drinking with your meals now (this is a hard habit to break) and wait 30 minutes after your meal to start drinking again Again, congrats on your date, you'll love the sleeve. -

Ah okay... that makes more sense to me now.... i was wondering why a surgeon would allow Protein shakes and not milk... Try the broth.. the warmer temp might be easier... and itll help keep you hydrated... keep us posted on what the doc says -
Just wanting to know what are some more options for meal plans for day 3-21. Just starting out and so far it's been painfully but I'm looking forward to my weight loss

I fell you on this one... I now can't wait to buy a new coat and winter boots. I've always wanted to invest in really good quality coat and boots. Because of my plus size I was always limited on what I can buy, let's say the options were not appeasing to the eye. -
So today, still sore in abdominal area, get sick everytime I eat anything, feels like it gets caught up in my chest, like ive been punched. Trying to drink plenty of fluids, but very hard to do. Who drinks that much? I have to try and incorperate some protein today, really dreading that. Big sigh. This is a full time job.

Gaining weight back! Help!
HeatherinCA replied to Hopes of a Dream!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's normal when you start eating to gain a little don't worry. As long as it's not a ton of weight! The liquid diet wasn't intended necessarily to make you lose weight, it's Water weight, and your body is healing. Just make sure you are watching your diet. Fill up on things that are low in calories if you can, eat protein! and drink all your water. What are you eating? -
Rapd Weight Loss During Liquid Diet Safe?
elfnow replied to kpay10's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's a medically-supervised "crash" diet... It is NOT a sustainable weight-loss option. having said that, I lost 40 lbs in my first 30 days (pre-surgery diet and 2+ weeks post-surgery). Then I halted for a week as I reintroduced food -

Haven't eaten in three weeks
Lizzy Fu replied to Lizzy Fu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much! I think you're right, it is my body, and I am doing this to get healthy! I don't know if it's that healthy to go 3 weeks with 1 grams of protein each day. I think I'm going to start drinking my shakes at least. You know, we trust our doctors. I just assume that she's telling me not to eat or a reason, you know. I assumed that having the shakes would somehow compromise my surgery, but it hasn't hurt anyone else. to have protein shakes. I'm so confused about her reasoning behind it. -
Thank you! And I hope so! The RD has me on Atkins Protein Shakes, I think I might switch to clear liquid just to be safe? Did u exercise as well or was it just your diet? The dietician didn't even mention exercise...?

Ever tried drinking EAS protein hot?
CathyBFromGa posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was thinking about putting my EAS in the microwave and going for a hot-chocolate type of drink. Warm liquids are working better for me today than cold. Anyone ever try this? TIA ~ CathyB -
I had some issues with pureed. I did tuna with lowfat mayo and onion powder and celery salt. I used the magic bullet and I thought it was moist enough and it wasn't. It was still to hard and it didn't puree well. I tried canned chicken, again too dry. I did a lot of Healthy Request Bean and Bacon. The best way to do this is blend the bean & bacon Soup with very little Water, then add your can of water. The best thing I had was rotisserie Chicken. I didn't use the magic bullet though, I put it in the food processor with real celery (I made sure to cut the sides of it down so there was no strings, and I added real onion. It was almost like a thick dip consistency. It slid down easily and didn't hurt. Some people don't have an issue with their esophagus into the tummy and some of us struggle. You won't know which you are until you get to that point. I'm on soft foods now and I actually cooked three bone in chicken breasts today in the crock pot (it tasted like rotisserie chicken and I had about 1/2 ounce and decided it would be better as chicken salad and I shredded it and did it lightly in the food processor (not as fine as I did for the pureed stage - that I made mushy) and it's a whole lot of Protein, very little carbs and it's great for lunch, a snack or dinner. Make sure your meat is moist and until you see how you do, make sure it's really pureed. I dreamed about the day I would get tuna and it was rough on me. Below also is the Pureed List the doctor gave me, I retyped the list and I posted it in another section. I didn't do any of these but the Tuna & Canned Chicken and again, I didn't puree it enough so it was rough on me. BTW I do not follow this diet suggestion and examples. I'm at 7 weeks and still at 425-475 calories a day and don't snack. Learn to eat slow and chew a lot. With smaller tummy you have to spread meal out. Start taking Vitamins and exercising, you will want muscle to replace lost fat, at least in arms and legs. The doctors I have recommends a good Multivitamin, B-1, B-12, Calcium in certain amounts for the week. While you may save some money by going south of border, you need to prepare for post surgery. With Kaiser they have a two week and four week follow up appointments. They arrange meeting with dietician in month 3-4, you go through routine testing for vitamins... After the surgery you will want the follow up to make sure you are not hurting yourself by not eating right. It is not just reducing calories but getting enough Protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals so you don't hurt your muscles or central nervous system. Count calories and protein in what you eat, read labels for calories, protein, carbohydrates, trans fat. And most important, find shortest route to Salvation Army to donate all those oversized clothes. Good luck!

Good-luck! Just like CarrieP said you may have a rough 1st week, I unfortunately had a harder time, but hang in there no matter what it does get easier. Hopefully you will just have a smooth recovery! I wish I would have had Unjury Chicken soup, unflavored and strawberry sorbet protein powders during my 1st month. The protein powders I use to love prior to surgery, I could not stand them after.

Hi, I got banded last week Wednesday and am currently on liquids. I will see my surgeon, Dr, Ramiro Cavazos from San Antonio on Thursday. Has anyone replaced two meals with protein shakes and is that even a good idea? Please help.

I had my surgery 3/3/2014 - wondering if anyone can advise
Austin123 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am so afraid that I am going to stretch out my stomach I do not think I am eating enough. So I am seeking advise on how much at once should I be worried about eating before this would happen. At this point in my journey I just this week advanced to soft foods. Fortunately, my surgery went well and I've not had any complications. Everly thing I've read said 2 to 3 oz at a time so up until today It has been work to just get in 300 calories a day. I am only drinking 1/2 Protein drink like twice a day. Yesterday I ate 1/2 hot dog ( because am so hungry and it made my stomach sing like a canary) I eat 1/2 of a potato as large as kiwi and it takes me about 15 minutes to get it down. Today I ate it a bit to fast. Today I was so hungry I managed to get a 6 oz glass of milk drank in 10 minutes but it did not make me sick, just very full. I do not want to develop a eating disorder, so any advise is greatly appreciated. -
Welcome!! How exciting for you. Take your time and weigh out your options. I wish you the best in what ever your decision.

At 2 months I had soft baked fish 4 times a day and maybe 1 protein shake.

Did I make a mistake

I just think you're lucky you get mushies at 10 days! LOL I got clear liquids week one, and then got to add in .... protein shakes! (oh wow) but no I agree with the others; if it didn't hurt and it was per your doc's dietary guidelines, then you're fine. -
