  1. Hey everyone!! I am new here and am SO glad I found you all. I had my sleeve done in Mexico (I know... ) back in 2011. I have no complaints, except there was no after surgery care. So, long story short... i have gained almost all my weight back and would really like to hear from some of you about re-sleeving or another surgery that would help me. I am looking to lose, atleast, 80lbs. I don't think I want the DS, simply for the malabsorbtion and dumping issues it comes with, however, I would still like to hear from someone having gone thru each of the surgeries. Thanks in advance!

    Weight gain.....

So true !! I also put on weight. From Feb to May 1st I gained 15 or 16 lbs. Then on May 1st I decided it was enough and went back to eating the way we are taught. About 2 weeks later I got the call that my revision to bypass was scheduled. In 3 weeks I lost 6 lbs and have taken the rest off since the bypass. It is much better to get on the horse with a 10 to 20 lb gain then that 50 lbs like you said.
  4. I really need some help and advice on what I can do. I have lumbar stenosis and have to get injections to be able to walk like normal people, otherwise I get stuck and cant move my left leg and have awful pain trying to do so. I also have bad neck that gives me horrible headaches which go on day and night sometimes and need injections for those. I truly cant handle all of this pain. I am so overwhelmed at the moment. I was told today by the bariatric team that if I must have them to space them out and stay on my Dexilant ( I dont know if I will ever be able to get off of it) Now I am scared. She didnt tell me what can happen by doing these injections. Any advice would be greatly appreciated . FYI I was revised to Bypass 2 months ago and had been able to have the injections with the sleeve with no issues.
  5. Hi! In one week, I am undergoing a revision from VSG to RNY due to reflux and esophagitis. I had my VSG in 2017 and lost 100 pounds in nine months. Then, whoops, I got pregnant. After years of being told my ovaries didn't function, I hadn't worried enough about protection after surgery 😂 however, right before finding out I was expecting, I'd gone through lots of testing because of persistent reflux, including a test where you keep a probe in your throat and stomach for several days to measure your acid levels. Mine were high enough that my surgeon immediately started planning for a revision. Then life got in the way and brought me a beautiful baby girl, and before I knew it, she was over a year old and I was still constantly fighting reflux despite lots of meds. I finally went back and saw my surgeon again and was scheduled asap! It is very surreal to be back on the liver shrink diet and doing everything I did several years ago. I am also nervous; I purposely chose the VSG hoping to avoid long term vitamin or nutrition issues from malabsorption. I know so many choose RNY and love it, but it was definitely not my first choice....but here I am! I'd like to stay on track after surgery and the forum I used to belong to has very little activity now. I'm enjoying getting to read up on what's happening here!

August 3rd, revision from VSG to RNY due to reflux and esophagitis. Feels so weird going through all my pre-op steps again!
  7. Why did you have a revision done? Just curious I wonder sometimes if I need to have one done. 17 years out. Sent from my LG-G710 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Vsg/bypass in Ohio anyone ? 7/28

I’ve lost about 45lbs in 7 months but overall since being with my surgeon I’ve lost a little over 100lbs. I haven’t had the revision yet but I’m hoping soon because the GERD from the hernia is no joke. Try not to be scared. It’s an amazing tool and gateway to a healthier life. Also, I asked for medicine cups to get in my water while in the hospital which helped. Having water at different temperatures also helped find one I tolerated best. And walking does help with any pain you might have. Wear a binder if they offer you one.

