Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

I think it is amazing the things our brains tell us concerning our weight loss. I was having one of those days myself, I have a raging cold with tons of drainage (TMI I know) so stayed home from work. Before surgery this would have been my excuse to graze all day in front of the TV, and today I didn't really want any hard protein on my sore throat, I still felt like I did sooo bad today, but just checked MFP and I'm at 690 calories, 22 fat g and 63g protein. Not as much protein as I normally get 80-90g but ok since I'm sick. So why did my mind tell me I ate too much! -
I Was Sleeved In May And Just Found Out I Am Pregnant
Feeling Free replied to Seemebetter's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I too suffered with hyperemesis and the constant spitting (sorry TMI) during both of my pregnancies thus the 9 year age difference. Said I was not going through that again. I was put on medication in the second pregnancy and it worked so ask your doctor for something. No need for you to suffer. Hugs -
Periods And Birth Control-Tmi
musicalwonder posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So...i had my period right b4 surgery and of course it startes again the day after. Im 4 weeks post op and its starting again and its like a weird black smear. Anyone else get this? As far as birth control Im on the pill but read online its less effective because my stomach cant absorb the hormones. Im nervous but dont want to switch off. I was on the shot for years and gained over 100 lbs. My insurance doesnt cover an IUD. And before anyone says it...i hate condoms. Engaged and dont use them. Has anyone had issues with the pill? -

What Was Your Biggest Misconception About Surgery?
BBdoodle replied to hajones5891's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought I was going to be sick all the time, puking, pooping, etc. etc. I went thru surgery with no problems what so ever. I have puked and pooped but only once in a while... I have pooping issues due to my gall bladder removal 10 wks after RNY but that issues is being delt with = sorry TMI. I never knew it would be this easy to have RNY. -
Struggling After Gallbladder Removal :(
sid_n_reagans_mommy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wondering if anybody else is in my shoes... I had my gallbladder out 2 months ago. I had two emergency surgeries back-to-back (one to remove gallbladder & another to place stent). Ever since then, my guts have been WACKO! Sorry for TMI, but I have the runs on average of 3 times a week. Another thing is when I do get the urge "to go", the pains feels different then before... Like, I feel like I am going to have the runs every single time, but its not that everytime (if this makes any sense?). Anybody else? Does it get better? I know the dr said some people can be sensitive to fatty foods after losing their gallbladder, but this doesn't seem to correlate to my diet. -
I drank half of the whey Protein shot (2oz)and about 45 minutes later I had the most violent bodily function. Has this happened to anyone else? I was sleeved 10/24, and honestly have not been regular, but this was extreme. Just wondering if this was a fluke or the shots....... Sleeved 10/24/12 Sent from my iPad using VST

Day 4 Post Op And Just Have No Energy
acoleman380 replied to acoleman380's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone for the replies. I feel a little better. I ate some tomato soup and drank some tea and hae been resting. I know my daily struggle will be getting the protein in because the shakes just arent working for me. I have to force myself i guess. I had my first BM today since surgery (tmi..i know sorry) so hopefuly that helped as well. I was one of the ones that didnt have to do the pre-op diet so this is just a drastic change. I have 10 more days until i can start mushies/soft foods.....*sigh* seems soooo far away :/ -
I'm on puree and really miss my veggies. Has anyone juiced on puree or stage 4? I feel constipated (sorry...tmi) and would rather make a nice juice with leafy greens and apple (I could add my unflavored protein to it- so healthy!) I just don't know if sleeve can tolerate such a high level of minerals at once since puree stage has canned veggies as preferred (besides corn and beans, what else tastes good from a can?)

