Vertical Sleeve Revision To Rny
Kate27 replied to abbybeep's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi, I am just looking into revision do to metabolic reasons and I am not sure I should. I had the sleeve 11/30/I2. I lost 60 lbs. SW 289 CW 229 I have been stuck this weight for almost a year I go back and forth from 232 down to 228. It is soooooooo frustrating. I have been reading up and it seems I may have a issue???? I eat 1200-1300 calories daily sometimes less and it is mostly low carb less than 50 carbs a day. Infact recently I have been doing 20 carbs a day, I don't work out like I should be I do work out at least 2 times a w aim for 3-4 though. This last week I didn't at all becasue I was sick but I am back in the game now. Anyway, I am at my wits end the hospital where I had my surgery thinks I just need to keep trying the 1200 calorie plan. Obviously my body like where it is at! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So just curious if anyone has tried it for weight loss issues. -
My insurance did not have a weight loss requirement but my doctor did. 10% body weight. Think of it this way. The surgeon needs to make his way through your body using a camera and some probes (Highly recommend watching real lap band surgery on youtube not at all bloody) the less stuff ie fat in his way the better. While I had to delay surgery for other health reasons I had lost my 32 pounds (10%) in 3 months.

:help: Hi, I got banded on Nov 18, 05. I'm short, 5'2", and started at 231 lbs. So far I've lost 23.5 lbs. I'm slow...I know, but yesterday I had my third fill....each fill was for 1 cc....so I have 1 cc left to play with in my 10cc band. The doctor said that my band will allow for only a trickle to go through now. Has anyone of you had a similar thing happen.....where you lost really slowly and then it picked up as your band was tightened to just a trickle? If your weight loss picked up only after several fills.......will you please let me know? I'll be anxiously awaiting your reply....I need to hear that there are people who were slow loosers first but then got the ball rolling. I'm kind of loosing faith and I need a boost. Help. Write with your tricks or tips or whatever...just write.

My 3 month 6 day post surgery status update
BajanSleeve posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well, I thank God that I have lost 50 lbs. I have gone down 3 pants sizes which makes me quite happy. I have just gotten back 4 pairs of pants from the tailor that were all taken in. I can do SO much more than what I used to be able to do at almost 300 lbs. I can mow the lawn, weed whack, I can stand up long periods, I can dance, I can bend down and tie shoes and wear enclosed shoes because my feet are not as swollen as they once were. I have far more energy and since my blood sugar is more under control I just feel a lot better in general. So here is the be honest with yourself part. I could be farther along in this process if I were stricter with calorie intake and if I were exercising. I am not writing this so that I can receive lectures - I am choosing to be transparent and honest. I know I could be doing better. I have not lost weight in 3 weeks. I have gained upwards 3 lbs and then got it off but not gone past my last weight loss mark. I have reached the stage where I think the honey moon is over and now I will need to work to keep that scale moving. I can also eat more than I could before. Thankfully I can now eat chicken and I seem to be able to tolerate an egg even though that still makes me feel sick. I find that I am not hungry during the day time but my hunger starts from around 6 pm onwards. I am hoping that the weight I have lost so far will be the catalyst to help motivate me to further changes and incorporate some kind of exercise that I enjoy into my life and be consistent with it. I do have a treadmill in my bedroom - geez - I know. I am not motivated. I by the treadmill. I have found a class on Saturday afternoons that does a community African dance class for adults and I am seriously thinking of that. My only exercise right now is when I mow my 1.5 acre lawn with a push mower. Takes me 3 days and that burns tons of calories but that is only every 3 weeks. In general I do not binge eat. In general I eat good, whole food. I get most of my protein from meat now but I do still use protein powder. I do not always drink my liquid goal. Actually, I don't get it done most days. I will have dark chocolate, ice cream and some chips. In small amounts. I am encouraged though. Encouraged that I can still make the adjustments going forward to reach to at least 100 lbs weight loss in a year. I will not quit. My main goal in this whole journey of VSG is to be able to come off of insulin because of weight loss and day to day controlling my diet. I am at 250 lbs which is still very big. I'd be happy with 60 more lbs off. I will be so happy to make that post when that day comes. I am off to my college reunion where I have not seen friends in 25 years! I am so much bigger than I was back then but grateful that they wont see me at 300 lbs! It will be the first time travelling since VSG so we shall see how the eating regime goes when I am overseas. -
This is not the time to be thinking about losing weight. It's about healing to the point where you will be able to eat solid food. When you get there, park your rate-of-weight-loss expectations. It's greatly unrealistic to expect the same rate that others have. Your body will work as it will. Eat properly, make good food choices, keep a detailed food diary and you'll be fine.* We all want to drop 20 lbs each month. Want whatever you want; it's what you get that counts in this arena. [The food diaries aren't busy work. They come in especially handy if things really are moving stupidly slowly. In that case, it helps to see your practice's RD, taking along a week or two's worth of diaries. S/he'll go over them with you to see where you're going astray.]

