  4. you are over the worst of it - now it is moving on with the next stage. I am fed up with the waiting around and wishmy surgery was here.
  5. Hello, Rachel. I just joined the forum and will be having my sleeve next month. I currently weigh 215, but because of my height I have a BMI of 39. I am also wondering how slowly the weight will come off, plus I am 55 years old, so the metabolism isn't what it once was. But I figure the weight is going to go down for sure, so how long it takes shouldn't be the worry. But when you take a big step like this to lose weight you want to get on with it already!!! I have only told a couple of women that I work with who I thought would be supportive and quickly got the "you don't need surgery, just diet" BS. What??? Like we never thought of that! I told them that my arthritic knees and back hurt so bad I can barely walk to the bathroom without considerable pain and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to wipe my own a**. That shut them up. I think people who have never lived with obesity just don't understand how it physically (and mentally) affects you.
  6. I am one week post op and feeling great! Days 1 & 2 were hell but I was much better by day 3. I'm getting in all of my Water and Protein but still deal with that grumbling, clenching, rolling, hot contraction like pain from time to time. I've lost 30lbs in the past three weeks, 21 of which were pre op. I wanted to share this Protein shake recipe with you bc to me it's better than a real chocolate shake. I use Bariatric Advantage chocolate (2 scoops), 4-5 pieces of ice, 1 cup of vanilla almond milk, and one capful of DaVinci Gourmet sugar-free caramel syrup. I blend it in my magic bullet for about 30 seconds and voila!! Chocolate perfection!!! I can drink these forever and never get tired of them. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Baby it's cold outside!

omg I laughed so hard at ur post that my husband asked what I was laughing at so I read it to him and he laughed. It takes a lot to make him laugh. Lol. And ur lucky we loose electric a lot and already for over two weeks. We have our generator wired into our home to run our entire house at the flip of a switch. We did this after going over two weeks without electric one winter. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Our setup is similar. I have to manually start the generator (yank the cord), and then throw one switch to switch over the circuits we dedicated to keeping on. That's the heat, the fridge, and the freezer. We have bunches of candles and oil lamps for lights, and the aforementioned 19th century amenities for long term low energy consumption. With my new arrangement, I can leave it in the tool shed. That saves me time and work to roll it into place, and keeps it secure from generator thieves. The old arrangement had it next to the house, which is right up by the road. Nothing says "here I am!" Like a running generator in a power outage. When our girls were still here at home, they would complain about the outhouse. I told them they were welcome to use the inside toilet, but I was not hauling buckets of Water up two flights of stairs so they could pee in luxury. That was their job. we have our done to run the whole house just bc we have three young kids ages 7,11,14 so it makes it rough when no electric. But we don't turn on the internet ha ha we make them play board games with us. Ha ha. My i laws live next door and we bought them one as well. I think most people on our road have one but we live in the country and we loose it so often. And it's weird bc just in the last few months there has been four robberies in our road but most people know we are armed and my husband won't hesitate to shoot. And we lock everything up and surveillance. It seems it doesn't matter where u live it happens now. We have lived here for 22 years and have never locked car doors always left keys in our cars. ETC. Not no more!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. I tell myself mind over matter since my two week liquid pre op diet I have baked cakes home cooked every meal anywhere from meatloaf mashed potatoes gravy and corn to home made beef veggie Soup home made pot pie. U name it. I sit at the table with my family like tonight I ate cottage cheese while they ate they're dinner. I tell myself I was the one who decided this surgery not them and I can't punish them for it. This weekend I baked Cookies with my kids for xmas cookies just bc I'm not eating them doesn't mean it's not an important time of the year for my family. They look forward to this. Do I really want them well heck yea. But I know I want to be healthy even more. Just write a list of all the things u want to do when u loose weight this is what I do and when I crave or want the bad things I look at that list which I hang on my fridge for reminders. I have not cheated once during pre op diet or since surgery on 11/22 and I'm down 40 lbs since pre op diet. Best of luck to u and keep ur chin up it gets easier. 11. I'm 5 months out. At 2 months l was forced to buy a new wardrobe and now at 5 months, my clothes are falling off again. My hubby laughs bc I'm constantly pulling up my pants and he thinks it's cute that l have to sort of roll the tops of my jammy pants to keep them up. The weird thing is that l really haven't lost that much. I was a low bmi and have lost 60 pounds. I only have 20 pounds left to goal. Sent from my LGMS550 using the BariatricPal App