I'm So Gassy And Need Some Tips On How To Get Rid Of It.
Fiddleman replied to Adahlia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had/ have the same problem. On another thread, someone suggested it might be caused by the I digested sugar alcohols hat are in the sugar free foods we eat or drink. I'm not sure there is much we can do about it, but probiotics or a superfood powder product might help with digestion issues. I have noticed that since I have been taking miralax daily and taking a serving of superfood powder every day, the gas has gone way down. Between month 2 and 4, the gas was really bad for me and had a methane smell (TMI!!!) -

Anyone Tell Their Young Children?
dwbrown1978 replied to LeahMae's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My entire family knows. I mean entire. My mom told all my aunts and uncles, grandparents, etc. She sent it out in an email. Sigh. She's not really tech savvy. She hasn't gotten the hang of texting and she posts WAY TMI on Facebook.... (love her lots though  ) I have a really supportive family though. They're all my personal cheering squad. My brother told both my nephews (5 & 12) about my sugery. The 12 year old is totally cool with it. "As long as it saves my life so I can be around forever" and the 5 year old is ok with it "as long as it isn't anymore of that yucky cancer stuff". (Gotta love kids!!!) Kids will ask questions if they notice. If not.... you'll be fine not to share too much information. -
Surgery On Wednesday. Help Preparing
mendymayhem replied to steelergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, I highly recommend that you do all you can to clear your intestines. Like empty. I didn't, big mistake. I didn't realize this untill about 7 days out or so. Out of the blue, I had a constipation situation not to be believed. Sorry if this is TMI, but if I can protect one person..... It wasn't that there was much in my intestines, but the small amount had changed texture during its extended stay in my body. I have a high tolerance for pain, but let me tell you.... I tried an enema, stool softeners, and finally a suppository laxative. Nothing. I really thought I was gonna have to go to the ER. I would rather have the surgery again than have to pass that through my body again. Major agony. If your dr ok's it, take milk of magnesia as soon as he says, or whatever he recommends, trust me, I will do everything in my power to never go trough that again! Congratulations on your new journey, and we look forward to your updates! -
Congrats on the path you are taking!! I struggled a lot with my pre op diet but I stuck with it for the most part. It really does help with shrinking your liver. For some reason the Premier shakes made me constipated. I know...TMI! But just FYI in case it happens. I live off of the Atkins shakes. They are my life line!

Hey everyone! I hope you are all doing well It's been a while since my last post. I was officially one month post op yesterday! The first two and a half weeks after surgery were very tough for me. I had gone through some type of withdrawal from all the habits and foods I once felt so close to. I felt depressed, in pain, and just overall weak. I felt like I had made a mistake in having this surgery. However, I had to keep reminding myself that things will get better. That this is the best decision I ever made even though it might not feel like it right now. For a week I had a pain in my stomach area that felt like it'd never go away, but with time, it did. I went to universal after two weeks post op and the walking was too much. I got dehydrated quickly and hardly kept up on fluids. I had painful constipation one day (sorry tmi) but with some laxatives, that went away. When I started to eat more solid foods, I started to feel better. It was easier. Now I'm on regular diet, reintroducing foods one by one. I feel so great! My energy is up, my clothes are loose and I'm just so much happier. I went to the doctor 12 days after the operation and I had lost 32 pounds in those 12 days. Incredible right?! I can only imagine what I've lost up till now! I can't wait for my next weigh in. My advice to all newbies would be to keep as much of a positive attitude as you can! And all the hard times are going to be worth the way you feel afterwards! My diet is finally something that's not so boring like liquids -.- Today for lunch I had some chicken from Pei Wei! And last night I had some ceviche for dinner. Only tiny bits though! Since I can hardly fit anything in my pouch lol Ill try to keep my page updated! Good luck everyone! Much love

I Got A Feeling Of I'm Sooo Hungry!!!
Tiffany3280 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am two weeks post op ( banded 10/18) today I felt like I hadn't had food in forever... Is this normal??? I wanted to eat everything in sight... Also, I am tired of eating the same things, chicken, veggies, eggs, etc.... I would be sooo grateful on any ideas to help me. My first fill is 10/28... I feel like I'm in a fuzzy place right now, plus my tummy is still a little swollen.... It could be my hormones, ( TOM, I know tmi) but I feel blah and just more blah..... -
Have you looked into why you can't get food in? Sorry if this is too personal, but are you having regular bowel movements? I know when I got really constipated I couldn't eat much. Sorry if that's TMI

Scrambled Eggs...
jennyannk73 replied to Sleevedreamz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had part of a scrambled egg in puree stage and it didn't go well. Went directly through me (sorry TMI) and I felt terrible. Yet most other foods (fish, mashed potatoes, sweet potato, and canned asparagus ) that I've tried have gone down without a hitch. Wont try the egg again for a while.... -

