  1. I am 3 years out, VGS Dec 2018, and have been maintaining my weight until last month and have gained 10 lbs. it’s not the exercise part that is an issue. It is definitely the less restriction related to food intake.Looking for support to get these 10 lbs off and keep them off.

    HerbaLife Shakes

As the title says.... Do/have any of you used the herbalife shake powders? If so did your dietician say they were ok? My wife and I are 10 days post op and cant stand all the premade protein shakes we bought but we have been able to get the herbalife ones to go down very smoothly and are getting the amount of protein we need.

    Having cold feet….

Totally normal! I was nervous all the way until the anesthesia kicked in lol. Only you know if you're truly ready for this change, but I read so many accounts where people said their only regret was not doing it sooner, which helped me a lot. Honestly I wish I did it 10 years ago to give myself a better chance with loose skin rebounding, since age seems to be a big factor in that area.

    Trying to sleep in pain!

I had VSG, so not exactly apples to apples, but it took a good 5 days before I was able to comfortably sleep in my bed. The gas pain/pressure really necessitated sleeping upright, and the bending/twisting to get in & out of bed kept me in the chair for another day or two. But thankfully, it does get better and by about day 10 I was sleeping completely normally without any issues (on my side/stomach). Hang in there, it does get better!
  5. Hi i had sleeve surgery on nov .10.Im still in the full liquid stage and l have head hunger. It is weird since i know i can, t be hungry. Sent from my Moto E (4) using BariatricPal mobile app

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I know the first two weeks are bad. Have you tried taking smaller bites and putting down your fork in between? It made the difference for me. My surgery was 10/25
  7. Hello! For those that have gotten the revision because of the GERD, did you feel relief immediately or did it take some time? My revision from sleeve to bypass was on 10/27, however I still feel GERD. I’ve heard some ppl say they felt immediate relief and others that it takes time. Can you all tell me what was your experience please. I am praying it goes away. The main reason I got the revision was for relief.
  8. Finally home! Now I can get some rest. I hate sleeping in hospitals. Little to no pain. No gas pain but I still took a gas x just in case. Oh and I gained 10 pounds of fluid weight 😩

  9. I have the same "concern". I have had DXA scans done and my lean body mass fluctuates between 205 and 215 lbs... so that's what I based my goal weight on. 240 lbs. would be 10-15% body fat. We'll see if I can get there!
  10. Hello, I had my revision from sleeve to bypass on 10/27/21, only 3 weeks ago. I also had hiatal hernia repair, and gallbladder removal all at once. I am feeling good, no vomiting. Still on liquid stage, proceeding to soft solids soon. However, I am feeling GERD again! and worried the revision will not successfully resolve this frustrating issue. The nurse said to give it time. Did anyone have GERD weeks after their revision surgery? If so, did it resolve with time? Please I need some feedback! Thanks!

    Energy drinks??

Monster makes a few flavors in their "recovery" line that aren't carbonated and have like 10 calories in the entire can. They also make those big Gatorade-like "Hydro Monster" drinks, but be aware only one flavor is zero sugar and the others have a similar sugar and calorie count to a full-octane Gatorade so watch the labels.

  15. I retired from the Navy almost 19 years ago and yesterday I was able to fit into my Dress White and Dress Blue uniforms. A year ago I would not even been able to get them over my shoulders, never mind buttoned up.

When did you get back to exercise?

This is all great information! I'm going to talk to my surgeon, but I'm wondering how quickly people get back to other activities, like bodyweight exercises. Resistance bands or other stuff you do around the house, and then videos like this: https://youtu.be/ZiDgJEt3x1U Of course it's all individual and I will talk to my surgeon. But just wondering people's experiences/opinions. I was told not to lift more than 10 lbs, does that mean after 2 weeks or so I can use 8lb weights (one at a time) to tone my arms? Just excited to do this all and I know I'm going to be bored healing at home for 5 weeks after surgery.

    Post op day 2

HI Shoppgirl! Yes, my surgeon basically said the same thing.. She said I will never tell you that you cannot ever have something/anything again. I felt that was quite a relief. And I wish I wasn't on this road of self-sabotage. I am refocusing my energies this week in an attempt to re-lose these 10 lbs. that I keep yo-yoing on. Ugh!! Why do we do this to ourselves? According to your weights, it looks like you are doing great! I do know what you mean by being at goal already if you hadn't acted up at the beginning - it's so hard not to though!!

    October surgery friends??

