    Banded today!!

I could'nt have anything until the day after, all Doc's seem to be different. They gave me small cups of Ensure and applesauce. Then the next day I started back on Protien shakes from GNC, Lean Shake is good and apple sauce, greek yogurt and lots of water and diet snapple. Hang in there, the next few days will be rough but worth it.

    CAULIFLOWER PIZZA

I can see so many possibilities of tweaking it to make it have more Protein easily. White pizza - combine greek yogurt or ricotta with garlic, cheese and an egg and spread it over the crust. Add chicken and broccoli as toppings....for example. Or just make it a meatza pizza. I'm sooo gonna experiment with this recipe.

This is what I wish I had taken, extra PJs and extra underwear (I forgot my underwear) and footie socks/slippers and flip flops. You probably will go shopping, but at soon as you get back to your room, you will want to put on comfortable clothes ie PJs. I flew United also and they allow you to check one bag for free, I HIGHLY recommend doing that. When I flew home, I upgraded to 1st class at check-in. It was the best $75 I have ever spent. Also take broth packets with you, the food and drink taste different in Mexico, except the bottle Water. I bought juice and yogurt from Walmart and it was NASTY!!
  5. I actually sucked on a Fritos today to just get the taste. I am soooooo over yogurt, protein shakes, and broth. I still have 6 more days of liquid! Ugh :-/

What If This Was All For Nothing?!

Hi... Dont feel discouraged. I too feel the same exact way! Have had those same thoughts and keep thinking "what if i'm in that % where surgery doesnt work?". I bought a 2pz measuring cup and measure my foods, sometimes i feel i can eat a whole yogurt but stop myself. I too have tries unhealthy things to feel "normal". And it didnt hurt or kill me. But the guilt sets in and I walk it out. Hang in there! You'll get through
  7. You two sound like this failed and you're only a Lil bit out after surgery. When was the last time a yogurt took u 10 min to eat? Never! Get up and out and excercise!!! This isn't a miracle it's a tool so use it right!

    Hi

This was given to me of what I could have. I added steamed veggies to the broth and it was different. I also add the hidden valley ranch seasoning packet to plain Greek yogurt and dipped veggies in it. It was tasty. I drank premier protein shakes and the sugarfree Popsicles were a treat. Life Abroad with VSG

I find its easier to buy plain or plain Greek yogurt. No need to look at labels then. I add my favourite sweetener or honey and fruits. In Egypt I would be eating figs and dates with it. If you struggle to get protein shakes, Use a tip that I was given, drink skimmed milk with a tablespoon of milk powder added to bump up the protein. I added fruit and occasionally peanut butter to it and blended it smooth. You can add yogurt to this too. If you say what kinds of foods you want to cook the people on here can give you the recipes

    In need of advice

@@steph1514 Go back to basics. Pack a little cooler to bring to work. For a snack - you could pack a greek yogurt, cheese sticks, some almonds, a protein shake, a protein bar, etc. For your "lunch" - pack some grilled chicken, veggies, chicken salad, scrambled eggs with cheese, crustless quiche muffins. Is Subway in your Walmart? Are they open at that hour - you could get a salad with meat/protein. You can pack anything - it just takes time to prepare and make sure you have good options. I would also recommend therapy to deal with the old eating habits.
  11. Hey all. I'm 7 days post op with directions to drink only 1 once every 20min. At first this was fine however now I'm so thirsty I'm drinking more than what the Dr. recommended. what's the norm for 7days out. I'm still on clear liquids and for the next 7days can only add jello and yogurt.
  12. Recovery is slow I have to say. But first week I was unable to even keep Water down so I think I am a bit behind. They put a stent in my stomach to untwist it and I have surgery Jan 10th to remove it! I have lost 41 lbs since the surgery. I can tolerate all liquids but have zero hunger now so food is tough to get down. I can tolerate yogurt, applesauce, pudding but not much beyond that yet! How are you doing? If you private message me I would love to share my contact details if you want a friend in the area that is going through the same thing! My name is Brandee but can not figure out how to add my picture! Lol Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    Recipes needed:)

There is a recipes section on this site. Not sure if you have had a chance to look at it or not. Also there is a site called "the world according to eggface", it has a lot of bariatric recipes. I would definately suggest making a good homemade chicken stock for your liquid phase. Use carrots, celery, onions, chicken, Water, salt, pepper, garlic if you like it. For most this becomes a lifesaver during both preop and post op liquid phases. Trust me, you will be sick of Protein shakes and needing something warm and comforting to sip on. It helps with hunger too during preop. I made homemade chicken cacciatore using boneless chicken breasts, mushrooms, onion, green pepper, garlic and your favorite marinara sauce. I then vacuume sealed it in 2/3 oz. portions and froze them. When I wanted to eat, I simply dropped one in boiling water to heat through. I bought a vacuum sealed after another bariatric pal suggested it. It is one of the best tools in my kitchen given my need for tiny little portions, especially the first 6 months. I would bring home leftovers from the restaurant and get 2/3 more meals or more out of 1. I made a lot of different chicken, ground beef, ground chicken/turkey dishes. In the beginning casseroles are not recommended. Stick with Proteins with Fat free gravies or sauces to help them slide down easily. I would go to the eggface site to get some good purée ideas. I personally did not do well in that phase and lived on yogurt, Protein Shakes and cottage cheese. Good luck to you!
  14. I mix 1/2 scoop of protein with 1/2 container if Greek yogurt. And I also mix 1/2 scoop of protein win a sugar free fat free chocolate pudding snack.

