Need Advice! Please, Share Your Journey!
rjan replied to TisTrue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 5 weeks post-op for a sleeve, so I can't answer your questions. However, I wanted to comment that I don't understand why they are so worried! Assuming your stats are correct and you're 4'11", 137 lbs is still overweight. And 113 lbs in 10 months is fast, but well within the range of what I have seen here. How fast were you losing when they had you food journal and try to slow it down? What did you slow it down to? What have your calories been? Are you hungry, or still forcing yourself to eat? Are you having any other symptoms that indicate mal-absorption of vitamins or some other problem? Did insurance pay for your surgery, or did you self-pay? Do you have some particular reason to not trust the place you've been going, or just a general mistrust of doctors (which I get.) -
Personally, my symptoms if I eat something that doesn't agree with me (or eat too fast or don't chew well enough) are stomach pain/cramps, nausea, lightheadedness, fatigue, and sometimes a racing heart. Often, I have a feeling like the food or fluid is sitting above my stomach and taking some time to get there, though this particular feeling has been fading away as I progress. I have never, not once, actually vomited - not even close. (Which I count myself lucky for.) I also seem to have a reaction pretty quick if I'm going to have one at all, which also seems like a good thing. I am 5 weeks post-op, and I often feel tired and lightheaded after I eat even if there is no pain or nausea. Not always, but usually. I try to plan 20 minutes to lie down after I eat. I'm hoping this symptom goes away someday, or else I'll never be able to eat out!

Need Advice! Please, Share Your Journey!
TisTrue posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stay Safe and Hopefully Well/Healthy Everyone! Hi, I got the Loop Duodenal Switch almost a year ago, done June 2019. Please, if you post, say the surgery without abbreviating it, as I am not familiar with the initials/abbreviations of the surgeries, unless you want to post a list that would be appreciated too. I wanted to know if you ever experienced losing weight too fast. If so, did it ever slow down, or did you gain it back? I have been told that I might have to have revision surgery because I am losing at the same rate as when I first got surgery, which will be a year ago in June. I don't want another surgery, as it was pure hell the days and weeks after surgery, for multiple reasons. I was told that I could go as low as 95 lbs, but I am already at 134 now, supposedly one will slow down weight-loss once they have reached 50% of weight-loss or something to that degree for the Duodenal Switch Loop. I am just curious as to if you wouldn't mind sharing what your weight-loss journey has been like if it has been more than 1 year and especially if it has been more than 2 years. Were there any concerns over losing too fast? If so, what helped without a revision surgery? I have to say at one point weight-loss was fast, I was able to slow it down after I was told that I would need revision surgery after the 1 year mark, mostly by food journaling. This COVID-19 ridiculousness got me off track again of losing slowly even though I went back to journaling. I hate to say this but with my own journey, Although I start off by listening, I find that some of what a nurse/Dr. says sometimes is crap, so I want to make sure that the talk of me needing revision surgery is not more, crAp. What have you done, Help! I know that it may seem like a ridiculous thing to be alarmed about but I really can’t handle another surgery so I would like to know if this has happened to anyone else and what worked for you besides revision surgery. Thanks! -

Yikes! So sorry, but you "gotta" breakup with fast acting carbs...BP has some pretty great tasting low carb cereal so I've heard. -
When does energy return?
catchthewind replied to Lily66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm four months out and still have no energy. I also get faint whenever I get up too fast from lying down. (I guess I need to speak to my doctor about the latter.) -

I'm thinking it is a blessing to be full so fast 😄 I had a mini bypass. -
I think bacon is ok, but not every day. You're going to have to choose what kind of post op person you wanna be. Are you a person who is going to be super strict and a stick to everything your doctor says or a in moderation person. So based off of that you'll get different answers coming from a strict diet person and a moderation person. I'm a in moderation person (although my doctor did tell me regardless of what I eat I will lose no matter what in the first 6months). I do not restrict myself and will eat anything in moderation. For the most part I eat healthy and what I should be eating. But do I have bacon once every two weeks yes. Do I eat chocolate once a week yep... have I ate chips yep! But its all in moderation and knowing you have the will power to control yourself and not binge eat. I would make eggs your main focus when you're eating breakfast and have 1 piece of bacon. Or make bacon and put some bits mixed in with your egg. Same goes with sausage and ham. Moderation is the key. I'm 8months out and have always lost and never gained. By 2months 2wks post op I was 32lbs down (started at 261lbs), but like someone else mentioned a lot of factors play into how much and how fast ppl lose. I stalled around the same time as you and for almost 3wks it was very discouraging. You still have a long way to go... as do I, hang in there the weight will come off!!

I endured an 11 month stall. I tried lowering calorie intake, carb intake, increased cardio workouts and nothing seemed to work. I was told about intermittent fasting, I tried it and my stall had finally broken.

