  1. Boy, did you hit that nail on the head!!! I totally understand and can relate, and now that I am shopping in the "regular" sizes, I, too felt the same way...why support it? But what choices do I really have? If I were talented, I would create my own line of clothing for ALL sizes, but alas, I am not meant to do that particular career! I'm hoping someone will pick up the ball, and make enormous amounts of money by taking on this challenge, for who of us WOULDN'T buy great, cute clothes???? It seems some get started, then you never hear of them again. In the meantime, for interim clothing, I chose (as I am now close to goal) stretchy slacks that could accommodate my fast-changing sizes, loose, flowy tops that would grace my figure, but hide the inevitable, ever position-changing rolls, all the while slowly accumulating AWESOMELY cute shoes for the AWESOMELY cute wardrobe I was bound and determined to have.....and NOW DO!!!! The FUN is coming.....truly!!!!
  2. Yes, plain water was the hardest thing for me to drink for a while. Try decaf tea, Herb tea, crystal light, etc. Also, try different temperatures. It was easier to sip room temperature for a while, too. It gets better. Just keep sipping. I've tried with other drinks and the it's the same think. So I thinks it's just me drinking to fast or too much but I did notice however the other day I had to take a pill and I had a bottle of water in the car (mind u, I live in Florida) and I took a gulp of that and nothing. I didn't feel a thing and according to my car the heat index was of 105. WLS 6/15/16 Miami,Fl 33yrs /5'6" highest weight 300s in 2002-03 lowest weight 193 in 2014
  3. Has anyone else experienced pain on the left side of your upper and lower abdomen? Its intermittent pain, but pain nonetheless that I've never experienced before. I'm thinking it's gas, as when I press on it the pain goes away, but quickly returns shortly after. I have been dealing with diarrhea the past 24 hrs, so could be that too, but not sure.
  4. Hubby and I went to the surgeon yesterday. He has his surgery next Tuesday, Nov 16th. He started the liquid diet today. Tonight he is having a hard time - he is taking diet soda, crystal light, cottage cheese, canned peaches, 1/2 banana. I got him some slim fast drinks. Any other suggestions. He is starting to get a little nervous now.
  5. Hi, I have just stumbled across this forum and thank god I did as I am hoping to get some help. I has a the Sleeve surgery in 2009 and then had a SADI or SIPS Bypass ( I think that is the technical term for it) in June 2017. I am in Australia and they were just starting to use the SADI option so didn't have a huge amount of feedback available. After having the sleeve surgery done I was diagnosed with an auto immune condition Lupus (obviously not from the surgery). So after years of pred/steroids to treat my condition I had started putting weight back on so had the bypass done. When I had the surgery, everything went ok with that part, however from them moving my Pancreas I ended up with acute Pancreatitis and was stuck in hospital for almost a month. Anyhow fast forward to 2018 when I would consider myself completely healed from the surgery, I started having a lot of gastric symptoms like bloating, excessive gas, sometimes diarrhea sometimes constipation that would come and go. I put it down to everything just getting used to the surgery. However, the past 18 months or more the symptoms have become progressively worse and after having all types of scans, faecal samples done, this test and that test and trying different treatments and diets I have finally had it with all the doctors as the cant give me an answer and now just put it down to my Lupus! The last "diagnosis" from different GI's was Chronic Pancreatitis (which my Lupus specialist says its not) and SIBO. But after changing to different diets and trying courses of antibiotics etc there is still no pattern and still no answers! I AM MISERABLE! I live each day in chronic pain but to add this to my health problems has been devastating to my mental health. I have basically become a recluse (I just turned 40) because if my Lupus isn't playing up I still cant leave the house because of these ongoing Gastro issues and I am so over it. Bellow are all the symptoms i have, some at different time depending on how bad it is and there is no pattern as to when it comes and goes or how long it lasts. I was wondering if anyone that has had SADI surgery experienced anything like this and if so were you able to fix it? Diarrhoea Constipation Excessive foul smelling Flatulence Severe Bloating (I can wake up with a flattish tummy and by late afternoon it looks like I am 8 months pregnant and my tummy is rock hard) Abdominal discomfort Pale coloured stools Steatorrhea Foul smelling stools Nausea weight fluctuation Malabsorption So that is most of what I can think of right now, but I am really hoping I can find some answers as I am just existing not living Thanks....desperate poster

    New Mom and gaining weight

Wondering how you are all doing? I got my band in November 2010. Starting weight was about 260, surgery weight was approx 245? I lost weight with my band but never below 200 lbs. My Bariatric doctor moved his practice and I had to start with another doctor. I saw this new doctor but it was 1.5 hours away and I had gotten a different job, so it was hard to get there to see this doctor. In the mean time, my band was getting too tight, caused a lot of pain and I became anemic. I couldn't get the Protein in that I needed. I was eating easy things like potatoes and such. Fast forward to recent...tried the Sanford Profile diet to try to get excess weight off (My new Bariatric doctor was aware of it). It kind of worked but I have a hard time not being able to eat fruit, potatoes, some breads (which you can't have while on the Profile diet). I am back up to 260 lbs. I have an appointment with my Bariatric doctor again on Monday. I'm contemplating a revision to RNY. My husband says he supports whatever I decide to do. My mom thinks I should just try to diet the old fashioned way. I struggle because my job is a lot of travel. So it's hard to always eat properly when all you have is a gas station to pick food from. March 24th Bandsters - Easter?