    Gastric Band Revision To Sleeve

I had GERD and a hiatal hernia for about 15 years. When I started to think about weight loss surgery and do my research, I decided gastric bypass with hiatal hernia repair was the right choice for me. I know I am not a revision like you, but I decided getting rid of GERD forever, and not taking the chance of having to revise later, was very important to me. I am almost 3 weeks post op now. The first two weeks I had a bit of regurgitation, but that has gone away. I will continue my proton pump inhibitors for another month or so while I finish healing per the recommendation of my surgeon and then get to drop them from my meds. Yay! My recovery has not been perfect. I have had three separate incidents of vomiting, likely due to the hernia repair, but I was able to go back to work full time last Monday after two weeks off. I actually feel great and have plenty of energy. I have not tried to eat anything with processed sugars yet, just some fruit, so no dumping at this point. I am glad to have the potential for dumping as a deterrent to eating processed sugars. I do plan to try a small piece of dark chocolate soon, just to settle that craving. At some point I will try a glass of dry white or red wine too, but it is still too soon in my healing process. I hope you come to a decision that is right for you. Consider what you are willing to tolerate in the future. Possible dumping vs. possible GERD and another revision. Best thoughts coming out to you!
  10. I had awful pain but was also walking first day. There are people that lose weight with 2nd surgery but I hear it is harder. I lost 12lbs first month and 2 lbs this 2nd month but all that did was put me back where I was last summer. I really dont think I will lose anymore but we will see. My revision was 5/22.
  11. I'm scheduled to have a revision from a sleeve to a mini gastric bypass in 5 weeks. I am way more scared than the first surgery. I think in part because I know what to expect post op (I had an awful recovery last time). Has anyone else felt like this before their revision?

    Gastric Band Revision To Sleeve

I am 56, and eight weeks out (would have been 16 if not for Covid-caused cancellations) on my revision from a lapband to a sleeve (plus a hiatal hernia repair). My surgery went fine, weirdest thing was not being able to have someone with me. I woke up super nauseated , I mean bad, so bad, but it was much better overall after 24 hours. The first few days were rocky - bad reaction to the oxycodone, the scopolamine patch tanked my blood pressure, but very little discomfort from the procedures. The big problem was that my GERD was still present, maybe even worse. I get it badly - my chest, back, neck and stomach feel like they’re on fire. I was shocked when my surgeon’s assistant told me that the sleeve was a GERD-inducing surgery, and if it did not subside after a few weeks a revision to a bypass would be the next step. At that point - and now- I’m like NO more surgery, ever! I honestly don’t know why this was never discussed, or that I didn’t discover it during my pre-research. No explanation. Fortunately, the GERD did almost completely subside, and I was rolling on smoothly (Although, I am able to eat more food and quicker than I should be able to...but still I’ve lost 21 pounds.) Overall, doing good, but I also realized surgery does not take away an eating addiction so I am getting a therapist to help me with that and feel confident about improvement. However!!! Yesterday I started getting slightly nauseated and a little heartburn which has exploded into full on mouth watering nausea and some of the worst GERD I’ve ever had. Carafate, protonix, dexilant and a ton of Tums later, I am in pretty serious pain, and even drinking water makes me nauseated. I called the surgeon and he said at this stage that is probably from having food stuck in the small opening of my stomach. I hope he’s right but it’s just hard to imagine going from feeling great to feeling like I am on fire, and I haven’t eaten much in two days so I don’t know what food it would be. I’m very upset and worried right now because there’s no possible way I can live decently like this, but another bariatric surgery is just absolutely out of the question. I know this is really just a recount of my experience and not so much an answer to your question. If you would have asked me two days ago, I would have strongly recommended the revision but if how I’m feeling now is how it’s going to be, no way. Of course, I’m hoping tomorrow I’m just miraculously better. I think the really important thing is just to discuss thoroughly and completely the GERD situation with your surgeon......Best of luck to you!

