I have eaten it a few times-- just limit to about 3 1/2 ounces and no toppings. It is wonderful and very similar to non-frozen sugar free yogurt.

I ate yogurt and cottage cheese and protein shakes on the mushy stage. I absolutely refused to puree my food or eat baby food.

LOl yep traveling... Flew out to see my Mom in CA. Thought no big deal..I will just take some protein powder to mix in water and then I could get some yogurt to eat in the airport... I am in the mushy stage. I soon ifgured out that getting protein powder into a bottle of water is impossible. Finding yogart in an airport... Well I finally found some with pomegranate... and seeds... can't have the seeds. After searching all over I finally bought a breakfast burrito and ate some of the scrambled eggs inside of it. Went most of the day with just water. Getting ready to do the same thing tomorrow going home. Khy

skittles108, Thanks that's very sweet, I hope he does too! Maybe there's something to that cheese if they've been eating it all this time and living such a long life! Remember the commercial for yogurt a long time ago where they made reference to people living long in Russia because they ate it every day. Maybe there's something to it. All I know is he likes it and would tell me if he didn't! What a blessing to have your dad live to 100! Thanks again, brandyII.

How do you "doctor" your cottage cheese?
lizrbit replied to crikkit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hey these are really great ideas. I am like Jachut in that i used to buy a 'tub' of it, let it spend a few weeks in the fridge then toss it before it changed life forms. I couldnt get around it until recently. I found they sell it in small containers similar to activa yogurt in four oz individual containers and I LOVE THOSE, they are so fresh. I just put a packet of splenda in it and grab my baby spoon and im good. Something about KNOWING each serving is fresh matters to me for some reason. Maybe im weird. -
How do you "doctor" your cottage cheese?
Oregondaisy replied to crikkit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I used to hate cottage cheese until my daughter told me to mix it with yogurt. I really like that now. There is a brand here that comes already mixed with pineapple that's pretty good too. -
@WifeyMaterial. Soda and chips? Seriously girl? And you stated you have no energy. Well, soda and chips! Boiled eggs, shrimp (if you are able to) get a rotisserie chicken and keep it in the fridge, cheese sticks, almonds, greek yogurts with sugar free fruit preserves, fat free milk for protein shakes, homemade tuna and chicken salad. Ok, so you see where I'm going with this. Keep these things on hand at all times. Soda and chips.....never! All the best.

Oh wow your four weeks out? Are you on the mushy food phase? I have been on the liquid diet for two weeks before surgery and I have been so emotionally hungry! Thanks for the kind words Yes, I'm on limited soft foods: cottage cheese, refried Beans, mushed veggies, oatmeal/cream of wheat, greek yogurt. I get to go to the next phase in 10 days. I was on a 2 week pre-packaged food diet pre-op. Don't worry, your hunger will disappear after surgery; at least, MINE did. Now I eat because I HAVE to...or because I WANT to.
-
My pre op was 3-4 shakes a day, unsweetened applesauce, light yogurt, SF pudding, broth, Water, unlimited raw veg for 2 weeks. then i was liquids only for 48 hrs prior to surgery and Clear Liquids the day before. i did Protein shots POST op for the first 48 hrs as directed by my nut. the protein in the shots is not as absorbed by the body so not the preferred option, but a lot of protein in a small amount.

I see all this talk about Protein poweders and I know right after surgery you really can't eat thick foods, but later on, why can't you eat greek yogurt to get most of your protein. I love Fage 0% total greek yogurt. 1 cup has 23 gms of protein. Just wondering. I hate powdered drinks. But going out tomorrow to GNC to get a few samples of some to try them out before my surgery. Thanks for any info.

Sorry to hear about the personal stuff going on. Never easy to deal with. That aside..I think the lack of appetite may be partially expected at this point in recovery. I say this because I also have hit this same thing...without all the stress that your dealing with. I saw my bariatric dr and RD and they both said that it was normal at the 8-10 month post op stage. They said that tastes have changed dramatically and things are beginning to go back to normal at that point. So it's just your bodies way of balancing out. I've had zero appetite for weeks now. It's been a challenge for sure. I went back to 2 shakes for Snacks and 3 small actual food chewing meals. My program wants us eating only 3 meals...any needed snacks need to be liquid...so I stick to that. But... My meals now are small for sure...maybe 4 ounces at the most. Greek yogurt with Protein low cal low carb granola mixed in for Breakfast....lunch maybe a few ounces of chicken breast with a few small pieces of fruit for lunch, dinner I'm not hungry at all...so then I usually will have some nuts with cheese. Or half an avocado with some protein. Hope some of this helps.