Ok so I am just a few weeks shy of 31 and always knew I needed to lose weight. After years of debating WLS and trying JC,WW and what not I have finally decided to go for a sleeve. I don't need a referral and found a great surgeon in my area. I have my first appt with him on Tuesday. He will do a one on one in person information session joined with a consult. I have to have 3 months of supervised weight loss with him. I can't have the surgery until at least Nov 1st due to my insurance but cannot wait. I just have a few questions. 1. Does everyone have a catheter? So not looking forward to this if it's a must. 2. How long did you have to stay in the hospital? 3. Would you do it again? (I'm sure I know the answer to this) 4. I know everyone is different but how long were you off work? How long until you could drive? I am in and out of my car a gazillion times a day for work. TIA

Beginning weight Nov 13th: 243lbs As of Dec 20: 212lbs I feel I should be lighter. I'm extremely itchy from the weight loss. Hair loss is true. Why can't it fall off where I would want it too!!!! Lol Not getting enough water in so I downloaded an app water reminder. I like my protein ready made drinks too much, tastes like chocolate milk.... Might be over drinking those.... I'm a big coffee drinker. So extra sugar added, but I do use fat free half and half with a splash of international delight creamer in my 1st cup, then I put the protein in my cup to sip on that. Began with PCOS, not sure if that will give me a plateau effect. Two kids. 1 home to chase. Need to move more. I've been walking more with my dog but he is huge. Only comments from my husband & Mother they see my face is thinner, different. Like my ,"old smile lines".... Best, Halfsmile Sent from my 9024W using BariatricPal mobile app

Serious about MGB - Please share your surgery experience - Pre/During/Post
JoleneH posted a topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I'm pretty sure I've made my mind up that I need to have this surgery. Please share your experience. How was surgery outside of US? Did you have complications? Weight loss? Scared but really excited. SO tired of being sick and tired because I'm too heavy. Thank you! -
Success with weight loss is dependent on getting the upper hand with your relationship with food. There is a psychology behind eating patterns which have taken WLS patients into the realm of obesity. Though I am not a physician, I do feel that you would benefit to see a nutritionist to devise a healthier eating plan. As a psychology professional, I can say that the other part to your equation is to reign in on your choices of food, and accept that we must adjust our beliefs about food. We must revise our thinking to "eat to live" rather than "live to eat" if we want long term success with weight loss and maintenance. I have found it useful to use sipping Water or other no calorie drinks and distraction to keep my thoughts away from feelings of hunger. And I also use "self talk" and ask myself prior to eating anything which I know I should not have, do I really want this, or would I prefer to continue to move towards my weight loss goal? The band is around your stomach, not your mind. You have an incredibly self empowering tool to use for weight loss... Best wishes....

My pulmonary doctor told me that since I was carrying too much weight on my chest that it couldn't expand properly and that is why my peak flow is quite low and I am quite short of breath. Is there anybody out there that as been banded awhile and had this particular circumstance? I really had a asthma problem after the anesthesia - had to start taking breathing treatments for a couple of weeks. How long did it take to see an improvement in your asthma? Thanks, Kerry

Did anyone's insurance call...
WantToBe replied to bridgetsband's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just beware! Insurance companies sole purpose is to make money! I'm sorry to sound cynical but they do not care about you or your weight loss. Whenever my insurance company calls me I ask questions and terminate the call. They can and I'm sure do at times use the informational provided to them as a basis for their decisions. It is important to always know to whom you are speaking and why they want to know certain things about you. -
I didn't have to have anymore tests, thank God!!! But I do have an appointment with the nutritionist May 19...after that, all my information and test results will be submitted to insurance. But the appointment started out by me getting a "before picture", then getting my blood pressure, weight, and height, with no shoes (which made me shorter by 1/2 inch and made my Bmi go up lol), then I stood on a scale looking thing and held a pole type thing in each hand and it printed off all kinds of wild information like, how any calories I burn on a typical day without exercise, just at rest...it even told how much my right arm, left arm, right leg, left leg, and trunk weighed. I was told by the nutritionist who came in my room for a few minutes that 100 to 105 lb weight loss would be right for me. Then the Dr. came in and said that the sleeve is the surgery he would also recommend for my size...he listened to my heart, my pulse in both sides of my neck, he examined my stomach for hernias and where the incision sites would be, and he checked my ankles. I will have a two day liquid diet before surgery. I will have a drainage tube. He didn't foresee me having problems. I'm hoping my insurance is approved by mid June and surgery is scheuled no later than August 1 because I want to be feeling better by the time my daughter goes back to school August 20! I will update...everyone take care and God Bless!!!

Prepared T-Bone Steak for the family and baked it. Remembering the rules of lapbander's, eat small amounts, so I brought out the trusty scissors and cut mine cup of steak into bite size niblets. Ate slowly and chewed eat piece about 30 times. I was challenging my band, and behold no problems, but that's without any veggies or sides. I have been on soups and mashed potatoes, peas, and pork and beans so i wanted to try something different. I am full and satisfied. In two hours will drink nothing but water prior to retiring for the night. My progress for weight loss is about 2.84 #s a week. Just Sunday I dropped a kilogram (2.2#s) and have maintained it. I was due for my weight had maintained at 109 kg for a week. I am ready for my next FILL too. On 24 Apr 10 I am head to the doc, three hours away for my 4th FILL. Others who have had their 4th have been satisfied and had great restriction, and that's what I am searching for. Thought I would share my experience with you. Wish all lapbanders much success.

