    An unusual NSV

I had a friend point this out to me as sort of a NSV. It is actually something that never would have happened if I had not had the surgery and lost weight.. I had a small claims case filed in my hometown court. It was a family member who I helped out and was supposed to pay me back, but never did. Long story short I wanted what he owed, so I filed the case. On Sept. 23rd I received a UPS envelope that contained a letter from the tv show "Hot Bench". It is a new daytime court show featuring a three judge panel. They found my case filing and were inviting me to have my case heard on the show. At first I thought I was being punked, no way this was true. I did a Google search and hound out the show was legit. I decided what the heck and replied to them. Less than a week later I was on a flight to Los Angeles!!! We taped the show Tuesday the 30th and I was heading back home Wednesday. It was completely surreal and hard to believe I really went to Hollywood and will be on tv. ( Air date of the show is unknown right now) I never, ever would have considered being on tv at my former weight. Even the size I am now I felt a bit odd, but not enough to keep me from a once in a lifetime opportunity. When do you get an all expense paid trip out to LA and the chance at 15 minutes of fame? ( Literally - 15 minutes. Half hour show split into two 15 minute segments...LOL) It was pretty amazing. And while I cannot tell you the outcome of the case I will encourage you all to watch "Hot Bench" and be looking for me!!!!

August post op sleevers: Check in

don't be nervous. Those are awesome nsv's! Keep us posted.
  6. Have my 6 week checkup on Monday and am NERVOUS. I haven't lost as much as I feel I should have. Don't want to be disappointed but afraid I might be. I have lost 2 pant sizes since surgery and almost 2 shirt sizes. The numbers don't reflect that though. But on the other hand NSV of sitting in a normal lawn chair without overflowing it and being able to reach my feet and still be able to breath! I know sounds silly but I couldn't do it before.
  7. I'm still not always thinking like a thin person. I took out my jeans this morning and just before I put them on, a quick thought went through my head that they wouldn't fit. I knew they would but I still recall easily that fear or unease every time I'd put on my pants when I was obese. I always feared they wouldn't fit and that fear is still there obviously. It's especially hard now beacause the jeans are really small and I don't realize that I'm small alot of the times. Still working on body image issues though it is getting better. The other random thought today is that we really really need to not obsess over the scale. I admit I weigh myself daily. I do it because it helps me early in my maintenance phase. Having said that though, the number cannot determine our outlook for the day either. I went out to dinner Wednesday night and again last night. Wednesday night I had grilled fish, a couple of shrimp, veggies and a little bit of couscous. When I got on the scale in the morning, the number was the same as it had been for several days. I was a little surprised since I've been very compliant. So last night, we went to a restaurant that's supposed to have the best Pasta in all of NYC. My sister in law is leaving for Beijing on Wednesday for work and will be gone for a year. She wanted her last meal in NYC to be her favorite food so we headed to Porsena even though pasta is my trigger food for sure. Well...I stayed in control but ate more carbs than usual. After all...it was the best pasta in the city. (It was really good..lol) I also had a little bit of dessert and two glasses of white wine. So I got on the scale this morning and figured I'd be up at least a pound if not more. I lost almost a pound instead. Just shows you that it's only a number and the numbers can move without rhyme or reason. I'm not feeling like I dodged a bullet today, nor do I feel bad if the scale doesn't go down or stay the same when I'm being especially compliant. I focus on the NSVs instead. The best one last night was not that the food was terrific (which it was) but I walked home from the restaurant. I went across town and had no real issues doing it. A year ago I was bed ridden and days away from my hip replacement surgery. Walking home from the restaurant was better than any number on the scale. OK, sorry for rambling...have a great day, and a great weekend everyone. For those who Celebrate Yom Kippur, have a good holiday and an easy fast.
  8. The NSV's are important as my weight loss is very slow. My daughter doesn't know about the band. I see her watching my shrinking body and hoping I don't fit into her jeans one day. Wink! Wink! We shall see

Awesom nsv! Keep up the good work.
  10. Ok, interesting NSV. When I walk up stairs, I notice my legs not rubbing together as much. Like I can actually realize a thigh gap. TMI, but I don't ever remember having one when I was younger HA!

Hee, Hee, Hee!!! It's only when I walk UP stairs. FUNNY!!!!

  11. Ok, so it probably didn't. But I've had abnormal PAPs for the last 7 years. I get checked twice/year and it ranges from From atypical to high grade. I've had 4 LEEPS, 5 biopsies and a conization. I can't believe I even have a cervix left after all the bits and pieces that have been removed. Two years ago I finally said fuckit....unless it comes back high grade again or precancerous, I'm not having anymore procedures...obviously the aren't working. Well I just got my most resent PAP result and it was normal! My OB/Gyn emailed me herself she was so excited. I'm chalking it up to outstanding nutrition over the last 10 months since surgery. Very nice NSV!

About using HP stalls. I still use them because the toilets are higher and my back and knees are very bad. Nothing to do with weight. Losing weight has helped the knees but I was told around age 40, I would need 2 knee replacements. 64 on Saturday and I have no plans on having that surgery. Rather live with pain, which isn't too bad. I had fallen and really screwed up my knees, A restaurant's side walk had a hole, the light bulb was out and it was dark out. I was wearing flats at the time, too. After many years of PT etc. I ended up with less than $5k. The back, the discs are shattered with arthritis and the lower discs have no cushion left between the bones. Weight loss, I think has helped a little. That I guess is a NSV. Raining hard in Boston today, yesterday and maybe tomorrow. This weekend is Yom Kipper, Happy New Year to everyone who celebrates. Arlene
  13. I can wear my wedding set again!! 26 days after surgery I'm finally able to wear both my rings without feeling like my finger is suffocating! This was the first NSV I set for myself and I'm so happy I reached it so fast. Down 28 lbs since pre op started Sept 1st.

