I havent actually indulged in any of these behaviours, nor thought about it, but I certainly have been underweight and been obsessed with staying there. I was sick and having chemo at the time and I was thrilled with my ultra low weight - I couldnt see that it looked bad although others were expressing concern. Now I'm back to a normal weight - with a BMI of about 20 to 21 and it's driving me crazy, I feel compelled to diet hard to get back to that low weight and I'm getting myself into that binge/starve cycle again where I'm ultra "good" for days and then my body rebels and I pig out on bad foods. Which only leads to more weight gain. I can usually get myself on track again though. I know its disordered thinking/behaviour and I can recognise it when I do it and with concerted effort get back to healthier ways. I really need to accept my current 65kg which is still less than I was at this time last year - thinking of 140ish pounds at 5ft 10 as fat is really ridiculous. It was cancer that sent me on that spiral too, but in me, not a relative. I'm so sorry for what your mother is going to have to go through - and you too. Stay strong and healthy.

Sounds as though this would be an expensive way to go. A bit like doing "lite n easy" or one of those other programs. I think it is important that we learn to cook nutritious, band friendly meals for ourselves. I'm not saying you are one of them but I know there are a lot of people that don't cook at all and I think in many instances this can be a contributing factor to weight gain. I like,as far as possible, to eat the same as the rest of my family. I don't want to be different. Occasionally however there is nothing wrong with using a service like this. Its also good to be able to have some healthy prepared meals in the freezer for when you don't have time to cook.

Weight GAIN on 6-mo supervised diet
Southern Missy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, long story short. I started my diet in October. I also started Lexapro in October. As of yesterday, I have officially gained 20 pounds since October. Anyone see a connection?? Unfortunately, I cannot even credit the Lexapro with making me feel better as it is not...I am SO depressed right now. Is it even possible insurance will think about approving me with weight gain on the 6-month supervised diet??? :scared2: -
I am not banded yet and i am not pregnant, I have read a ton of the post on here about people getting concerned about gaining weight during pregnancy. I understand that we all have issues with weight gain but you are supposed to gain weight when you are preggers. it's healthy. a ton of weight gain is not healthy but a little is fine. like i said i understand that everyone on this site for the most part has issues with weight gain, my question is why don't people understand that it's normal an healthy for pregnancy, and stop beating yourselfs up over it? I know this might sound come across as rude but its not i promise i am just curious.

So I lost 13 pounds during the week of pre-op liquid diet and was feeling pretty good. Weighed in at 226 the morning of surgery. Came home the next day at 240! What the heck? I realize they had me on IV fluid the whole time, but 14 pounds worth? It's depressing to feel like I took a giant step backwards

Will be meeting with surgeon next week about possible surgery. Want to find those of you who are bipolar who have had this surgery. Do you have any difficulty taking your meds after surgery? In general I would like to hear any/all experiences. I need to lose about 100 lbs - part of the weight gain can be attributed to my depression & medications. Will the bipolar medications I must take prevent me from losing weight after sleeve surgery? My bipolar is stable/controlled but it is imperative that I take my medications regularly 4xday.

Breast reduction questions
It's Time replied to byebyefat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a breast reduction prior to the sleeve. I went from a really large I think DD or larger to a high B cup, which increased to a C with weight gain. The surgeries are nothing alike, I needed more help with the reduction because of the initial restriction in movement. I did have to lie on my back for both operations to sleep but couldn't use the restroom on my own after the reduction. I don't remember how long until I drove but I remember every bump in the road when in a car was uncomfortable. Hope that helps -
Feeling so unprepared...
StarJoy2021 replied to davis29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I'm incredibly new here but i've been reading people's posts. I still considering weight loss surgery and I will most likely do it due to my years of weight gain and loss and my family history of health problems associated with obesity. I just wanted to say hello and tell you that I think you are courageous. You made a really big decision for yourself and from what I understand it is normal to grieve or feel symptoms of depression as you consider the many ways your life has changed. You chose surgery for a reason. I think that finding new ways to celebrate ourselves can be a challenge to anyone. I wish you happiness and the drive to hydrate ; ) -
Hi all. I have a 11 week old baby girl and after giving birth I lost ten kilos straight away. Eleven weeks on and ive gained back a few kilos. Have 5ml in my band and I have been eating okay and exercising a bit (not too much though as im breastfeeding). Starting to worry about why my body isnt losing weight. Could this mean that something is wrong with my band. I had it to tight a couple weeks ago so hand some fluid taken out and now I can eat healthy foods but im still gaining. Any advice and tips would be much appreciated