Post Op Octosleevers 2012. Welcome To The Losers Bench!
TheNEWME! replied to SkinnyMinnie2Be's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello Everyone!! I am now 3 days post op, had my sleeve on Oct. 30th in Tijuana, MX with Dr. Garcia. I am doing pretty well!!! I was worried after reading all the stories of gas pains, nausea, and pain but happily I am reporting back a happy person!! First day of surgery I did suffer from gas in my back and upper chest area. Thankfully my wonderful Husband was there to pat me like a baby and rub my back. Which I believe helped tremendously!!! I did take some gasx strips that day but honestly I don't think they really helped. All in all day of surgery was the worst!! After I got up and walked around and got some more pain meds in the evening, I finally relaxed and fell asleep. Thank god!! I did experience some nausea and dry heaving on day one but they quickly gave me more meds for that and it helped keep it at bay. All in all the first day not so great, but the staff was wonderful. My husband didn't think the 2nd shift staff was the most attentive but 3rd and 1st shift were wonderful! TMI..... They even let my husband take a picture of my stomach!!!! Crazy!!! But kind of awesome at the same time! I was surprised at how large it looked!!! My husband said the doctor said it was average size. First day after surgery, feeling pretty good. Of course sore, but good. No noticeable gas pains... Thank god! Did not have anymore nausea. Walk, walk, walk! Did my leak test, was pretty worried about having to drink all that liquid but in the end wasn't that big of a deal and passed that test. Did another type of leak test with some kind of blue liquid dye stuff... They said if my drain catcher had any blue in it that wasn't good. But I passed that too! So they started to give me ice chips, which were heavenly. The Gatorade and apple juice. The apple juice gave me heartburn so I stuck with gatorade and water. Day two down, so far so good. Forgot to mention earlier that I caught a NASTY cold on the way to MX!!! I mean nasty!! I can't believe it hit me hard like that. So the first night down here I hacked and clued and blew my nose forever! I was worried they wouldn't do surgery but by the next day it seemed to subside a little. I told them about it but they didn't seem concerned. Second day after surgery, was released. They took the drain out, which by the way, felt really weird!!! Not painful but weird. Then the staples came out, no problems there either. Didn't even feel it. Was released to go back to the hotel. Was sent with a goodie bag of medicines, Gatorade, water, and detailed instructions. I was surprised how swollen I was after they removed my IV's. They said it was normal and in a day or two would be back to normal. Which it is! . My job now is to not get dehydrated, so sip, sip, sip. Walking around in the halls, went to dinner with hubby and was ok watching him eat. Sleeping that night wasn't so great! Felt like I was burning up!!! Not sure if it's from the cold I have or my body just freaking out??? But was able to take another pain pill and it allowed me to rest and finally a sleep. Third day after surgery, got up showered, washed my incisions, which look great and don't hurt. I have three incisions and one drain hole. Went down to breakfast with hubby and tried some broth while hubby ate a yummy buffet. He kept telling me I didn't have to come down but I told him I have to be able to control myself. And I did, it really wasn't a big deal. Made sure to walk the halls quite a bit. After breakfast was a little tired so it was time for another pain pill, so I took a nap and woke up feeling pretty great. The day was kind of long , didn't really go anywhere due to our driver's car being in the shop. Oh well... Now just watching some tv and writing this up. So tomorrow we head home back to WI!!!! Yay!!!! I miss my kids!!!! And just being in my own home. But that also com with the challenges of getting back into the old routine. But I am staying strong and I will succeed !!!!! As many of you have! I look forward to sharing all of our experiences, good and bad! -
Well where it started and where it is now are two different places. Mine is above my waist, to the right, It did not use to be that visible but as you become thinner it is more prominent. I can feel all the way around mine now and if I hit it it hurts, Sorry I know TMI but just so you know when as Kime stated the port is visible once you lose your fat from around the belly. Small price to pay and some people have a revision to what is a low profile port. Have no idea but had enough surgery and will stick with mine, no need messing with a good thing.