Unflavored protein?
BLERDgirl replied to jennolsen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the isopure. I emailed the company to verify that heating it would not denature the protein. I use it in pretty much everything. I add it to tea, I really like adding it to soup or vegetable broth. I mix it with yogurt, and I've even mixed it with egg salad & my scrambled eggs prior to cooking. It's a nice protein boost. It was really helpful in the early full liquids stage it was especially helpful. Instead of drinking 3 shakes a day, I did 2 shakes and then in the even I would have veg broth with unflavored protein powder added. It was a nice break from all the sweet of the shakes. Nowadays if I have a day where I may be running around I put a scoop in a small container in my bag. Then I can grab any beverage along the way and add it to make sure I'm getting in my protein. -
Thanks ya'll. I'm trying to get my liquids in. Yesterday I did pretty good but today I just didn't get in as much as I should have. I only had about 40 ounces today. I am going to get a shaker or blender and fix me protein drinks tomorrow. Water was going down good, but not I am struggling to drink it. i don't like the isopure, but I make myself drink little bits of it during the day. Chicken broth is alright and I don't have much trouble with it. The only things that are saving me right now are Ice Chips and SF Popsicles. I've had 3 cups of ice chips and 3 popsicles today. I"m thinking of having another before bed, even though they say to stop 3 hours before bed. I really do not want to get dehydrated. I really really want to eat something and I'm not going to, but man when my guys are eating I just want to take it away from them. I am just going to have to get them to eat in the dining room instead of trying eat in front of the tv while I'm on liquids. It is not easy as you all know, but I know it will get better everyday and I'm so looking forward to full liquids and then to the "mooshies". I read my papers everyday on what I can have and when. I'm marking the days off on my calendar. I'm so excited that I can have yogurt in a few days.. I can hardly wait. Yogurt is going to be my saving grace with the unflavored protein. My family are so wonderful and helpful to me right now and they didn't realize how difficult it was for me until today when I just broke down and told them I couldn't handle it.. I'm just muddling through one day at a time and with God's grace I'll make it through with enough liquids in me each day. I appreciate all of the kind words, encouragement, and prayers that I know I receive from the people here, and for that I am forever grateful to all of you. Just been a rough day here for me and thanks for letting me ramble. Hugz, Penny

Calcium Citrate after RNY
catwoman7 replied to c37king's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
in the morning I mix a scoop of Upcal D powder into my yogurt (it'll supposedly mix into anything, but the filler is kind of sweet - so it works best in sweeter things like yogurt). During the day, I drop two Calcium citrate tablets into my 16 oz two-scoop (fruit-flavored) Protein shake. I mix fruit flavored Protein Powder with Crystal Light lemonade, so the acid in it makes the calcium tablets dissolve (takes awhile, though - but then I sip on the shake all day long, so it doesn't matter). after dinner, I take a Calcet Creamy Bite or a Bariatric Advantage chew. Both taste like dessert. They're also both kind of expensive, but then, I only take them once a day. -
I travel quite a bit, but most of it is alone, so I only have to be in charge of myself and my own schedule which makes it a bit easier...but I do have some suggestions of things that work for me. I would try to seek out lodging that has a refrigerator and possibly a microwave and consider preparing at least one or two of your meals in your room as opposed to eating in a restaurant--you'll have a much easier time being able to control your portions and what is in your meals that way. I usually hit a grocery store before I head to my hotel and pick up things like string cheese, vegetables that are easy to snack on (grape tomatoes, baby carrots, even things like sugar snap peas are really good raw), individual containers of cottage cheese or yogurt, deli turkey, things like that. When you do eat out in restaurants, think outside the box and consider pairing several sides into a meal you can live with (for instance, my husband and I have a Japanese restaurant we like a lot, his meal comes with a side salad and I usually take that, and then I ask for a side order of shrimp to put on top, and I eat that as my meal). This works out better because by getting only the sides, you're not paying for nor being tempted by the inevitable carb-based side that accompanies most restaurant plates. The tricky thing is that while traveling it's harder to store and/or find time to eat leftovers so I always end up feeling like I'm being wasteful if I order a full "meal" intended for someone with a normal stomach. A lot of this is going to potentially boil down to how flexible and accommodating your travel partners will be in helping you be able to eat places you can find something suitable. If they insist on eating bar food (or something along those lines) all week, it may end up being a little hard, so hang in there, do your best, it's not forever, and if you have a difficult couple days, just get back on track when you get home.