Hi there I'm new to WLS so I still attend support groups and here's what they say to consider about regain: How much have you regained? Have you changed your habits? (Eating, exercise, sleep, work, etc.) Any new medical issues or life changes? Have you seen your Primary or Surgeon recently? I've also heard some chatter that something happen around year 3-4 that are unavoidable that prompt weight gain (idk the validity I'm 6 months out) But take a strong honest look at yourself then seek MEDICAL ADVICE from your Medical team first And you totally got this ... Again

1Mo Po & I've Gained Weight:(
gmanbat replied to teambrown4's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Also, remember muscle weighs more than fat for it's size. I have noticed that intense exercise sessions are normally followed by a weight gain. That's where the tape measure trumps the scale. Muscle takes up less space than fat. You could very well be gaining weight and losing fat at the same time. Some pro bodybuilders are pushing 300 pounds with 10% or less body fat. -

New year ... new start. Im looking for help/guidance. Had surgery in Nov 2012. I weighed 289 day of surgery. Got down to as far as 214 lb and then just hit a plateau. Which I was fine with. I did more than I ever did. Loved to exercise to relieve the stress of eating etc... Then I was injured couldn't exercise as much. Starting getting depressed and making bad eating choices again. Now Im up to 235 lb. I started back with kick boxing but started getting dizzy and very out of breathe. I figured I had been out of the game for awhile and thought I was just out of shape. I went to get a full work up and physical. Discovered that my B12, Iron and white blood counts were very low and therefore making me extremely anemic. Had to get a few iron infusions done. Dr told me I could resume workouts until levels were up. Levels are still where they need to be... taking vitamin D and b12 supplements now. Dr told me my metabolism is very low and therefore not burning off calories like it normally would. Im feeling at a loss. I want to be back at where I was. Finding it hard to get motivated. Anyone else have a similar experience???

I'm having a hard time stopping my desire to keep losing weight. I'm at 122 pounds, I'm 5'6. I'm very thin. But I just keep lowering my goal weight. I love the feeling of seeing the number go down. I'm terrified to see it go up. I feel like I'm not safe unless I am at the very bottom of what I can weigh. I'm so scared of weight gain!!!! But this is getting crazy. I'm going to start looking anorexic. Is anyone else going through this??? Also I reached my weight loss goal in eight months so fast, so my brain hasn't caught up yet. I still feel fat sometimes

New to the forum and just starting my process
Delta Dawn replied to NikkiRX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Monique and welcome. You've come to the right place for support, great advice and answers. I've only been here since Oct. 5 even though I'm having surgery Oct. 17. I'm not your typical red tape sleever. I have had some pretty traumatic experiences this past year that encouraged me to speed up the process. Honestly I'm not sure how long it would've taken if ever my insurance would've paid. I'm 5 ft 7 in and some old injuries and weight gain has made it impossible for me to be physically active due to chronic pain. I decided to forgo all the time it would take for my insurance to approve this procedure. I'm afraid if it took a yr. to jump through all of the hoops I might be completely immobile. I was 220 at my heaviest and I'm down to 207-208 lbs at present. If I could get down to 140 lbs and be active again I would be pleased with my results. I'm really not into runway model skinny. The folks here are at all stages of the game and everyone seems to be willing to offer as much help as they can. Again Welcome and best wishes on this amazing journey you are beginning!! -
Weight gain after approval from insurance

