    You need some electrolyte powders to mix in your water. Look for one with a good amount of potassium and magnesium. It stops the "keto flu" symptoms like fatigue and headaches! A lot of people underestimate them. I did 3 weeks of a pre-op diet with no headaches or muscle cramps after the first day because I started taking those handy little powders! They help post-op too.

    That seems about right especially if your normal eating had a high sodium intake. Sodium holds onto the water so once you get on a strict regimen that cuts that drastically down you will release the water weight. I lost 15 lbs last week during week 1 of my preop diet and will be done with it on Wednesday but when I weighed myself this morning I am down an extra 6.2 lbs from last week’s weigh-in.

    Half way through my pre op diet. I haven't done the best with it, yet I'm down 22 lbs in a little over a week. I checked with my doctor since that didn't seem right, and it seems I was retaining way more fluid than I thought due to my previously poor diet and exercise. Hoping I don't burn out on protein shakes before surgery haha. Joking aside, the headaches and fatigue are really disruptive, as are the frequent bathroom trips from all the water.

    How many calories

    400 does seem pretty low for three months out & that’s coming from a low calorie eater while losing (I was about 900 at 6months & took almost 3 years to get to where I am now at about 1500/1600). Though you can only eat what you physically can eat (quantity & quality). Best advice is to speak with your dietician to see what they recommend you should be consuming - we have different needs. Then work at slowly getting to their recommendations. They may be able to suggest some things you can add to your eating plan to boost your calories & nutrition (which is equally an issue to watch).

    Congrats on soft foods. I started soft one week ago. I finally feel like I can eat real food again. I also had no problems eating anything, but things have changed a little on soft foods. Scrambled eggs make me nauseous. And for the first time since surgery, I can finally recognize when I’m full. It actually feels more like full used to feel like pre-op. I think the semi solid textures make all the difference. But enjoy the pleasure of eating real food again. You’ve earned it.

    Yeah, I tried not to go overboard the week before. But the first 3 days were definitely the hardest for sure! And that's what everyone said when I started. Now I'm just 3 days away from surgery! So close! But then still weeks of recovery before real food again. But just reminding myself of the goal.

    0/10 here, I know I might just have been lucky but I managed to roll/lever myself out of bed in the weeks after surgery without a major issue - painful but not a deal breaker.
  9. Oh yes I get the comparing yourself to others. That is REALLY HARD. I say celebrate the 18lbs in 2 weeks (when have you ever lost even close to that on any diet?), get to know how the three week stall hits almost all of us (and can last a few weeks) and then settle into your programme and enjoy the big losses to come. 3lbs gain in a month is nothing to worry about - honestly. I am really surprised that you're allowed bread at such an early stage. My plan was protein then veg and no carbs for many months. When I did start earing bread it sat in my stomach like a lump of lead - so did pasta and rice. Less so 2 years on but I honestly only use them like a weapon in certain situations - not for daily consumption even now. I wish you all the best
  10. first of all, 18 lbs in three weeks is normal. Most of us lose around 15-25 lbs the first month post-op. Thirty pounds in three weeks is way above average - did they start out at 400+ lbs or something? If so, that would explain it. Starting BMI is a huge factor in how quickly you'll lose weight - at least at first. soup and cheese both have a lot of sodium in them. So does store-bought bread. That three lbs might be water retention from the sodium.
  11. Im getting a little discouraged,Ive read about the 3 week stall but im having the 3 week gain. I had gastric bypass 10/18 I also had my gallbladder removed.The first 2 weeks I lost 18 pounds.I was happy and then i go to my clinic for a class with people who had surgery the same day or around the same time.We were there to go over the next phase of eating .Everyone was discussing there weigh loss (30lbs and up) and what they've been eating.I thought to myself im eating far less than most of them why am I only down 18 and there 30+ At the time I was having 8oz of pureed soup,a protein shake or two,and 32oz of water.Im having trouble getting in 64oz of water.I thought maybe Im not eating enough so I started getting in 3 meals a day and now they are allowing us to eat solids at our own pace. I went to the store and bought full grain bread,avacodo,and sliced cheese. First thing in the morning Ive been having 1/2 of one slice of bread with avacodo or a slice of cheese.For lunch I'll have the other half of slice of bread with avacodo,and dinner I'll have pureed soup 4oz. I dont stop eating because Im full,I stop eating because Im afraid of eating to much and getting sick. I've been eating far less than I have ever eaten in my life and now everytime I step on the scale for the past couple of weeks i've been gaining weight everyday!! I dont get it.Why would I be gaining weight when Im eating healthy and Im not going over 4oz each time I eat. Ive gained 3 lbs so far.