newbie from Toronto
joaniliz replied to lisa in toronto's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I started burbing on Saturday and I didn't know what was happening. That's when I first went on-line to see if I was unique. It was very helpful to know others are affected. Are you walking at all? When I walk a little, I burp and pass gas a lot. Yesterday I also did some fingertip massage on my abdomen (not stomach area). I also had not had BM since the day before the surgery and yesterday took 2 Duclolax that alleviated the problem comfortably. I started my powder Fiber today and I hope that and the Water will keep me regular.? I think the Benefibre will help you. Are you pretty sore at your port site? I am so glad to be feeling better overall, but that one spot still remains. I go to the dr on Thursday--when do you go again? I didn't have to do the clear fluids, only a liquid diet, so I have had some Protein powder and yogurt. Are you sleeping ok? Joan -
borderline repulsed by food!?
Fleur de lis replied to sleeveorbust's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my gosh, I feel exactly the same way! I tried jello, took two bites, and threw it away. The only thing I'm not repulsed by so far are the popsicles. I'm nearing the end of my second week....well, actually, I'm confused about that. My surgery was on the 27th of September and so I counted that whole week as week 1 Clear liquids, and then this past Monday, I started week 2. Is that even right? When I visited my doctor on Tuesday, he said it was okay to move to mushies. Anyways, I'm getting off topic. A lot of food is not sitting well with me. Mashed potatoes, cream of potato Soup, yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce, grits. None of those are okay with me right now. So far, I've been drinking tea and eating crackers because those are the only things that don't upset my stomach. I keep trying to remind myself that it hasn't even been a full two weeks and to give it time, but I'm hungry. Waaahhh. -
Only drinkable yogurt Iv been told or to thin it as well Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using VST

Drinking is pretty easy for me too, and I feel like there is nothing I can't eat, but I'm not taking any chances so I'm sticking to my surgeon's diet. Starting today (Day 4) I can now have the following in addition to my water juice and protein shakes.... V-8 Juice or Tomato Juice Diet Splash Strained thinned cream soups (without meat or veggies) Low fat yogart I have found it very easy to get my protein in today by adding unjury powered protein to my yogurt, and I'll probably add some non flavored protein powder to my soup today. On day 8 (only 4 more days) I can start having mushies.... I can't wait!!!!

Which Food Plan After Lapband?
Astrasmom replied to michelleintheoc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am allowed 4-5 oz of food at every meal and 2 Protein shakes. I eat alot of fish and chicken, all natural Peanut Butter (not alot because of the calories), Fat Free ricotta cheese, oatmeal, eggs, yogurt,be sure you pick foods that are higher in protein. It will help you through what they call "Bandsters Hell" I was on of the lucky ones that didn't go through it because I eat the higher protein and it kept me full. Banana's are also good. -
Road Trip 2 Weeks Post-Op
Rev Me Up! replied to Amber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You would have to check your surgeon's food guidelines. I was still on full liquids at 2 weeks out. Make sure to bring a cooler with you. You will want to have plenty of bottled Water, some Protein packets and milk or soymilk to mix them with. I was drinking a lot of liquid yogurt at that stage. You may want to pre-portion some cream Soup into microwaveable tupperware that you can take to a mini-mart on the road and heat up. If you are not on solids, you will not be able to eat anything at the drive-through. I am 2 months out and I still have a hard time eating a whole hamburger patty without the bun. My first foray into fast food consisted of the meat and cheese from the inside of one taco at about 4 weeks. Also, bring tylenol as that is the only approved pain killer. Gas-x strips and tums will handle any gas or acid that might crop up. As far as discomfort, that varies from person to person. I was exhausted and felt pretty bad for almost 4 weeks. Other people on this board have surgery Monday and are in fighting shape the following Monday. You should be fine for the drive, but you won't really know how food treats you until you get to that point. Good luck! lara -
Hello Chad! I went in for my second fill today. I've lost 31 lbs in two months. I have a BMI of 37.1 now (woohoo) I was told that I am way ahead of the curve because it is usually around 5lbs a month. I attribute my success to low fat, high quality foods. Yogurt or egg for bfast. Grilled lean meat/fish and veggie for lunch and dinner. I add whole wheat cous cous or Beans for carbs but at a very low quantity. Snacks are ff cheese or 1/2 fruit. And I exercise as much as I can.
