    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Hi everyone ! Just so happy bc I’m in ONEderland! Yay! I’m so grateful that I was approved for this surgery. I had posted my date was 10/19, since then I lost 31 lbs. No regrets, should have done this sooner! Only new challenge is learning to eat verrrry slowly since I started soft foods. Love this site, I’ve learned so much from you all! 😊
  4. Hi I'd been waiting for my OP for a couple of years had two pre ops and then covid hit so that was another year and a half wait and on the 28th of July got a phone call they was doing my OP 23rd August so everything was a rush to get bloods done an iron infusion to get to the hospital in the morning for 7.30 then the surgeon came up to tell me I might no have it done because he needed an assistant anyway 10 minutes later I had surgery the next day I thought what have I done to myself 10 weeks post OP and I feel brilliant not sure how much I've lost till the end of November but I will let you all know
  5. I am 10 days post op. For the most part I’m able to reach my protein goals which is 60-64 grams per day. But I am struggling because I am tired of drinking the protein shakes. It takes me a long time to finish them. Does anyone else have this issue. If so what have you found that are some alternatives?
  6. My first consult was in Oct 2019 and I am finally getting my surgery now Nov, 2021! 🤣 So yeh, I have had to wait a while too. Usual wait in Canada isn't that long, may be 6 months to max a year. But because of COVID, it kept getting delayed. I got my very first date for May 2021, but they had to cancel it ala COVID. Then it was June, 2021. Again, cancelled. Finally got it for September, 2021 but I was already in school and it would have been difficult to handle surgery and full course load with tons of group work and back to back assignments/exams. So had to postpone it, delay yet again. And finally for the FOURTH time, here I am getting ready for the surgery, Nov 16th 2021 and on the pre-Op diet 🤣🤣🤣 So don't get discouraged. Things happen when they are bound to happen and when it's the right time for you. Keep your spirits high and hope for the best. It'll pass and there will be a light at the end of the tunnel!
  7. Thank you both so much, this has already helped me. Smanky, you are right, I do just need to keep my eye on the prize and remember why I’m doing this. I’m doing this for a healthier happier life. I’m not overly worried about the purée stage and I know all these stages are just a temporary thing which helps. I think the most part I’m worried about is the socialising with friends. I think I will take you’re advice catwoman and avoid going out for meals and just meet for teas or coffees. Luckily I am in my final year of nursing school next year so I won’t be able to see my friends as much as I usually would anyways which I think will help. I’m about 10 days into the pre op diet so I have 18 days to go. Myself and my friends are usually social butterfly’s and enjoy a few drinks so that will be a little strange but I know I can do it. I’ve done it prior when I did the Keto for a year. That’s a good idea with the plastic containers :) Yes I’m extremely lucky to have my partner and you are right, it is no one else’s buisness, I was just unsure if I tell a few people or no people. I’m still undecided and suppose I will wait until the time. I’m so happy to hear there are minimal complications for most. Thank you both for all your advice and support :) One more question, it seems it has been a while since you have had your surgery. How did you find the regain period and keeping off the weight and have any old habits tried to creep back in? Thanks again

    Post op day 2

Day 10 A couple things have changed since my last update. I have a superficial thrombophlebitis in my arm above where my IV was. I did notice a couple days after being home that my upper arm was a bit sore and tender, mostly when I was using the arm. But then I noticed it was a little bit pink. Only then did I think “oh this could be a blood clot”. Now this isn’t a deep vein thrombosis, but really the only way to know is through ultrasound, and since i wasn’t willing to risk a PE, I went to the ER. No treatment, just warm compress. The other thing that has developed is that my diaphragm feels really sensitive/tender. Kinda like when you get bumped (or hit) in you belly. So I feel slightly nauseous. Even my bra resting on the diaphragm area is irritating. My muscles definitely feel weak. I’ve mostly been surviving on water, a couple ounces Greek yogurt, sugar free jello, and sugar free pudding. I’m going to try another protein shake today. My dietitian said to basically stay hydrated and take my vitamins. I’m doing normal daily things, taking my kid to the playground (though i’m not playing), driving, Grocery shopping, and house work. one more day until purées! Wahoo!
  9. My revision was for GERD not regain so I can’t speak to that, sorry. What I have heard is that the weight loss from VSG to RNY can be slower and lower but every body reacts differently. I initially lost about 10/12 lbs but I have bounced back into my pre surgery range (I was already at my goal) I am happy to say that the symptoms of GERD have not come back so I’m very happy about that.
  10. If it's any comfort, I can eat that now (two months post-op) and just had a barium swallow and my sleeve is exactly fine. Don't freak out. Just weigh yourself once a week or so, and have an "oh sh*t" weight where if you get there you will go back to basics to get back down. So if your goal was 50 kg, maybe you say at 53 kg it's time to get serious (it being a lot easier to lose 3 kg than 10 kg).

    Any December 2021 bypass people?