After you get approved by your insurance to have the WLS, is there anyway you can be denied if you gain weight before you have the surgery? -

Hey everyone! I'm back on here, looking for motivation and advice. Long story short, I've just had my first surgery following my final cancer treatment and the biopsy came back all clear! Looks like I beat the odds and tackled esophageal cancer in 16 months. I did not go through chemo, therefore the stress of the situation drove me back into bad eating habits and I put on 30 pounds. I'm 4 years and 3 months post-bypass. I've maintained at 200 pounds (down from 369 at my biggest) and was very proud of myself until recently. I have packed this weight on over the last 4 months. Winter. Holidays. Cancer. COVID. It all conspired to make for a rough patch, but I'm on the other side of the mountain now and determined to get back down to 200 which is where I'm happy and looking healthy. Thoughts? Advice? Words of encouragement?

Gained Weight After Band And Now I Pregnant And Terrified
Angela from nz posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
So over the last three months I've gained ten kilos back after losing 25 kilos since my banding three years ago. My doctor thinks I had too much fluid in my band so we have been trying to find the right balance for the past month with no success so far. This has been really depressing for me and to make matters worse now I'm pregnant and so terrified of the potential weight gain that it's overtaking my excitement of the baby coming. Can anybody relate to this or have any advice? -
Calling All Veterans (at least 2 years post op)
Lavieboheme84 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi All I'm a newbie to this site, and am currently going through the pre-op clearance process. I am 90% sure this is the decision for me (sleeve), however, I still have some doubts. What I am most concerned about is the maintenance phase of this journey. (Is it weird to have nerves about that part so early in the game??). I've just completed a 1 year cognitive behavioral program to help change my relationship with food (this will always be a work in progress--never "cured"), and see a nutritionist weekly (even before surgery consultation). I am trying to begin following some of the bariatric guidelines now (drinking Water 30 min before meals, eating slowly, chewing a lot, being mindful of meals and not multitasking/inhaling food) I'm hoping this will introduce me to the structure I will adhere to the rest of my post-surgery. Here are my burning questions for the vets out there who've had this surgery 2 years ago or more (that are past the honeymoon phase and have had some time under their belt in maintenance): 1. Did you ever find you were subject to weight gain, even if you followed the "rules/guidelines" (monitored Protein, water, 30 min in between h20/meals etc) 2. If you did steer off course for a bit of time and happened to gain weight---did the weight come off when you went back to the "old rules"? I guess what I'm asking here---is do/did you find weight loss just as difficult as when you were heavier? My personal nightmare is to go through this surgery, and gain it all back. I am not a fast food eater, I don't even eat big portions. I am a sugar addict and while I often go for days without eating sugar/sugar products (flour/pasta/rice etc), I will wind up in a state where I'm binging like crazy. (Still working on this--will be a lifetime battle) Thoughts/Pearls of Wisdom? -
don't freak out and don't back out!! my mind won't stop running but there's no way I'm not going to do this. For years I have lost weight gained it lost weight and gained it and I'm done failing. we just need support. I'll be happy to talk with you everyday.

When nuts are available, I have trouble resisting them. Even worse, I keep going back for more until they're done. And THAT'S dangerous! During the first 18 months it didn't seem to matter, but in maintenance, it may cause some weight gain which then needs to be handled. Almonds are more filling, and easier for portion-control than peanuts. Bottom line: nuts are okay if you can keep them in moderation, but that can be difficult.

What is happening?!?!
Arabesque replied to LessFee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seventeen lbs in a week this far along does sound odd. Like @sillykitty weighing myself regularly is a good motivator for me too. I weigh myself almost everyday and allow for fluctuations - unexpected change of diet, water retention, constipation (lol). (Hormones aren’t an issue for me anymore but they were a b*tch for unexplained weight gain/loss.) A lot of people take regular body measurements as well & have found the measurements will change even if the scales don’t. Also keep your scales in the exact same spot. Electronic scales are sensitive to uneven floors (tiles are the worst).
