    Lap Band To Gastric Bypass

Johnnybots...I was a lapband to RNY revision. My lapband came out 2010 and I had my RNY 7/11/2012. My lapband prolapsed and emergency surgery had to be done to take it out. I had suffered through a lapband revision 2 years after I had it put in and then the 2 years later the prolaps. I too did well with it but, after it came out I gained some back and decided I needed to stop the weight gain before I gained it all back. I've had a few infection issues with the RNY but, I don't regret having it done. Looking forward to when I feel 100% with it all. So far the weight loss is going well. I'm a slower loser but, still happy with the results. Good luck with your journey
  2. So, I had my surgery October 15, 2020 and weighed 249 on surgery day. May of 2020 the doctor said I was 259. Anyway, Today I weighed at 201. I am happy about this but I feel like it’s not enough. In January I had my 3 month appointment and weighed 208. My doctor said that was too much weight loss....I was working out 45 minutes a day to make sure I maintained a calorie deficit. They told me the surgery is the tool and to let it work. Well, to prove them I was doing what I know would work for me I haven’t done any workouts except walking. No weights, no spin classes etc... and since that January appt I have only lost 7 pounds. I am super frustrated!! I’m aware that the surgery is a tool but I wasn’t always fat. An injury and two surgeries in 3 years for it plus ending up with secondary adrenal insufficiency in 2016 and on prednisone for over a year cause my weight gain and nothing I could do would help. Prior to my foot injury I worked out two hours a day 3 days a week and and hour a day on all the other days and off on Sunday. I feel like I should have had the gastric bypass. I was told by my mother in law I would want the bypass but I felt like that was so invasive and the very last step. But now, with all the stalls and especially this last stall and the doctors office telling me the opposite of everything I’ve ever known I feel defeated. I was never what you would call a skinny girl. I have a lot of muscle and a ghetto booty and I’m ok with that but I feel like I will never see 150 or less. And some days I’m so hungry and seems like I never get full even though I clearly am full. Did they cut enough of my stomach out? The doctors office can’t even tell me that. I don’t even want to go back for my 6 month appointment in April.
  3. pictures are included so please be advised before hand I do include the surgery pictures just not to gross just the healed scars and all of what a fleur de lis tummy tuck looks like!!! 💢‼️‼️ Well it will soon be my 2 year anniversary for the gastric sleeve and let me tell you what kinda of world wind it has been! To this day if I eat more then 4 ounces of steak I can’t eat anything for the rest of the day since it feels stuck but so far I have been able to eat regular foods. My breads still have to be toasted to not get the tummy gurgles. My stomach talks to everyone especially at night so if I am in a night class and I haven’t smacked at my usually 4 hours it’s like “hey professor hear me answer you” so YES my stomach after I eat speaks to the whole room and after hours as well. The bathroom problem is still a problem so I can poop regularly for 2-3 days and after I’m stuck for 2 day with nothing unless I have a day full of meals then I am golden. I also had a fleur de lis tummy tuck back in January. And that itself was a mess and such a hard recovery which was worth it to fit into my clothes, just wish I didn’t have those hiccups. food wise I have been eating a bit more from what I did in the beginning but never a full size normal plate always the little cereal bowl. So I would say I can eat about a cup or so of food depending on the food heavy steaks only 4-5 ounces and some side dishes. But it’s always at 8 ounces max on good days and other day a bit more. I was seeing a nutritionist even at 2 years in and she had been amazing. weight gain and loss : before my surgeries I was at 256lb after I lost 92 pounds, then after the tummy tuck they removed about 10lbs of skin from my mid section. i was down to 147lbs in January of 2021 after the tummy tuck then now in November I have normalized to a regular weight of 154lbs -156lbs in all it had been a very very long journey and I would say for the most part I would do it again if given the opportunity. now for the pictures guys it has been really really amazing to see me like this find me on Instagram ☺️ @aishas1992
  4. I am starting to research the gastric sleeve surgery. I have been reading that there is weight gain between 3-6 years. I have also read about a lot of vitamin deficiencies. Can anyone give me some info on this??

    surgery may 21st

One of the main reason for having the surgery is because of infertilty. I have PCOS and have been unable to have children. Having PCOS is part of the reason for the weight gain but I also have made some very bad choices. The pain was not unbearable but it was there. When I came out of surgery I was in a lot of pain but was given meds and felt a lot better. I guess it is different with everybody but the pain is not unbearable. Not eat really hasn't been a issue. I really haven't wanted to eat but I know that will soon change. It doesn't bother me to see my husband eat but I know soon that will change too. I hope this helps some....I am also doing a VLOG on youtube. Here is my username so you can link to my videos: hholly112002 you can watch some of the things I found important and I do have one update since the surgery and I will be posting another one today. Good luck all!!!!!

Cold since surgery - is this normal?