Hi! December 6th here, this has been a crazy long process for me, and I was afraid it wouldn't happen this year, but I'm slipping in under the wire, lol. I have been considering this surgery for over 10 years, finally got to a point where I am ready and sure of my decision (no easy feat for an indecisive and anxious person like myself), and have been seeing my PCP for a year and a half in preparation for this (insurance requires 6 months, but because of CVD it was hard to get appointments sometimes, so it stretched things out). I finally got the go-ahead from my surgeon and insurance company in the end of August, but was told they were canceling all elective surgeries in my region and they were booking out into mid-November, so I thought there is no way they are going to get me in before the end of the year with all of the cancellations, rescheduling, and not actually knowing when surgeries can be booked again, and I met my deductible this year. That mean that if I don't get the surgery done this year, it will cost me thousands more out of pocket, and at that point, I was giving up and going to Mexico. Well, surgery is in 25 days, and I am 5 days into my prescribed preop diet (which I despise, I have texture sensitivity issues and protein shakes are ick), and I was petrified. I am doing well so far, not as bad as I thought, I am allotted 5 Optifast shakes (can sub one of those for a bar or soup daily) and one food meal with 1/2 c. lean protein, 1-2 c. non-starchy vegetables, 1 tsp fat, and one serving of fruit, with unlimited (but reasonable amounts, the calories do still add up) sugar-free popsicles, dill pickles, cucumbers, and celery, no dairy, vinegars and mustard allowed, salt-free seasonings as well. It really hasn't been so bad, but I prefer volume at this stage, so raw veggies are my daily food meal, but I miss something warm and comforting in the chilly weather. I find that I'm not even craving junk food, like, a bowl of garlicky black or pinto beans would be so good right now, lol, but no starches, so no beans. Anyhow, those are my thoughts, if anyone cares to share as well. HW: 400+ (no scale at that time, highest measured weight was 399) SW: 384 CW: 338 GW: Healthy and active

One Year Out, Looking For Advice

Hi Tapioca! First, congratulations on your successful weightloss! 👏 It must feel incredible to be so close to your goal, but frustrating that you are struggling to get where you want to be. I'm only about 3 months out and far from goal, so I am sure some veterans will have better advice or experiences to share. Have you been able to speak to your nutritionist or doctor about your progress? I have seen suggestions to go back to tracking food, making sure to get protein & water anytime you get off track or hit stalls. Have you tried to go back to 3 meals & only 2 protein rich snacks? I can easily see how snacking can creep back into the routine after WLS. There are also "pouch reset diets" that may be helpful to "reset" and get those last 10 pounds off. I hope you get to where you want to be & find ways to get the snacking in check.🤗
  13. I received gastric sleeve in 2019 and was doing really well until covid hit. I lost my job and staying home when it first hit really made me depressed. Now I cant lose any weight i just keep gaining and gaining. Im trying to get some advice on if i should get revision surgery or bypass.
  14. Hello! This is my first post on a weight loss surgery forum. Just seeking advice for some developed bad habits. I am officially one year post op from my gastric sleeve. I am 5'1 and 133 pounds now and 10 pounds away from my goal weight. At this point, I've found it very difficult to loose more weight. I'm looking for advice on how to get back in gear. I've found that I'm eating through the entire day, and I'm constantly thinking about food. I didn't even do that before surgery. After my operation, I wasn't getting enough calories, at max 300-500 a day, even 6 months out. I just couldn't eat a lot during meals and never felt hungry. My nutritionist advised to snack(healthily of course) throughout the day, and I was able to increase my daily calories to 900 on average. About 9 months post op, I was able to eat enough calories without having to snack as frequently. But I find that now I can't stop snacking throughout the day. And I've gone to eating sweets and chips etc. Even if I'm not hungry. All my brain can think about is "what can I eat next". Because I had to force myself to eat more throughout the day, I feel like now my body has gotten in the habit of constantly wanting food, even when I don't need it. And I've been really craving junk food and snack food. What are some tips to help myself from getting out of this habit? I'm maintaining my weight now, and not gaining. But I feel like I will eventually gain if I keep this up, I don't want it to derail all my hard work. I still do want to get to my goal weight. I do a boot camp 3-4 days a week for 7 months now. But I haven't lost any weight in over 3 months. I know it's a mindset thing, but I would appreciate any tips. :( Thanks!