Happy Easter! Today I will be making dinner for my family. I figure we will have about 30 people coming. I dicided to have Easter at my house so that today would go by fast and keep my mind off of food. I hope that people stay late so I can just clean up and go to bed. I have to leave my house around 4:40 to be at the hospital around 5:15 am.
  8. At over a year past surgery I do still have occasional cravings for sweets (donuts, chocolate etc.). This usually happens if I have something sweet and carby and that starts the cravings up again. If I am eating clean I do not obsess about sweets. As far as steak goes for me I eat it about 2-3 times per month and it goes down just fine as long as I don't eat too fast about 5-6 ounces is fine, filling and a source of protein I wouldn't worry about indulging steak cravings occasionally as long as you are at the point to eat solids.
  9. I need sought of a fast answer from someone who knows. I have a 14cc band and I have a 8cc fill. I ve been trying to see if beer has affected me and so far I have no problem. My restriction is minimal and can eat anything so far the only problem I have is in the morning it seems like I can only handle liquids but the rest of the day anything. I would like to know if I drink beer on the cruise (which I reserved before I decided on band) would I be doing any damage. I m scheduled for a fill when i get back which the dr. said he will do as I request on the amount since I really don t have restiction. The cruise is tomorrow so I ll be happy with any fast replies. Thank you in advance

    Surgery postponed

I feel bad...Sorry for your cancellation or should I say postponement of your surgery. I waited 4 years for my surgery and then when my time finally came I was on the two week liquid fast and the surgery was cancelled due to an emergency. Then I waited a few more months and did the two week liquid diet again. Finally my day came on Nov.6th 2012. Trust me this gives you more of a chance to know what you are getting into. In this case there is not too much knowledge of food, nutrition and and learning about how the body responds to this surgery. Take it and run with it and it will give you some time to start making necessary changes now that will help you in your journey. Don't be mad or sad...It can really be worse. and now you have an opportunity to fix some of the poor eating habits and change your mind set regarding food! Okay!!!!!!

    Corn

As a vegetarian, I eat a high amount of carbs and am losing weight. It's not the carbs that made me fat, but the fact that I ate enough to feed a football team. I was on Atkins for 2 years once and developed diverticulitis from it. I also could not sustain that way of eating and as soon as I ate carbs, I never saw weight pour back on so fast. WOW. In all my dieting years, I never had such a rebound and then some than I did from that diet. But there again, I didn't lose weight because I ate too much on that too. :nervous

What will I NEVER be able to eat?

Just remember that eventually you probably will be *able* to eat anything. However, that will be months and months and months down the road -- after your new sleeve has fully healed. But even after your sleeve has healed, it probably doesn't mean you *should* eat anything. Which foods you can and should eat regularly depends on whether those foods nourish your body and on whether your body's and your mental responses to certain foods are healthy and don't lead to over-eating those foods. Some foods will wind up being "trigger foods" for you, and you will have to avoid or greatly minimize your use of those foods. For example, some people have problems with certain "slider foods" or alcohol or high-calorie coffee drinks long-term. Many people have problems with carbonated beverages long-term. Many people have real problems with sugary foods and other slider foods and fast foods and fried foods long-term. Again, they have to avoid or minimize those foods. If you have any kind of eating disorders or what some refer to as "food addictions," weight loss surgery will NOT *fix* those issues. If you have those challenges, you should address and resolve those issues in therapy. Some people also find twelve-step and other kinds of recovery programs helpful. Some may need to enter residential treatment programs to address severe problems. Bottom line: "Can eat" doesn't always mean "should eat."
  13. Thanks all for your words, I just wanted to point out, as momohime said, just because my stomach allows it doesn't mean I should. But I want to further go into why I said that. It was more of those times that I wasn't paying attention and ate too much.. and in saying that was relating more to my fear of screwing it up because of that fact. I'm not trying to push my stomach further than it should, and I do pay attention, eat slow and chew a lot as my nutritionist and doctors say to do. But you know those mistakes where you're eating and you may accidentally eat too much too fast? I freak out for a sec.. thinking "oh my god, I might get really sick" but then nothing happens... So.. sorry if this isn't making much sense but THAT makes me fear that I could really screw it up without realizing it. There's always the potential to eat out of the sleeve, as I've heard others put it. I don't want to do that. Who would? You go through the whole process just to end up 300 pounds again.. It's no one's goal.. but it happens. And I just freak out over the potential of it. Especially considering my stomach is being more flexible than I honestly thought it would. I was making stupid mistakes for a few days, because I was sick and tired of the liquid diet.. and I tried mashed potatoes.. and mac and cheese, and my stomach and I both liked it. But... I said to myself... Girl, you just went through surgery.. I know you're desperate, but don't screw this up. Thankfully, I was close to the end of my recommended liquid diet, to where I was told I could start on things like canned tuna and chicken, and soft fish, so I started on that. And it's doing great. I'm getting about 60 grams of Protein now, I've given up the high cal carbs, thankful that I could make that decision on my own. I know that I can screw it up. I fear it greatly.. And it's nice to be able to come here, and express my feelings and get feedback, so I really appreciate it from all of you. Words to help me along, advice, and just to have someone to relate to who may be going through the same thing.