    Vsg/bypass in Ohio anyone ? 7/28

I had a VSG in December 2019 here in Ohio. Waiting on insurance approval to get a revision due to hernia that’s caused severe GERD. I bet you’re super excited for it. It is life changing!
  14. Barbwired--I am one of the lap banders who had to get mine removed when it slipped and caused a huge hiatal hernia. I got it removed, got the hernia repaired and a revision to a RNY bypass in one surgery. I couldn't be happier with the results! No more vomiting and sliming every other meal. And in seven months I lost all the weight I had regained and thirty pounds more than the lowest I ever got with the band. My only regret is that I ever got the band in the first place and wasted 12 years before doing what I should have initially. I haven't dumped once, but I'm very careful not to eat anything that could cause me to dump. It's good incentive not to eat too much sugar! The bypass encourages more of a total revision of how you eat than the band does...I discovered quickly about "slider foods" with the band but an much more discerning with what I eat after the bypass. And I'd guess you can still enjoy a glass of wine now and then but would stick to a dry wine rather than a sweet one. I'm just not much of a drinker so I haven't tried it yet. Whatever you decide good luck!
  15. I am going to speak of what I know about my very best friend that just had a lapband revision to RNY last year. She described having the same or similar Lapland issues as you mentioned. Acid reflux definitely being the worst. Every time we went out to eat she ended up excusing herself to the bathroom because of the reflux. Elevated sleep, etc. I believe she also took a daily acid reflux medication. Now, after the revision to RNY, she claims she had no idea how much more pleasant life could be. She has had a few dumping incidents and I have asked her all about it because I'm about to have the RNY in a few weeks. She claims she would choose the rare dumping incidents over the daily misery she had with the band any day of the week. Again, these are just my observations and conversations with someone else that went through it. Front the outside looking in I have seen a drastic change in her life. I wish you well on your road to a decision!
  16. So I had the DS a week ago today, due to some weight regain 5 years out from VSG. I have been searching and searching for ppl's experience revising from VSG to DS. I want to hear from you!! I know my weight loss will be slower than with virgin DS, but I guess I'm lacking Faith that I can lose at all, just relying on malabsorption. I am watching what I'm eating (portions and carbs) . Please share with me your experience and loss! And how long was your belly sore? I'm still pretty sore, with the vsg I was back to normal in a couple days. Not so with DS!!
  17. I feel like I have a lump In the back of my throat the last 5-6 days. no heartburn no acid what could it be? esophogus full!? Didn’t chew enough? im drinking fine. Nothing is stopping it from going down. I’m eating.
  18. I just had my revision. I am having a little pain, also I am constantly walking.

    Re-sleeve to Bypas

I think the weight loss after revision has a lot to do with whether or not you gained weight and how much. If you didn't, there won't be much loss, but if you did, you should lose as much as you did after the first procedure. It might come off a bit more slowly, but you should eventually lose the excess weight.

    Re-sleeve to Bypas

Yes thanks catwoman7 it is due to my severe GERD. Was giving the advice from my surgeon to have it done back in 2017 and I decided to wait keep doing meds and big lifestyle changes and unfortunately no relief if anything only worse. Definitely know the food choices and calorie intake are important. Also was told the weight loss is very low after the revision but not from personal experience.

    Re-sleeve to Bypas

there are actually several people who've had this revision - in fact, I've run across some who've gone from lapband to sleeve to bypass. Hopefully someone who's been through it will chime in.
  22. Having my revision on 8/3 from sleeve to bypass due to hernia. Can I loose weight my doctor says it as fast as the first one but wondering how much on the average. Also, are there any major differences in the recovery? I was pain free in the first one and walking the first day
  23. HI! I was wondering if anyone has gone from gastric sleeve to re-sleeve to bypass. Yes I know third revision 🥺 however my GERD has become horrible. So my surgeon wants to convert to bypass. My sleeve was done in 2011 and re-sleeve 2015. Need some input from experience!! Thanks!!
  24. I had a gastric sleeve in 2012 and went down to 167. I'm 5'11" so I looked great. I gained weight after the 5 year mark and went up to 235 [I was originally 280] and I was so depressed. I got a revision sleeve. First 2 weeks I lost 5 lbs each and then BAM nothing week 3 and GAINED 3 lbs week 4. I swear to you if I'm even getting 1200 calories once a week that's a lot and I walk for miles. Anyone else have this experience and any words of hope? Hanging by a thread.

    Revision completed

I had a revision 6/24/20. My sleeve was in 2013 and tummy tuck/brachioplasty 2014. My revision was by far the most painful! Month out now and feeling good!