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

UPDATE: So just about 6 months out for me now. Just wanted to make note of some things. My lowest weight thus far was 241.2 and that was on October 25th!! I have not lost anything since then and in fact, have been weighing in consistently around 248/249 since. Now I know this happened to me back in October, I think, but yeah, VERY frustrating!! Why the 7+lb difference? I know, I know, could be water weight, hormones, etc. But it sucks to not see the scale move DOWN in so long. I hate this back and forth/up and down thing with the weight cause I feel like it's now taking a whole month just to lose a few pounds when it used to be 10-15lbs a month I'd be losing, at least! I also only lost 1.75 inches last month which also sucks. Especially when previous months had me losing 7 or more inches at a time. My last regular doctors appointment was Sept 13th. At that time he cut my Metformin down in half. Which I am happy about. HOWEVER, when I was first put on it 10 years ago it was to help my Insulin Resistance and my PCOS. My endocrinologist said, while it's normally prescribed for diabetics, it also helps people with those issues which is why he gave it to me. And it did regulate me all that time. So fast forward to this Sept when it was cut in half, and now I have not had a period since Sept. 17th!!! Not sure if it's due to the cut in that medication or if I'm maybe pre menopause or due to the surgery. Not sure. Weird thing is I'm crampy and all bloated like I would be had I had my period and that's very annoying too. And finally, I feel like I'm suddenly able to eat more food than I originally was. I guess that's normal? At least I hope it is. But for instance, I used to be able to eat a turkey sausage, egg and cheese on a bagel thin for breakfast and have about 1/4 of it left at the end. Now I can eat the entire thing. Or only one egg and half a turkey sausage patty now I can eat two eggs and maybe a half of patty/sometimes the whole thing. I used to be able to eat only 3/4 small wings, now I can eat like 6 or 8. I'm hoping this is ok and not due to me stretching out my pouch. I wonder too if my slight gain/water retention/whatever is due to me now consuming more carbs and some foods with sugar? I had previously stayed away from those things but my nutritionist said not to. To add in more variety and varied foods and even ones I used to stay away from as long as I'm only having a serving of said foods. And I do. But funny how now I'm NOT losing regularly since adding in things like bagel thins, quinoa, brown rice, a small handful of Goldfish Crackers here and there, Whole Wheat Saltines, etc. Not sure what's happening. Very frustrating as I did NOT expect things to slow down ALREADY this soon out. I have not been following closely how much protein I've been getting in or my water intake. So one or both of those could also be contributing too but I'm not sure. Maybe it's time to crack down again? I don't know. I don't feel like I'm really doing anything off plan or out of control. Who knows.
  16. I'm experiencing a situation at work today. This skirt fit comfortably snug during my pre-op diet period (last time I wore it). Today? Well...

Non-scale victory: My skirt is much looser.

I just began Week 5 today (sleeved 10/13). I have not lost anything on the scale since about 10 days out. That doesn't exactly bother me. I'll take a smaller body any day of the week! The rest can catch up when it's time.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I had my surgery yesterday. I think you’ll be okay without care the next day. My pain isn’t too bad, but I feel like crap. I think the nausea comes on with the burps. Im not supposed to pick up anything over 10 lbs for 6 weeks so plan ahead for that.
  18. Me! I’m having surgery Dec 3 in Atlanta. I had lapband in 2010, lost 90 lbs. It slipped and almost killed me in 2014. Had revision to VSG in 2014 and now revision to bypass bc of severe GERD. Have Grade D esophagitis and been on protonix for years. Can’t wait to not have GERD anymore. Have gained about 10 lbs since 2014 and my weight right now is 154. Hoping to get down to 130’s. We will see if that happens!

    Post op day 2

Post op Day 7 last night I had the gas pains up in my collar bone area, mostly felt upon inhalation while laying down. It was sharp and annoying. today I am in a mood about having this. I. AM. CUSSING. HUNGRY. not “head hunger”, eye roll, real legit, stomaching eating itself hungry. I want to eat anything and everything and annoyed that I can’t! many times throughout the day I have thought “WTF did i do?” I chose this. I paid for this out of pocket. I’m hoping this feeling is normal at this point and temporary. i did normal household things today, without any trouble. I’m still guarding my belly button incision and careful not to lift anything over 10 pounds. I felt tired a lot and spacey. But also totally normal at times. I drank my water, about 48 oz no problem. no protein shakes or waters bc I just can’t. I am changing my vitamin because it’s so gross, so just to have SOMETHING I took a few of flinstones vitamins. apparently I can’t take capsules for 30 days, which there went my plan For the barislims. anyways. I just want to eat. Totally second guessing why I did this. I just feel stupid.
  20. Hi all, wondering if anyone else has a similar experience: some days I can eat no problem and other days the sight of food repulses me. Some days I hit 60 grams of protein other days I barely get to 40. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar?

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

@rattlesmomm hahaha I know that feeling of not wanting more shakes. I tried to mix it up a bit. I do all of my brights they are high protein, I do seafood broth, top sirloin for stews I add lentils, carrots, sweet potatoes, red cabbage, olives and brine broth. You can get about 10-15 grams of protein in a 8 ounce cup of broth and is very yummy. I believe you are entering your 3 phase soft and or purée foods. Ricotta Cheese, cottage cheese small curds. You can also sous vide your meats. Overall glad you are doing well. I started in my 2 phase but had a set back will taking gulps of liquids I get the worse cramps ever. So now I have really sip sip sip slowly but it will get better. Thank you for sharing

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

While you are on IV, there is no risk of dehydration. I just drank water to help with the gas pain. So, on Day 0 (surgery), I drank maybe 4 - 5 oz of water. On Day 1, I drank a bit more, around 10 oz or so. (I would walk up with pain, have 1 oz, burp :), and walk for 15 mins, if still in pain do this 1-2 more times. I would walk up every 1-2 hours during the night, fun!) On Day 2, I drank between 10-20 oz. However, I didn't have Hiatal Hernia repair, I've read that if you get that, it's a bit more painful to swallow water at the beginning. And, yes, gas pains are a beast. Hope this helps.