    If I'm calculating right, you are about 6 months out. You lost all that weight in 6 months?! Take some time to be fiercely proud of yourself and your body! At 6 months out you are probably not done losing, but you are in the realm of stalls for sure. Are you keeping track of your body measurements? Sometimes when the scale doesn't move the inches do. Your body has a lot of reorganizing to do as you drop weight, sometimes it needs a time out to make sure everything is going to continue working! Losing weight this fast is actually pretty hard on the body. I wouldn't stress it by changing up a bunch of things trying to force the scale to move, it'll just take your body that much longer to recalibrate. Honestly, this is probably just a stall and will take TIME. The body will not let go before it is ready to, no matter how much you punish it... Surgery is rough and I swear the majority of the struggle is with our head game. If your mind isn't right with these things, you will experience it all as a suffering and be angry at your body for not cooperating. I think most of us have spent chunks of our lives hating our bodies. This surgery and weight loss is an opportunity to heal that, but only if you take it. Let go of the diet mentality. Show yourself some kindness. Celebrate how far you have come in such a short period of time. And trust things will move when they are ready to move. I'm talking to myself as much as I'm talking to you, I have to remind myself of this EVERY DAY. ❤️

    Any, can I ask what hospital and who your doctor was for the prep and surgery? I was surprised to hear you say you didn't have a pre-op diet - so no liquid diet for a week or 2 before your surgery? A lil FYI: beware, this site is super pricey for the items you mentioned. Try WalMart online....same stuff for way cheaper!!! A 12-pack of Premier shakes is $25 compared to here at almost $40. Walmart also has a nice organic chicken bone brone broth, Pacific Foods. Important to follow pre and post surgery guidelines but we still need to watch our spending power too. I hope you are doing better.

    My bed is on one of those platforms where you can raise the head or the feet---the head has been raised since I had surgery. It has helped me sleep much more comfortably on my back after surgery (I'm a week and a half post op). A pillow wedge would simulate that just fine without the added expense, I used one for years, which is why when we replaced our bed we got the adjustable platform. I'm going to say a 5. I have a recliner and it has helped some, but pillow behind me on the couch is just as good. I wouldn't think it is necessary for this surgery unless you start to have reflux issues, in which case you should talk to your doctor about meds and get a wedge pillow, they *really* help with reflux.
  15. I'm scheduled for RNY January 3rd. My concern right now is that I'm able to work out pretty good every day, and getting stronger, more lung capacity for swimming. I'm worried that the 2 week liquid diet and the following months of low calorie will really interfere with this progress. Any advice on how to manage it in a practical manner? I was thinking possibly higher weights, lesser cardio? Right now I'm walking with handweights and swimming laps for an hour.

    No Pre Op Diet?

    I'm doing a 2 week liquid only diet, and clears at that. My BMI is lower too, but the program just has everyone do it, across the board. I don't really mind except that my liquid diet starts December 20th. Actually, that might be fantastic, no temptation for Christmas and New Year's treats. Limiting myself to one cookie is not my forte. If I don't eat any at all, it's much easier to watch other's eat it and not feel sorry for myself.

    Surgery day is 3 sleeps away. I'm so ready for this-- but still a bundle of nerves. I've lost 25 lbs over the past month, with 2 weeks liquid diet and before that; a calorie & carb restrictive program. I'll 2 do days days clear liquids before the procedure to continue to try and get my HUGE fatty liver down a few sizes to make my doctor's job easier and my time on the table & recovery not as hard. I'm doing this for my health. My wife took a lot of convincing that surgery was the right path for me; but she's finally onboard. Congrats to all my Nov. 23 surgery buddies.     Hi all! I had gastric sleeve on November 6th and am just now getting the required liquids in. It has been kind of rough. I didn’t have a pre-op diet so I guess I wasn’t as prepared as I thought I was. Only thing that I wanted to eat was crushed ice but I’ve finally moved to protein water, protein shakes and broth. I’m so glad I found this app. I had to go get IV fluids and a steroid today and will repeat Monday at my week check in appointment. Anyway, just saying hi! Good luck to all!

    I would say a 9. I didn't have one. I so wished that I did. I had to sit up in bed and sleep for 5 weeks. It was torture. I had terrible nausea, reflux and vomiting and it would not let me lie flat. It would have been easier to get in and out of instead of a bed too. I had to get a step

    October 2022 surgery support

    My vision doesn't go white with the hypoglycemia. I get severe brain fog, shaking, heart racing and sweating. Unfortunately, it has a tendency to sneak up on me. If I don't eat every 2 hours - whether I'm hungry or not - I'll end end up crashing. They want me to stick to 60g of protein per day. My nutritionist wants me to stay away from protein shakes, but I do drink them on occasion. They help get something into me quickly, when my blood sugar drops. I'd say I probably drink one a week. I'm having an issue with my diaphragm that is keeping me from doing any exercise that works my core. We're working on fixing that, now. Once I'm able to start lifting weights, my protein intake won't be as much of a problem. It's so weird how different doctors have such wildly different plans.

    Hello. I had my RNY on Oct 9th. I have recently graduated to soft foods, yay!! So far, I haven’t really noticed many changes to my taste perceptions. Some things taste mildly different but I still hate and enjoy the same foods as I did pre-op. My cravings for sugar have vanished however. Unfortunately , I’m still stuck in the 3 week weight stall for 12 days now. But overall, I do feel great and sleeping soundly through the night most nights. Waking up feeling rested and refreshed most every morning. That’s the biggest changes I’ve noticed.

    Help, ive been stuck for 3+ weeks

    there are mixed feelings about pouch resets. Many say they don't really work, and also, they reinforce "diet mentality". Probably better to either wait it out, or else maybe drop your calories by 100 or so and beef up your activity. Arabesque is correct, those last few pounds are a BEAR to get off. I got to my goal, but it took me 20 months. After the one year mark, my loss slowed down to a crawl - there were months I only lost a pound or two. But I just kept at it. She's also right in that stalls are a part of weight loss. There were so many times during year 2 that I thought "well, this must be it...", and then a couple weeks later I'd drop another pound. Frustrating, yep - but that's the way weight loss works!