Hello Everyone, I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 10/14/2021. Dr Neil Floch did my surgery. My start weight was 255. Now I’m 225 as of today. How much weight should you loose in the first month? Im looking forward to going to the gym soon.
  19. I agree with everything Arabesque said. Plus I don't know if you weighed yourself when you got home from the hospital or not, but most of us "gain" weight from the IV fluids they pump into us -- some people up to 10 lbs. It takes a week or so for all that to work its way out, so it's not uncommon to have no weight loss at all - or even a gain - for at least a week.

I’d tell him no more junk brought in or you’ll be homeless again! You have to take care of you not him! I am having surgery in December and trying to get my husband, our sons 19 and 17 to start making their own food. Today I made them a huge breakfast and 3 hours later my husband wanted a huge dinner - I kinda lost my s*** and told them all they have to start taking care of themselves because I’m not cooking for 2 months. They all three just stood in the kitchen and stared at me. I seriously thought they were all going to cry. But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do - you know! He needs to respect you - period.

    Benadryl not working after sleeve?

If you need sleep aid, see your doctor for a prescription and don't rely upon Benedryl for long term use. Commonly prescribed drugs are Trazadone and Lunesta. I've been using Lunesta for over 10 years and have never required an increased dosage. I sleep for eight hours and wake up refreshed. It's better than anything else I've tried. Ambien is often a GP's first choice, but IMHO it is a nasty drug. After one try I will never use it again. It puts one to sleep but may not keep one asleep. It may leave a hung-over effect. People have been known to sleep-walk and sleep-eat and have no memory of it afterwards. One must go to bed immediately upon taking it and must NEVER mix it with alcohol or operate equipment or vehicles.
  22. Until about 18 months ago I did not know that RNY revisions were even possible. Had I known I would have had done it long ago. Medical science has come a long way in 30 years! My original RNY was done in 1990. It failed after 6 months and a 75-lb weight loss. I regained the weight lost at about 10 lbs a year, returned to my original high weight of 300+ lbs, and stayed there for over 20 years despite many efforts to lose. Over the years my pouch stretched from 2 oz to 9 oz, the anastomosis stretched, and a fistula developed between pouch and stomach (which was not separated at that time). The revision will reduce the size of the pouch and anastomosis, and will separate the remnant stomach. My surgeon estimates I'll lose another 60 lbs over the 50 I've lost pre-surgery. I'm hoping for another 75 lbs. Either way, I'll still be obese, but in better shape than I am now.
  23. HI, I'm new here. I had VSG on 10/28 and so I'm just over two weeks post op. I still have incisional pain, but I am having very little restriction. So far, nothing at all has made me sick, I have no food aversions whatsoever, and I have been hungry since day 1. I was allowed to transition from liquid diet to soft foods ONLY FOUR DAYS AGO. Today I was trying to follow the meal plans laid out in my resources which basically was 1 cup of soft food and two protein shakes. I did that, and I had a snack in the afternoon of about 3oz hummus and olives. I had ricotta bake, an egg, a protein shake, and that's about it. Maybe a sup and a half fo soft food all day, but I tracked my calories at 1000. I'm so upset with myself. My clinic told me that people are able to get between 500-800 during the soft food stage. What is wrong with me? How do I fix this? How do I keep from feeling like I did all this for nothing?

    October surgery friends??

I'm doing well. Sleeve was 10/18, I've lost 18# so far and have hit a plateau. Coming up on 4 weeks Monday, I use the Lose it app as it worked before surgery when I lost 60# by eating healthy and exercising. Of course I wasn't using it when I regained 30 of that 60. Anyway, with the small amount of food I take in as well as exercise, I'm barely taking in any calories. I'm curious if that's part of the plateau although I know everyone hits it. Anyone else hit that plateau?

    October surgery friends??

@JordanM Hi! It feels like burning right in the center of your chest - especially when it gets bad. Maybe the top of your throat in your mouth - that can feel like it’s burning. I clear my throat a lot and have been told that’s from acid reflux. Coughing, trouble swallowing - all of that can happen if it goes untreated. I wasn’t given an exact amount for water intake post op - was told if my urine was light yellow and mouth wasn’t dry, I was getting enough. I was sleeved on 10/8. I’m down 32 pounds since 9/28 (pre-op appt) from 257 to 225. I feel good but I’m struggling with depression - something I’ve struggled with before but it’s gotten worse. I want to eat, but I can’t. I want chocolate, but I can’t. I’m on solid food as of 4 weeks out and so far I can pretty much tolerate everything.