    Husband [emoji22]

Men are simple creatures. And I mean it in the best way. When fishing for a compliment, and you have an idea of what you want, he has no clue!! So when he says your boobs are getting smaller, he is complimenting you. He has no clue about your thigh or waist measurements. He likes your boobs, looks at them often and noticed them changing. He also knows how hard you have been working towards your goal and wants to let you know that he did notice. Don't blame him for that. He has no clue about apps, charts, goals, measurements calories, lbs and oz. Unless he also had wls. So give your spouses a break and say thank you! Have plastics if you want to afterwards, but most guys don't care that much as long as they still have your full attention and get fed once in a while. That's why I loved working in an industry with mostly men. No bullshit, just keeping it real. Nilla

    I don't get it.

That's kind of really personal, and I don't like telling strangers about it, but I guess I'm going to have to so people understand me better. Not only is this embarrassing, and emotionally taxing, but I've never told anyone but my husband about most of this. Now I'm telling a forum of strangers. the reason for me being fat is a combination of genetics, how I was raised, harming my body to lose weight as a teen through my twenties and PCOS. My father was a professional football player, and lucky me! I got his physique. I grew up eating his size meals since I was a child. And having PCOS when i hit puberty played a huge role. I'm infertile because of it. I got into middle school, I got teased for being fat. I took it really hard and started starving myself and that eventually lead to binging and purging. What some people don't realize about eating disorders is, they don't actually make you lose weight. In fact it does the opposite. By the time I was 18 I was 220 lbs. I started dating a boy who helped me out of that violent spiral of self harm that was helping me diet and teaching me how to exercise. But it was counter productive to my method of birth control that made me gain another 30 lbs. I went on and off yoyo dieting and my body was in a constant state of starvation mode which is where your body consumes too few calories and your body stops metabolizing all together. And not to mention quitting smoking after nearly 15 years. If you're wondering why I was taking bc with PCOS, it was to help my hemorrhage like cycles be a little easier to get through.

No surgery date yet bc I have to have a 2nd upper endoscopy (doc found ulcers during the 1st one & put me on meds to hopefully heal them) but that's the only thing holding me up. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App Oh, OK. Pulling for you. I'm sure you'll do great! Meanwhile, I'm getting antsy, almost done with all of the steps and still haven't met the surgeon yet. All of the testing is coordinated through his office and my PCP. *Shrug* Sent from my LG-K428 using the BariatricPal App

  19. That is a side effect of synthroid as well so you may want to talk to ur endocrinologist about a different thyroid medication I have seen many patients that had to stop taking that bc of insomnia. So if you continue to have problems it may be the medication itself!! Best of luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. @@wendypenn - what is protein coffee and how do you make it? I'm only on Day 6 post-surgery and about to start the non-clear or shake week liquid diet, and am a little ways off from coffee, but I'd still love to know more about it. For me, my dietician and doctor suggested that I wait bc I retain fluids, so it's that much more important that I hydrate in order for my stomach to heal. It looks like most patients plans are really customized. Okay, so about that protein coffee... ☕️

Eating normal as in pre surgery normal

There is no way this is not someone trolling. Anyone that has had issues with weight and taken the time to research and have this type of surgery isn't as flippant about eating as the OP is. I'm sorry but this is bs! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. I was sleeved Nov. 2015. Stats sw245 cw191 lw185 (gained weight back) I am not losing weight like I wanted and I know its BC of the bad choices I make. I have gained weight back and i am only a year out.Sometimes I wonder if I "broke" my sleeve BC I feel no restriction. I know better, so why is it so hard for me to do better. I have been pretty stressed the past few month not being able to find employment and sitting at home filling out applications only to her rejected every single day. I've started the pouch test but never make it to the 5th day. I really wanted this surgery BC I wanted to be healthier for my children. I had a heart attack at the age of 33 and the doctor said I needed to lose weight and then I got sleeved. I wanted this so bad but I feel like I'm sabotaging myself. Any way that's my story. Ugh... I need help. Support. Hopefully someone out there understands where I am coming from. Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App