Showing during pregnancy
Banana14 replied to Crystal Hobbs's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I haven't told my surgeon I am pregnant. I have an OB that has extensive experience with weight loss surgery pregnancy patients so I have followed her directions. I am scheduled for my follow up next month with my surgeon and will communicate to them at that time that I am pregnant and will follow up after the birth of my baby. That's just the way I chose to go. You do whatever is best for you. I am confident after the birth of my son that I will be able to continue the rest of my weight loss journey. -
Hi! I had my bypass surgery on 1/31/14 and I am feeling better now and ready to get this weight loss jump started!!! I'm in Pearland and was wondering if there were some of you in the Greater Houston area that were looking for some weight loss buddies and what not? Heck, even if you aren't in the area I'd love long distance buddies too. The more the merrier!!

Concerned about hair loss. Remedies?
AZBlackhawk replied to PNWlady12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take 10,000 of biotin per day and sometimes take 15,000. I use the shampoos and conditioners supposedly that help hair loss. I had thick hair and have lost a lot of hair. Like others said, not sure if biotin and all that is futile. I still do it but don't think it helps. I also get over 60 or 70 g of protein daily. Still. Falls. Out. I know it will grow back... -
How long after your surgery did it take to start seeing any results? I AM 2 weeks post op and have lost nothing since the surgery. Yes, I know I'm impatient but with the first 2 weeks consuming nothing more than 2-3 protein shakes on most days and seeing either a gain or plateau, I'm discouraged.

When will I know my surgery date?
Stephanie replied to teedsg's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had all my requirements done by my family Dr which took 6 months, then had to visit the surgeons office.. I say surgeons office because I never met my surgeon until about an hour before the surgery. At the office I met with the PA who made the appt after putting me on the pre op diet that was 2 weeks of strict diet then an appt to come back to check if I was following the diet. I was scheduled for March 1 but when I returned for the last appt the PA said I had an infection and even though I was almost finished taking the antibiotics he rescheduled the surgery for another 2 weeks. I didn't care much for this PA and he never followed up with me except one time after the surgery. I was on my own for the entire weight loss process. So you should have your appointment when they put you on the pre op diet. -

How does one feel after a 4th "Fill". At the Doc's, it only took about three minutes, and shall I say PAINLESS as expected. I did not think about being injected at all during my trip, especially when one bandster knows how it's done anyway-pull shirt up, lay on table, let Doc find port, wipe off first, inject, wipe off again, get up and see if you can drink some water. Once that's done, pay your bill and leave. Of course this time I did not have to pay anything, but we were expecting to pay this time since I passed the three month mark, (7months now). Feelings within an hour after are: a sense of fullness, not wanting to eat, even though you are really hungry cause you did not eat anything all morning. I did manage to eat 12 bites of soup, veggies, some meats at a restruarant right after the doc appointment, and then on the bus ride home, at a rest stop, had 5 or 6 potatoe snacks(korean style) nothing to drink. Was full still. Upon returning home I worked outside for a while, had two sugarless popsicles, and about an hour later had a tuna salad sandwhich. Felt satisfied. My next morning, as usual up early, had coffee, and weighted myself, 104.2kg-a loss. Now at nearly 8 am on Sun I am not hungry, feeling full and content. I feel the pressure around my stomach of fullness. My mind is not thinking about food. I think this 4th "Fill" is my "sweet spot". Will see. Hope I loose 10 to 20 #s by 18 Sep-my date I am scheduled for a trip to the states-3 weeks. Going to be Cool on the airplane- buckling up without an extender-hehehehe. I had to use it once on a small plane ride. Today, is special, my birthday, the big 56. Start exercising on the stationary bike too. Up till now I was not exercising like at a gym, but only in the garden. Now it's time to press. Feelings are: Happy, content, satisfied, positive attitude, no stress, taking one day at a time. I want to thank the Lord,Jesus Christ for guiding me on my straight and narrow path in life. I was baptized 4 July and today I celebrate a new beginning on my Birthday. My purpose in life is real close, I can feel it as I am still wondering what it is. Hope my thoughts and experiences helps others and I wish much success to all my fellow bandsters and those new ones. God Bless.

Ms Know-it-all aint so smart
DeniseNCC1701 replied to Breaking Red's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Breaking Red: Thank you so much for your post. And like Bufflehead said, it could have been written by hundreds+ of us here. I too decided at the start of this process that I was going to throw out everything I knew, or thought I knew, about weight loss, exercise, nutrition, etc… and actually seek out the best team I could and listen to them for a change. I'm early in the process, but I am continuing to work hard at seeking out positive, like-minded people to support me. Be well, everyone… -
Congratulations on your weight loss. Don't be too worried that you may be losing too much. The weight loss phase will come to an end and you will slide into the maintenance phase. It will happen quite naturally. The three most important elements after weight loss surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.