I have seen this issue brought up here. Seems many of us are colder at a lower calorie intake and or lower weight. Enjoy summer! Fall is approaching, and I have heating pads in several spots at my house and an electric blanket just for the foot of my bed!! (My feet seem to be the coldest part of me.... )I have resorted to running a hair dryer into my boots to heat things up! Best of luck! Sad to say that even a small weight gain made me warmer Sigh

  8. I think the fact that the baby is growing is very comforting to you and the doc. However, unless you had a loss due to morning sickness in the first few months, I can see your doctor's concern. On the weight watchers and other dieting websites, they say that the guidelines/instructions for following such programs during pregnancy are really for 2 things: 1. Possible loss during the first 4 months of pregnancy 2. Maintenance during the last 5 months of pregnancy So, even most diet programs have a reasonable expectation that you should not be in a loss mode after a certain point. I think that if you're eating a large amount of fiber-rich foods, that can certainly contribute to weight loss, simply because that has always been the case for me. A little fat and fun food is what pregnancy is all about, so maybe treat yourself to a big, guilty meal once a week and try not to worry about the weight gain. Remember if the baby weighs 7 lbs and you retain roughly 3-4 lbs of amniotic Fluid and breast milk, that you will have lost 12-15 lbs by the time you leave the hospital just thru delivery! And don't worry Fairy, I'm only 11 weeks and up 9 lbs....eek! However my gains have stopped these past 2 weeks, thank goodness. Hugs.
  9. My first pregnancy was my first experience with weight problems. I weighed 125-127 when I got pregnant and had never weighed more than that. I remember I was up 67 pounds on the day of delivery (I had a morning OB checkup and I remember my doctor was very upset with me so the number sticks in my head ). I went from the 120's to the 190's so fast that I had angry, glaringly red stretch marks on my belly, thighs and arms. I looked like a road map. I remember some of the main dietary culprits of that weight gain was huge quantities of strawberry flavored milk, and lots of Mexican including taquitos and quacamole several times a week. I was living in southern California and my diet was primarily Mexican during that pregnancy. By the way, I made a point not to have even one glass of strawberry milk or a single taquito (shredded spicy beef wrapped in a corn tortilla deep fried in oil with salsa, sour cream and guacamole on the side) during this pregnancy out of fear of repeating the past, lol. After that pregnancy, my new lowest weight was 156 and I went ever upwards from that point on until banding. I know I have the potential to gain a lot of weight during pregnancy. I think being banded must be impacting me in that I am eating lots of things but just not huge quantities. I think this will just be an entirely different pregnancy for me than the first, especially since I am much older and hopefully a little wiser this time around, lol.

    Kentucky DSer (8 years post-op)

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I am approaching 8 years post-op (July) and am looking to maybe meet some people who are as far out as I am, or who are experiencing weight gain with the DS. I've started "back to basics" by eating smaller portions and watching my carbohydrate intake. If anyone has any similar experiences, I would love your input. HW: 650+ SW: 636 LW: 213 CW: 278
  11. i'm in a similiar boat, where i only have half my restriction right now. i'm a 10cc band i've got roughly 3cc. i have some restriction (though not much), but i'm able to eat whatever i want without getting stuck typically. it's an odd feeling because prior to getting pregnant bread was out, steak was out, etc, not that being unable to eat bread was a bad thing. i don't know of doctor's who actually put fills in during pregnancy though. i know someone else was talking about it above, but my doc personally wouldn't. he wanted to take it all out but i fought him on it. i may end up with more being taken out before the end but i'll cross the bridge when i get to it. the weight gain is hard to watch, at least it's been hard for me to watch. i was within 100 pounds of my goal weight (i hadn't been this small in over a decade...it was quite the feat) and to watch it start creeping back the other direction at the pace it was was very very difficult. it did eventually level off though. instead of watching the weight jumps between doctor visits, i'm back to 1 or 2 pounds (thank goodness). be mindful of what you're eating. a food journal really helped during that time when i was visiting my nutritionist. we were able to look at what i was eating and determine there really wasn't much to change and that my portions were fine. my body was adjusting to pregnancy, though if i don't watch what i eat like a hawk, i can eat too much food in one sitting =/ hang in there.
  12. I'm 16 weeks and I still have no signs of pregnancy.. so.. don't feel bad!! I feel fat when I push on my belly, and no kicks or anything exciting. I am also 6'0 and due to my first trimester weight gain (ahem) I am back to needing to lose 50lbs.
  13. I can't help but feel a bit anxious about gaining weight whilst pregnant. Anybody else feel the same?

    Weight Loss During Pregnancy?

Im almost 37 weeks and I have gained. But only about 16lbs. I have 10cc's in a 14 cc band and had none removed. Didnt have morning sickness and was able to still eat well. Im told that all the weight I gained will be lost at delivery due to baby, fluid and placenta. Although to be honest I could care less. I can always lose more weight but at 35 my chances of getting pregnant again go down. Dont worry about weight gain, its part of growing a human being!!