    Love Divinci Sugar Free Syrups

I have a new blender! It has a food processor canister, a masher for making thicker style mashed potatoes and veggies and an immersion blender for smoothies. But today i used Davinci Sugar Free English Toffee syrup in my OptiFast shake. It was sooooo delicious!!!! I have been using their syrups for years now. I can make sugar free protein ice cream and flavorful smoothies and flavored plain yogurt. I have all kinds of flavors, mint, dulce de leche, english toffee, french vanilla, orange, raspberry, pancake syrup and just pain sweetener. I buy them from netrition.com go check them out and buy a few. Well it is getting closer to surgery day and the excitement is building by the second.

    **Newbie Alert** Not happy

You're loss sounds good to me. I don't understand these negative docs. I loss 26lbs at my 2 week visit but only 6 at my 6week. My team was just as encouraging both times. Today I had lost another 16lbs and they were just over the moon. Don't beat yourself up. Work on upping your Protein. I mix greek yogurt in my protien shake and sometimes add a tbsp of almond butter. That alone will give you between 33 -38 gms of protein. That leaves the rest of the day to get in another 30. Are you exercising? I lose a lot better when I exercise at least 3 times a week. Even of it;s a 30 minute walk, do it. Keep working at it. Things will fall into place.

one week out n starting to worry

My surgery was on the 4th and I'm having the exact problem! I want to eat some yogurt no fruit or cottage cheese or somehting soooo bad! It's true when I get a drink of something my stomach feels better and the hunger pains stop. But I want just one bite of something so bad! Funny just a few days ago, I thought ha I could do liquids forever and food did not appeal to me what so ever! But now that I'm feeling better, its a different story. Think I'll try some tomato soup and see if that helps hold me off of some mushy food! I wonder if we can have egg drop soup yet? I can't get my protein in either! They make me wanna throw up! Trying to last 6 more days then maybe some greek yogurt will help me get some protein and maybe a poached egg or avacado.

    Protein

@@yescobar Are you logging your food on myfitnesspal.com or their phone app or some other program? MFP is really helpful to see if you are getting in the required amount of Protein, Water, and if you are limiting carbs and getting enough Fiber and whatnot. If you are not, consider getting an account so that you can see if you are getting enough protein every day. The phone app allows you to scan barcodes if you eat something premade like a frozen dinner or a container of yogurt. In regard to your protein powder, if you mix it with soy milk or cows milk, you will get extra protein on top of whatever the unjury has. So, for example, I use Body Fortress. A scoop of it has 30 grams of protein, and an 8 oz glass of milk to make it with, you will have 38 grams in one fell swoop. Also, as an exerciser, you might want to consider your calorie intake. I try to get in close to 1200 - especially on days when I exercise. If you are only eating 500 or 600 calories you will probably need to up your caloric intake to revamp the weight loss. The body gets stingy when you are not eating enough.

  21. Hi Angie, I am having my band placed by Dr. Schroder on Oct 9. I started my pre-op diet today. It is a high protien shake for Breakfast and lunch. Protien and a vegie for dinner adn there are a couple of Snacks such as baby carrots, ff cottage cheese and light yogurt. I have heard that is is not too bad but I guess I will see. The hospital is a Center of Excellence and specializes in Bariactric surgery. Dr. Schroder and Bregman have really great reputations. You can read reviews on them on the obesityhelp website. Some of the office staff can be a disorganized at times but just keep on them. I know it is not supposed to be our job but it does seem that is how it is today. I have been researching this since 2002 and am now finally going forward withit cause I have not been successful doing it myself. Good luck on your journey. I will be happy to share my experiences with you as I go along if you like. Linda

This band has a mind of it's own!

I usually start off in the morning with the low-fat yogurt eaten ver slowly -- seems to do well. Then mid-morning have a little oatmeal. Often I will just have cottage cheese and some fruit for lunch, a protein bar mid afternoon and then fish or very tender chicken and veges for dinner -- I really like the Jack in the Box teriyaki chicken bowl -- but don't eat the rice. Very small portions chewed very carefully -- I find I have to stick to softer foods as well. I can eat the fish part of the sushi but too much rice will get stuck. It's a learning experience for sure.
  25. So here I am, I week post op... Well, now 1 week 1 day. I feel great!! I'm so bored at home and I miss all the lovely ladies and doctors I work with. But, I also know my body needed this time to recover and get used to my new eating habits. eggs aren't tasting so great to me right now.. I'll try them again in a couple weeks. SF Jello is still too sweet for me, so I've been doing yogurt, pudding, and Popsicles. I found these delicious popsicles that are made from real fruit and have no added sugar. They are tasty. So far, including pre-op diet for two weeks I'm down 31 lbs!! THIRTY-ONE lbs!!! It is such a great feeling! My goal is to get down 120. I'm 1/6+ of the way there!! I can't believe it! I told my boyfriend of 8 years that once I get to my goal weight I want to get married and have more babies since I will know how to eat at that time. Our 6 year old has already been asking for a baby brother or sister. Ha. I just tell him I'm trying to lose weight before that. Luckily he has plenty of aunts and uncles that have or are having babies in the semi near future. I can't wait to add things into my diet like mashed potatoes and bananas and Peanut Butter. Even tortilla shells. I'm interested how my stomach will handle those. Have any of you had problems with very many foods on the mushy/puréed foods? Sorry for my rambling, but I can't sleep right now. I took a late nap with my niece after doing some light housework. Any help or guidance is much appreciated!