Alcohol a year after bypass
Jessiejess1973 replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My nutritionist told me I am clear to drink in moderation if it is unavoidable (when would it be??) but to keep in mind that it will slow my weightloss and I will get drunk really fast. They said drink at home or somewhere safe the first time to see how it effects me. She also said it can cause dumping because of the sugar content. That said, I had a glass of wine the other night and couldn’t finish it because I got a strong buzz. And not the good kind of buzz. It hit me really fast. It was gone fast too but still! That’s no fun! And not worth the calories or slowing down weightloss. -

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
sillykitty replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
There are no hard and fast rules for IF, lots of different variations. Some plans consider low calories a fast, while others require no calories during the fasting time frame BUT ... 2 months post WLS is way way too soon IMO to start with IF. Focus on healing and getting your protein and fluids. The weight will come off without IF, promise. Save IF for when your capacity expands and your hunger comes back. -
Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
ResaRoo replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I have a question. Sorry if it’s been asked already - I haven’t read through the entire thread yet. If I choose a 20-4 fast schedule, am I able to drink protein water during the fasting time? It has 70 cals, 9 fat, 2 carbs (no sugar) and 15g of protein. Otherwise, I won’t be able to hit my daily goal of 60g of protein because I can’t eat or drink enough in that 4 hour window. Will the drink ruin the fasting results? And if not, is it better to stretch drinking the protein water out over a few hours or drink it quickly? -
@catwoman7; I have consistently found your advice and comments incredibly helpful, clear and reassuring. Thank you for spending time on this forum helping all us "newbies." @BecomingAnna; I agree with everyone that you should be in touch with your team. You are really low on calories; my team has stressed protein, protein, protein and hydration. They actually warned against fasting. There are a lot of emotional "head" issues with this major change in lifestyle. I encourage you to try to get a teledoc appointment with a nutritionist, your surgeon, a PA or a psychologist asap. As to the ritz crackers, they seem like a symptom of a bigger issue, you need some help (as do we all) in learning how to schedule meal events in a healthy way.

Hey Guys I am 6weeks out and put 5 ritz crackers in my soup to thicken it. Thats not that bad RIGHT? 😩 Im looking for reassurance. Also I need help Eating This is my first time eating since 4days ago yes I’ve been sick but usually I eat once A day and drink water, vitamin water, and maybe 1 protein drink a day. I have no desire to eat im not hungry I do get headaches which is probably my body Sending me signals but i just dont know what to eat. Im eating under 300calories A day, maybe 40g Of Protien if I drink A shake, and under 40oz of fluids. This is hard and being sick does NOT Help. Im ready to start working out but dont wanna pass out do to lack of nutrition and water. I sometimes go a day or 2 without eating and try to look at it as no different then before surgery because I use to fast but I know thats probably not good to do now. PLEASE HELP. Maybe I should do a meal plan or prep. Also im back on soft/mushy/puree because solid/soft is hard going down no matter how small the bite or how much i chew it feel like a rock sitting in my chest. Im so scared my body will start to shut down if i dont get my nutrition and liquids in.

Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?
stacer12 replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All elective surgeries in my area have been postponed. I would have had surgery sometime in the next couple weeks (I started the whole process on March 13) but as of right now my surgery is tentatively scheduled for May 12, although that is subject to change if current circumstances persist. Overall I know that two months from the very first appointment to date of surgery is quite fast, but I'm just sad that surgery could have been a month sooner. I'm just anxious to get this show on the road already! -

That's good you have that habit already! I've always been a slow eater too and I feel you with the whole being able to eat more than you should. If you're not doing it already I would stick to dense protein first then everything else. Protein is most filling and you will be making sure you're hitting your protein goal too. I've also noticed that hard veggies like raw cabbage, carrots, and broccoli fill me up fast too. -

Hi i had my surgery 14/10/19. I have lost about 70lb so far. Feeling good and on track. Sometimes I forget and eat too fast or too much and have episodes of foamies and pain. I’m trying to stop this. Hope all of you are doing well xx -
I had just started the process when the virus picked up and so far have been able to have my initial consultation, psych evaluation, and 1st nutritional meeting all within 2 weeks of first contact. I hope I am not missing out on too much by not doing office meetings, but they have been doing everything virtually and I am hitting all my action items. Have my 2nd out of 4 nutritional meeting in a couple of weeks, so have been working on eating better and trying to tone up prior to surgery, which would tentatively be in July. It makes it easier when I can't just run out and get my normal fast food :). Hoping those with surgeries coming up can get in soon. So excited for this journey!

So I went and bought the move free ultra. I got the fast comfort and the triple action. Walgreens has them bogo free. Plus I got the turmeric. I’ll let y’all know how this goes.

I know this is weird - How do I stop losing weight?
TisTrue replied to lm4dham05's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Hi, I am having the same issue, well actually I was having the issue, but then I started using a food journal again where I was able to maintain my weight. But since the quarantine I've gone back to losing a bit too fast in my opinion. Some people don't get it, it is scary. I was told that I might have to have a revision surgery if I continue like this, which I don't want. So I would say to journal your food, figure out what you are consuming including the calories, add more of the healthy stuff like proteins and maybe it is even time to add in healthy carbs such as veggies, quinoa, beans, lentils, and oatmeal. Maybe even do weight bearing exercises as opposed to cardio exercises. I hope that you can figure things out. -
I’ve gotten the foamies after my protein shakes and applesauce that I ate too fast. I’m not sure what causes it. Our new tummies are teaching us all the time what we can and can’t handle.

I used to eat until the point of pain, but i was deep in food addiction. Maybe i did eat too much too fast?