    Antidepressants and Weight

The only antidepressant that doesn't cause weight gain is Wellbutrin. Psychotropic drugs like Seraquil, Zyprexa, Depakote, and Lithium almost always cause weight gain. Ability, although a good drug, raises blood sugar. I've realized that less is more and just stuck to taking one antidepressant. I usually seasonal depression and take Seraquil during Nov-March. I've decided not to do it this year and try more natural approaches. Good luck!
  16. I'm becoming very frustrated and wondering if I have some kind of metabolic issue. I'm 5 1/2 weeks Post op and I find that on days that I don't exercise I gain 1 pound. I am following all of my nutritionist's guidelines (and what I've learned on here). I am aiming for 60 grams of Protein per day and only eat carbs that come in my low fat, no sugar added greek yogurt (I eat Dannon light and fit which only has 80 calories per day). I eat three small meals and stick to around 300-500 calories per day. I am losing, I try to exercise daily for an hour, but in reality it generally ends up being 3 days a week. I know that I need to be better about that. However, I weigh 274 and at this weight and the limited calories it seems like I should be losing even if I don't exercise. Curious what you all think?

Sorry PDX didn't mean to imply that the carbs were the main problem with the pasta. Just stated it that way because it was easier then going into the whole starch thing. Obviously the sauce without the noodles will also avoid the expander of the pasta. Personally I do avoid the high carb items like pasta and breads because in my pre sleeve life I was a carbaholic which had a lot to do with my weight gain. Everyone's diet needs to be personalized to what works for them in my opinion.

    Have To Lose A Little...

BB I had 2 weeks prior to surgery as well. I chose to quit earlier in case I had a hard time with it. Not really understanding the weight gain that comes with it I wish I would have waited but I've come to far to start back for a couple months to just quit again.

    weight gain after veg

For those whp don't mind sharing, I'd be curious what med cause the gain. I know I started gaining when I started taking Celexa. I love what its done for me, but hate the weight gain.

    Shoe Size change after sleeve

I started at 9.5 wide and about 4-5 months later I was down to a 8.5 medium. Love it! 2 years later, still 8.5 ( despite 8lb weight gain).
  21. Is it normal to gain weight during the puree stage? I've been losing weight nicely but now it seems like I'm gaining. It is hard to get in all the protein so I'm working on that. But just wanted to know if anyone else has had this experience. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

    MOODY! !

I had a similar reaction but a different explanation. For years (unknown to me) I had pancreatic tumors that secreted insulin. The results (aside from massive weight gain) was that every few hours, no matter what I ate, I would experience a pretty steep drop in blood sugar. Diabetics learn to recognize this and everyone reacts in their own way. I have a cousin who gets sweaty panic attacks and knows his BS is low. For me, the sea monster would rise out of the ocean and I felt hungry. Removal of 2/3 of my pancreas (mostly) solved this. But post op (and for a few weeks while my body adjusted to my new intake levels), I would get the sea monster but not feel the hunger so I didn't realize where my bad mood was coming from. Once I did, I would have some broth or a sip of Protein shake or distract myself. Once I just took myself out of the house to spare the other residents. For me, all this (mostly) passed around week 3. But I watch out for it because it still happens, especially on days (like holiday prep days) when I get so busy, I get off my food and Water intake.
  23. welcome, first off your are not alone and your experiences are very similar keep your head up and stay on track, if you get off track get back on track. Most of my weight gains have take place when I stay away from this board.
  24. quote=Sherrirbgr - Wow!!! You've done great! You've lost 93 lbs! That is awesome! Thanks though it doesn't always feel like I've done well. Especially since I'm still sitting at a weight gain nearly 3 months after my tummy tuck, which should have made me 10 pounds lighter. UGHHH! I think the problem is that when you're 2 years out, and you see all these newbies who have met their goal in less than a year, you just get back in that mindset of "woe is me, I'll never lose this weight!" I know what you mean about beating yourself up. Still sometimes the newbies can also be a good motivator as well. ...which helps you eat that dang Publix chocolate covered brittle, which I swear is CRACK. My "CRACK" was cookie dough icecream but has moved to French Truffles. YUMMM.. the first time I ate one of those I swear I was moaning like I was in the "bedroom". These are nothing like those chocolate flavored wax balls sold by lindt or lindor, these are soft chocolate butter balls rolled in cocoa powder and taste like ambrosia. Lord help me! My only saving grace may be that I've only been able to find them at those temporary Hickory Farm Stores you see around Christmas. I just heard from Dr. Bagnato's office. They want me to come down for an x-ray. I'll call Monday and get it scheduled. What is the X-Ray for? Are you worried you have slipped? Keep us posted.
  25. Hi, I am still going through insurance approval, and have mostly decided on the sleeve. Has anyone who has been pregnant after getting the sleeve done had trouble losing the baby weight after the baby was born? How much weight did you gain during pregnancy? I am perfectly fine with the pregnancy weight gain but don't want to end up back where I am now. Thanks! Caroline