    SAW THE DOCTOR Sept. 14,2006

I was given a 0.4 fill today so it brings me up to 2.6 I believe. I am starving at 10:00 PM. Had the fill at 2 today. He said to try the level and if I am too tight come back in for an unfill and they would squeeze me in. He is so nice..! I have to come back Oct. 12 3:45. Also have a lab appt. Oct. 5 --8:30 am. Don't miss that one...Fasting is important! 159.1 lbs. Up one pound from last time. Oh crap! We have discovered beautiful biking trails in Crosby that are paved and run along a couple of lakes and we took a ride a couple weeks ago (6 miles we rode.) Also have loaded the basement with firewood for the coming months. Weekend is to be pretty cold for Sept. rainy too.

    Hiccups

I am not a doc but I use to get the hiccups when I was full....not for 15 minutes though. Try to walk around, you may just have some air in there from drinking your liquids to fast or something. I don't think your band is going to slip over your hiccups. Like I said, I use to get them all the time. And your band can seem to go through a lot before it slips. Again, I am not a doc but call yours and just ask them to make yourself feel better. I have gotten sick, hiccups, taken a bad fall and my band is still in place.. unfortunetaly its leaking and I am having issues but this is not about me....just call the doc...it will make you feel better..ok!!!! I remember too when I would do something and freak out about my band. Once I forgot to crush a pill and thought I was going to flip! EVerything was fine....hope i helped you some..
  16. I lost all taste for fast foods five years ago when I was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma. Fast foods are loaded with transfats and transfats are thought to be one of the main causes for the increase in cancers over the last forty years. Since my cancer, I try to stick to fresh food I cook myself. Unfortunately for my weight loss, eating a lot of food, even if it's healthy keeps you fat. One of the things that motivated me to get banded was reading about the benefits of low cal eating espoused by Dr Walford. Countless studies have shown that low cal diets, increase longevity and decrease disease in animals, no one yet claims it does the same in humans, but preliminary studies are pointing in that direction. Fortunately, my cancer was diagnosed in the early stages and I'm (fingers crossed) considered to have a low risk of recurrence. For me, the band is a way of increasing my chances against the big C.
  17. Ok so I established in another post I'm terribly afraid of hot dogs (as in frankfurt sausages, not gourmet ones). The red colour of them is not natural and kind of spells to me danger. Ick. I love Maccas and Hungry Jacks (Burger King to you). I wouldnt eat KFC if my life depended on it and I've rarely eaten anything more disgusting than Subway - any white bread that you can squish into a ball is NOT good and for the longest time they didnt toast the buns here, just heated them in a microwave *shudder* I love a pizza - although cant bear Pizza Hut or any of those major chain ones, the thought of things like thick cheesy crusts makes me want to hurl. If we have takeaway we'd normally go Indian or Thai, I dont like Chinese food much at all. I dont know if you guys eat fish and chips as commonly over there, there's a fish and chip shop on every corner here. I used to love them, and good fish and chips ARE good but lately, I cant handle the fat. A big slab of flake (shark) battered and deep friend, it leaves a halo of oil round your mouth, I cant take it anymore. If we have fish and chips I get a dim sim or two and a few chips now. Dim sims are kind of like Aussie chicko rolls - nobody knows what's really in them - I think its minced meat (rumoured to be dog) and veges and cabbage. But the main thing that suddenly strikes me down with a craving I cant resist is if I walk through the shopping centre and McDonalds is just cooking the first fries of the day, clean oil, super hot = delicious fries. Yummy.
  18. Those donuts are nasty, plain ol nasty but whats worse is White Castle food ~ GAG BARF PUKE!!!!! I'm not a fast food fan to begin with, I prefer a sit-down meal of real good food or home made food. Now if you said my weakness like junk food ~ cake, chocolate, and chips, thats another story......did I mention chocolate :girl_hug:

  20. Help! I had my banding in june 2010 and have only lost 40 lbs. I can't seem to lose anymore. My problem is that I'm eating almost as much as before, the band does not restrict the amount of food I eat, but it does make me eat S L O W. If I get super hungry sometimes I eat to fast and I have to go throw up, it's gets stuck. Because of this I'm afraid to let them fill me again. I've had 3 or 4 already. I am 68 and come from a very fat family. Losing weight has always been a problem. Now I have to go in for a weighing in 2 wks and I know they are not going to be happy that I, once again, have not lost any weight. If I don't eat until I am satisfied... I'm hungry before the next meal. I'm eating mostly meat, veggies and very little if any potatoes or Pasta products. I don't eat sweets. In fact I've been eating so much meat and cheese that my cholesterol has gone up. Any advice?
  21. I had my surgery on May 5th and I still get occasional nausea when eating. Certain foods make me incredibly nauseated, and if I eat too fast or too much I will definitely get sick.
  22. Hello, my name is Michelle. I'm a 22 year old student and CNA working full time at a local hospital here in town. I just had my surgery 3-13. So, i'm three days post op. I've been walking a lot and following my doctors orders. One of my big concerns is that I am having difficulty telling whether i'm hungry or just havin some gas pains. I definetly know that these hunger pains are nothing like they were before. I'm working on full liquids now, and this morning when i tried to eat my super runny mashed potatoes, i experienced some pressure in my chest. I don't know if I was eating to fast or what. It's uncomfortable to say the least. I would really appreciate getting to know people who are going through the same thing I am. There aren't any support groups or anything close to where I live so I feel a little bit alone in this whole process. But I'm very very optimistic. I'm excited to start this new chapter in my life. Thanks.

    20 Minutes

Eating and drinking is very different after surgery. I could barely drink an ounce of water immediately after my surgery. I remember I went out on a boat and watched my family water ski and go tubing. I panicked for a moment thinking I'd never be able to water ski because I couldn't risk gulping that much water. It scared me to think of doing that. Needless to say, time passed, and I healed, and I can drink large amounts of water. It just took a long time to get to that point. Eating is something I still do slowly. I can't eat too fast. I need to physically stop between bites and let my food settle into my stomach before taking another bite. If I eat too fast, I become very uncomfortable. It only takes once or twice of that happening before you learn how to eat slower.
  24. 2 tiny chicken wings and I’m sneezing uncontrollably until I vomit. It’s not just chicken wings, it’s everytime I eat almost like now I’m allergic to food. The internet says overeating out eating too fast but only 2 flats eaten slowly and it’s still happening. And the hot flashes, why? I’m starving, I’m thirsty and everything in between.
  25. I am new to the forum, and just had a quick question, as at my six month checkup, I felt, for the first time, as if I had done something wrong. I am a by the book, numbers, write it down, everywhere and everything person. I have kept my profile on MyFitnessPal, my "guide book" given at my first seminar, and have now filled three huge binders of my own notes and journals, as I want to make sure no stone is unturned. I didn't see my normal surgeon, as he was away that day, but the dietician (who was all of 12, brand new when I started coming the second time...the first two times there were insurance red tape even down to the hour before surgery...that is a rant for another day) said I want making the progress she wanted to see, and the Dr. who did see me talked through not to me (God I hate that). I now have to come back for "monitoring" once a month to keep on track. Huh? I was furious when I left the office so I called back as there were no goals, just switch up food. Um why? I eat 90% Protein and drink 96 oz of Water a day. I take EVERY Vitamin, supplement, med, etc that was prescribed by then EVERYDAY. I exercise a minimum 4 days a week, varied workouts from cardio, to swimming, weight training, yoga, and now mini cross fit sessions. They said at this point in the game o should be at least 50% excess body weight lost? Um what? That is on NO book, lecture, seminar, support group, anything I have ever read, in fact quite the opposite. They say the average is 60% in the first year, will slow continued loss. I went from 292lbs at first consult, to 301lbs pre fast, 278lbs post fast, 273 day of surgery, 254 one month check up, 230 the month check up, and now 215lbs at six months, and they tell me it is not enough? I feel angry, frustrated & insulted. I bust my butt, do above and beyond 95% off the time (I am human and do make mistakes sometimes), but the only number they looked at was the actual weight loss, then lectured me failure rates??? I was fuming but embarrassed like I felt I was being shamed. Every other time I have gone, post op it has been a great experience, and ask my others doctors and primary care think so too, but I don't know now if I will ever go back. I hate being treated like I am some moron, who doesn't know what is going on. The world treats "fat people" like we are dumb & don't know right from wrong, so why are we getting this from the one place that should be safe. Am I crazy to think that for a sleever, not a bypass patient, that 50% excess weight loss in 6 months seems a bit of a stretch? Or am I over thinking things? Just stressed out. B~