NSV. Walked into a restaurant bathroom last night and was faced with the big handicap stall and the "small" stall. Almost went to the big one when I realized I now have room to move around in the smaller one. It's awesome feeling "normal."
  15. I've been reading all of these NSV's to my hubby since the thread started. This weekend I just started laughing when this happened to me. We both had a good laugh together!!

Fill or no fill? Opinions needed!

I agree with Lisa and tmf. I would go in at least for a sanity check and also to weigh in so you know exactly where you're at. You at least need a baseline in order to gauge future progress but I suppose there always NSVs to go by. Looser clothes and such. I know it's not all about numbers on a scale but when it comes to measuring real progress numbers are important. As for needing a fill I guess the questions I would ask myself is... 1. How long can you go in between meals before getting hungry? 2. Are you grazing throughout the day?

    Banders #6

I need a pep talk. I'm hungry and drinking water instead of eating because I'm done eating for the day. But the pep talk is for my mixed blessing NSV today. I went to Goodwill to try on clothes because I really have only a handful of items in my closet that fit right now. I had no luck today finding blouses, but I found a nice pair of jeans which I need. The bad part is I looked down and saw my thighs are now very wrinkled right above the knees. This just happened this week. I've lost a lot of weight and I am happy happy happy but the shock of seeing those thighs wrinkled so far down on my legs just made me gasp. My upper thighs have been saggy baggy for about a month. Most of you know I'm going through the early stages of a divorce. My anniversary is coming up and I'm emotionally a mess. I'm happy for my weight loss and very motivated right now but the jumble of feelings sometimes just knocks me flat. When I don't eat the feelings like I used to it can be almost unbearable. I'm going out to an OA meeting now. I need to get out of the house and reset my brain. Thanks for being here. This place is where I know somebody understands.

  19. write yourself a letter with your hopes and dreams for the future also remind yourself how well you are dong and anything positive no matter how small. The reason you want to write the letter is to remind yourself when you want to give up how well you are doing now. Start keeping a list of NSV's (Non Scale Victories)
  20. The band is amazing and like many others have said it is no magic cure! It takes work and commitment…as does most good things in life! I am one year out and down 93 lbs. I have had no fills and no stuck episodes. Everyone is different and needs to make their own path down this journey. There are no comparisons of how much one person lost over another or how much they have in their band or whether you are walking around the block or doing a 5K. You MUST do whats works for you, in conjunction with your doctor and their protocol. This is not a sprint to the end…it is a marathon….and in my opinion, anyone who is trying to only sprint their way to goal is going to feel bad about so many things. Enjoy every pound off of you when the scale moves down…if the scale isn't moving don't cry PLATEAU feel how your clothes fit. See how much more energy you have …see what other NSV's (non-scale victories) you can see BESIDES just the number on the scale. Don't get me wrong…seeing that number go down, down , DOWN is awesome and what WE ALL WANT….but it isn't going to move down every day or every week…its just not always going to happen. I don't even read the negative nellies on here anymore…and its one of the reasons Im on here less and less…it is sad but true….sometimes those people get the best of you no matter how hard you try. Best of luck to all…we ALL deserve the BEST!
  21. @@angierue i walked between 2 cars that were parked very close to each other there was very little room, but then again, so was I (little i mean ) nothing like a good ol' NSV to put a smile on your face kathy

    Big legs

Haha, I literally just had a debate with myself today about buying knee high boots online! I've always had thick muscular calves, so boots never fit me, even when I was thin. A few weeks ago I bought a pair of thigh high boots for my Halloween costume and those suckers didn't even come close to fitting my thighs. I'm sure it is all in how you lose weight, but for me, my legs are very muscular, so short of losing all my fat in other places and then eating away at the muscle, I doubt that I will fit in the cool boots until I am very thin. Fingers-crossed for everyone that has this as one of their future NSV goals- I'm right there with you!
  23. Hi there, congratulations on everything -- you're doing beautifully. It's so hard not to get caught up in the instant results game. Enjoy each day and the healthy new you! The scale is one thing but what we call "non-scale victories" or NSVs -- wow, those are the things to watch for. Take your measurements, notice how your jeans are fitting, watch for ways you feel more confident and happier. I cannot really tally the points for JOY in my life now, and the relief at not thinking about food all the time. That's a huge NSV for me. The scale will move and you'll be astounded over time, but it may take a little while to get going or you may have some weeks with a loss then one or two with nothing.

    Week 6: May 27-31st Sleevers

I wish I had measured at the start ... I didn't at all and so when I go thru a stall I don't have much to go on in terms of if inches are coming off ... I am someone who has had a sugar issue from the start as most of you know ... I try and control it but it's there ... It's def a tool this sleeve and not the solution I have to be verymindful of what I am eating Another issue I have as me is that when ppl tell me oh you lost weight I seem to think that means oh yay now I can eat crap again hahahaha I wore shorts to the beach yesterday for the first time in maybe 6 years so that was An amazing Nsv! I hate how flabby my thighs and bum are that's really something I need to work on exercise wise
